I'm glad Tyler is more or less neutral in his findings. It's true, many Indian's have come to Canada and I'm sure many do wish for a better life. Canadians understand this, but the methods the government of Canada is doing to push the numbers too high and too quickly is what's surprising to many. It's the accountability of the government that should be under scrutiny. If immigration was moderate and consistent, the social issues would not be as rampant, but social media loves stir the pot. This is also happening while Canada's housing infrastructure is crumbling, healthcare is deteriorating and general cost of living in Canada has skyrocketed and priced many Canadians out of simple living and enjoyment. Do you think Canadians today are as happy or well off as Canadians even 5 years ago? Do the results reflect that of other countries besides Canada?

It's worse than this video shows. I don't live in Brampton and my town is entirely * after 10 years. Everywhere I go is * people. It doesn't matter what store or business or service I contact it's just * people now. When I went to college everyone was from there. This was a regular local college that Canadian kids aspire to go to. They made up 90% of the classmates, they never showed up to class, they refused to participate in team projects, nobody failed. They did so poorly but the school charges 3x. My final year they cancelled final exams because they decided too many international students would fail. They are from the same country but they have different religions and from different cities that hate each other so they would refuse to communicate with each other. Imagine you meet someone from another province and you hate them and aren't afraid to crashout in public over it. My next door neighbors there is so many people living in the house that they live there on a schedule one group in and one group out. You would think they would be going to work NO they literally hang out all day long like a bad 90s comedy movie. In the last 10 years all of the house in my town skyrocketed in price. The people around me all bought around 2010 - 2015 for $150k - $260k and sold for around $1m 2023 - 2026. Average house price in my town has stayed at 3x what it was 10 - 15 years ago. They don't rake their leaves, they don't clean up their trash, they don't clear their snow from their driveways. Both my parents are immigrants, they came here poor had to work, had to respect the country and its laws and culture because that's what allowed Canada to be successful so they could come here. All I hear about or see now is immigrants from the one country? When I was a kid I grew up with every nationality where did everybody go?

I'm no expert, but it's obvious that mass immigration is detrimental to any country. Years ago, Canada seemed like a dream country, but in the last few years, it looks like the homelessness, crime etc. has increased and the housing prices are insane. I have a Sikh friend who lived there for about 5 years but moved back to India due to the high cost of living and quality of life there going downhill. He has a much better, low stress life back home. I think there should be stricter measures to immigration. For example: Let doctors, nurses, engineers, lawyers in more easily, but those that are coming as students and going to work as cashiers, should be limited.

