In the last 10 years it has turned into, burglary, home invasion, auto theft, gun violence, shootings central. When perpetrators of these crimes are caught. It’s no surprise where they are from. There is tons of illegal, fake colleges. Bringing hundreds of people in a year. The Canadian government is only now catching onto it barely but the damage is done. They exploited the system in overstay their visa, then claim permanent residency. These people are disrespectful, dirty, and ungrateful. They do not Do not assimilate to Canadian lifestyle. They throw trash into our rivers in parks, turning it into where they came from. What is happening in Canada is much similar to Minnesota just with different types of government scams. I am a born and raised Canadian and have seen my country go downhill for at least the last couple of decades.\nHealth Care: doctors and nurses are moving Stateside in droves. No, the US doesn’t have universal health care but there are insurance plans and the care is enormously better. My girlfriend had 4th stage throat cancer. In Calgary the doctors at some point told her there was nothing more they could do for her and to get her affairs in order. Her father sent her to the Anderson Clinic in Houston - yes it was expensive but they treated her, saved her life and that was 24 years ago. \nIt’s common in our emergency rooms to wait up to 12 hours to be seen. \nOur system isn’t progressive and doctors and nurses don’t get paid near as well as in the States. That being said, I am happy that I don’t have to pay to see the doctor or have a stay in the hospital. \nCost of Living: Once upon a time it was good - housing was cheap and many companies had the full range of benefits and salaries were equal to the cost of living. Now these same companies have stripped the benefits by hiring people under contract so they don’t have to give them benefits. \nRents are through the roof and in Calgary there are no rent caps. Buying a decent house in a decent neighbourhood is impossible unless you inherit or make a six figure income. This, in no small part, has created a homelessness crisis that never had been seen in such numbers before. Crime also is getting worse by the day. Canada was once known as a safe country. This is no longer the case.\nEverything is very expensive and the tax very high. Plus, we have to suffer winter! Where I live, the joke is that we have two seasons - July and winter!\nI still like my city (not love) but I am retired and own two houses - one inherited and the other bought when it was affordable (32 years ago). Calgary would not be a place I would live if I was a newcomer. Vancouver is beautiful but you really pay for it. \nTrudeau has helped make a big mess of things with immigration and lax criminal laws. My beef is not with immigrants I must state - it is with the lack of jobs for them when they come, thereby forcing bad living conditions and an over reliance on the social systems. I add that the immigration population is much more willing to work in jobs they have to take (despite a high education) than our natural and bloated citizens.\nSo yes, Canada has increasingly gone downhill. On a positive note, hand guns at least are not legal and our country has beautiful natural land.

I been to Canada 10 times over the years and Canadians were friendly and welcoming, not so much now and it’s not racism it is because the uneducated, uncivilised uncultured Indians and Khalistanis who find their way into the country through fraudulent means and run a muck . They don’t follow rules and regulations, they are always after easy money, get involved in crime, drug trafficking, gun smuggling etc. some of these so called students can’t put two words of English together are suppose to be uni students. The immigration dept in Canada has failed the Canadian people. Mind you there are lot of Canadians of Indian origin who are highly qualified and skilled who are model citizens of the country.

Homelessness. Poverty. Drug addiction. Real estate costs. Crime and home invasion. Gun violence. LONG waits for health care. These (and more) are relatively recent developments in Canada, and I too am saddened by it.\n\nI was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, 70 years ago. I remember a much different country growing up.\n\nToday, our government has become sclerotic, especially under Justin. Our economy is much weaker. Our foreign relations with China (my parents' home country) are in the toilet. And we recently gave a standing ovation to a Nazi war criminal in Parliament. What the f--- is going on???

As a Torontonian born and raised here it’s had a couple shifts in feel over the past decades. Around the mid 90s, there was an increase of gun violence, crime and theft in the city which caused my family to move out to the burbs. I moved back during the 2009 recession for higher education at one of the institutions downtown. At that time, there wasn’t much violence at all. We went out til the wee hours of the morning from Fashion district (Queen and Richmond) to Honest Eds (Bathurst and Bloor), to Yonge and Dundas square. There were still some homeless people then, but fast forward to now, it’s gotten aggressive. Instead of the homeless people keeping in their camps, but now, they have been displaced, are angry, mental health issues are rampant and incidents can happen anywhere. I think we have the right mayor in place now to make some positive changes for the social issues in the city and I am optimistic that we can get it cleaned up over time. For now though, I agree with the sentiment, come for a visit, but maybe skip out on living here until the social issues get sorted. You always have to keep an eye on the back of your head these days.

