Especially Africans Americans who do not know that Canada has African-Canadians too and other people of color also. Similarly, Canada and America are very related in just about everything. I know me being a American, if I was not a American. I would want to be a Canadian. Having been station at Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota and Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota. I am familiar with the weather in Canada. The mistake I made was not to travel to Winnipeg, having spent over 6 years in North Dakota, I regret that so much especially during the summer time. My experience about Canada after living here for a few years now: \n1): Healthcare: There are two sides of it. If you need a specialist, forget about it, just live with your disease or problems and hope it will cure itself and won’t get worse. If you are in a life threatening condition and need a surgery, you’ll get it and the medical bill won’t scare you. I needed a dermatologist, never got one, eventually had to fly to the US for a simple treatment. \n2): Taxes: You’ll pay extra to take care of the large aging population of Canada and to maintain the infrastructure in the extreme cold weather. But, you can make a good use of your RRSP and TFSA accounts, and you can also buy American stocks without paying taxes. \n3): Travel and transportation: Forget about public transportation methods like buses and trains. You’re on your own. But a vehicle ownership isn’t very hard here. \n4): Social networking: Good luck with that. Good luck finding friends here or being a part of a friends group. Canadians are polite but not outgoing and extrovert. Most people make a few friends in Schools and College. You’re not going to see people of different races and origin hanging out with each other. \n5): Real estate: Population is growing, population is aging, it’s all happening but what’s not many houses are getting built. Buying your own house isn’t easy. If you’ve bought one, good luck with the energy prices. \n5): Landscape: It’s gorgeous out here, if you want to be happy in Canada, go out for sightseeing.\n6): Jobs: Totally depends in which jobs you can fit in and what previous experience you have. I actually don't object , particularly, to my high taxes in Canada. I do object to the fact that it took me , 15 extra working years to achieve a reasonable income due to the cost of an education being beyond my reach. Now that I have a reasonable income, I find those high taxes spent poorly. Dental care and extended medical or medications? Not covered.\n\nSo where do these high taxes go? Comparing my tax rate to the functional half of Europe's countries, it's about the same, more or less. \n\nBut they have better health care, affordable education and housing.\n\nAnd as others have pointed out, despite living in the biggest city, it's still relatively boring to many of the Major cities I've stayed in globally.\n\nI recommend Canada to immigrants who would enjoy a Rural or Suburban lifestyle that still has access to amenities and infrastructure. There are more opportunities in some ways, and the costs of living are much more affordable. But if you are interested in an urban life with what that has come to mean globally, the best Canadian cities can offer you is 'diverse restaurant options'.

As a Canadian- born senior I am disappointed to hear these negative perspectives. I have seen many positive changes in the landscape from the time when diversity did not exist. In Toronto the social landscape is very much enriched by the immigrants who have come in waves over the last 70 years. I recognize the hardship of re-qualifying for professions but this must have been taken into account when considering moving to Canada. Interesting subject to reflect upon.

Ive lived in Canada for 51 years .there has always been a job for me in all the 4 western provinces when i have asked for work.You must be flexible and possibly travel long distances to work between cities.people are friendly and willing to help .Some friends i know go home every few years and visit their Dr.then. many others have only been to the eye Dr.and dentist .A good healthy life in the North and all the freedom one needs .Eat fish and wild meat and all the berries and mushrooms you can pick.Doctors have been available when needed.Things in Northern Canada are expensive! Everything! Plan everything you do as weather can be a problem unless you are prepared.Ive often thot of moving back home but after a visit each time i have felt that i did not have the freedom of space and the wiggle room to do as you please on your own property.Cheers!

