Colombia wouldn't pay diddly it would be Americans, period. Tariffs, historically, don't work because the citizens pay them on any goods that come from that country. Colombian coffee is really good btw. We got people with no health coverage, homelessness rising, housing unaffordable to most, on and on, what is this administration doing for that?! American consumers pay the tariffs. The companies pay the import tax and then pass the cost to the consumer. Why do people try to manipulate and tell folks something different.

Bottom line is that American consumers will pay for this action. The smart thing would be to establish a protocol for these flights returning. The country receives notification with names, stats and photos. \nIts represent a diplomatic solution so both the United States and Columbia can process. Now the returned planes with those illegals land back here a nd we will house and feed them for months at tax payer expense!!!!! Plus now a conference of all Latin American will probably refuse any flights to a diplomatic solution occurs!!!! Plus in most cases the product with tariff is being produced with an American partner!!!! The banana production companies are american owned or have a large vested investment!!!! When did the readership of cnn get so frikking stupid. The US is the biggest consumer country in the world. Tariffs will only hurt Americans, all of your costs will go up. You pay tariffs, we don’t. For Columbia, your coffee, tropical fruit like bananas, flowers are going up. For Canada, your gas prices, housing costs. Mexico, fruits and vegetables….basically your inflation is going to sky rocket.

Americans are incredibly short-sighted.. Yes this Tariffs bullying will work now on the short term. But you're always driving countries to review their strategic partnerships and look elsewhere. So ok, in the immediate, this might sound like a win (for those with the IQ of a turtle), but the US just gave the whole world another reason to join BRICS, and start looking into ways to drop the US dollar.
