Comment section is genuinely just a far right echo chamber full of uneducated “free thinking” conservatives who know nothing about inflation or immigration.

I lived in Canada for 11 years, 2008 - 2019, went to university and worked in Toronto. I come from an upper-middle class family in China, went to a top university in Canada, landed good jobs and I speak English like a native. I got my PR in 2015 and I remember the painful uphill battle I had to go through just get that. All the bureaucracy, redtape, unnecessarily rigid rules, high cost and long wait I received from CIC/IRCC felt like a humiliation to me. Every document was scrutinized and every step had obstacle that fealt unreasonable (my TOEFL examiner ask me why I had to do the language test required by CIC, and I had to visit a notary to validate my Chinese national ID card). It felt uneasy but I understood that these were the rules that everyone had to go through, and moving and integrating into a new society was never meant to be easy. I went back to Canada in 2021 and 2024, and it was evident that the country I once called home had gone down the hill. The streets were screaming crime, unemployment, inflation, drug and filth, it's total social rot. As someone who went through the whole immigration process (and many of my friends who went through the same have left Canada for good, like myself), I attribute much of this to failed immigration policy. I cannot help but feel confused, angry, betrayed and humiliated when I look at the recent immigration policies of Canada and their results, and compare with what I had to go through. The feeling sums up to: Canada penalizes the hard-working and law-abiding people, and rewards the undeserved and the cheaters. Example: when the US creates wars in the Middle East, why does CANADA bear the cost of bringing in refugees? I never regretted moving back to China and East Asia, and I feel bad for those who still truly think of Canada as home, as I am one myself. When the leadership of a country deviates from pragmatism, reason and common sense, and instead embraces idealogies, hypocrisy and political optics, this is what happens. The prices are paid by everyone, immigrant or not. For this, Trudeau deserves a court trial for his incompetence and dereliction of duty; and the people of Canada need some honest and serious retrospection. I will share some words of wisdom by the late Lee Kwan Yew: “Whoever governs Singapore (LKY was the PM and founding father of Singapore) must have that iron in him. Or give it up. This is not a game of cards, this is your life and mine. I've spent a whole lifetime building this and as long as I'm in charge, nobody is going to knock it down.” I hope the clownish weakling politicians in Canada (and, in much of the western world nowadays) can be enlightened a little bit.

As an American Donald Trump was a mistake. It's time for the American people to wake up and admit their mistakes. An inflated ego is not good. My fellow American we don't want a president with an inflated ego, who will never admit his mistake. People will definitely die because of this fool of a man. Imagine 5 years or 4 years of this. I can go on for many paragraphs but what's the point since I firmly know that my point will be proven in less than a year. Don't forget the employment rate keeps rising, inflation is rising. No wages increase for the citizens of the country. Medical and Medicaid will be cut as well as social security. Mass layoffs, it's also not easy to get a new job. Well I think we will have to migrate to other countries but that will not help. The only solution is to have him removed from the oval office.

I cannot see any sanity, logic, or forward looking, with putting tariffs on our allies. It is hurtful to everyday Americans. Who benefits from this? The wealthy, like t-rump, and his cronies. Meanwhile the traitorious Supreme Court works on bending the law to suit t-rumps bidding. We are early in this presidency. If you think inflation was a very serious concern of t-rump or the repubies, why doesn't he fix it right now? What he is doing is causing inflation to skyrocket with no end in sight. Those of you wealthy who think t-rump is right are a leach who feeds off of taking from those who have little to nothing. If t-rump wanted to he could fix it on day one like he said. He has no idea what he is doing - laying off thousands of federal workers. He wants to bring jobs to America by becoming a traitor to our very faces with putin. you repubes are all traitors to what the Flag stands for. Those jobs won't come in the next 4 years. If there are no manufacturing plants in the U.S. we will have to build them. How long will it take to build these factories and tool them up to accept workers? None of what the repubes agenda is set about bringing jobs to America - the way I see it, we are losing jobs now. The factories won't be ready for years. You who voted for this freak - I hope you suffer the most.

Imagine voting for Trump over inflation while he was saying he would use tariffs and people thinking it wouldn't affect them. So naive. Trump is an agent of chaos who is anathema to everything this country stands for, and it's self-evident by his actions. We are a country who is strong because of our friends around the world and no one will trust this country when we keep putting an idiot in office who doesn't honor former president's agreements. You can't work with a country who won't stick to it's agreements. You wouldn't tolerate a friend like that, and this is the same thing on a macro level.