Manitoba would be ranked top 3.... its cold? Probably no different than any other province. Rarely snows and is probably the most fun province to be in the winter. So many festivals and outdoor events. It has a NHL team to enjoy. Spring and fall is #1 in manitoba of all in Canada. Most beautiful summers and has the nicest beaches and lakes in Canada. Not 1 province can compete with summer life. So how would you rank it #10??.... they make more Hollywood films in Winnipeg than Toronto/Vancouver. Jobs? Education? Rivals any city in Canada. Canada is a land with great resources, great opportunity and potential, but for a place with so much supposedly smart people they do alot of dumb things. Been here 7 years now and I have seen so many issues that have obvious solutions but because of some weird culture or heritage or whatever they just keep doing the same thing until it hurts them. The real estate market is an absolute MESS and everybody knows. Money laundering, realtors colluding to set prices, blind auctions etc you name it. But they are just gonna keep doing the same thing until the country is in a major recession. Then everybody is going to be crying for bailouts. The health system is a MESS. Trying to find a doctor is like finding a needle in a haystack. They have them driving taxis instead, claiming that their qualifications arent as good. Yet they dont have enough doctors or nurses to support anything. Coworkers whose spouses work in those industries let me know they have to be working ridiculous shifts because there are not enough people. The taxes are ridiculous. I work in I.T. and taxes are like roughly half my salary. Many coworkers have told me all the illegal stuff they do to get around the taxes. Which I don't do because I wasn't raised like that. But people get taxed so much everyone is doing some thing to try to bypass it. And if you dont know the tricks or dont want to do them, you just get screwed. People don't talk about real issues here. There is alot of fake positivity and optimism because they dont want people to get sad and suicidal from the really long and harsh winter. I used to wonder why there were so many train delays until some one explained to me that many people commit suicides in winter by stepping in front of the trains. The only thing propping up this country is the constant influx of immigrant slave labour through the college system, (Like a ponzi scheme). But the immigrants are going to stop coming here if they cant even afford to live at all. Even the regular citizens cant afford it. So what will the country do after that, since there is an elderly population and not enough people to support the industries? Right now most of the immigrants come here and save up there money to go somewhere else or back home after they realize what a shitshow it is. I even have coworkers born and raised in Canada who are telling me they want to leave. Canada needs to stop patting itself on the back for doing stupid apologies and stuff like that, and actually do economically sound things to stop digging themselves into this hole. Great potential for this country but I don't know if it will ever be realized.

To me, the problem is threefold. a) Toronto and Ontario in general - and perhaps the whole of Canada - are accepting way more immigrants than they have quality jobs for. If you need taxi drivers and plumbers, maybe this experience should be valued way higher than education as part of the existing immigration programs (which is not the case). At least then potential immigrants know this before they come and get stuck in low-paying or relatively OK-paying but repetitive and demoralizing jobs with debts and mortgages that become a trap preventing them from leaving. It's also partially on immigrants themselves who come to Toronto to only find out there's 100 people competing for one spot and that you need to be exceptional - or connected through your ethnic network - to work regular white-collar jobs. b) The official bipartisan policy of non-integration. The naive expectation that having people live in ethnic enclaves will somehow make the overall culture richer is not what happens: instead, people tend to stick to their own communities and the common culture thus gets eroded and limited to economic and financial matters. This makes some cities feel like one large business with everyone networking 24/7 instead of socializing normally. And arguably, having the right culture / social life is what motivates already successful people move in the first place. So when they come and they find out there's nothing but money talk and hustling, they leave (if they're smart). Quebec is doing better in that regard, but then Quebec is not really Canada and it's been pressured to cave in to the same money-centred, uncultured and disconnected society by the feds for decades now. The States is smarter in that it actually makes sure to integrate its immigrants (and let's be honest, many immigrants like being part of a new culture if it fits them) c) Treating real estate as an investment and not as a basic necessity (as Japan or some Nordic countries do, for example). That coupled with a lot of Asian money being laundered in Canada through immigration channels and private equity firms buying whole apartment blocks for rental purposes has led to the highest housing price increase in all of the developed world in the past 20 years or so. The median price of a condo in Toronto is higher than in New York despite the massive gap in salaries and the fact that New York is one of the most expensive cities in the world to begin with. Some draconian measures are needed here to prevent foreign - or even out-of-province ownership -, second property ownership and corporate ownership for renting purposes.

