The American government is very powerful. A lot of Americans are afraid/wary of their government. As a Canadian, I am not afraid of my government. It isn't that powerful. That in itself makes me feel free. I lived in the states for a year or so when I was a kid. I went to school down there for a year. In that year I saw the patriotic indoctrination that happens at a very early age. Looking back on it as an adult I realized that it was just brainwashing. That is how the American government so easily controls such a large portion of the American people.

Lol moved out of comufornia and wont go back. Heard many say they left comufornia to a red state and wont go back. Just too bad they didnt learn to vote different. Leave 1 shit hole to a red state but still vote blue then that state becomes comufornia. If i left canada to the states i would never live in comufornia. I would move but not right now with biden. I drove long haul 20 yrs to the states. Lost cdl to medical reasons. Its been 10 yrs since crossed the border. I would cross but with biden nah. Maybe florida or texas be ok. Texas always been my favorite state. Or arizina a close second.

I’m shocked that you’re surprised about all the comments around our children and school safety. That would be my first of many reasons for not moving to the States. Healthcare, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, etc etc…… \nCanada is not perfect, no country is, but it’s light years better than the States. Sorry, eh. \n\n(McDonalds and Disney are not selling points, at least not for me!)

No we are not a better America. We have a sane country, no guns, no militarized police, a democracy, a parliamentary form of government and a King as our Head of State. A Trump would be impossible up here. We elect a party not a leader. One non-confidence in parliament and our Vice Regent, the Governor General would inform the King and parliament would be closed for a new election. We also have no ridiculous nearly 250-year-old Constitution. Our Consitution is based upon the British North American Act. We can revise it anytime with the Governor General's permission (and the King's). We are a peaceful nation and do not think like Americans. But I'd travel in the North East US. America''s fixation with patriotism is nauseating.

Firearms are the leading cause of death for Children 18 years and younger in the United States.

Without looking it up, do you know how many mass shootings are happening in the states every year? Or every day? I love the states always have, but it has always amazed me how much American's don't know throughout their whole lifetime what's happening 2 blocks over. Cheers eh.

He stated a couple of times that you need to be strategic in where you live in the US when speaking of gun violence. I could live anywhere in Canada and not worry about my kids. Also, what can you expect from a country that believes 1/3 pound is less than 1/4 pound. Don’t believe me? Ask A&W…they tried to sell Americans a 1/3 burger for the same price as McDonalds 1/4 burger and it flopped, Even though blind taste tests proved most people thought it was a better tasting burger. Maybe if you ( Americans) had adopted the metric system, you wouldn’t have that problem. America is on of only 3 countries in the world that still use the imperial system. To put things into perspective Tyler, there have been 340 mass shootings in the States so far this year. That's more than one a day and is scarily close to 2 per day. Meanwhile in Canada there's been 2 (which also thankfully no one has died in and 'only' 4 were injured in each though ideally neither of these would have happened either of course). The year in Canada with the highest number of mass shootings ever was 2018 with 7. Since the year 2000, there have been 53 mass shooting in Canada. That means, in less than a year, the US has had more than 6x the amount Canada has had in the last 23 years combined. Almost all of Canada's mass shootings also tend to happen either directly in Toronto or just the GTA in general so, anyone who's worried about that in Canada can live basically anywhere else in the country.\n\nI have no doubt that the vast majority of Americans are at least decent human beings with a fair number of them being amazing people. However, if even 10% of Americans were considered crazy, that's basically the same number of people as the population of Canada. Canada has it's crazy people too of course but the chances of running into one is far less likely and it's much harder for those crazy people to become dangerous because it's harder to get firearms.

I hear a lot of my fellow Canadians question if travelling to the United States is even worth it nowadays, stating concerns over political violence, shootings, etc.

I would as a snowbird, look it up. We have lots of those. The term is because we live in the states when it snows.

