We've gotta be realistic. Going as an undocumented immigrant to any foreign country is quite hard to get by. You've got to be hiding yourself all the time; you can't go around the city freely because the police might catch you and send you back to your country of origin.

I've been racially profiled in a shoppers as well. People literally brought out chairs out of other stores and sat pointing at me while three mall security officers searched my bags in the middle of the mall hallway. It was the most embarrassing day not my life. Apparently they have a history...

So illegal immigrant = immigrant?\n\nMy wife is originally from El Salvador (became citizen before I even met her) and I've vacationed there, the gangs are in the bigger cities (San Salvador, San Miguel), the rest of El Salvador is safer than most places in the U.S. The reason why Salvadorians and other Central Americans leave is due to pride, being in the U.S or Canada is an accomplishment, it's a lot of things, it's bragging rights, it's a way to send money back to the family but what it's not is for safety reasons. So them claiming it's because they're scared is complete nonsense.

Lol, the funniest part about most shoplifters is that they are usually white and the only reason they don't get caught is because no one is watching them or cares if they steal. One specific time some white guy walked so casually into the beverage aisle at Walmart, put 4 packages of 4 pk Redbull in his backpack, and walked away like nothing happened. Another time, this white guy went to the bulk candy section, loaded up his bag, security SAW HIM and stared at him leaving the store AND DID NOTHING! This white guy I used to work with ALWAYS STOLE HIS LUNCHES and jokingly admitted that he stole cause NO ONE WATCHES HIM OR CARES IF HE DOES! I SEE IT ALL THE TIME! Canada has done extremely well for Immigrants, and we spend a lot of money on making sure we get hard working decent citizens.. We've recently made it easier for people to immigrate here. We welcome it. But it does have to be done legally. And yes, I agree with everyone else here. 15 years in English countries, and doesn't speak it himself is disgusting. There is a lot of BS in this video. Stores like Best Buy will always have employees come up to you and ask if you need help ESPECIALLY if you linger. Then there are some facts. My brother worked at a Sprint Retail store and tells me that 100% of the people caught stealing were blacks. Native Americans have trouble with drinking I have rented to native Americans several times and it has never worked out once the money from their grants run out or once they fall off the wagon and start drinking again they end up getting evicted I have tried several times it has always been a disaster many of them have come to me saying they have a drinking problem they've stopped drinking they want to move to get away from their friends that they drink with and if I would give them an opportunity they would be very appreciative a month or two later they are beating up each other it's not my fault that Native Americans have a drinking problem it's also not my fault that need of Americans get a lot of government money and do not hold jobs in a disproportionate percentage of their population

I went and viewed 3 vacant apartment in a building. Available immediately. I was ready to take one. I noticed, as we went to each apartment that they were all inhabited by Polish people. The Superintendent and the Property Manager, also Polish. I am guessing the owner was too.\nI am a single, middle aged, clean and healthy, responsible white woman. NOT polish though. After submitting my application and deposit I waited. 5 days later called and left a message, 2 days after, called again. No answer. Then, called from a Private number and they answered right away. I asked them the status of my application. We are sorry ... all three apartments taken. \nI believe I was discriminated against because I am not Polish. Oh well ... I've moved on. Found a great apartment up the street for less rent, free parking and a very welcoming atmosphere.\nLife goes on.

Important thing for those watching to keep in mind is that every black person has different experiences across the country. You'll have areas where blacks are racially disadvantaged and discriminated against, and others where they are equal and simply seen as another normal human. For me, it has been the latter fortunately, I've only experienced racism 1 time in my 14 years in Ottawa (born and raised in Ethiopia).

My family owns real estate and we're of Asian descent. I can say that we racially profiled every single applicant for our rental units. The first thing we look at in choosing a tenant is race, and the second is income/cash reserves. We've had Natives and blacks come in to take a look, and immediately rejected without outright saying so. We only rent to East Asians, some South Asians, and most Whites.

This guy's issue was he crossed from Buffalo over to Ontario. If he would've gone through Roxham Rd from NY to Quebec then he wouldn't been behind 20k immigrants and have more time.

Yet Canada lets in numerous Indians from Information Technology or Call Centre backgrounds. Many of they barely speak English and they’ve replaced good paying white collar jobs that used to be held by Canadians. growing up in canada, i felt left out in the blk community b/c i am a 5th generation blk cdn on mom's side and 3rd on my dad's - when other black ppl not canadian born met me - i tell them i'm cdn, but i always used to get the question - where are you really from - they were looking for me to say the islands - when i told them my paternal grandma was born in 1901 in canada - that's when the questions stopped. i've been told that b/c i wasn't from the islands, i had no culture in college, but a mbr of the black student society put him in his place i heard he got into a lot of trouble. i was asked what do we eat as in food as canadians what kind of music do we listen to - at our blk canadian weddings, the only carribean song played was hot hot hot by arrow - we played straight up r and b and motown. i hv been rejected by other blk men b/c i'm not west indian enough...it was hurtful. even with 'friends' they made of my cdn heritage but i used to think, why are you making fun of me knowing that my family and ancestors were in canada first - they were 1st generation - i live in the usa now and i'm with an african american man - he has never treated me as if i were different and he loves going w/me to canada. my parents told me it was jealousy on those ppl's parts - one guy i used to be friends with in college, when i went to his house, his mom was from the islands, when she met me - she said, 'you cdn ppl are loud' and that did it for me - i didn't date her son but when he met my parents, they never said any of that crap to him. in the usa, the african americans don't treat differently at all - my ex mom in law thought we were american but decided to live in canada - b/c she was surprised that blacks do live in canada. her other daughter in law's family were from the islands - but she gravitated more to my family and felt comfortable around them more than her family and this ex sis in law would brag about the islands this and that and she would make comments about my looks being skinny and such but it was jealousy - i didn't care much for her b/c she was very insecure. i felt once again, i was a young girl in college again - being around island ppl....i would love to meet drake and ask him did he feel left out and isolated because he wasn't from the islands - he makes me very proud being a blk canadian - his dad is african american and his mom is jewish. i still hv dealt w/racism not much with wht ppl, but with my own ppl - which is quite sad and on top of it-colorism, that also played a part from my family - being called pygmy, chocolate dip, nappy hair - it hurt but these so called relatives, they aren't all that anymore, they had hard lives as children...when ppl see something in you that is special and they don't have, that's when their ugliness shows -

