I'm a CPA who works in both the US and Canada. Because of how small business (CCPC) taxes work in Canada, I would pay about 50% more in income taxes if I moved to the US. \nMost people will find their tax burden is lower in Canada. \nCanadians demand and get value for their taxes. and as a result, most Canadians (not all) still trust their government to do what is best for the majority.

Grew up in a border city; travelled extensively through 46 states. Canada may have issues but the USA has major problems. My answer - Nope.

I have a relative who just moved to Canada last month with his partner. I believe he’s retained dual citizenship for now. But he has no intention of living in the United States for the rest of his life.

I enjoy vacations in the USA and have visited about half of the States. It's an awesome place to visit but the best part alway is coming back home to Canada. PS I have a lot of American friends and I love them all ..to me they are no different than my Canadian friends.

I went to University in the states and lived there for a time, but since coming back to Canada I would never ever want to live in the states again. Canada is a much friendlier and safer country not to mention health care. It is when you get old down there that you are in jeopardy.

Don't listen to the naysayers... I am moving to the US next month and I CAN'T WAIT to get out of Canada! Everything you buy is too expensive, and that's AFTER the tax rate which is nothing short of grand robbery. Health Care was already abysmal with waitlists over a year for certain procedures, but in the last 3 years it fell apart even further. Crime is on the rise everywhere and government just releases everyone regardless of public risk (read into Saskatchewan mass shooting from last year).\n\nI am set to make $20,000 more in salary, without even taking exchange rate into account, and that is going from Vancouver which has among the highest salary average in Canada to a small American country side town.

Uh fact check!! Canada is not smaller than the US. Canada is the second largest country in the world, Russia is the largest.

I think you have been desensitized to the mass shootings in the US. They occur in good neighbourhoods like Parkland which is close to where my sister lives. My sister has lived in Florida for 38years and is an American citizen but she wants to move back to Canada. It won’t be easy for her because she has developed very strong friendships in Florida, but really doesn’t like living there anymore. As for me, I say hell no, I would never move to the US. There are many parts of the US I would like to visit, but I am becoming more and more frightened to travel in the states.

I would not consider moving to the US because I have a lot of health problems and I wouldn't be able to get coverage for my conditions. In Canada I've had 4 times when I've had to go in for emergency surgery and they get me into surgery in a few hours (basically the time it takes to do all the blood work and prep). I know people complain about long wait times, but that's only for non threatening illness/injuries. There can be a line of people waiting for hours with their minor injuries, but that's because people with serious problems get bumped to the front of the line. That has saved my life on multiple occasions. I've also had to wait 4 months for surgeries that weren't life threatening, so I know what that's like too, but I'd rather wait longer for something non life threatening knowing that it's because they leave room for emergencies. \nMy sister moved to the US a year ago for her husband's job and his job has benefits that cover everything. They seem to enjoy it (they live in one of those custom built communities in Florida that is basically a Country Club)

We lived in the states for several years. We moved home to home to Canada and will NEVER move back to the states! They no longer have moderates, only extremes in politics and religion…oh wait, that’s the same thing now, isn’t it?

We fled the US six years ago...not Canada, but to a country safer and not toxic like the US. Not going back.

Hi Tyler I have been splitting my time between Florida and Vancouver for the last 25 yrs , my wife is American and my daughter went to high school and college in the US. The years prior to 2016 the Floridians were very warm and welcoming every year I returned for the 6 mo winter season. After the 2016 election things changed, I became one of those people (an unwanted foreigner). I still have my place in Florida but it’s time to sell and find a place that is more welcoming. I read an article a couple of yrs ago that Canadians pay approximately $500 m a year in property taxes to the State of Florida and contribute millions more to the Florida economy… as I see it now the division in the US is getting to be to much. We have our problems in Canada but we let people live their life their way and I live my life the way I choose and accept people just the way they are.

I live in Canada. In 1984 I bought a house in Florida as a vacation home. Ten years later I sold it. I bought a house in Costa Rica. Best move ever. Look at what is happenning all over the U.S. and especially Florida. Canada in the summer and Costa Rica for winter vacation. LOVE IT.