Im a Canadian and honestly I've NEVER had a problem finding a job, I don't even have my highschool... I think it has to do with *which* jobs they are applying for. I get that theres an "immigration" problem, the refusal to adapt and assimilate feels like a slap in the face especially when the same few will talk I'll of the same system they benefit from. HOWEVER I don't think it's good to lump all of these problems together and dump collective blame on immigrants. For 1, all this immigration and policies have happened under a liberal government and y'all voted then in, AGAIN. - clearly you're not THAT desperate for change. 2nd. Are the ones saying they can't find work willing to work in trades? General laborers making $25-$30+++ No experience required. Tradespeople are glad to teach people willing to work hard and learn.. What about warehouse work? Apply to your 5 closest warehouses, I guarantee youll get in 1.. ALSO the government IS willing to help Canadians get little certifications like forklift, smartserve, CPR.. Career colleges can help with training (e.g - computer) as well as soft skills. So yeah, I wonder if it's people being just as picky as they were when Canada wasn't in the economical shitter it is in rn? Maybe Im far luckier or fortunate than most? Maybe expectations are too high? Maybe some stubbornly refuse assistance they are entitled to? Im not sure, but I do sympathize/empathize with you guys, I hope you all can "get through". Congratulations Mr. Trudeau, you finally sound like our Prime Minister should. Now start making this country self sufficient so we don't have to rely on anyone. No more selling off our Crown corporations our land and other businesses to foreign countries. Keep Canada Canadian and give jobs to born Canadians first. It should be no surprise that our leadership chooses to blame all of our problems on someone else, because that's exactly what they do every day. Our problem is our government, specifically Republicans who won't accept the simple truth: you want to solve problems you have be disciplined and smart. You have to spend money to fix your problems instead of blaming some else and trying to get them to pay for it. You pay to solve your problems instead of giving huge tax cuts to people who don't need them. You stop lying to your people. You want to change the trade imbalance? Build products that other countries want at a price that makes sense. The EU has no laws that prevent American car manufacturers from selling their cars in Europe. American car companies make shitty cars. They make cars that are too big, that don't make sense for European where streets can be very small and gas is very expensive. The US manufacturers don't make a single small car in thos country that can compete with European cars. US agricultural products are laced with poisonous chemicals that are outlawed in the EU because they kill people. Our governmeent doesn't give a shit about that because to grow healthy food means you have to cut profits, almighty dollars, instead of grow things that the rest of the world will accept. He said he WOULD resign once a new leader was picked through a democratic process. Right now, he's basically just doing photo ops in Ukraine, UK and anywhere else on our dime because Parliament is prorogued and the party in power, Liberal, is having a leadership race. So, while he may resign within the week once that leadership race is done, he's still technically in charge.\n\nWhat makes that race and the PM's prorogation so bad is that we're in the middle of a crisis - several actually - caused in part directly by Trudeau and his Liberals (and the NDP supporting them). The latest would be Trump's tariffs starting today, March 4, 2025. Trudeau always disappears during a crisis, leaving us to fend for ourselves - (1) COVID, he was at the cottage using every excuse not to be accountable for anything or using unconstitutional powers to crush a protest he didn't know how to handle, (2) Chinese spies, he's ignoring our intelligence service, (3) federal worker strike, he's in NYC at some gala.... High real estate prices have fueled hidden corruption by all levels of government. Until you try to build something you just can't imagine the fees and cost of regulation compliance. Since values keep rising there are more hands out demanding more by all levels of government. Another (sort of) related issue that has been ignored until recently has been Trudeau's reparations to First Nations. He has manipulated the courts and civil service to acquiesce to whatever is demanded. Construction has slowed down here , no one can afford anything , I live in Guelph Ontario on the main floor of a house with three bedrooms , and paying $1800 , I'm one of the lucky ones because my good friend bought this house in 2012 and I moved in , I was paying $1300 up until he sold it three years ago in 2021 and the new owners jacked the price to $1600 for fair market value , we didn't think he could raise it that much but he was able to because of new ownership, as of now 2024 , almost $1800 still not bad for this area , the trick nowadays is to stay put anywhere you are

Because government wanted to secure financial status of these big companies without banks giving them loans by transferring wealth from people to companies.\n\nThere is another side for these moves: Globally, there is an ongoing plan to lower birthrate in well-developed countries such as Canada, France, Germany etc. Why is that? She picked up interesting jobs, worked very hard, just about made ends meet, has been great. \n\nShe was even offered a permanent job by a major Canadian co last year (she was working for them on a one year role at the time) that would’ve paved the way for her to apply for PR…but she turned it down without a second thought….. for all the reasons you would know about \n\n- Wages aren’t great (maybe 20% less than australia), \n\n- taxes are high (incl having to pay CPP…in australia the employer pays all pension contributions, on top of wages), \n\n- groceries prices out of kilter, \n\n- rents consume most of what’s left…. \n\n- AND, even if you could save a deposit for a house, or shoebox apartment….what’s the point, could never afford it. \n\nShe’s seen nearly all her Canadian friends resigned to their fate of being perennial renters, of being perpetually skint. It’s no life. She’s sad to see it - coming from a country of perpetual optimism and opportunity, to learn over time how such a (on many levels) similar country isn’t like that, that has somehow got it all so wrong. \n\nIf you are thinking of “australia” as your answer, it’d be a fair call\n\n- Avoid Sydney if you can (a less expensive Vancouver) but rest of the place is “workable”. \n\n- Average wage in Perth is $100k (C$90k) and average house (full size…not an apt or townhouse) price is about $700k (C$630k) …so do-able, if tight to start with, for youngsters (like you..!) \n\n- I’ve been to Vancouver’s East Hastings St, and so can confirm is nowhere close to that in Oz. Are sketchy parts of all cities, but it’s definitely not community wide\n\n- are small pockets of homelessness (esp but not only indigenous community) but the governments are mostly (sort of…) “on it” \n\n- sun, sea, sand… and the sharks rarely come close to shore!

