Canada is being too gentle in its initial response. Why not go full throttle right from the get go. It’s shameful what “the most powerful country in the world”,”the land of the free” or whatever arrogant nickname the USA wants to go by. It makes me so sad to feel so angry at the USA knowing that so many of its citizens are good, great people. How can a country which has contributed so so much to the world become so reviled? I’m agog.

STOP LIVING IN OPPRESSION AND SLAVERY DEPENDENCY WITH TRADE. SELF RELIANCE AND INDEPENDENCE IS WHAT PEOPLE SHOULD BE DOING. SHUT DOWN TH TRADE AND END OPPRESSION WITH COST AND VALUE. THAT IS THE RESPONSE OTHER COUNTRIES SHOULD BE MAKING. THE US GOVERNMENT FORCES ANNUAL INFLATION TO OPPRESS THE PEOPLE WITH SLAVERY, COST, TAXES AND DEPENDENCY FOR ALL THEIR NEEDS. ITS SUBLIMINAL MIND CONTROL. WISDOM COMMENT #3 IF YOU HAVE A BUSINESS, INVEST IN MARKETS AND LIVE IN DEPENDENCY FOR ALL YOUR NEEDS FROM GLOBAL TRADE, SUPPLY CHAINS, ENERGY GRIDS OR JUST THE BASIC FOOD SUPPLIES YOU ARE OPPRESSING OTHERS WITH COST AND VALUE THAT DOESN'T EXIST. YOU ALL ARE REGULATED AND SUBLIMINALLY CONTROLLED SLAVES IN OPPRESSION UNTIL YOU REALIZE THIS. YOUR NOT HELPING PEOPLE BY CREATING COST ON OTHERS AND INFLATING COST TO MANAGE YOUR OPPRESSION WITH LIFE. HUMANITY NEEDS TO STOP BEING SELFISH AND USE COMMON SENSE. ADDICTION IS EVERYTHING YOU DO EVERYDAY. HUMANITY BREAKS UNDER PRESSURE FROM LIFE AND SOCIAL LIVING WITH OTHERS. WHY ARE YOU ALL TRYING SO HARD WHEN ITS SO EASY TO LIVE. WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND THE FALSE REALITY YOU LIVE IN AND YOUR PERCEPTION FINALLY SNAPS YOU OUT OF THE OPPRESSED SUBLIMINAL PROGRAMMING YOUR MIND WILL BE FREE AND YOU WILL FINALLY AWAKEN TO REALITY. FOCUS AND SEE THE TRUTH.

Well done Canada ?? a measured response. I think you have the support of most Americans to switch off the lights.

Justin Trudeau’s defining moment as a PM. A strong and measured response.
2025-03-04 0
I know that Canadian have complained about Justin Trudeau over the years, but his recent leadership in regard to Ukraine & Europe has been stellar and undoubtedly his response to Trump is something TO BE ABSOLUTELY PROUD OF! This is not the time to rock the boat globally, as Trump is doing
2025-03-04 0
Bravo, Canada! Americans brought this on themselves (and sadly, the rest of the world). I hold every person who voted for Trump PERSONALLY responsible for every vile deed committed by their cult leader.
2025-03-04 1
Well said Mr Trudeau!\nBeautiful response. I love it. \nThank you. \nWojtek from ?? Poland

Speaking logic to Trump. Get a response like: “why is your tie green?!”
2025-03-04 0
Everyone thinks that this is Canada standing up, but what this means is that the Canadians with our economy that is 1/10 that of the US will be taxed at 25% on our imports, this is going to hurt canadians way more than the retaliatory terrifs will hurt the americans. This may also lead to an escalated response from the US exacerbating the effect. Trudeau and others can't seem to grasp that there may be a long term strategy from Trump and this is playing into it. \n\nThe truth of all of it is that Trump does not like Justin Trudeau or the Liberal government.

Listening to Trudeau I am truly saddened that again USA has somehow elected a man who has systematically dismantling all of American's governments that oversee consumer rights and regulations while simultaneously fiscally attacking our neighbors, closest allies on all of our borders, meanwhile speaking publicly about a globally known dictator whose personal beliefs against democracy in his own country as well as the rest of the free world. I believe that a majority of Americans like myself are left shocked after this election and do not stand behind any of these unorganized, erratic government actions as we're looking at as a whole seem to be purposely creating a atmosphere of chaos and instability seemingly without responsibility there seems to be none in charge.

PERFECT RESPONSE

Trump love attention so watch how disrespectful his response to this be
2025-03-04 0
America, don't think that Canada, Mexico, Europe and more and more countries only hold dictator Trump and his dictator wanna-bee Vance responsible for this! More than half of the American people voted for him and therefore also for their backward stupid policies!
2025-03-04 0
Bravo sir! A true leader defending his country in a reasonable response . Dont blame you!
2025-03-04 0
The response of Trump will be : Trudeau is a nasty man ! \nTrump is unable to complete a sentence ! Peace for our ailles Canada from France ?