My nearest hospital has a air ambulance helicopter. In America a Regular ambulance can cost you up to 5k and An air ambulance in the USA can go upto $36,000.\n\nin Ontario i'd pay NOTHING for a regular ambulance and 45 Dollars for the helicopter You're not even in the hospital And we're already talking stupid amounts of money

Truthfully there are areas in the states I wouldn't move to being liberal, but there are others I would like New York, California, parts of Florid we have what we call snowbirds who live in the US in the winter.

I grew up in a border town always going over to New York state which I loved doing. I also love traveling within the U.S (going to Florida in 3 months) but to live there ?? Maybe!? I think if I met someone from there I'd definitely consider it, but to move there for no reason ? No . For me I feel like it's more of a don't knock it till you try it kinda thing

I think the US has beautiful countryside and wonderful scenery and many lovely people, however, because of the divisiveness of the Republicans and the MAGA/Trump/NRA group which has caused such chaos and violence throughout the States during the past decade things in the US have gone downhill extremely quickly. The number one reason Children in the US are dying from is bullets - not accidents or diseases. That is a terrible statistic and the Republicans are doing absolutely nothing to stop it - prayer doesn’t stop bullets. \nAs a Canadian I used to travel to the US as a tourist but I no longer feel safe going there and will no longer go across the border. Florida seems to have implemented the worst political policies ever in its history and I believe it’s economy is going to absolutely crash. \nIf the States votes Republican in the election it’s going to be in its absolute worst possible political, global, financial, economic, and humanitarian position in its history. It will be a critical crisis for the country….

I ‘ve met so many Americans on trips and through living in San Francisco for 3 months for a course. They were very kind, thoughtful and knowledgeable people. I also love many beautiful places in the States. I find though, that the media ignores Canada to a great degree only reporting negative issues . I don’t care for the super nationalism of the government, the gun laws, the many wars they’ve been involved in, nor do I like the racism and the present divisiveness of the country given that a person like Trump could be voted in and have so much power! That is frightening! I could never have afforded my two hip and knee replacements as well as other surgeries and the birth of four children had I lived there consequently, I would make friends with Americans who move here withthe same principles, but no to moving to the United States OF America.I was happy to return to beautiful Vancouver Island, (which was voted one of the top Islands in the world by CNN, Time magazine and Conde Nast, )

Your Insurance is a couple hundred a month? THAT is too much! No way would I move! And I've had operations and NOTHING costs anything when you go to the hospital no matter what you have or need!! No way. One thing people failed to mention is how often citizen's voting rights are suppressed. The whole system is politicized, gerrymandering is real. \n\nNot to mention the politics in the judicial system that extends all the way to the Supreme Court. The fact that key instigators of the Jan 6th failed coup are still walking free and one is even able to run for president is extremely disturbing. \n\nAs much as I hate the current government here and know how little my region's votes count I have at the least some comfort knowing we have an impartial overseer of the election process. \n\nDown south they are one election away from a 1984 situation. If Big Brother doesn't like what you do in the privacy of your own home expect the state to intervene.

Personally I do not agree with Batsh_t remark. I would not move to the states. Medical is a huge reason but I would also have no right to vote in either country. If a Canadian is out for more than 6 months we lose our right to vote. Sad but true Oh and Tabernak is the worst swear word in French .Does not really translate properly. Love your people though

Canadian's reaction to US right-wing politicians and Christian nationalists is not out of step with many Americans. However, it is an overwhelming majority here in Canada. For example a poll of Canadians in February 2022 found that 68% believed democracy would not survive another 4 year term of Donald Trump as President, and 47% were concerned about the US potentially becoming an authoritarian state.\nThat being said, President Biden had a warm welcome in Canada's Parliament, and is generally well regarded here.

The school shooting thing SHOULD be something you all discuss. I don't think all school shootings have happened in dangerous areas...Maybe the US media downplays it. The rest of the world is horrified as these events are FAR more common in the states than anywhere else.

If I was super rich, I would consider moving to the States. It looks really fun, when you have enough money to live in safe and fun cities and don't need to stress about healthcare cost.

Sorry. Hard no. I will concede that there are beautiful natural features worth visiting along with some interesting cultural and historical sites. I have travelled to many of the states- maybe half of them. However, having said that I have not felt safe enough to visit there in the past decade. I do want to return to do genealogical research, but am not rushing to come back. I do think you hit the nail on the head about being sensitized to the volume of violence. I applaud your reflective stance on this.