As FRENCH, I think it is more an issue with policies set by both governments!!! You know you bring students IN and why don’t you build houses and encourage construction???? In France, many students (mainly Africa, and French departments like Guadeloupe, Tahiti or Martinique) come to study there (for free and we are proud of it!!!) BUT - unlike Canada - we do NOT have the same issues as Canada (our healthcare is NOT under pressure and our housing prices haven’t really increased that much as compared to Canada for example!!!) to me, the students are NOT to blame!!! It is the fault of the deciders (at different level) who have FAILED to set the right policies!!!! The schools are also to blame as some (not all) are so obsessed with making profits out of the higher international fees, which by way, subsidize Canadian students!!! So in Canada (not in France or Germany), the money that allows schools to function come from international students who BRING LOTS OF MONEY for the Canadian economy!!!! in France, it is different as the universities are FREE and are fully subsidized by the French government… but yes;) you have to speak French fluently to attend them!!! \nSo dear Canadians, do not blame foreign students thanks to whom your universities thrive and remain existant!!! Without them (namely the Indians too), the Canadian universities will struggle to find money and funding! Remember, the system in France is TOTALLY different!!!!

The Century Initiative at work under Trudeau's government, no matter the cost to average Canadians. Getting over a million newcomers a year, with our population climbing at over 3% a year. Population is climbing faster than GDP and it's been seven quarters of GDP per capita falling while rent and average house prices keep skyrocketing. \n\nThis place went from fine to terrible in the span of a decade, just because Trudeau and his buddies think we need 100m people in Canada by 2100, otherwise we'll be doomed. TFW here, east Asian, a couple of things:\nI am paid the provincial minimum wage, and work in the dairy industry, medium sized farm.\nI started working straight out of high school\n\nFrom what I can see and hear from across the province and largely in the western Canadian provinces, older generation farmers are at the retirement age, but the younger generation is generally very reluctant to take over. \nNot all industries, but definitely in livestock, people sometimes don't realize that, there is literally no breaks, ever! You work every day, holidays, Christmas, and if you do chose to take a few days off, your co-workers, i.e. other family members or workers, have to take up the extra workload. You barely have time for your family, you are often tired around your kids. Farmers have some of the highest suicide rates among all occupations, as well as a difficulty to find partners due to the nature of their jobs.\nThe work is hard, days long, especially during harvests, and if the ever more expensive tractors, equipment fail...\nThere used to be a lot of family owned farms, over the last few decades most have sold their generational farm and left the industry, most because of the cost to operate and because the next generation's unwillingness to take over.\nYong people my age have not been seen applying for my position in a few years now, despite ongoing hiring effort at significantly higher than minimum wage, and I have repeatedly stated that I, although love my job, am ready to step aside at any point so a Canadian PR or citizen can take my position, as required by worker rules. There were a few inquiries from neighboring areas, mostly made by parents, but their children in the end all refused to work, even part time, or seasonal.\n\nOn the other hand, there is the issue of prices: equipment costs have largely more than doubled since the pandemic, grain prices rose... and all that on top of the constant uncertainty of the weather every planting and harvesting season. Most farms don't ever make a profit after the yearly operating cost is deducted from earnings, and the little profit that on occasion appear, goes right back into paying debt or reinvesting in renewing long overdue old equipment.\n\nMy position, and all those similar to mine in agriculture, are in all fairness, very low skilled, with minimum training, and therefore is only worth minimum wage, in my opinion. I was actually offered a higher amount but in the end turned it down because on the job, I discovered the only thing I bring to the table is manual labor (I know that's not really the right way to go about wages, but I do believe that wages should be based on the irreplaceableness of one's skills, and as it stands, although no replacements were ever found, I am very much easily replaceable, skill wise). That, compared to a slightly better paid Starbucks position, with benefits (most farm workers and owners don't have benefits or pension, yes owners too), air conditioning, regular work hours. I mean, if it wasn't for my particular interest for agriculture I'd pick Starbucks any day too!\n\nI think a couple issues are at hand, \n1. Most of agriculture's profit ends up in the corporate processing and supermarkets, that needs to change, workers could benefit, as well as consumers, from distributing that profit between farmers and shoppers.\n2. Agriculture in today's context no longer fit the modern life, although I strongly think that A LOT of people can benefit from getting their hands dirty once in a while and sweating a bit, improve physical and mental health, have better discipline all that jazz. So foreign workers are the temporary solution, if well regulated so that Canadian PR and citizens are ALWAYS prioritized for hire and at a fair wage. This cannot happen unless farmers can turn a profit, stated in point 1.\n3. A new generation of farmers are needed to take over, and they need to be somehow convinced that it is worth the toil, because as it stands, it is not, financially, life style wise. Automation is one solution, although therein lies the huge, foreseeable risk of corporate takeover.\n4. On a specific note, TFW does mandate that workers are provided up to standard housing (not always followed), which puts local workers at a huge disadvantage if they are commuting to work and paying rent, although that rarely happens, and the majority of farms do offer housing to all.\n\n\nI am aware that me being treated up to regulation is not the norm among my TFW peers, which is quite sad and unacceptable. But in my opinion, even if given a leveled playing field, wages , conditions, housing, etc. Canadian citizens and PRs largely will be unable to meet the demand for these jobs, from unwillingness to work really hard physically, unwillingness to live the lifestyle, wanting a career with better prospects... these are harsh words, but I believe to be true, and they also come from a lot of older generation farmers talking about their children and grandchildren. \n\nThis is just in the agri industry, and from what I hear from farmers from all over western Canada : )

