Yikes! Born and raised in Syracuse, NY and after college spent 16 years in Los Angeles until finally moving back to NY last year. Any comparison between Toronto and L.A. I simply won't stand for.....and I really mean that because you have less gun violence, seems like more cultures get along there, plus it looks cleaner. I'd consider moving to Buffalo just to be within an hour of Toronto to take weekend trips. After seeing how the rents up there are close to SF or NYC, def can't move there anymore. There's an appeal Canada has in terms of safety and perhaps better quality of life than the U.S. but frustrating to see housing crisis is even worse up there! I'd hate to see Toronto start to remind people of anything remotely close to California. Def sounds like you need a new PM asap. After seeing your Montreal video, think I'll take a short trip up there instead.

I was born here in America and I cant afford food. I cant afford rent. Im Not getting any help because Im not foreign or have 4-6kids under the age of 14. Thats right. Look it up!! I lived in the US for 30 years. I hated every year, except for having my sons there. My American husband is a staunch NRA supporter. At the 30 year mark, when I gave him an ultimatum. I gave him 30 years down there, and the time had come where he needed to do 30 years in Canada. We've been in Canada for 6 years, and he doesn't ever want to go back.\nI feel for the new mothers, who only get 6 weeks maternity leave (8 weeks for C-Section).\nCanadian Mums get a full year. Nurturing your new baby is necessary for a well-balanced child. You can't bond in 6 weeks. \nYour health insurance is nuts. We paid $1500/mo. just for our family. Then you have a $5k deductible first! Just walking into the ER is $500 and THEN add on labs, x-rays, meds, etc. My son was in mental health treatment and our insurance capped mental health at $25k for life. \nThe biggest slap up my head, was when I found out I CAN'T collect my SSI. I paid a lot of taxes, since we made 6 figures/year. So, now I'm screwed, since they won't pay a former Permanent Resident. Had I been a citizen, I could get it. My husband is a PR in Canada, waiting to take his citizenship test. If he applies for SSI, he needs to go down to the States for 30 days and nights, annually. \nI'm from Toronto, born and raised and I am so happy to have my feet back in my own country. My boys are still there, as well as my grandchildren. Thankfully, they fly up twice a year. You couldn't pay me to move back.

Completely agree with you. I spent 6 years in Canada and quit. Both me and my husband are highly educated but had to end up with minimum wage jobs to begin with. Winters are brutal. 2013 we experienced minus 40 with snow storms !! And keeping urself PACKED in ur home for months is extremely depressing. Medical facility inspite of being free is a joke !! You are better off getting basic medicines from India. They want to fix everything with Tylenol, that too such low potency that even 20 pills will not make any difference. And just 1 crocin in India and you can run a marathon next day. Education too is pathetic. They need a calculator to add 5 +5 !! Here 6 yr old kids do mental mathematics on 4 figures in their heads !! No university in Canada can even come close to IIT'S, IIM'S and IISC ever. 12th std math and science here in India is probably taught to engineering degree students on Canada. Moreover only Asian kids like Indians, Koreans Chinese kids ever reach university level education the rest are dropouts and busy with sex and drugs and temporary jobs to fend for the same. I’m born & raised in Montreal, Quebec and while it’s extremely multicultural and has an incredible education system, we have been experiencing a continuous housing crisis. Every year the rent prices and general cost of living are skyrocketing yet wages remain the same. It’s actually becoming a huge problem in Montreal. Young people are being pushed out as prices are starting to little by little be comparable to Toronto. \nAnd don’t get me started on the hate Anglophones receive here. Even Montreal natives like myself who are historically English get discriminated against every day. \nThe Quebec government is pushing the English language out of Quebec, making it harder and harder for Anglophones to be able to function and live practically here. You can’t even go to the hospital and get service. If you don’t speak French you can’t call and speak with any government services, and even businesses are forced to have French names, and only conduct their business in the French language. \nI myself am bilingual, but for someone who doesn’t speak the language, or is learning having trouble it’s nearly impossible to live in Quebec as they wouldn’t even be able to get a job. The discrimination Anglophones receive is insane and we are seen as a ‘bottom of the barrel’ minority, which is so sad seeing that this is where I was born and raised and where I call my home. \nThey’re taking away more and more public & social services and literally funnelling multi millions of dollars of funding , which is desperately needed for homelessness and many other social problems we have within Montreal and it’s all now going towards pushing the French language in Montreal (we literally have what’s called the ‘language police’ who’s job is to enforce French. They will give businesses thousands of dollars of tickets and even shut them down all because someone is caught speaking English) \nHopefully something will change soon or else Montreal is going to continue to become a place completely taken over by hate and discrimination and it will experience a MASS exodus (which is already starting).