It should have been condemned and contained immediately. Muslims who pride themselves as followers of a peaceful religion should have empathized and consoled the grieving Jews. \n\nThere was a lot of time to do this. There was a lengthy delay between the attack and Israel’s ground offensive in Gaza. Instead of taking this time to condemn Hamas’s slaughter, Arab and Muslim politicians and government leaders promoted anti-Jewish hate to shore up their political support. This is nothing less than encouraging antisemitism. \n\nMuslim political and religious leaders, barring rare exceptions, chose to contextualize, equivocate and, in most cases, justify Hamas’s barbarity. What we have, as a result, is widespread hate bordering on violence in Canada — a country where communities have historically lived side-by-side in peace. \n\nThe situation got worse due to the statements made by community leaders like Amira Elghawaby, Canada’s special representative on combating Islamophobia, who did not hide her partisan and divisive outlook by clearly siding with the protesters on Canadian streets, characterizing them as “peaceful demonstrations,” even though we have seen people supporting Hamas, calling for genocide against Israeli Jews and harassing and intimidating Jewish-owned businesses. \n\nOn Twitter, Elghawaby approvingly cited a quote from a Toronto Star column reading, “The stories I have heard are both fantastical and true. Muslims (and others who silently sympathize with the loss of Palestinians lives) are being disciplined, maligned, isolated and targeted at work.” \n\nInstead of reaching across the aisle and consoling the Jewish community, she has instead chosen to focus her public comments on rising Islamophobia. \n\nSeriously? Remember the Muslim family who were killed in a hate-related attack in London, Ont., a couple years ago? All communities, including the Jewish community, across the political and religious spectrum unambiguously condemned that hate crime. And it brought a sense of relief and security to Muslims in Ontario. \n\nRemember how, after more that 50 people were gunned down while worshipping at mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019, political and religious leaders from all faiths stood behind Muslims and consoled them? \n\nAlso, after the Quebec mosque attack, almost all communities in Canada chose to stand with Muslims. There were images of people in Alberta who formed a human chain to protect Muslims. Similar scenes were witnessed elsewhere in the country. Jewish community leaders spoke out, loud and clear, in support of Muslims and against hate and bigotry. \n\nBut that is not what Elghawaby did. Instead, she makes it sounds as though it is Muslims who are the victims, while failing to mention the barbarity unleashed on Oct. 7. This is not leadership. This is not her mandate. Her job is to promote tolerance as enshrined in Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. \n\nNow imagine a scenario in which Muslims did what they ought to have done in the first place: condemned the Hamas attack, sided with the Jewish victims and dissociated themselves from terrorism. I’ve also been to 70% of US States, and every time I’m nervous as everything is just so different and you don’t feel safe. \n\nYour streets are definitely different than ours, and quite dirty to say the least. \n\nI’d rather live on the streets of Toronto, then live in an State in the U.S. \n\nThe only State I’ve been too where I’ve felt a tad bit safe was Idaho, but even then, I was still uptight! \n\nCanada also has higher standards when it comes to hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, food, etc. \n\nI live bordering Buffalo, NY and am even scared to cross for a sports game or shopping, although It’s not that terrible over there. \n\nYour gun laws are scary, and although I have a license to carry here in Canada, the U.S. needs to be much more stricter and also not allow sales of them on every block! \n\nI have hundreds of friends in the US, and sometimes their wait times for appointments are much longer than mine, and I don’t have to claim bankruptcy afterwards.

