Why, why, why - with all the problems going on in the world right now to tackle - why would you want to start a trade war with your closest trading partner & most loyal ally? The only reason the US imports so much from Canada is because the Democrats stopped production of all the materials Canada supplies the US because of their green policies. \nBut President Trump is reopening the gas, oil, electricity and agriculture production, so they won’t need to import so much from Canada, in fact probably reducing it substantially. \nProbably what will happen now is discussions on various goods to become equal on terms of cost in both countries levelling the playing field.

Historically, tariffs have been imposed to support production of American goods. Think cotton, steel, other raw materials the U.S. used to produce in past centuries. For the past several decades, America has not produced many raw materials because it's cheaper to buy them from countries who can pay their workers less to keep the cost of production low. It's impossible to quickly begin producing these things here, so Trumplethinskin's tariffs will do nothing but piss off our trading partners and dramatically increase the prices Americans pay for a long list of essential goods.
