Trump likes to bully people into submission. If these targeted nations unite and come up with ways to circumvent the tariffs, they will have called his bluff.

Tariffs are used as negotiation, Mexico will stop these caravans, or they will be tariffed. America has the upper hand when it comes to trade. \nMexico is a Third World country .

He raises tariffs and she can do the same. And it goes on and on. How much will tRump raise tariffs on China? I can't afford much of anything and I am the same age as tRump (78 years old). I am struggling with paying bills. I think prices will never come down and I am not on welfare. I also do not have Medicare because I cannot afford the monthly fees so I am lucky I am a Vietnam Ers woman Navy Vet who is able to use the VA medical facilities. I am so tired of struggling that I rather be dead now.

Lame duck term, no need for re-election allows Pres-Elect to gamble with tariffs and other extreme ideas and essentially leave a mess for next administration no matter what party presides

“Trump says Mexico has been taking advantage of a very unbalanced trade agreement, in his first term. Biden did a review on Trump’s tariff and decided not to reverse that.” Booyah! As always, look at the substance of his policies. You all should know even my Mexican friends know that their corrupt govt bureaucrats keep all the USforeign aid money to enrich themselves. It doesn't trickle down to its people.

Tariffs exclusions (especially w/Trump) open the system up to certain companies of means bribing officials to get the exclusions. Wow, Russia 2.0!

When prices go up on imported goods, U.S. companies will increase the price of domestically made goods to take advantage of the tariff. Also, demand for drugs in the U.S. comes from within, not Mexico.

So we import Lumber, oil, cars, and more from Canada. So gas is going up Lumber is going up, and cars are going up. The last Trump admin Trump hit Canada with a 25% Tariff on steel, Canada then slapped in response a 25% and dollar for dollar Tariff on US products. I'll say it again Trump does NOT know what a Tariff is or works. So if your in a hurricane state and are re-building your getting hit with a 25% plus increase.

Doesn't she know that once Trump puts a tariff down and she puts one down in response and the cartels start losing money she's gonna get fucked waaaay before Trump. Thus no tariff in response from Mexico because she doesn't wanna get wacked

Definition of Maquiladora: A maquiladora is a manufacturing operation or factory in Mexico, typically located near the U.S.-Mexico border, that assembles goods for export, primarily to the United States. These facilities take advantage of lower labor costs in Mexico and benefit from duty-free or reduced tariffs under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), now succeeded by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Companies often send raw materials or components to these factories, where they are assembled into finished products, which are then exported back to the U.S. or elsewhere.\n\nThe maquiladora program was established to boost employment, attract foreign investment, and promote economic development in Mexico, especially in border regions. Imagine thinking that tariffs will magically solve problems with cartels and drugs. Like oh wow, Trump knew the solution the whole time and nobody could figure it out for decades... but a reality TV B-lister knows the answer! It's like using Gatorade to water crops. We are on our way!

Get ready for some really hard times folks because Trump’s policies and tariffs will take the US into “The Great Depression II”.

We are ripping off one another!! USA companies picked up their hats and coats then went overseas in the 70s to make more money!! Tariffs will steadily hurt the consumers and pad the pockets of those mega companies. Greed begets greedier and greediest. Heck, if I had a company back in the 70s, I probably would have done the same thing. Never be surprised. It is all simple.

Trump doesn't realize when you put tariffs on other countries they raise their prices which in turn affects the consumer price which is the citizens of this country because we have to pay more for the products we buy????

Bravo to the Mexico's President. Canada's Prime Minister made similar statements. Plus he said Canada is concerned about the large number of illegal guns entering from the USA. He also said they would impose tariffs on the goods coming into Canada from the USA. Note Canada exports the following to the USA so imagine how a 25% tariff would increase the price of: Canada's main exports to the United States are:\n- Mineral fuels, oils, and distillation products: In 2023, this was the top export, valued at $128.51 billion\n-Vehicles other than railway, tramway: In 2023, this was valued at $58.21 billion\n-Machinery, nuclear reactors, and boilers: In 2023, this was valued at $33.75 billion \n- Other exports from Canada to the United States include: Baked goods, Canola oil, Beef and pork, Chocolate, and Frozen fries and other prepared potatoes

A statesmanlike statement from Mexico's newly elected female President to poorly informed and ill-advised President elect Trump's proposed senseless tariffs.

No point talking about Trump’s tariff threat now! Damage is done! Stupid American people have voted, now deal with it!

Ok for those who don’t understand how tariffs work thats tax for American companies to import goods here ok and the other countries sale their products at the whatever cost they set, once Americans pay the tax tariffs then Americans companies increase their cost to recover ad make up their loss costing Americans higher prices. And for the idiots that think manufacturing companies would come back, they will not bc other countries good are going to still be cheaper and would not like to pay additional taxes or have their business growth collapse

MAGA: FAFO: \n1. Massive layoffs in automotive, housing and construction, and white goods happening right now due to coming tariffs.\n2. No Christmas bonuses because your company is buying up as much supplies before tariffs hit.\n3. Are you going to take all the crop picking jobs about to be available?\n4. How about the soon to be plentiful garbage collection, sewer and septic tank cleaning, dishwashing/waiter/waitress/cook, greenskeepers, house cleaning, nanny care, etc jobs soon to be available?