I don't think most Americans realize how much the price of everyday items clothing, electronics, toiletries/cosmetics, food, housing, etc will increase because of these tariffs. If they think inflation was bad under Biden, they haven't seen anything yet.

People who do not know how the customs duty system works think that the customs duty is paid by the country where the goods are imported, but this is not true. The importer company pays the customs duty in the country that imports. The importer company collects the tax it pays from the people of that country by adding it to the price of the goods it sells in that country. Therefore, a 25% customs duty will cause the price of the products sold in the United States to increase. The increase in product prices will also cause inflation to increase. Inflation will cause the purchasing power of people in the United States to decrease.

Trump's rationale of the border security issue to Canada is totally false as less than 1 percent of drugs and illegals come through Canada. Trump is just being a bully to try to get his way on tariffs for what he thinks is an economic decision to improve the USA. Unfortunately he is again wrong as Americans and Canadians will pay a lot more for goods and Trump will cause more inflation, ruin companies and many job losses across both nations.

This will impact the labor force as well as the dwindling number of workers paying into the social security system, but don't let good old fashion racism get in the way of thinking this stuff through more thoroughly. it's great that people are pointing out about visas but why no data analysis about country basic problems? if we sort those out, we would be rather thinking whose visa we need to grant and whom to reject?\n1. why no question on regulations on digitalization? Trump is such a dumbass. He thinks the tariffs will be paid by exporting countries like Mexico, China, and Canada. The Trump tariffs will be paid by American manufacturers and American consumers. Everything is about to become a lot more expensive in the US, especially with a 25% tariff on the 4.5 million barrels of oil Canada ships to the US every day. At best, inflation becomes a bigger problem, and Americans lose their jobs. At worst, Trump's tariffs cause a made in America recession.

Why would anyone be led to think the job market v. Cost of living is better anywhere? The entire globe experienced inflation, and capitlaism has failed because it is not a form of government.

Is it a joke that 25 percent of Canada would join the USA strictly because of mass immigration and inflation? Healthcare and crime? I don’t think so.

I think the President has very limited power to affect prices most Americans are concerned about. The Justice Dept can prosecute price fixing, Commerce can go after monopolies but President cannot snap his fingers and lower the price of eggs or your rent. He has no power over interest rates. Unfortunately the President can raise inflation with dumb policies.

Economic indicators say the economy was good. The economy and GDP grew, but the working class didn’t think so. Well, when the number of illegal immigrants per year far exceeds the number of new jobs per year, then the wages of the working class people will not keep up with inflation. Under Biden, the new jobs each year was an average of 1.2 million, but the number of illegal immigrants coming in looking for jobs was over 2 million people. For comparison, under Obama illegal immigration was just 300-400K per year. So as you can now see, the border crisis was a much bigger issue than the Democrats cared to admit.

last time Trump was in the office and as a way to thank Jesus, Trump did make it so 1M died by defunding healthcare and say covid was just a myth and later sade it was just a mild flu. But who cares if one can just hand over the problem on the next president and blame the inflation on Biden that had not even moved in to the white house yet. While why not blame leaving afganistan on him also even though Trump did sign the order. one can think adults stands for what they do, but one can also vote to not fix the border problems as Trump and the Republicans have done. In Turkey, they increase the prices by tricking people that prices will eventually increase, so buy it right now. THIS caused a loop and huge inflation also rush to houses, cars, hard products etc. That way, companies make enormous profits especially construction companies & car manufacturers. Why did government decide to do that so? Because government wanted to secure financial status of these big companies without banks giving them loans by transferring wealth from people to companies.\n\nThere is another side for these moves: Globally, there is an ongoing plan to lower birthrate in well-developed countries such as Canada, France, Germany etc. Why is that? They say, people from western countries create more carbon emissions than people in India, Bangladesh etc and in order to ensure green transformation of energy, birthrate must(?) fall. \n\nThere are also other reasons that we live in difficult times. But that's enough. We, people, have to do something. The day passes without a protest, governments & big companies get more strength and enforces hard conditions on people.