It’s really annoying that CNN continues to babble on instead of letting Trudeau finish his press conference and then proceed with their responses. Our country is in the hands of a madman along with Musk and other cowardly Republicans who are in office. For all of those who voted for Trump, wait till energy and other costs rise, but it’s a shame we will all suffer as a result. Canada is our friend I am ashamed right now to call myself an American.

Trump is such a fool. He just manufactured an excuse to put tariffs on. He likes to show he is a tough guy by inflicting pain on everyone. This fentanyl excuse is maddening. No other country has this issue. Drugs are illegal and no one is forced to take them. Take responsibility for your choices. No one should die but no one should take illegal drugs.

Canada's response to America's tariffs under Trudeau is a masterclass in balancing diplomacy with pragmatism. While the U.S. pursues a protectionist agenda, Canada stands resilient, leveraging strategic countermeasures and asserting its sovereignty. Trudeau's approach is not just about retaliating in kind; it’s a nuanced display of commitment to fair trade and a reminder that economic interdependence cannot be taken for granted. In a world where global relations are increasingly volatile, Canada’s measured response signals both defiance and cooperation, leaving the door open for a future where both nations can find common ground amidst the tension.

I don’t watch much news, let alone a response from another country. But this guy pisses me off for some reason
2025-03-04 0
When is anyone going to end this? Anyone?!!\nThe entire world is suffering under a single delusional narcissist. I don't think there are any serious politicians in the US, on both sides, who would support tariffs if they were not under his thumb. The entire GOP has relinquished responsibility and logic. No democracy can survive with that level of spinelessness.
2025-03-04 0
Trudeau is 100% responsible
2025-03-04 0
Congratulations to all the moral high ground voters watching this and pretending like you aren’t responsible. How’s that feel? You didn’t vote.. bc .. oh yea! No real reason that made sense against letting a dictator come into power. AGAIN.\n\nTo you, dummies, this is on you.
2025-03-04 0
His response doesn't feel valid. Canada doesn't do much for us, just take the heat Canada and stay quite.
2025-03-04 0
Trudeau is either a liar or he doesn’t have a clue about what is going on in Canada.\nThe borders we share with the United States are far from the fortress of security that he purports them to be. If they were indeed as impenetrable as he asserts, we would not be witnessing a continuous influx of illegal firearms—responsible for a staggering 99.9% of gun-related crimes here in Canada—crossing over from our southern neighbor. Yet, these illicit weapons are making their way into our communities, alongside a troubling wave of unauthorized entries into our country.
2025-03-04 0
Do not blame to Trump for every problem in Canada. Canada was in problem since you became PM. You are the responsible for Loonie devalue, immigration fraud, mortgage fraud in real estate, housing crisis, more govt spending, federal workers are more than doubled.
2025-03-04 0
The irony is, Trump will see this response as justifying his acts. He is warped in his thinking.
2025-03-04 0
Fantastic speech, a strong response to adversity. The UK is behind you 1,000%!
2025-03-04 0
Why does the media and the trump administration believe it is Canada’s responsibility to stop Fentanyl? In which imaginary scenario does the Canadian border interrogate and stop people from entering the united states ????
2025-03-04 0
Americans enjoy drugs too much, but they don't accept responsibility for their addiction. Instead, they blame others for their shortcomings and addiction . Nobody is forcing Americans to use drugs, Nobody twists their arm to be drug addicts, they do it to themselves

How many people grew up in Divorced families with arguments and name calling and all the insults? I’m just wondering because the way our president in America is acting along with JD Vance and all the MAGA politicians they all act like those parents with the constant negativity and verbal abuse that all the crap that they put the American people through!!! How many times has our country gone through anything serious within or outside of our country? I am 62 years old and I can tell you there has been many, but we have never had a president / vice president and all the politicians on one party sit there and act the way these IDIOTS act! I was just thinking about this because of the constant stress I feel on a daily basis with this administration! It is a public disgrace as our trailer trash parents fight in public! Makes you want to run away!! I cannot stand the people responsible for what we are experiencing in our country right now! I blame Trump, Musk and all those American that voted for these idiots!! F” off!!

A mature and considered response from a grownup. Let's hope the spoilt brats listen

@cnn.read these comments. You are responsible for a lot of the mindless drivel. This is why you will go out of business, only the most radical follow you.

Here is a wise man who speaks with knowledge and truth. Proud of him and wish that our White House held a responsible, dedicated, and honest man who represents ALL Americans, not just his very wealthy cronies
2025-03-04 0
Canadian here: Not a fan of Justin Trudeau but this response is admirable. And it is just step one. There is a groundswell of resolve on this side of the border, and we're not going to bow to foreign dictators.