I've been hearing a lot about El Salvadore lately and this super high murder rate they got there. Of course anyone could be caught in a crossfire but are they really just picking random dudes up off the street to murder? I imagine the stats are MUCH lower when you control for things like gang involvement and other criminal behavior.

Getting a visa or any form of legal residence in Canada is a pain in the ass, I know because I've tried. I was gonna move up there full time from Los Angeles at one point and I spent 10 full months applying and waiting and still got denied. I wasn't even a refugee either, they make you prove what you have to contribute to the country as far as skills and education and it's very difficult to get accepted

The most racism I experienced in school was from teachers. Its the most profound kind of racism, because they are authority figures. The thing is when your fellow students display racism it doesn't have the same gravity as it does when your teacher does it because you know your teacher does know better but they truly believe it.In University, I actually had a teacher give a lesson that was so tinged with racism that it really broke me down, because what I've come to realize is that so many people think that being racist is saying actual racist words and don't understand that perpetuating stereotypes are the most prevalent forms of racism.  It is demoralizing because it feels like a losing battle when your teacher is perpetuating racially disparaging ideas to an entire class, and you think about how many people are going to be influenced by that idea and in turn perpetuate it. I realized that this teacher really insidiously believed what she was saying was true, but that it just wasn't politically correct to say it. The main principle of white privilege is that white people get to be individuals but people of colour get grouped together by the most base stereotype of their race.  I don't think Black-focused schools are the solution. I think more integrated schools with diverse populations of students and teachers are the solution.\n Then there are concrete issues of race, space and the law. For example when you come to realize that carding continues in Toronto, and that most residents do not care that young Black men are being harassed and treated like criminals by the police because it does not affect their community, it makes you wonder if people are only inclined to feel empathy for those who look like them.

I've spent plenty of time in Canada and it is not as flagrant as the states but racism is EVERYWHERE.... They are much nicer in Canada but its hurtful that people won't face the problem but rather turn the other cheek.

I'm white and had on an old leather jacket ove day while shopping which possibly made me look needy. That day while walking through different stores at the mall, I was followed by store personal and also by the security team while walking between stores. After not seeing what I had been looking for in all of the other stores was a new leather jacket but not seeing what I wanted in all of those places that I visited, I walked to Wilson house of Leather and finally found that new jacket. Best of all it was on sale. I've lost some weight since those days but I still have my leather coat which is a bit big for me now and starting to look like the coat that got me followed that day at the mall. Not everything is color when you get those looks and I would say it's more on the way you present yourself. \n\n Funny how it was during the times of the HURRICANES were the riots and thefts were done by people od color. Not all blacks riot and loot but those who do are a reflection of the thinking of certain races on this earth. Whites are just as guilty but no Asians, Whites Indians Arab or alien were photographed looting during trying times for many. In times of crisis can you depend on your neighborhood?

Speaking as a person who came to Canada and hopes to get a PR in the coming year: The view that Canada welcomes anyone can´t be further from the truth. If you are a skilled worker, you´ve gone to school and you are relatively young, getting a citizenship is very straightforward, but if you don´t, Canada won´t have you, and you know what? it´s OK: all countries have the right to determine their immigration policy and enforce it. Canada´s point system is very transparent, you can calculate your points by yourself online. Not here to judge that guy, but a little research might have saved him a lot of trouble.

It's Islamists that are a blood stain on this country where thousands upon thousands of men and women gave their lives for our freedoms and rights but now look at what these people have brought to this beautiful country. It's a lot more negative than positive and its only going to get worse. They've brought grief with them everywhere they migrate to. For me, as a black person ive been told I should wear braids or dreadlocks whenever my hair is chemically straight. When I wear my hair naturally-winter season-I get a ton of compliments. I've also been followed by cops thinking I was an illegal Mexican immigrant because I'm really light skinned. I even had a customer speak Spanish to me a few weeks ago when he thought I was Mexican.

I am sorry to make such a frivolous comment on such an important topic but the woman at 19:30 (Bev Ann?) is SO beautiful, like wow. \n\nBut on a more serious note, I think most of us have inherent biases to some degree (those who took these tests and indicated they don't have them - kudos to you). I openly admit I do too, and I think that's difficult to prevent if you've grown up without being exposed to a particular race or ethnicity, so I don't beat myself up about it. I think what we CAN do is make ourselves aware of our inherent biases and try to examine ourselves when we are forming impressions or making decisions about people and make a conscious effort to educate ourselves about and increase our interactions with people with whom we are unfamiliar. Ultimately, it's a fear of the unknown, so the more we know, the less we fear. I have my work cut out for me and I try to make small improvements every day.
