housing prices in my country are the same as in Canada and we get paid significantly less. The average salary in my country is 565 Canadian dollars. I’m definitely willing to take my chances to immigrate to Canada. Apart from low wages, safety is a huge issue and the public health care is a joke and we pay taxes for it!!

As a Canadian I found this very informative and interesting. I have always been interested in hearing what people from all around the world have to say about other places. I value different perspectives greatly. Now I shall want to ask what my friends have to say about Canada.

I moved to Canada about 17 years ago and yes it is an absolute pain to jump through all the hoops they want you to go through. I was only here a few days and I came from Ireland as a brick and stone mason they recruited me from Ireland and wanted me to come out. Within three days on the job I learned I would be getting less wages than the other bricklayers. I packed up my tools and walked off the job I notified the employer and the union by emails and told him I’d be flying back home in a few days. Well the union and the employers came running straight away to get me to stay. Trying to explain that after a couple of months I’d be on the same money as the rest of the guys. This is where I explain to them that taking home C$1100 was already a pay cut a massive pay cut as are used to take home 2500 to 2200 Euros living in Ireland. I moved to Canada for a change of lifestyle but that doesn’t mean I was going to be taken advantage of. And that’s when they said they would pay me the same as everybody else. Sometimes you just have to stand up for yourself and be willing to follow through. They even reimbursed me for the airline ticket I bought to go back. Some skill sets they really need in this country in addition Canadians population growth is absolutely dependent upon immigration as the family sizes and birth rates are critically to lol to sustained a country. As I’ve said I’ve been living here 17 years now and I am a Canadian citizen I guess that makes me an Irish Canadian now.

I'm Canadian and think the biggest issue is a lack of infrastructure. Even in a lot of major cities, things you'd expect to see like subway stations, corner markets, or arcades are uncommon. It's hard to find a job when there aren't many places to work, and it's hard to afford things when it's difficult or expensive to ship those things from place to place. Immigration could boost our population so we can better tackle these issues, but our system forces immigrants to start from scratch. That doesn't provide immigrants with much reason to choose Canada instead of the Netherlands, the USA, Singapore, or some other country.

I was waiting for Québec to be dunked on, reflecting the reality in Canada, but that never happened. :(

You did not mention low crime rates, relatively low pollution levels, clean cities or very high general level of literacy and education. These are all variables which make Canada a great place to live.

In some cases, I was victim of racism here in Canada and this is what I just did: I speak in French instead to the aggressor; I have done that many times and usually it works; if it is like this indirect form of racism (much more frequent) where a “local” or even sometimes some Immigrants try to look down in me, I just called a friend of mine (who is usually free) and start to chat loudly in french with him!! And believe it or not, my French accent is 99% close to perfection although I do not look like a white French guy… but see… this is exactly why it is very amusing as you can barely imagine how most people act by seeing me talking in French!! Just say something like “… je reste pour une année en plus ici au Canada (make sure you say Canada to attract their attention) Et après je bouge sur Paris….”

All very good points and things to consider before moving. I guess some points go for more countries because moving to another culture is hard anywhere. You forgot to mention all the crazy mandates concerning Covid. I know it's everywhere but I have close contact with my sister in Europe and I can say that Canada is going WAY OVERBOARD with the government control on the citizens. I’d love to visit Atlantic Canada: all my friends here on the West Coast say it’s very nice. \nI loved living in Quebec and Montreal, but both cities are very cold in winter—and I don’t speak no french too good, hoste! \nI’m from Ontario. it probably was a beautiful place until white people got there. But it’s way too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Most of my family has moved out to the West Coast. I guess they missed me.\nManitoba is very nice, but you’re right about cold winters and lots of mosquitoes in summer. Winnipeg is a fantastic city. The biggest city on the North American Plains.\nSouthwest Saskatchewan is absolutely beautiful. Nuff said.\nAlberta is one of my favourite provinces—just too bad about the goofy government they got there. I lived and worked there lots over the years. Many Albertans have moved out here to the West Coast to get away from the horrid politics there.\nBC is by far the best place to live.
