Stay out of cities and you’ll probably be fine , same as Canada, some cities are safer than others

Maybe Canadians are more concerned about gun violence than Tyler feels they need to be, BUT HERE IS WHY! \n\nAccording to USA today and Forbes magazine there have been more than 300 mass shootings so far this year and 200 people were shot on the 4th of July alone. These articles are dated July, 2023. A mass shooting was defined as 4 or more people killed or injured. There is a bbc article from May 2023 that states 48,830 people died of gun violence in 2021 in the US; that’s the population of a small city in Canada. Half those deaths were suicides, which occur because the guns are available. All of these articles mention the shear number of guns in the US, more guns than people, 120 guns per 100 people. So yes, I think Tyler is exhibiting his American bias and has become desensitized. His statements that it’s only in some places and to choose carefully where you live because violence isn’t every where are not borne out by the stats. These shootings happen in all corners of the country and every time they do people are shocked that it could happen in their safe little town. Think back to Columbine, Sandy Hook, Parkland, Uvalde these were not violent communities yet their schools were targeted. \n\nThe gun culture is high on the list of reasons I wouldn’t move to the US but do is politics, women’s rights, anti 2SLGBTQ legislation, health care, environmental protection laws ( or lack there of), lack of social programs, etc. Canada certainly isn’t perfect but I’ll take it warts and all over a US option. Don’t get me wrong I love to visit the US but living there is a whole different ball of wax. Thanks but no.

Tyler the vast majority of Americans and Canadians live in larger cities than you so you have not been exposed to the day to day lives of the majority. I simply cannot see how so many are willing to accept the gun violence, healthcare nightmare where you are afraid to lose your job and insurance. The hatred between the left and right is staggering and leads to some of the violence for which we can thank Trump.

To be honest, I would❤ consider moving to the US for the right opportunity and as long as I got to pick the city. I do enjoy a lot of what the US has to offer.

I personally would in a second. \nI have lived in both countries and hands down it's better living down there. \nExperience living in multiple cities in multiple states.. and living in basically every major city and a lot of small towns in Canada.. I know 100% Canada is not as good as the states. \nAs a Canadian I can say Canada is not what people think it is... they think it's so much better here when they sy that because it's safer.. not better..not remotely.. we are so restricted here to do anything.. own land. .. grate now build something on it. Have fun. Years and thousands just to get a house approved.. the restrictions American people don't have make it that much better. \nFirearms.......... \nI've lived in so called bad areas in the states and honestly I've had way more nonsense happening in good areas in Canada. \nThe states have there downsides but overall way way better. \nMy next plan in Utah or Arizona..

School shootings are not limited to big cities in the US. Read the news - small towns & rural areas also suffer mass shootings in schools AND churches or places of worship. I think you are right in that you're too desensitized to it\n\nand P>S> America is not in anyway trying to do the same as Canada. The US is a Capitalist country - we have a capitalist component but we balance that with a social responsibility

I lived in Phoenix AZ for 3 years and I miss the state and the travel opportunities close to it, the scenery was absolutely gorgeous, people were nice and friendly for most of them. I surely don't miss the violence associated to a big city like that and the heat in summer but I still miss AZ. I was feeling unsecured cause of the health care and the cost related to it since I was getting older.

Im from a small town in Northern Ontario. It terrifies me, the amount of random mass killings, serial killers etc. Also I have A LOT of health issues, it would bankrupt us. Tyler needs to visit Canada, to fully grasp what Canada is and how we are as a people. The big cities seem to be having more gun violence which shocks most of us.

You enumerate conditions to be ok in the USA, for ex live in the city, live in a secure part of the city or of the country… have a job and you’re ok for healthcare which in the end is still expensive and does not even cover. everything. Here tHe comfort comes from not only I’m 100% protected but ALL Canadians are. What we have in our social net, so does everybody else.

