American here. My take? This is not about protectionism this is about isolationism. \nWhy would Trump want this? This is about becoming the first American dictator of the Western Hemisphere. \nHyperbolic? Nope. Trump controls the Senate, House, Doge, Project 2025 is in the White House, all the branches of the Defense Department, the Attorney General and his offices, six of the nine seats on the Supreme Court, and assigned over 250 Federal judgeships to the Federal courts which are a lifetime appointment. The ONLY thing that is standing in the way of Trump are the Federel judges that actually understand the constitution and do not want to destroy this nation. The fly in the ointment? Courts can issue an order based on the constitution or our laws, but does not have any way to enforce them if Trump should just disregard their order. That is how close we are to a dictatorship.\nWake Up America.?\n P.S. Sorry Canada! Coalesce, find new trade partners, and leave the United States behind. We are no longer worthy of your friendship.

Thank you for separating the american people from the very small percentage of those in the White House administration behind these actions. Most americans are not in agreement with any of what's coming out of the president's office. He's lost sight of what American really stands for - and that his role, along, with those of his administration, are paid servants. Obligated to SERVE every citizen of their country - including representing and fulfilling the wishes of the people they serve. Whether they like all the people or agree with the needs of all the people. The people of our country don't want what's happening with Canada, Mexico or Ukraine. Or Russia for that matter. What a big difference between the speaches of DJT , Trump is trying to get Americans to believe that he is the savior of the USA. Justin Trueau is an intelligent and serious leader of Canada - compliment! \nHe stumbles along with a very limited vocabulary in his speeches, speeches in which any normal person can hear how little intelligence and substance there is behind these words. \nNow he is blackmailing the victim of the Russian war instead of the perpetrator, just as he is sacrificing everything the free world stands for for his confused fantasies. \nHe is now even demanding a third term in office, although in the first few days he has already brought more harm to the people than any president before him. \nThis is the direct path to a dictatorship in the Putin model.

Being an American I am behind Canada and feel these Tariffs are uncalled for and will do nothing to help our ever growing Inflation! Canada uses technology and forward thinking to protect their border. The US is decades behind border control and instead hang on building a border wall. A wall. Canadian here- I hate Trudeau just as much as most Canadians, and as it seems most Republican Americans do as well. But I fully stand behind him at this hour. He might have shit the bed for most Canadians during his time as PM, but when it mattered he has stood up for Canada. Review the facts and educate yourself on the current situation between CAN and the US. I will be the first to admit, Canada has not done enough in terms of its own security and military, but these failures should not be the decay in our friendship as nations. The US DOES NOT subsidize Canada, it DOES NOT give money to Canada. In simple terms- the larger country, with the largest economy in the world (USA) buys more from its Northern brother, which produces vast amounts of natural resources which the larger southern country requires. As for the booing seen at most recent sports events in Canada, that is directed at the President, not the average American. I myself would never boo a national anthem, an anthem that millions have sacrificed to protect and defend. But I understand the pain and anger that is coming from my country. We have always been allies, friends, and to most even family. I do hope that in the future our relationship can heal and move forward but the current actions being taken by the American admistration are horrendus and upsetting to most of the world outside of the US.
