I visited my friend in Toronto. He warned me about Brampton, Ontario. One of the worst drivers in Canada. They drive like they drive back home. The guy on the bike really speak his minds. I wouldn’t call him racist. He doesn’t recognize Canada anymore.

I lived in Brampton when its populations was 16,000 and it had a wooden bridge that crossed the Etobicoke Creek that ran across Hwy10 south at Meadowland park. It was washed away in 1965 flood. Small town, very 'orange', ie. Scottish protestant. Zero ethnics. Heck, they even hated the Catholics and wouldn't let them build the first Catholic church without a battle. It had one cinema downtown that charged .25cents for kids and .50cents for an adult ticket. It had a public pool that all the kids peed in during the summer and a red brick library which we went to religiously, every Friday to change our books. That town has completely disappeared. I used to drive to Brampton once a month for a meeting but decided driving into Brampton was such a risky behaviour especially on Bovaird, that I stopped going. Brampton has lost it character and exploded into a monstrous tract of cookie cutter box houses and strip malls. No one knows anyone else and there are no real neighbourhoods. If this is progress, give me the good old days when we could ride our bikes up and along Kennedy Road to Heart Lake conservation and go wading in the creek looking for tadpoles all day.

5:30 minutes in guy on the bike is right in some aspects as I’ve worked with a few and they’re slow and take longer to pick things up they do eventually get the hang of things but their work ethic is very low. We have pretty much very similar challenges in Australia. I would say living cost is even higher than Canada. But the good aspect is the weather. In Western Australia we enjoy over 300d Blue sunny skies and in Winter although rainy, we seldom get below freezing temperatures. So i don't need to worry about damaging my LFP batteries for my Offgrid solar system.\nAnother benefit is the bike path network in WA is extensive. You can pretty much get to anywhere on a bike, riding mostly on a very nice and safe bike path. I cover 60km every day travelling to/from work on my ebike. And it takes less than 1 hour for each trip.\nCrime rate has been getting worse though. It is fuel by drug use. Basically go private or subject your kids to liberal ideology and creative learning which puts math and literacy scores at a 20 year low.\n2) terrible Healthcare system. You can wait in line for 1 hour at a walk in clinic. 6 hours at emergency. There's hardly any doctors working.\n3) terrible transit. The public transit is outdated. The roads are always busy with 3 year long construction projects. They actively reduce road lanes to add in bicycle lanes, that are only uses half the year because no one rides a bicycle in -10 degree C. But yeah, we'll still plow the bike lane with tax payer $.\n4) increase in crime. More recent development but lets say it started picking up during the lockdowns in 2020. A lot of immigrants that don't give a f about the law. They don't give a f about the police. They get out on bail the next day. They do crime in broad daylight. It's insane. I don't feel safe. In the past 2 years - I have spent 3 months in Toronto, and last year, 3 months in Montreal...and it is like the Tale of Two Cities! In Toronto, I stayed at a friend's off the park that abuts Queens St, and Dundas St. on the far side. I barely got a good night's sleep - from the constant wailing of Sirens at ALL Hours of the night/early morning! I witnessed several incidents of random violence - including on the trolly cars, and many of them involving homeless Indigenous people ...who were historically shit-on by Canada! In comparison to US Cities - Toronto minded me of problem-plagued SF, Seattle, and Portland. The Density factor reminded me of NYC, minus the Positive Street savvy that New Yorkers have in spades! I did meet some very nice people, but overall - Torontonians were uptight, concerned about money all the time, and sometimes - just downright rude! Fast-Forward to Montreal. I stayed in Le Plateau...renting a room for 3 months. Lovely House-mates - One Turkish/Polish Woman, and an Iranian Man - both were quirky, and Delightful! My rent was very decent, and my Host showed me all the affordable places to eat, swim for free, free Yoga in the parks...within 2 days, I felt at Home! It was 3 days before I even noticed a siren! Drivers stoped for pedestrians, and as it was summer - the bike-lanes were full of bike riders! The Green Spaces were plentiful, and Parc Mount Royal is a Terrestrial Paradise! Were there some social issues? - of Course! French being the official language, the Quebecois are a VERY Proud, and defiant lot! That was difficult at first, and then...learning some history of Quebec, you begin to understand their irascible defenses! There was some homelessness (a Fraction of what I see in the US, and Toronto!), and prices are creeping-up (the common complaint!), and there was a lot of construction, and road repairs - as Quebec is NOT a wealthy part of Canada, overall. In short - I miss Montreal DEEPLY! Toronto? - I have a good friend there, and I hope to see a few of the folks I met there, Again. Travel Impressions are mainly subjective, but I know where my heart, and affection lie!

Speaking as someone living in South Vancouver, here are two rules I live by:\n\n1) Never leave your bike outside for extended periods of time. Especially closer to a downtown area because it will get stolen. If thieves can't get through your lock, they'll just strip the bike everything that isn't locked down. It's actually very common to see just a bike frame locked to something while missing every other part. \n\n2) Don't go to downtown Vancouver as it's drug city. It's the one downtown area in metro Vancouver that I say has zero redeeming factors. All the other neighbouring cities are nice, with Richmond in my opinion being the best of the bunch, but downtown Vancouver? It's the closest experience to Seattle in Canada that you'll find.

Maybe outside of Toronto is not bad but down town , is terrible . Traffic is unbelievable, most streets got reduced to one lane with addition of bike lines . How smart, considering Toronto has 5 months of winter, and no maintenance or delivery trucks can not stop anywhere without blocking the street. Other thing is bums and junkies everywhere. They walk around covered in puke shit and piss,screaming and intimidating other people . If you leave car unlocked they will steal stuff. Streets are covered with garbage , shit , piss and puke , what a great city :))).

Rules are Rules. If you have a bullet bike with a thundering Silencer than take just take it off, if its not allowed by the law. Simple as that. \nRules are there before the world even existed. Its not all about one person flexing about their culture or trying to act like a big Gunda Tribe??. \nWell, done by those police.

Lucky you , you did not stay there in the winter or else you would have committed suicide ??.. only job in the winter is to pee come back & watch TV & blow every day snow from the drive way … yes every day ? but I do not live in Canada, I have many family members living there I keep going there as well , I am settled in the US .. but the so called problems of yours in Canada is the same here in the US as well but for me these are the things I love love out here …. Particular about timings , no one comes home without calling , every one is of same standard, kids don’t have to study like donkeys day & night … ( for what ) … out here to have a RV, a boat , suv , saloon car , a bike for summer ride are within every ones reach … at-least that was all my dream … I live in a city yet I have a private 1/2 acre private plot whereas in Mumbai I will have to be a film star ?? here there is no hanji hunji .. I hated the most …out here anywhere we go we take our token number & we are looked after accordingly lastly out here in the west the most amazing thing & the most important thing in life is .. let’s say your business is lost or your job is gone your neighbour’s don’t care you can start from scratch again .. In India one has to commit suicide ????

I stay in Toronto because of my kids who are teenagers. Aside from enjoying singing in my choir and living in the Beaches area… I’d leave in a heart beat. I loathe driving into the city! You basically can’t anymore as the roads are taken over with bike lanes… There is constant construction everywhere and they removed the Gardiner heading east so everyone has to take Lakeshore in! That road is a nightmare due to construction everywhere. There are many more homeless people and long lines to food banks I’ve never seen in the 35 years I’ve been here! Rent is insane as mentioned with no one doing anything about it!