Many leave their own country, and come to Canada BECAUSE of their dislikes; extremism, culture, religion, laws, identity and in some cases backwards thinking; attempt to turn what we in society would consider as sexist, and discriminatory in some examples….\n\n…however when those same individuals finally achieve citizenship, or in some cases this starts (attempt to change Canadian law(s)) before obtaining citizenship, making moves to force the above, everything they despised, hated or disliked about their own country, into this new country ? Its like, the expectation is that we assimilate to them, not that they assimilate to their new chosen country??\n\nIt appears in some cases, going as far as attempting to rationalize why the the very thing they left their own country for, should now be a part of or have a place in Canadian society….where in any place in the World does this happen? Would it happen? Can you imagine, if I were a guest in someone else’s home, being invited over for dinner, but they had rules…like taking off your shoes when entering their home…or demanded they change their menu that they worked hard making for me to eat..or that I do not put my feet up in the coffee table or furniture…but I said, screw that, I don’t agree with their rules..I’m just going to do what I want! What would be the outcome do you think if I were to disrespect their rules?\n\nWhen Canadians have the audacity to say NO, we’re not interested in adopting …the rules/laws of the country they just abandoned…we’re now somehow insulted, or angered the guest? …the same Canada that has welcomed, provided safety, roof over their heads, food on the table, an education for their children, and provided access to our medical (albeit far from perfect) infrastructure.\n\nTo stomp their feet, bang their fist on the table when discovered that it’s expected to take four years of your life to become a doctor (which btw if you’re smart enough to become a doctor, you should be smart enough to of researched the expectations, PRIOR to coming to Canada) in the Country that YOU have chosen to spend the rest of their lives in, to have to work in a job to help support you and your families transitions,…imho, is NOT an unreasonable ask….that 4-5 years of their next 40-50+ ? Well, if that is considered a hardship, then maybe they need to rethink their intent. Maybe, the grass WAS greener in their former Country?!! \n\nI think to expect or demand to just step into or handed on a silver platter all the goodies without having to except to take the not so good…is imho ignorant, arrogant and selfish.\n\nEven with our flaws, Canada is one of the best places to live on the planet. If you have to pay for your dentist, some surgeries and health expenses just take a plane and flight to Mexico, Colombia where dentists and doctors are even better than here in Canada and you have to pay only 10% of what you are paying in Canada and you’ll have holidays for free in a warmer country. Life is getting unpredictable in Europe, China or USA so from my point of view Canada is a safer place to live in the next 10 or 20 years even your way of life or income won’t be so high. Energy, food, transport, health, virus problems will be traumatic in many European countries, China or USA and also some Latin American countries where people will be impoverished because of left wing parties in power like it’s happening in all Latin America.

After 10 years living in this wonderful country…. (Great Montreal subs) There are few things, I will never be able to assimilate.\n\n1. Excessive government interaction or presence in your life. Too much!!! People is extremely obedient at the point that some love the gov takes decisions over them and their kids…. \n\n2. Political correctness and not many autentique people. \n\n3. Not social life or limited social life. \n\n4. Lack of fun and the few cool things you can do are too expensive. \n\n5. Winter for 3 or 4 months it is ok…. But 6? Both my parents immigrated from Europe so I can relate to many of the comments.\nSo, what I see is that Canada is a country of mostly heavy industry which often requires people to live in rural, remote, isolated communities. Canada is a big country so transportation is a significant part of it's economic foundation. Most people do not come here wanting to live up north or drive a commercial truck. They want to live in a big city and have a professional job.\nClearly the government has done a poor job of conveying what is needed (Trudeau is pretty clueless to be honest).\nIf you want to be in demand go rural and go north.

As an Australian, this video was interesting and informative in showing what a beautiful country Canada is, and the built environment is also so impressive. Also, I am naturally unbiased by any rivalry between provinces, particularly concerning Quebec. Oh, and I can usually discern a Canadian accent, which to my ear sounds more refined than many accents from the United States.

As an older Canadian who was educated in Canada with a B.Ed. - then worked away from Canada for thirty of my forty years. There is no way to say that any country is the best one to live in; every country has strengths and weaknesses- that especially relate to your specific needs and wants. Coming back to the country of my citizenship was also extremely hard for me after working away for so many years. The way to do well anywhere in Canada, is to build up credibility/seniority at one job and stick with it. Whether you are university or self-educated- which is considered just as valuable in today's job market- you are going to face an uphill battle unless you are fairly established. Canada has a high level of unemployment and some sectors, have an overabundance of trained workers. When my Middle East friends tell me they would like to live and work in Canada, I give them the advice I would give anyone. First, think about your family or friends that you want to have around you in your daily life- that is number one. Nothing is more depressing than being alone. Weather is a big factor, but it can be tolerated if you are with your core family or friends. One hundred years ago when my ancestors fled war and revolution, they had no choice but to do their best to make a life in a very difficult climate (literally)- culturally and weather-wise. There are a number of refugees today that are in similar circumstances. They do their best to get past the difficulties for the sake of their children's futures. If you are not literally refugees, think hard about you choice to leave your core culture and people.

