Hey i wanna do this in dallas! People think that black folks here are NOT oppressed. I was adopted by a black family in the 80s amd my parents have been discriminated against so many times its pathetic. My mom even got detained once because a white woman called the police saying she was kidnapping a white baby. They didnt even bother to ask if i knew her b4 they snatched me from her and called the police. THEY were the kidnappers- not my beautiful black mother! And you know what? They didnt even charge that woman for snatching me from my mama. They told her good job ??

I've encountered so many RACISTS white people in Canada, I've had a white Male called me the N word in the lcbo, white males walk to me and say what up N and I don't even know them, my job hired all white people before me and I've been their the longest. I always felt that after having some skills it's best to try for foreign like this express entry but people don't understand this they feel class 12 student is also a skilled person and those students don't even get graduated properly after choosing to go foreign just after Class 12

I make it a habit that if I see someone has dropped something accidentally or I see someone struggling with something I always try to help no matter who it is it's just my nature I also smile at anyone I pass but I'm sorry there has been a lot of times I've done one of these things for a Muslim woman or man and 9 times out of ten I never get a thank you or a smile or anything in return in fact I've had nasty looks some times just for being polite and kind there are the very rare exceptions but generally I get nastiness in return I'm not going to stop doing these things cause I enjoy making others happy even if I sometimes get a negative response but these people don't make it easy to like them when they so often look down on us

I worked for Wal-Mart for 16yrs and they are full of sh.t! They are races that 0 tolerance crap is so they don't get more lawsuits than they can handle. The employees get paid crap and if we did get a raise it's an insult of 25%. The tax in Canada is not very high. At least compared to many other Western Nations. \nI came from Germany to Canada and the tax in Canada is a joke me according to me. Income tax with social contributions is roughly 42% even on average salaries in Germany. Sales tax is 19%. Cost for energy and fuel is almost ten times higher than in Canada.\nSure, Canada is pretty expensive. Housing, food and medication are massively overpriced compared to many at EU countries. I need medication every month and in Canada I pay roughly 180 Dollar while in Germany it was zero. Even without the health insurance I would only pay 30€ a month for that.\n\nOverall Canada is good, but doesn't necessarily offer a better quality of life. I only live here because I like Canadian people and the mentality is great.

We have to stop pointing at races, colors, nationality, religion for reparation ... we need to focus on the real issue ... you have big corporation getting out of control, billionaire now becoming trillionaire. I came to Canada as a student. Applied through to get my permanent residency. Improved my English, also learnt French. Worked multiple jobs... learned the Canadian way of life. Amalgamated myself into this wonderful country and it's even more awesome people... most importantly always paid my taxes and never been on EI... now your telling me I should have just walked across the border and within 12 hours I would have received refugee status... phewww that's a blow out

I'm from El Salvador and you have no idea how many immigrants live in the US and Canada without being able to get their legal status fixed even with money in their pockets. Canada is one of the worst places to immigrate to. I’m Canadian. I know what it’s like to live here. Plus I’m indigenous. So I’ve face racism and prejudice. Many think my people gets free handouts. From my experience that’s far from the truth. I’ve left my community for a better education. I was completely alone without parents and my siblings, living with an aunt that used me for another pay check. I couldn’t go to college because I couldn’t afford it, even tho I got accepted into three colleges. Now I’m working a part-time job that forces me to stand on my feet all day. Not many job opportunities are out here unless you’ve gone to college or obtain training. plus the rate for rent is horrendous.

To me, it looks like Vice is really trying to pull the emotional card to get people to sympathize with this man because he really is in a rough situation. But, he is in a situation of his own making. It sounds like he had not done any prior research about Canada before deciding to claim refugess status. Yes, Trudeau was not giving the full truth when he made those public announcements to the media. Yes, people (educated or not) can be swayed by words of leaders they respect. But, to think you can just enter another country and claim refugee status without understanding what that actually entails is very naive. Canada has very transparent laws that are easily accessable in a multitude of different languages. The provinces also have legal assistance for those who can not afford lawyers. So, the fact that this man was able to spent $15,000 when he is being portrayed as a low income earner makes me question his income, or if he was even aware that he could apply for legal assistance. And since he has a lawyer who has been working his case, I would like to assume that the lawyer would have said something about assistance.\n\nI really want to be sympathetic for this man and his family, because security uncertainty makes life extra hard. But, as I have had to live in more than one country due to the Canadian immigration system refusing my husband due to a very old DUI (which has set our life on a completely different plan than anticipated), I have a very hard time being sympathetic when I feel as though they did not reach out to educated themselves on the laws of another country. I am a Canadian who currently can't live in Canada with my husband of 3 years and I still don't hate my country. I respect the hell out of it (this is not to get into our historic treatment of BIPOC, which deserves it's own seperate time and is a bloody stain on our land's history.)

Canada is full of racism and that’s a fact. There is not much of the difference with the States either. Only difference is that Canada’s racism comes in the form institutional and systemic racism. The states have a way bigger platform than Canada so their situations regarding racism will be covered more than Canada’s and also Canada hides behind the “it’s such a diverse country” statement to diverge from the issue of racism. Ask yourself this- Which country do you see a wider diverse representation of, concerning the people in power? In Toronto we just had our first black police chief(which was a big thing here) a few years back while in the States they’ve been having people of colour and many minorities in power. Representation of different ethnic backgrounds is an issue here but nevertheless the states still have a long way to go with racism. I love Canada so much but there is absolutely racism that this country will not bother to even acknowledge

There is lot of emotion in this piece, but not very much context or fact. Indigenous people suffer from addictions and mental illness more than the rest of Canada due -inter generational trauma, and resulting loss of dignity. While racism exists today, even if we were to eradicate entirely, indigenous people would still need help due to the damage done in the past. The solution is not fomenting more bitterness and resentment. This is not an easy fix and indigenous people need to be part of it. We need to find a solution where they can rediscover their identity, foster healthy norms within their own nation, while also being part of this nation. Look up Durkheim. Defunding the police is an utterly idiotic idea. Police need more training, and hence more funding, to help them do a better job.