The irony is that the US have for the past 40 decades preached the gospel of doing the right thing, no matter the cost, sticking for what is right, the tortured hero tale, the importance and responsibility that comes with great power, in movie after movie, show after show, to now siding with the biggest bully on the planet. If we (Europeans) ate it up (the media) , i can’t imagine how confused some north americans might be right now. I feel sorry for you guys
2025-03-04 0
President Trudeau, don't worry, all Americans I have seen say they don't want this either, but they understand your response and they commend you for it. So don't feel guilty for doing your job.
2025-03-04 0
Canada has been part of a family with the USA for decades, and to see it all in jeopardy now is appalling. \nNeed I remind our governance here in the US that CANADA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SEVERAL ARTICLES OF THE GENEVA CONVENTIONS (and not because they drafted the resolutions!)?? \nBottom line is Trump is causing a worldwide upheaval that is going to completely realign the power and economies of EVERY nation on earth, and the US is not going to fare well. \nPathetic.
2025-03-04 0
When trump recommended terrifs everyone cried “oh that will only hurt Americans” but then Canada does it in response and everyone cheers? Like isn’t he by your own logic now screwing Canadians? Which is it people?
2025-03-04 0
Sings great but no Trudy you haven’t done big things and don’t get to take credit for the good men that came before you. Good job taking the opportunity given here however I see another limp D trying to save his embarrassing career. But good for you getting all these gullible people to buy it. Half truths do not make the truth whole. 75 years of industrial decline aren’t getting fixed with friendly assurances and happy trade deals. During WW2 everyone lived on food rations, turned in all metals, kept their old cars running etc… and y’all are upset because inflation means you have to make some tough choices? I’m ashamed of every American that refuses to try something new since the last 50 years of the same old back and forth is what got us here in the first place. Obstruction and diversion. Division. Both parties are responsible. If Donald wants to destroy the faith of his faithful… let him. But going radical against half the country’s people isn’t going to end well for anyone. We should stop giving the rich all the cards.

The first CNN correspondent Paula’s toxic reframing of what the Prime Minister just eloquently shared with strength and respect is appalling. Infusing the term ‘anti-Americanism’ is 100% irresponsible journalism and incorrect on all levels. Listen to her manipulative dishonest expose at 10:15…\nThen, same dishonest propaganda from Alayna at 14:45… \n\nThe humans responsible for poor relations globally are people like Paula, Alayna, and everyone else from the far right which are unfortunately employed on purpose by the for propaganda and destructive political agendas. Shame on these unprofessionals and shame on imbecile 47 indefinitely for the deplorable lack of character and diplomacy, and absence of leadership that would otherwise be in place in order to serve the people. Trump is causing harm to his own country on all levels. \n\nTrudeau and Canada continue to be terrific neighbors with the US and care for our American friends, coworkers and families. The morons sitting in the White House attempting to bully long-standing allies globally are the only jerks creating relational fractures internationally. \n\nFrom, ??

As someone form the Caribbean that welcome everyone from everywhere, praises to Canada on the response of Trump and his enablers madness. Changing my summer vacation from Orlando to Toronto. Eff…Trump and Company.

Canadians must stop apologizing to Americans. We have nothing to apologize for. Every single American of voting age is responsible for this. \nYour elected president is an existential threat to my children. \nYou’re not my friend or ally\nFO\n????

Why aren't you reporting on Mexico's response?
2025-03-04 0
Thank you, Mr. Trudeau, for your dignified and firm response.
2025-03-04 0
We’re not anti- American, we’re anti-dictatorship. We are supportive of the good Americans. We didn’t take their jobs, savings and are decimating your country the idiots that voted this dictator in because their greed of becoming rich did it. You’ve been suckered, don’t put that on us. Take some responsibility for your own fucking mess. We didn’t shit on you! YOU CREATED THIS WORLD WIDE MESS.

Trump's Import Tariffs Are To Combat a Non-Existing Problem \n \nThe import tariffs that US President Donald Trump has imposed on Mexico, Canada and China are meant to combat a non-existent problem, economics editor Jonathan Witteman recently analysed. Trump sees the structural trade deficit (the difference between the export and import of goods and services) that the United States has with almost all of its trading partners as a sign of weakness. Contrary to almost all political left-wing and also right-wing economists, he believes that a trade deficit is bad for a country's economy and believes that the US is being cheated by countries that export more to the US than they import. \n \n'I have said that the EU must make up for its enormous deficit with the US by purchasing our oil and gas on a large scale. If not, punitive tariffs will follow', Trump said last December, for example, about the trade balance between the US and the European Union. \n \nA connection between a bad economy and having a trade deficit cannot be found, political economy professor Andres Freytag concludes in the analysis. There are many countries in the world, such as Germany, with a trade surplus but a poorly performing economy. The opposite is more likely to be true: in countries with a trade surplus, more people are unemployed. This was shown by the Peterson Institute. \n \nTrump's tariffs are more dangerous for the economy, because they reduce imports and exports, partly because other countries in turn impose punitive tariffs in response. Trump's announced import tariffs during his first term even led to a larger trade deficit and to 7.2 billion dollars in welfare losses in the US.

I'm a born Canadian and i'm BAFFLED at how you would turn around and impose tariffs on your closest ally. Canada and the US had a relationship that was built on trust co-operation and trillions of dollars and it means nothing to their current president. I used to be a fan of Trump, but the recent situation with Zelensky along with the tariffs i can see more and more that having him back in office was a huge mistake. Trump obviously doesn't care about how the tariffs affect his country and his people because he responded by threatening to raise the tariffs in retaliation to Canada's response.