I lived in the US for 4 years. I was 12 when I moved with my parents. I had a teacher who expelled me from school on my first day. I refused to do a pledge to their flag. The teacher went nuts. I said I was not pledging anything yo a flag of another country. The teacher then tried to tell me that I was lying and that Canada was a state, not a country, so I had been pledging my whole life. This was a teacher, and I did not know Canada was not part of the US. He called me a traitor and that I should be charged, then had me expelled. When I came back to Canada, I had to take an extra year of school because my grade 11 from the US was so far behind. The US school system was bizarre. The had clubs where people dressed like the military and marched around. They were taught to fire guns, and it was all part of school. They spend more time learning about their history and never learn about so much of it. It was like an oxymoron. The teacher did not know about the War of 1812, did not know that Washington was still trying to stay with in the British Crown even months before the end of their insurrection, and that Canada was a major contributor to the US moon race. It was a very confusing tome for me. Thing I had learned in elementary school, where just being taught in middle school, and other things were so far a head I did not follow like things about their Presidents. They could not spell, yet I got makered wrong for it and I found the teacher were either very nice or true demons, and they knew nothing but their own subject. I also felt like I was treated not as a student but as a criminal who had just not commented on a crime yet. Very strange.

Those that think and keep saying that Toronto is a 'World Class city' need to give their head a shake...it's a shit hole. Crime is through the roof and pushing outwards towards other areas of the GTA; the defacing of buildings and other structures is saddening, just can't wait for the Docklands project to turn into just another shit hole .The police don't care, cyclists and drivers have turned this place into a hell hole to get around, traffic is at a standstill. I came here in 88, I moved to the outer GTA and even that is experiencing guns and gangs and increasing crime. Canada is so expensive, even travelling across country is more expensive than travelling out of the country. As much as I am grateful to this country it is no better now than a 3rd world country, in fact some 3rd world countries have better standards....I'm outta here.

These issues are big city problems, and seen far worse in the US. If you go to NYC, you will see cost of living being astronomical (much higher than Toronto), homelessness being worse, crime is worse and mental health services are non existent. The same is true for LA. \nIn fact, in the US petty crime is more lethal due to the mass access to firearms and rampant gun violence. \nThings can be better in Toronto but it is still far better than many equivalent cities in the US.

Small towns in the US have much higher crime rates and homicide rates than the larger cities. They aren't safe at all. Mass shootings are more frequent in small towns. Some American cities have roughly as many murders as Canada in it's worst year. It's not just the gun violence or mass shootings, it's the violence which permeates the entire environment, cities, schools, culture.

I'm Canadian and worked in Dertoit for almost 10 years, I crossed the border daily working for GM. I've also done work in Louisiana, Indiana and all around Michigan. \nAmerica has some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. It's a beautiful country and has a ton to offer anyone with an ounce of drive. The variety you have in your economy is amazing, we don't have a lot of choice when we buy stuff, you guys have so much more to choose from, take restaurants for example, I've never seen so many chain restaurants in one place, we have a handful of them. \nFrom what I've seen, there's also a lot of poverty, crime and violence, but that's literally everywhere right now, even here in Canada, we don't prosecute violent crime anymore. The gun issue is probably the biggest problem...I always felt extremely vulnerable out in public, especially driving, because I assumed everyone had a gun on them, I seen so many random guns on people, it just blew my mind. I always had to keep in mind when I was driving not to road-rage...That's how you get shot. The health care industry in America is nothing but a business model designed to bankrupt people. Our system isn't great at all...nothing to boast about. If you have to visit the ER at any hospital, you'd better bring food and water, you'll be there at least 8 hours before you're even seen by a doctor. Our health care is free yes, but we're taxed to death here because of it. I do indeed wish we had a 2-teir health care system, I want the option to pay to get seen soonest. America and Canada have free(ish) speech. We're both being ruled by leftist loonies, but that's all changing in our next respective election cycles. Biden and Trudeau will be shown the door and we can hopefully get back to healthy debate and more conversation in society...Instead of automatically dismissing each other, vitriolic badgering one another and hating each other. We had unity for a brief time, we all saw it, after 9/11 happened. We put our petty crap aside and saw each other as brothers and sisters. That didn't last very long and we've been in a constant state of crisis ever since. The media has driven a huge nail right through society, and takes a blow at every single issue we face, making it Left vs Right...\nIt's unfortunate to say, but it's going to take something truly devastating, possibly on a biblical scale, for us to come together again.

I would never move to america, too much crime related to gun violence, we have health care we have no over population we have the most lakes in the world and our people are friendly.

Canada has starbucks and mcdonalds as well. I enjoy not having guns being the number killer of kids, not having literal PRO NAZI groups rising like crazy, and not insane amounts of violence and hate crimes based on what people look like.\nAlso, IN America, you pay more for much worse outcomes. Your healthcare costs way more and you get way less. \nYour healthcare is good if you're rich, for everyone else, its f#$king garbage.