I hate this so much. I know it’s not these peoples fault that their countries aren’t helping them but America isn’t even helping its own people. Imagine how it feels to be from the US struggling and then these people come and somehow our country has the means to help them when they won’t not can’t won’t help their own. What other country do you know of where you can just decide to cross their boarder demand help and say you know what I’m just going to live here illegally now. And if we don’t help them they have all kinds of ways to sue the state and demand help even though they’re not even citizens. That’s what’s crazy to me. The scene where Roses mom is in the boat with that other lady who has new money the chubby one. She wanted to let people on the boat that were drowning around her, and dude wouldn’t let her. It wasn’t because he was being mean it was because if people started holding onto the boat and trying to get on the boat they would panic, and eventually everybody would swarm the boat. The boat would not have been able to hold the weight of everyone holding onto it. Well the same here there’s people who are already drowning, and other people from other countries want to come here, but all they’re gonna do is sink the ship, and then there will be no help for anybody and everyone will be doomed. Both counties are similar and I love most Americans. But the health care costs and the right to carry guns does it for me. If you feel that you need a gun to protect yourself, then it’s not the environment for me. Then politics has so divided the county that people actually hate each other for their views. Almost half the country seems willing to place a president in office that doesn’t believe in democracy. Scary future there.

I lived in the US; Virginia for 13 years. For the most part the people are lovely... just like a lot of places. If you treat people with kindness; they usually return that kindness. At least that is my experience. Mind you, I came home in 2006. When I lived there the political climate was completely different. I would absolutely NOT move back to the US. When I came home to Canada; I was so grateful because I had to endure 2 years without Healthcare when I really needed it. I lived on pain pills at that time. I was in a wheelchair by 2008 and so grateful that I was home where my country took care of me when I was unable to work, or even walk. \n\nPolitics has changed so much since then. It was always kind of poler, but when Donald Trump entered the scene; it has become just awful. Again, I love the Americans for the most part, however there is so much racism, homophobia and hate displayed in the country right now. I pray every day that Donald Trump does not become president again. I fear for the United States. I love her as a sister to Canada; she is. I want her people safe...

When I was young, late 50's early 60's, I was jealous of people living in the US. We'd go to my Dad's professional conferences in various areas and everyone seemed to drive such expensive cars and live in such big houses. Now I know that's just window dressing. You have to look at what's underneath. I didnt see the poverty and the racism. Canada unfortunately has people who would like to take Canada down the same road as the US. We have good medical care, a social net, respect human and reproductive rights, attempt to keep religion out of politics, gun control (a pro hunter here!) , fair school funding (the whole province, not just district), and the list could go on. Is it perfect? No but its a whole lot better than the US. We Canucks just need to keep fighting for improvements and it isnt an American model for most of them. \nWe had always planned to take holidays and see various parts of the US. No more. The lack of gun laws is really scary, especially when combined with hate. We're not timid travellers. \n\nMove there... maybe California .

There was a time I would have. My father and Grandfather grew up in New York city as children and spoke highly of the States. Since 2016 I would seriously not consider living there. The gun violence that occurs their has gotten to the point that it has to be especially eggregious before it makes the news. The cavalier attitude towards guns and gun saftey is disturbing even from your politicians. it would be a recipe for loosing your privalege to own a firearm in Canada if you did what many of us see americans do with their guns. Open carry. Not allowed. Concealed carry. Not allowed. There are courses you need to take and pass on firearm saftey and gun use here, before you are given the privaledge of owning a firearm. Those firearms need to be stored properly or carried in cases at all times when not in use \n\nThat being said I have done those courses and I own guns. Rifles to be precise and a shot gun I use for hunting food. Pistols are not easy to get here and you can only use them on a range. The only people legally carrying pistols in public are the police.\n\nHealthcare is fine if you are young and healthy, with a job. If i showed up at 53 with a handfull of pre-existing conditions, I would be in bad shape.\n\nYour record on lgbtq+ and a woman's right to bodily autonomy is back slipping to the 1950's. Some politcians (not sure what level, state or federal) are looking to even reverse the position on interracial marriages for pete sake.\n\nI think if Voter appathy is allowed to continue, the vocal minority of people who want this will get their way despite the fact that the polls suggest the majority of americans hate what is happening

I think you need to look at several things before you say most Americans are OK when it comes to health care. First, what proportion of Americans are NOT getting health insurance through their employer? (Hint: it's more than half.) Second how many people feel they must stay in a job they hate just to retain their health insurance? Third, how many Americans go bankrupt every year due to health care costs? (Hint: it's in the hundreds of thousands. This doesn't happen in Canada.)

