If business owners are turning away renters that could make them income, they are just horrible businessmen. I've never been turned away from an apartment or anything else because of my color. Thai here. Used to study at US for 5 years. Got a job at a local mart owned by a couple of Thai elders. I was super liberal back then but after 4 - 5 months.... Turne out stereotyes exist for a reason. I don't like it but that's how it is. We didn't have enough staffs to keep eyes on every customers. And 95% of all the shoplifters are a certain specific race. \n\nThey don't even care about the cameras. Only way to prevent loss is keeping eyes on them and get the merchantdises back when they tried to fled.

I live in a supposedly muslim country but if you wear hijab or god forbids niqab you are discriminated against. I was literally told that I shouldn't bother applying for a job in a certain company if I'm wearing a hijab. so I am a woman who isn't white and who is wearing hijab. finding a job in my field of work turned out to be such a hassle.

In the US they force companies to hire minorities. In many cases the minority is less qualified but gets the job PLUS they know a company must have a minority and don't try as hard to make the owners/company a profit. To hire them you need to follow a lengthy process and then of course hire another minority that to often turns out to be the same problem all over again. I was once escorted back home by a police officer i was warming up my dads cadilac the officer asked for id when i told him i was warming up my dads car because he was sick he told me lets go talk to him when i said i lived in a building were it was mostly jewish people he said yea right theres no spanish people living there when i got to my appointment my mom said whats going on i quickly said he said no spanish people lived here the cop turned brite red and said i just had to make sure he was saying the truth and walked away

It is NOT just race. Depending on the bag or backpack you carry, you get followed, which I hate. And I'm not black. My mother also gets followed everywhere in every Macy's store. It drives me crazy. It's really annoying, because I think it's because my mom has big purses and I usually have my art backpack. \n\nWhen I'm in a different town, I get followed in Walmart all the time. If I forget my shopping bags, I will empty my backpack so I can use that to put all my items in at the end of the purchase.\n\n In Best Buy, I'm lucky to get anyone to help me at all!!! I have to hunt someone down, and most of the time, they don't know anything anyway. Target: I have a hard time finding anyone to help me as well. I haven't really done a social experiment, but sometimes I just have my shopping bags and fill them as I shop and I won't carry a purse.\n\nLocally, I don't get followed because my family and me are known in that town. We know a lot of people and my face is everywhere. I never get followed. But out of town Walmart, I get followed in certain stores. It irritates me immensely, especially since I buy a lot of make up and the make up department is cramped they way they block the end of the aisles. It makes it really hard to turn your cart around when other people are in the same aisle. Then they close the make up aisle even though they have tons of cameras all over!! \n\nOverall, I don't know WHERE these backhanded compliments are coming from. I normally hear stuff about my weight. Nothing about race ever. Nor do I ever hear others talking about race. Weight seems to be the hot topic always.\n\nI also find it weird that the one guy feels like he needs to apologize!

When I lived home in the 80's and early 90's I was a teenager. Even then I noticed that the black hair care products were behind the counter but the hair care products for white people were in the isles. Even 2 years ago here, in Columbus, I was shopping with a friend. In my Lane was a white lady, my friend who was white, then me. We all used a card and the sign stated an ID was needed to use a card. No one was asked until it was my turn. When she asked. I showed it, then waited till the line was gone. Then I went to the counter and questioned her. She hummed and stumbled over her words. In the end her bigotry and profiling seemed subconscience. That was even worse.
