the cost of living is stunningly high; it freaks you out in these10 years. Also the job opportunities are just not that great when compare to other countries. Furthermore, for those who don't have high enough education to allow to move to another country and take those job opportunities in which you just have to suck it. Tax is high in Canada is also another factor. |

it took them about damn time to fix the unfair immigrant credential system. My father came here in the mid 2000 with a engineering background from the middle east sadly never could transfer his credentials even though he was extremely qualified. Really sad story it felt like it was a trap. |

I teach ESL so I talk with a lot of newcomers and immigrants as part of my job. The case of one of my students sticks out in my mind. She originally came here from Ukraine because of the war. She wants to get PR status because she wants to settle here and make a life for herself and her family. She was explaining the process to me and she seemed really caught in a Catch 22. She held advanced degrees in mathematics and economics already, but in order to qualify here she would need to go back to school, which would require a different visa than the one she was here on. She was working, but at a low paying job where she was just making ends meet. So she has to decide whether to go back or stay, basically because of bureaucracy and no other reason. She was strongly considering going back home because of how expensive the cost of living is here. And I can't say I blame her. I was born here and if I had the resources, I would move. I would love to move abroad because the standard of living in most European countries is so much better. |

Cause before we came, when we had very solid work history and sought after credentials ( teachers, doctors, nurses) we were told that our credentials would be recognized. It turns out that there is endless redtape, overworked or incompetent institutions, and after 4, 5, or 6 years we are still dealing with bureaucracy and unable to work in our field and paying insane living costs. By the time we get our credentials recognized we have bern out of our field so long that our CV looks like crap. The smart ones leave before that, the dumb ones like me leave after, worse off, angry, and after having wasted their own money along with Canada's money fir years |