There are a lot of people up here jump to the shootings as a reason and as much as there is gun violence down there, we aren’t better. I live in Surrey and people are shot every day here. Not to mention our knife crime and random killings are getting out of control.\n\nWe also have to take in to account that Reddit is primarily left leaning which I think if you’re left leaning you wouldn’t want to leave but I think the United States attracts more conservatives.\n\nCanada is not doing better on a lot of things policy wise. We are being torn apart by our current prime minister.

Toronto, a city of 4 million has around 60-70 homicides per year, a bad weekend in Chicago. Canadians rightly fear U.S. gun violence, some of it spills across the border too. Most of the guns used in crime are smuggled from the U.S. I know many people that will not travel to the U.S. anymore, myself included. Too much hassle and too many problems.

Yes and if these people truly believed in God and Jesus they wouldn't run from their countries but actually stay on the ground and stand strong in their faith that God and Jesus are going to help them persevere through all this. As a fully disabled American citizen with a child that doesn't even get $1,000 a month and there's no available housing at all where I live no waiting list to go on people on SSI disability don't get any extra housing help we're not offered separate housing are put on separate lists and low-income Able Body people or the migrants jumping the Border but I was born and raised here paid taxes and worked until my body literally couldn't anymore but I don't hear anybody bitching and screaming and crying about the fact that my son and I would be on the streets if it hadn't been for one of my family members stepping up and giving his housing after a lifetime restraining order issued during my pregnancy on my son's biological do do with domestic abuse situation. I'm also US citizen that spent time in the Wards in Houston and projects and other cities and if you don't think that we don't have the same gun violence drug trafficking human trafficking gangs take it over cartels taking over neighborhoods and communities than you're freaking lying to yourself and everybody else. The same s*** that's taken over these countries is taking over the inner cities have been for decades and these are the same communities that most of these people will end up in. No it's not about not being good Christians part of being a good Christian is reminding people to stand their ground and have faith in Jesus and God and their own home territory and not to give it up to the crime people in the bad politicians. You can't say you believe in God and Jesus Christ and then he's got your back while you're running and that's the truth in the reality that nobody wants to hear the more people run from these countries the more the bad people are able to take over and then we get complaints here in the states about the cost attacks is rightfully so. For those people screaming and shouting that everybody should go out pick up in my grant and bring them home to their house and feed them and take them and I challenge you to do the same thing for homeless before you even do the migrant do homeless American citizens go out and really educate yourself because I'm totally tired of hearing from Americans that the only people that live on the streets are people with mental health problems that need mental health treatment or people that are stoned out and that's where they want to be you guys are so f****** wrong and this is coming from someone that met homeless people spent time around homeless people and understand we have a society that wants to paints a very different picture than what's truly going on because then it allows for hey it's not our problem they want to be there. I remind people all the time and they hate hearing this s*** Jesus never had a house as a matter of fact Jesus basically live like a homeless person after he was an adult particularly and God made sure he was provided for. I mean did you all forget the night they came to take them away they were asleep in an Open Garden it wasn't like they popped up tents or glamper camper sites had some little Adobe type cabins they were sleeping in. As a matter of fact if you pay attention to most of the stories about Jesus and talking about him sleeping he does a lot of sleeping Outdoors. Remember God is a father that's how he's been represented and talked about in the Bible and Jesus was a man without a doubt no biological transgender question ability there. People need to remember that part of being a fair and loving. Is also teaching and discipline and these children following rules. I don't believe hearing God and Jesus telling all these people run from your countries and not have faith that I'm actually going to fix things for you and go run to somebody else actually go run to the United States where all those stuff is traveling through. I never understood the logic of that it's like rats run from the country where they're making the drugs to the country that supplying the globe with it and we're all of these bad people have thousands of people in planted everywhere with guns and hookups. I don't know why people don't understand that we have dirty lawn forcement in dirty politicians that are in bed with the dirty drug cartels that's as much as they are in the country. You don't think that there's not decisions made in the United States based on drugs and I'm not talking about how to put it into them but how to keep them flowing. I have Fred still in Florida and we were all making jokes about how quickly Sanibel Island all the way up to st. Pete got Mainland access so quickly after the last major hurricane that took everything down and we all know what it's from is because that portion of Florida is used to bring a lot of drugs in from South America, Central America. So for all of you that want to post your personal assumptions about homeless people because that's all it is unless you've actually been homeless or spent time around homeless you really have no clue what's going on in the homeless population except what you've been told by the same political talking head media bulshit that's been lying to everybody about a bunch of other stuff too. Don't you get it the politicians don't want people knowing that a lot of the people that are homeless on the street are people that are disabled and aren't disabled because they have mental health problems I know that's the narrative they've been trying to stuff down people's throats.

