2 years, 1 month ago @siyrean So we’re both unfriendly to business yet also allow oligopolies. We don’t get enough foreign investment yet foreigners or ruining the housing market as investors. Somehow I don’t think the conservatives will do any better. ? 0 ZvSNcnG2eqY
2 years, 1 month ago @valiumattic474 Video title: Why No One Wants to Live in Canada\n\n4:14 the government has admitted a record number of immigrants since 2016\n\n??? sure seems to me like a lot of people want to live in Canada. You wouldn't have a housing demand issue if that wasn't the case. 21 ZvSNcnG2eqY

2 years, 1 month ago @adultcool2395 I'd be careful about mentioning an increase in immigration as a source of a problem here without providing any evidence of how that's specifically harmful. \n\nYes, we have an influx in international students - often underinformed young people scouted by private companies in places like India who are gravely mislead on what to expect once arriving in Canada. International students specifically are facing tons of injustice and being used as cash cows by companies and our government, since international tuition is much higher than domestic tuition. \n\nBut right now, skilled immigrants are helping build our cities back up. It takes a lot of people to plan, design and build infrastructure, to repopulate failing systems (cough cough, healthcare), etc. We're in a recession and individual industries are struggling a lot right now - but not because of immigrant workers. In fact, they are picking up slack, taking jobs no one else wants to do, and keeping the gears of our society turning. 3 ZvSNcnG2eqY

2 years, 1 month ago @adultcool2395 Correction: Vancouver, while facing extreme difficulties due to a lack of affordable high-density housing, is doing a LOT to try and fix this in comparison to other cities in the infrastructure sector. Just over the last couple years, we've had some pretty extreme zoning policy changes, we have a yearly rent increase cap (which backfires once tenants move out, but that's another story) and we're building new transit infrastructure which now, legally, requires only high-density housing build in the surrounding areas. \n\nThe population growth here has wildly exceeded the amount of housing growth in the last few decades. Not to mention the insufficient wages, high cost of living and a broken healthcare system. Our people are struggling but if you have to live in a city right now, I'd choose the greater Vancouver area. Down the road, I see us improving the most infrastructure-wise out of any Canadian city, which will hopefully benefit social sectors as well. 17 ZvSNcnG2eqY

2 years, 1 month ago @EBLC90 I've lived in Canada, Metro Vancouver area, back in 2017...it was already a bloodbath, now I see it's even worse. \n \nI ran away and returned to Italy after 8 months, after I discovered I had to skip meals in order to survive, something I've never experienced here in my country as a former low income citizen. Never had a single regret. 191 ZvSNcnG2eqY

2 years, 1 month ago @blvany On the positive side, at least Canada doesn't have a piece of fascist human garbage like Donald Trump within striking distance of the Presidency. The U.S. has a lot of good things going for it, but I don't believe they will survive a second Trump term. 0 ZvSNcnG2eqY

2 years, 1 month ago @stephandalejo I remember visiting Canada and trying to get a cell phone data plan, it was imposible as a tourist without any Canadian documents. I ended up paying like $70 usd for 4GB of data with Roger which was insane. Now I just cross US/Canada border and bring my Starlink with me. The things I love about Canada is the dog friendly National Parks and the landscapes. Prices have gotten out of hand ? 0 ZvSNcnG2eqY

2 years, 1 month ago @marianoherrera6038 Canada did exactly what China tried to do minus the industrialization. They tried to constantly prop up their housing market because Canada is such a uncompetitive economy because of all the trash and inneficient regulations. So basically the housing market absorbed all the money via quick appreciation of the assets but now their whole economy is distorted and in shambles. Worst thing is it will come crashing down in the end 1 ZvSNcnG2eqY

2 years, 1 month ago @WhatWillYouFind 90% of Canada is virtually untouched since the days of Colonialism. The small areas that are developed or connected to developed regions are mimicking the horrors of bad American economic policies which have made life extremely expensive and hostile. To top it all off one of the major economic hubs primary languages is fusion of French and as we all know, no one likes the French. /s 0 ZvSNcnG2eqY