This is exactly why we elected Trump! Deporting millions will save us billions annually. Threats of tariffs will lead to more jobs in the US. Thank you Donald Trump! Let's get the cartels next. Threats from Mexico ??

Trump’s Tariffs are meaningless symbolism for the base, while the American consumer will be left holding the bag.

Trump promised Tariffs, and that is what his voters expect. Tariffs on all imports will make Trump supporters very happy. Also, Trump supporters want Obama Care, otherwise known as the “Affordable Health Care Act,” to be ended and Trump really wants his supporters to be happy.

Trump acts like we make SOOOOO much here in the US that we can function alone. FALSE! We make damn near NOTHING here. We rely too heavily on other countries in every aspect of our lives; food, clothing/footwear, shelter/building construction material, automotive even down to hygiene products . These countries think he is a fool! Hike up tariffs for them and they will just take it out on us. Tariff is NOT going to control immigration. NO 1 president has ever 100% combated immigration. YES we need a tough stance on immigration & it will result in some casualties, let's be honest. However the way he is talking, he will screw his own people. I can't believe nobody on this team explains this to him.

Its crazy how even these pundits don’t understand how tariffs work. You guy are suppose to be educated

A polite way of telling Trump that the US does not have the monopoly of trade tariffs.
|

Its simple. Help Trump reinstate remain in Mexico, stop licking the balls of rhe cartel, and stop.allowing thousands to enter our country illegally, and the tariffs go away.

tRump supporters voted to put stupid back in the White House. Time to apply import tariffs across the board. I can’t wait for those cost (higher prices) to be pass to them. I can’t wait!! ??

Tariffs have not been fully negotiated. But it’s a brilliant strategy, Americans spend billions a year towards migrants and millions of Americans die of drugs, then there is the crime from migrant gangs. America is paying in their blood, treasure and also is getting polluted from human trafficking. So… if tariffs will put pressure to solve these complex issues. It is a start.

She’s president of Mexico Trump can’t intimidate her because she’s a woman, she’s strong woman and she will respond to him in professional ways. Trump is bully and he doesn’t know how tariffs will affect America economy. He’s not good for economy and he lied about knowing everything about tariffs while he is not good.

Why doesn't CNN talk about how tariffs raise prices for Americans??? Seriously, a lot of the problems we are facing now, is because media like CNN, isn't telling what exactly this stuff does, they normalize and that's why Americans are unaware of what tariffs really do. Also, Mexico has said they'll deport Americans that are there as well.

As a Canadian I'm quite pleased with Trump tariffs this will help accelerate the decoupling of Canada from Trump land.

Sheinbaum also noted that Mexico has taken significant steps to stem the flow of migrants at the border, saying, “Caravans of migrants no longer reach the border.”
\n
\nTrump said on Monday that he will enact tariffs of 25 percent on all Canadian and Mexican goods, and add another 10 percent tariff to all Chinese goods — many of which are already under tariffs imposed by Trump during his first term.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum threatened to retaliate with her own tariffs against the United States, after President-elect Trump suggested he would impose a 25 percent tax on imported goods from Mexico if her country did not stop the flow of drugs across the border.
\n
\nIn remarks on Tuesday, Sheinbaum said that drugs were a U.S. problem, not a Mexican problem, and suggested they could harm U.S. automakers with plants on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.

IT will be much more now with Trumps tariffs

yeah, don't see Maduro even caring about Trump making threats of tariffs if he doesn't accept Venezuelans back. As the rest of the continent know (like my own country, Chile), it's pretty clear he couldn't care less about people leaving Venezuela, less so about being diplomatic or having sanctions (they already have so many piled on). Airplanes with deported migrants wouldn't be able to land in Caracas

Americans were angry about inflation. But everything Trump and his cronies plan is inflationary: \n- reducing the workforce through deportation\n- protectionism\n- tariffs on everything\n- tax cuts\n\nThis will be interesting to watch.

Deporting undocumented immigrants could have significant economic consequences. Removing this labor force, which makes up the majority of farmworkers, would likely force farmers to hire American citizens at minimum wage or higher. This would drive up operating costs substantially and could lead to further increases in food prices. Additionally, the claim that undocumented immigrants are to blame for the country's economic woes is inaccurate. Many of the recent Latin American immigrants are fleeing economic collapse in countries like Venezuela, which has been exacerbated by U.S. tariffs and sanctions. As the world's reserve currency, the U.S. dollar gives the government significant power to influence the economies of other nations. Because of this BRICS was created. Several countries are trying to get a way from the dollar.

Coupled with the apparent tariffs that are in the pipeline it will be interesting to see what that might do to the prices of fresh fruit and vegetables. As the country would seemingly begin to lose the workforce that allows them to be artificially lower than might otherwise be the case as well as a shortage of those willing to undertake those jobs.

She's going to regret voting for Trump before it's over with. When those tariffs go into affect and she like the rest of us have to pay more for every day goods.

America elected this - so now face the consequences! He's warned for many years - now the time has come. The tax payer will be loaded with the burden of the cost - and they thought that things are bad now - hell - wait till the tariffs kick in!!

What affects one of us, effects all of us. Wait until the Trump supporters find out their benefits start being cut down or cut off, prices go up for everyday supplies and groceries bcz of the tariffs and deportation of migrant workers, generational farmers go bankrupt and companies start laying off or relocate overseas. Tick tock,Trump supporters voted for this but unfortunately we'll all be affected by their stupidity.