I would not consider moving to the states for any reason, but my reason at this point is that I’m terminally ill and disabled and I can’t even get travel insurance to be able to visit my family there. My mother’s family are all Americans. I had a lot of fun visiting them in my late teens, back in the early 90’s but now I wouldn’t even drive across the border to go shopping. Well, I do go across the border to Alaska, because that’s just an hour away, but Alaska is very different from the continental United States. And I only go to Skagway for the afternoon to get fish and chips. I welcome Americans to Canada with open arms, but I have zero desire to ever live or visit there. One at a time, on my terms, in my country, Americans are great, but your nation is falling apart at the seams. I don’t feel safe there at all.

In Canada, we report a lot of American news as well. All the time we hear about mass shootings happening in the United States.

Tyler, Canadian here, you need to realize that the number of us who are Canadian and have seen an actual gun in real life is pretty small. I never have. Unless you are a hunter or a cop most of us have never seen one or heard one fired in real life. The thoughts of the mass shootings and school shootings is insane to us, never mind moving there I am no longer comfortable visiting. Maybe the stats reported here are incorrect but there has been a school shooting in every single state, many of your cities see more people die by gun violence in one year than we see in the entire country which averages about 250 a year I think.

Over 1 million Canadians live in the United States

I am Canadian. I truly feel culturally we are very similar and there are many great places to live in the States. However in the areas we do differ are the things that make me a proud Canadian. I wouldn't necessarily oppose to living there but that health care issue is the big NO for me. Not to mention the 100 year old President who can barely use full sentences is kinda scary.

Can someone pull up the population and other stats about Newtown CT for Tyler? Pretty sure a small town full of middle class (upper middle clas?) white people didn't help those kids. And that's just ONE of the smalltown school shootings. There is nothing more strategically advantageous to me than NOT moving to the states. Tabernac.

I don't know if you know this Tyler but America just hit its final hour, 250 years is the expiration date for empires and your United States just hit that mark. Plus have you seen the way Canadians have socialized systems that give us a high quality of life. Our current government is still capitalist but I currently can't be kicked out by federal mandate if I keep paying rent, the liberals have put this provision in place because the housing market is out of control. The liberals under Trudeau also helped the first nation's people more than ANY priminister to date and he dealt with the mass graves the best a light skinned priminister could. You should read about this guy who tracked school shootings across the states and when he masturbated. He found that there were more school shootings than times he masturbated. It helps to put things into perspective.

There are places in the States that I love to visit (although not right now, because I've never had a passport). I used to be in a drum corp, and we did a lot of parades and field shows down there in New York State and Pennsylvania, and had a great time. But I would never move there. I probably couldn't afford health care there anyway. My niece married a lovely guy from Maine, and he was planning on moving up here, but for unexpected family reasons, they ended up staying there. But he is increasingly worried about the political climate.

Tyler, the gun laws in the United States are ridiculous! A person can get a gun at the age of 18 but can't buy a beer, pack of cigarettes or see an R rated movie. School shootings happen in small towns too. Uvalde is barely over 15,000. I don't think the founding fathers had your current gun culture in mind when the Constitution was written. Look up Japan's gun laws. That's the model all countries should follow.

Healthcare in Canada is falling apart, our prime minister is trying to turn us into a dictatorship, cost of living has gone extreme especially buying a house.......Canada is not Canada at the moment, I would wait before moving here yet lol. I would not go to the states however I've considered other places.

For me...I didn't mind visiting the States but to live there? No thanks. I live in Northern Ontario. My health for one, but I never felt comfortable down there at all. (been right down to GA for Dragon Con. A sci-fi/gaming/movie etc convention and other things) I have good friends down there so visiting is fine, but I just can't.

If I had to choose between dying in a fire and moving to the states as someone who actually almost has died in a fire I think I’ll stick with what I know how to do besides it’s not as bad as you think dying in a fire that is not the states that place is a hellacious nightmare