Canada is canada.I am from lahore and living in calgary from last 15 years. When I arrived in canada I had a good govt job of grade 19 in back home, but there was no satisfaction and peace. If you don't involve that system then you are fool. Because bribery is normal routine matter. Medical cost was very high. A lot of problems were in back home. No rewards and relevant jobs for children. That's why children become inferiority complex. No doubt after vivid living cost rises but even then not bad. Canada do not compromise on food so that's why every thing is in original form. Taste develope after passage of time and is no issue. Living style also be changed after passage of time. You can easily become familiar with weather. So canada is canada. Thanks.

I am scandinavian and I would NEVER move to the US, Canada though is one of my favourites if I were to move somewhere else. I agree with the Canadians on reddit on every point. My tip would be - visit Canada and experience yourself why this is the case. You can always make a new home for yourself in Canada, and have an even better life there. With all that you now have learnt about Canada, you're halfway there. Just visit, and see the US/Canada from another point of view. north of the border. Hope you do someday, why miss out on this fantastic country, people and culture anymore?!! Good luck! ???

There is a selection bias on the forum the question was asked.\nA large proportion of recent immigrants to Canada would prefer the USA if it were an option.\nIf you are in a specialized field or at the top of your field, the USA makes more sense.\nLikewise if you are wealthy the USA is better for you.\n\nI live on a Disability pension and would be dead or homeless in the USA.

My uncle moved to Texas when he married my Texan aunt, but I’m fairly certain that’s only because she has a medical condition that means she physically cannot endure the temperatures we get here in Canada in the winter months. She would have quite literally been housebound for a third of the year every year if she came up here.\n\nEdit: Also, Canada may have a smaller population than the US, but we actually have the second-largest total land mass out of all the countries in the world. That’s more than 4 school shootings *per month.* Of course we don’t trust the USA to be a safe place for children. To be blunt, you couldn’t pay me to move down there. I have family in Massachusetts that I visit and that’s quite enough for me. Canada isn’t perfect, but I don’t live in fear of my nephews being shot in school, or going into massive debt because of my health issues. Not to mention the recent anti trans legislation cropping up and the govt desire to control women’s bodies. No thank you. Never.

A lot of Canadians move to the US in certain industries. Finance jobs, tech, and medical jobs pay many times the rate that they do in Canada.

All the American people I know are nice, friendly, pretty progressive folks. Some are dear dear friends. Of course, they are all people who chose to leave the US and come to Canada, so..... lol.

I was once asked by a American colleague why did I not immigrated to the USA, the answer is: it was not even in the list of possible countries. In fact it is on my top list of places not to move to. \n\nYou have a good insurance through your job? That only means you have one more reason to fear losing it or stay on a particularly bad one if you don’t have anything lined up, if you have a chronic health condition, then you are straight out hostage to your employer. Even if you do have good insurance your bills may one day go beyond the maximum and you still risk bankruptcy. \n\nIf you do go bankrupt, in any civilized country you can’t go to jail for debt, in the USA you can, the country with the highest incarcerated population in the world in absolute numbers and relative too. To add salt to the injury it is a country that did not completely make slave work illegal, it is still legal if you are not a free citizen and your prison system exploit that.\n\nSo it is a country that you can become slave because you got sick.\n\nThen there are the guns… the fact you think you are exempt of school shootings says it all, if you live in a small city it would not affect you? Are you really saying mass shootings never occur in small cities?! Not a chance! As imperfect as our healthcare system is in Canada, by comparison our system amazing and not based on your employment status. And the go-go culture would also turn me off, with the constant focus on work and productivity. I'd move to almost any western European country where work is part of life not the focus of life!!

You can pick almost any place in Canada, and feel that you are going to be safe. Our nation isn’t perfect… But you really aren’t going to have to worry about where in this country, are you going to be subjected to extreme gun violence.. FACTS.