First let me say that every country and I do mean every single one has their pluses and minuses Canada's major plus is the fact that crime is almost nonexistent as opposed to the United States where there is a mass murder every single day and a mass murder defined as four or more people killed in One Time by one person this does not even count where there is just two or three people killed at one time they're not included in the statistics the United States is out of control with violence guns you name it and I've lived here for 40 years I spent the first 20 years in Canada in my life was so perfect that I can't even dream of a better life the problem with most people is they move to the larger cities Vancouver Toronto I grew up 40 miles outside of Montreal on the great Majestic St Lawrence River one of the truly great rivers in this world my parents had a summer home on the river and every summer it was water skiing fishing boating golfing swimming you name it growing up 40 miles outside of Montreal if you wanted The Nightlife of Montreal one of the great International cities in this world then you could just drive there in less than an hour and enjoy the great nightlife that is Montreal as someone who is French and Italian I loved the winters because ice hockey was my favorite sport and I played all the sports nothing even comes close to the speed skill and excitement of ice hockey it is like soccer on steroids they're only two cold months during the winter January and February and even then it's really enjoyable as long as the temperature stayed below 32° I was happy because that meant that they could make outdoor ice rinks and I could enjoy my favorite sport of ice hockey all winter long Outdoors as someone who's lived all over the United States over the last 40 years I wouldn't trade Canada for any place else the United States is full of scammers I've been in all kinds of businesses working for different companies and there's rarely a company that I didn't get cheated by and had to take to the labor board for justice and compensation I trust nobody the main thing here is stay away from the major cities of Vancouver and Toronto and you will be able to have a great life with affordable housing and if you're into the outdoors Sports Canada is the greatest and best secondly Canada has the third largest oil reserves in the world and so there are a lot of Natural Resources that Canada has that is wealth for the country that will filter down to the average person what people don't realize is it when you live I've lived in Southern United States and most places the summers are unbelievably excruciatingly suffocatingly miserably hot hot hot at least in the Colder Weather you just put on some great looking ski wear and you can be outdoors and not be bothered by the cold because you eventually a climatize yourself to it Canada is the second largest country in the world by land area and has only a 35 million population there is a lot of room for growth and opportunity and in a safe safe environment to raise a family and at the end of the day that's what it's all about I wish I could say the same for the United States being safe but no it is not and Mexico is they have six out of the top 10 most dangerous cities in the world and Tijuana is the most dangerous city in the world with almost 2000 murders and the year is not over don't believe me just Google it the reality is that the drug cartels control everything in Mexico and the police and politicians are afraid because the cartels are so ruthless there is way too much money to be made in selling drugs and the cartels will stop at nothing to make sure they get their money by the way most of my family still lives in Canada and are doing extremely well for themselves and I am the only fool that moved to the US

I'm Canadian and I love both Canada and the US. However, I don't think I would live permanently in the US because I think life is better in Canada overall. We have free healthcare, so no medical bills and no health insurance to deal with. Only a bigger tax bill that doesn't change according to your health situation. We have much less crime, especially gun related crime. We have less poverty and a much better social safety net. It horrifies me how many Americans are homeless even if they previously had a good job, but they had to stop working because of a health condition. We have less political extremism and polarization. Extremist Christians have no control over our politics, so LGBTQ+ rights and women's rights are much safer here than in the US. We don't have cities being burnt down by antifa on one side, and elections and social peace being jeopardized by MAGA extremists on the other. On a more positive note, I love the weather of the US, their fast food joints, their local food, the landscapes, the cheaper gas and all the attractions. I really wish the US could solve all its problems and become a better country. Maybe one day, we could end up similar and open our borders like Europeans do with the Schengen Accord.