If Canada must survive then you have to pump a hell of money to Canada so you and Canada survive. Bring all your money and come to canada so you can turn on your oven in winter. I have had things stolen from me in rental apartment and room in a house by landlord. Many people will steal your things in here so you must have security systems all times.

So people want to get educated but work abroad, many college graduates are doing like in Canada working as taxi, or other jobs because companies pay visa h1 workers less because they have to pay own taxes etc not good for US residents citizens

Great video, balanced opinions! One more reason immigrants leave after many years in Canada is not enough savings / years of work for retirement. In their home countries their pensions and savings last much longer. That being said, Canada is a great country to live in.

So many people complain that it’s very tough to find a job In Canada. So, is it true or they don’t know the way to find a job? \n\n2. According to Canadian government website for NOC 2112, total listed professional is 11900 whereas 11100 were employed which mean 7% unemployment rate for this profession. Does this amount means a huge number of unemployment according to Canada’s economy ?

I'm Canadian and think the biggest issue is a lack of infrastructure. Even in a lot of major cities, things you'd expect to see like subway stations, corner markets, or arcades are uncommon. It's hard to find a job when there aren't many places to work, and it's hard to afford things when it's difficult or expensive to ship those things from place to place. Immigration could boost our population so we can better tackle these issues, but our system forces immigrants to start from scratch. That doesn't provide immigrants with much reason to choose Canada instead of the Netherlands, the USA, Singapore, or some other country.

thanks for the honest observations. I appreciate it. I have noticed many comments that employment may not be the best in Canada. However, employment is not the only way to make money. Anyone can be self-employed/small-business owner, big business owner or an investor, according to Robert Kiyosaki. I guess, Canada may not be the best country for employment opportunity, but can be the best for retirement after you have gained enough passive income from investments in different businesses.

As a i have been living here for more than two years and i have always been struggling with employment issues, healthcare system, housing prices and many others , i cant really be honest to my parents, back home how hard living condition is here. even though if you spent many years of educations and gained experiences or got your master, its not gonna help you ever in canada. personally its too hard to start everything from the scratch its just waste of time. back to Asia.

And will never regret our decision. Europe is way better in many aspects. Money is not everything and we already experienced that. Hopefully we'll never have to come back!!!

I simply watched the first 3 minutes of your video and knew that right off the mark YOU ARE PERFECTLY RIGHT. Ontario alone has so many cab drivers that are foreign trained doctors that are badly needed as it has the worst healthcare system in Canada outside of the northern territories. Immigrants coming to Canada are also the best job creators in Canada and as such are much needed since the Canadian government has repeatedly failed to support its own industries and people since the 1950's. I am Canadian, born and raised. I agree with this video. Even I left Canada because it was hard for me to find a career-type job and it's super expensive to live in Canada. Also, there are many smaller countries that don't require people to commute by car.

In some cases, I was victim of racism here in Canada and this is what I just did: I speak in French instead to the aggressor; I have done that many times and usually it works; if it is like this indirect form of racism (much more frequent) where a “local” or even sometimes some Immigrants try to look down in me, I just called a friend of mine (who is usually free) and start to chat loudly in french with him!! And believe it or not, my French accent is 99% close to perfection although I do not look like a white French guy… but see… this is exactly why it is very amusing as you can barely imagine how most people act by seeing me talking in French!! Just say something like “… je reste pour une année en plus ici au Canada (make sure you say Canada to attract their attention) Et après je bouge sur Paris….”

Nice video. I came to this country over 20 years ago, and chose to have partners from other countries which is sometimes a challenge, but nevertheless worth it. Canada's climate looks pretty cold and unpleasant now, but with climate change, anywhere around the great lakes it might be one of the last good places to live towards the end of the century. Maybe is just me, but I never really cared about paying taxes. I just see it as a social good. Sometimes I would like to move back to Europe because I can fly for cheap and see many different countries, but then I realize I will never be accepted anywhere there as I am here.