So many American's talk about the healthcare they get through their work, but what if you're boss starts treating you badly? A lot of people are doing jobs that they hate only because it gives them healthcare. You might want to start you're own business but you can't because you need the healthcare. And then there is the possibility that you like the healthcare you get through work, then you're boss gets a better deal on healthcare and changes providers. You have no say in that and you could loose some of you're benefits. You're health should not be a carrot that you're employers can dangle in front of you to control you.

I live 20 minutes from the US border, I'm single and doing the online dating thing. I Get lots of people who live in the states because I live so close to the border, but I immediately reject them. That's how much I don't want to even consider involving myself with the US.\n\nAlso, I think you need to do a little bit of research about your own company because your statement that the vast majority of people have health insurance through work is completely wrong. It's less than 50%. Most people in your country are screwed when it comes to healthcare.\n\nThe fact that basic human rights for the majority of the population are also under attack makes it a very easy no. Who would ever want to live in a place that is so hateful and violent?

We do not owe them a debt. They (or any other migrant) are not entitled to become US citizens solely bc their home country is in turmoil. Sympathy can only go so far but when you try to invade our country all sympathy is lost. We have families that we need to protect just like them. As an American born Hispanic citizen with one immigrant Father, and two immigrant maternal grandparents, I will say what needs to be said. The government was NOT made to PROVIDE help. It was made to MANAGE the country as a WHOLE! There’s a legal way of doing things! All these immigrants you see here are clearly uneducated, and will have a negative effect on the local communities surrounding the borders. If you want to act like fools charging the gates to our border, that is an act of war and should be treated as such. One warning shot would have made them stop. If they didn't stop you shoot one person. If that doesn't make them stop, you start taking ppl out. We need to protect our borders, protect them from criminals, drug mules, and the like. That means we need to do a background check before anyone can cross that border. Not letting them in, giving them a cell phone, giving them a place to live, not allowing them to work while they sit there waiting 2 years for a court date. If you are cool with that, then you are an issue and should second guess your own citizenship in this country because we the people are always first, no one else. Latin here, I came here legally but I can tell you that it was difficult as hell for my mom to bring me here, it took money and years for that, but I want you as a fellow citizen to understand their situation first, in Latin America you could be graduation from college and even with that having a good job it’s difficult sometimes, unlike here education in Latin America is not always something that all people can get and every time they vote for someone it becomes more trashier, housing for the poor doesn’t even exist, half of the country is corrupt and going outside you don’t who you may find, my brother needs to wait 7 years to become a resident (not citizen) he will be 30 something at that point, what the government should do is make the residency easier and I can tell you something like this wouldn’t occur that easily, my mom is a lawyer in my country and I can tell you the situation wasn’t easy, every three times a week there would be shooting outside my house, drug dealer was my neighbor, and at the age of 15 there would parents of two kids the sad part all this is normal, stopping it is imposible because it gets you kill, the police will kill you for doing a peaceful protest just to stop feminicide, wanting your kid to go outside without being scare something would happen to them, this people want peace and a job that is it and when your own country doesn’t even give you the right for that how could you live? Latin America is like living in the worst state in U.S multiply by 1000 and happening the same thing every day, riots or protest are imposible there because you know the police will never go the peaceful way, what this people are doing is wrong but they just want to live, it even surprise how much people hate their president here when in Latin America there hasn’t been any good president in decades. As a Venezuelan who migrated and still travels in the proper ways I can surely say many there want true help. Venezuela is insane compared to what you people even live whit, best work you can get there will make you up to 90-120 bucks a month, no food in supermarkets, some insanely expensive which will make you choose between buy bread or tuna and rice for a whole month ( imagine not being able to eat your favorite meats or prefered food FOR MONTHS, EVEN SOME YEARS) , if you are a professional or educated of course the opportunity grows up but not in a socialist country. as we know you can be a socialist in a capitalist system but not the opposite and this is a fact. Those people are genuinely scared with no home back in their country as for many houses and private properties have been removed with force, some of you sure will be wondering how or why not to follow the main curse to migrate? I had to spend 3 days sleeping on a huge queue with many other people also sleeping in the streets to get our passport(that's was the easy part, 4 years to get the date to finally get that fucker passport.), something so simply done in other countries which such ease, not to mention the whole cost for a passport (I knew people who paid aroundn 700usd to get it asap). \n\nPlease don't pitty these people nor hate on any inmigrants, some families there really wish for a future, and again as someone who had the opportunity to do my papers. We do not wish this upon no body. The pain in the hunger, the fact the money from your country is so little valued that even video game money has way more worth.\n\nIt's a very scary place which we are trying to genuinely scape from.\n\nHopefully for my brothers and sisters from the states try to understand, hopefully these people at some point will need to understand that doing things out of fear will not get them far.