My visits to the U.S. have always been positive experiences. Always. But, when you see signs in malls (outside of Macey's at the Mall of America) to keep your guns locked in your cars and not bring them into the mall...well!!! So many reasons to not leave Canada. Canadian here. What I would like to visit the US for is the land. Yes we have incredible landscapes here, but since the land doesn't miraculous change at the border, the US has some great sights. I think you got the point about us being worried about guns. That's a topic you have briefly discussed in some of your videos but I think you could benefit from diving into that topic more. Canada is not immune to gun violence, however when something like a school shooting happens, it makes national news. In the US, that's just called nightly news.

When the interest of the 1% rich supersedes the interest of the public good, when the Interest of Pharma, Corporate America, and the U.S. Government supersedes the interest of the public good they suppose to serve, and when there is 30 to 40 million Americans have nutritional deficiencies or at or below the poverty level, Who would want to leave a country like Canada and move to a country plagued with political and social problems which has no real interest in improving the lives of its citizens...? I would consider living in the USA but I would lose many of my Canadian veterans benefits and services that I currently receive. My grandparents are from North Dakota. I could use that to get citizenship through derivation… but then there would be the requirement to file income taxes in both countries. Any tax free benefits I get as a Canadian vet, would loose their tax free status and become taxable if I claimed my citizenship… so I have decided not too. If these issues were not in play, I would consider moving to northern Minnesota or Montana or Vermont. Somewhere close to the Canadian border, close to family but in a better climate zone. I like growing my own food and a longer growing season with nicer forests would be awesome. The climate in Manitoba is not the greatest for growing a variety of trees… and the trees do not get very big. I love Orlando and spend about 6 weeks a year there… but I could not see myself living there full time. Sometimes I will drive the 3600 km south to Orlando and I get a really good view of the wealth disparity in the USA… So that alone, I am happier in Canada… knowing that there is a better safety net for us should a situation in life happen that would leave you broke and homeless in the USA

I did move to and live in Florida for a year and a half and it was the worst decision I ever made. It was awful and to say it was a culture shock is an understatement. I moved from Victoria BC to Fort Lauderdale Florida. I was yelled at for wearing a mask in the grocery stores, I was called a pedophile and a groomer for being gay, I was told repeatedly that Canada is a communist, socialist evil woke empire. When I finally moved back to Canada it was like a breath of fresh air and a relief.

Canadian here.\nVisit the USA, sure I have several times. I have met some lovely people and seen some beautiful things. My family is going to Flordia soon and we are really looking forward to it, even though we disagree with the governor and don't really want to support the state that supports him. \n\nMove there, HELL NO. Is Canada's politics perfect, no, but I honestly do feel like we have more say in our government and more choice.\n\n Over the last few the loss of woman's rights in the US is horrifying. I am not a breed mare I should have the choice if I want to have the child or not. \n\nLGBTQIA+ rights have also taken a nasty turn in the US.\n\nYou have had more mass shootings than days of the year this year, that's terrifying. We've had 2 this year and both of them have happened in the last month. I believe its been over a decade since out last school shooting.

When you talk about Healthcare your analysis is solely based on Personal income tax. This is utterly disingenuous, because all working individuals pay taxes in Canada and that money goes into paying for not just health care but many constructs that govt. of a modern society must pay to ensure Canada remains competitive. Out healthcare system is struggling but it's still way better than the American system.

Please anyone watching this do not take it as fact. Pretty much got all of it wrong. Fishing and Hunting in Nova Scotia and cold? Can live in Vancouver for $50,000/year?? Alberta is way more than Agriculture, oil and gas. Also quite a few more cities than just Calgary. Toronto is getting worse every year. People are leaving the city because it is so expensive to live there. Quebec is getting up there with cost of living along with the taxes. Vancouver Island, yes mild in the winter compared to the rest of Canada but jobs are hard to come by which is why a lot of people retire there.

India could hit hard Canada Leadership by freezing all assets of its Bomardier investment in India.

Constantly applying will get you the job they is something you guys have to know whenever you apply for a job position the employer will not throw it away they have to keep it and wait for does already have work permit in Canada

if you do not have enough money to pay why do you risk yourself going to study abroad??. it is known that in UK Canada USA and Australia, tuition fees are high. it is not possible paying tuition fees by working there as a student. if you do not have enough financial stability it is better to study back home rather than end up as a drop of student.