I think that it's not hating Indians, it's more about the there are WAY too many immigrants coming into Canada that require our social services and therefore our tax money. There are many unemployed immigrants, Indian or not, now, along with regular unemployed citizens. Also, family members coming over on tourist visas and working under the table, yet adding more to the unemployment issues. It is NOT about racism as much as the shear number of immigrants coming into Canada causing the housing shortage and higher prices as a result of it.

New engineer here. Been working for 2 years yet still living pay check to paycheck. Salary is too low compared to rent and grocery prices. I dont think i can buy a house within the next 10 years with my very low salary.

After reading a few of these comments, the main take aways are, there are a lot of immigrants, things cost more, healthcare is a mess and inflation.\nI am sorry that things are hard, the costs of everything are up everywhere in the world so good luck in gentrifying other nations and making your problems their problems.\nIt pains me to no ends that after things get tough in Canada many are ready to jump ship for better softer areas where they will trash the place with their incomes creating inequality there as well and then blaming the mess that they will create on the indigenous people that they will abandon for better pastures.\n\nAs a Canadian of native ancestry I never had it anywhere as good as many of the people here complaining about their middle class woes.\n\nMaybe if you fought for a change, like more housing to bring down the prices and fought corporate greedflation and gouging, realizing that much of this problem, the attack on the healthcare services, much of it being done by the conservative governments, then perhaps you would not be so annoyed with Trudeau.\n\nHe is not helping the housing problem by not building the 2 million new homes that he said he would but NIMBY people are making this difficult. Yet when the prices of housing was going up, many homeowners loved it, even though it meant that the poor, the actual poor and not you lot, were stacked like firewood into smaller and smaller rooms with no AC so it was hot in the summer and freezing in the winter and the slum lords are having a hey day. \nThe actual first nations people are homeless and being killed daily and are arrested for being poor daily but you lot think you have it bad. \n\nSorry, when non first nations people say that they will leave Canada because its not how they remember it when they were kids and its worse now so they will jump ship to gentrify other nations, I just shake my head and hold open the door as you leave the nation and wonder at your arrogance and egoism.

When will the people of Canada demand politicians to fix these ridiculous laws that are unfair and disastrous to the housing market? Renters think they are not affected by these laws but renters are greatly affected since these laws are a major reason why rental prices are so high!

Exact same thing happening in Australia. The process of wealth creation is being massively distorted by housing. House price speculation has become the go to path to riches - encouraged by the gov vs sustainable and society benefiting wealth creation via higher productivity or entrepreneurship (disincentivised via high tax rates). It's not a sustainable model so eventually something will break - think we're getting to that point (ps I'm leaving)

Liz seems to exemplify the following, which I learned in a first year macroeconomics course… The first rule of economics is understanding limited resources (supply and demand curves along with production advantages); wether you are a private entity, a non-governmental organization, or a formal government, this rule is unquestionable… Moving on… The first rule of politics, particularly with the progressive left (and I say this as a classical liberal) is to ignore the first rule of economics… No matter how sophisticated technology becomes, a centralized government will never be as efficient as the invisible hand.. Likewise, progressives these days (which apparently includes most liberals from what I see), never think about how open borders impacts housing demand, which impacts the market price for housing.. Yet, they somehow think the government can fix all of this (simultaneously ignoring that the government must become authoritarian to actually do so; all while demanding democracy - reminding me that democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding on what is for dinner)… Anyways, maybe my initial conclusion is premature, just sharing my thoughts!

Yall are coming to canada and we are trying to get out. You are not doing yourself a favour by coming here, this is not the same country it was years back. People here have become more american; rude, disrespectful, overly egotistical, our streets arent safe anymore, car thefts at an all time high and no one talks about the amount of random acts of violence coming from the homeless in my area, housing prices surging YoY by atleast 11%/year. Cost of living has increased 4-10x on certain things in the grocery stores. I love how everyone thinks their country is great till it isnt then flood somewhere else and bring all the issues and problems with them

Desperate need for condo houses? I lived in a new condo where they had a twin rental tower (over 1000 units) and they couldn't find more than four people to move into it in almost two years because of the price and the credit requirements. I think Canada needs more affordable housing, not more housing.

I think the real reason are:\n\n1. Refugees from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria and Asylum seekers from Africa.\n2. Foreign investment in housing was allowed until 2022 which played a major part in prices going up.\n3. 1+ Million International students allowed in 3 years.\n4. Average Canadian doesn't want to work a minimum wage job, especially now working with foreign people.\n\nBlaming one government, country or race wont help. That is just jealousy towards most common looking immigrant, which are South Asians.

If Canadians think new govt will solve the problem. They are dead wrong. This is the vicious cycle they can not get out. Their own structure can not support pensions and salaries. They need to bring in new immigrants otherwise the system cycle will collapse. As far as housing is concern. Does Canada have shortage of land ? Its due to policies that new housing is not coming up thus driving prices through the roof. No govt will gonna change that because corporate interests are involved and not house owners wanted their prices to go down. Which happened to be biggest voting block. Thus ordinary young Canadians are feeling the music and they see new students as the enemy. In fact it is the students who go through horrible exploitation ordinary Canadians cannot imagine. Canadians economy is an artificial economy based AND ITS BUBBLE WILL GO POP IF IT STOPS IMMIGRATION. Harsh reality and see if Mr Poilievre gonna change that ??. They are all the same bunch of liars like Trudeau. Don't forget Trudeau was charming prince ones. They all change with Realities.

Canada is such a large country its funny/crazy to think how the housing prices have went up so much. At least for starters build more affordable housing, or have designed safe areas to pitch a tent/shelter with water/electricity. I worried about the future whether I will have a roof over my head.

Lets tonnes of new people into the country and didn't think about where they're going to live.....There is no housing....Rent has skyrocketed! The price of homes has skyrocketed!