I'm actually planning to move to the US in a couple years. Main reason is to escape the weather. Also, the mac&cheese in the US is 100 times better.... can't really find any other advantages.\nI haven't picked a city yet but I'm leaning towards Nashville or a town close by in Tenessee; not too hot in summer, no snow almost ever, Nashville has an NHL team, the people in Nashville are great and the roads aren't falling appart.\n\nI'll just need to find a way to Iimport Poutine and i'll be golden.

This lady is most ignorant. Ask her how 80% of Indians deal with health care. These ladies should back to India ??. Canada doesn't owe them anything. Best would be that they should take their families back to India and live happily. These people don't see a very large population living in Slums like Bombay Delhi Calcutta and other big cities. I think these ladies live in Toronto/Vancouver. In the early 80s my family moved outside of the big city. Then the city grew out to where they live. I don't agree with the boredom of Canda. If you want action you can always find it. If you live within your own communities you will feel like this!!

And certainly not pension funds before they were dissolved in favor of the 401k, and the social security politicians are constantly working to cut while ever increasing the retirement age past what most people will never live to now that 45% of our water is tainted with PFOAs that will have everyone born today die of liver cancer before the age of 65.\n\nIt was CAPITALISM that made this country! There is housing in nothern ontario where these people can work at year round fly in fishing and hunting camps..\nHousing in the northwest territory where they can work 2 weeks in at mine sites and out for 2 weeks in the apartment..\nSo there are just a few options and you can have these people out of big cities and employed and living in housing while working which the housing will be covered for free..\nJust thinking of options for these people..

Instead of ensuring that all Peoplekind wanting to emigrate to Canada were properly vetted both to protect Canadians and all other emigrants he opened Canada's borders without any oversight. Housing is a big problem. No Canadians nor immigrants can afford it. The health care system is a failure. Toronto is the best city in the country to find a Doctor but else where is a different story. Planning to move down to the US. All my colleagues have already moved.

Imagine if these same people marched into their own city halls or politicians office. They wouldn’t have to leave their families or their home, it would force their authorities to do more for them.

Where are you going to put these people? I know that in New York City and I believe in California, imagine my shock, they’ve kicked homeless vets out of the rooms that were being provided for them in place of the fence jumpers because they can get $100 more a night from the government or from us because the government doesn’t have any money. The money they have is ours and they’re killing us with it.

It depens where you live ,city centers in Montréal, Ottawa...are hugely expansive like any western city centers ,Paris,N York...Not sure why this is a surprise. If you live in the country side its quite cheap .

Vancouver does have 2 languages. English and Chinese , I live in Alberta and I have to say I love it, you are right the cities etc here are isolated that is because the country is so huge . I enjoy the cold and isolation so each to their own. but I do know what you mean about Europe , a good video lots of good points.

US is even worse. You get no free health insurance and even you pay for health insurance you pay $3000 more per year out of pocket then 20%. More after each visit. When you get your medicine you are shocked to know you pay $500 to $1000s for your medicine. Vacation starts at 2 weeks. 3 bedrooms apartment in the cities are 1million+ and above. Outside city expect to pay 500 to 700k. For Boston and Sanfrancisco is double that. You also just work for 40 hours you work typically 60 to 70 hours per week to afford anything

Having lived in most provinces and visited dozens of cities such a Yellowknife (in December) I love all of them. Though I have a secret passion for Montreal it's by far the most cosmopolitan city in all of Canada. Yes Canada does have winter months where they are most severe in the northern cities. When you add it up it's how the people interact in a friendly manner which is why I feel best in Montreal.

Canada is fine if you have a large home in the high cost of living cities like toronto and vancouver before the pricd hikes in the 2010s.

Immigrated to Canada 15 years ago, and I, too, experienced the problem with Canadian labour experience to get a job in my field even after make some studies here, but in the end, I made it. Finally what made me stay here was not job or making-money opportunities, it was Canadian values, culture, landscapes, less crowded cities, life quality and quietness. I love this country. I like USA to visit though.

I will say in one part: you are very very right. \n\nIn another part, you’re looking for a lifestyle that’s more catered to how you view the world and your wants/needs. \n\nVancouver is gorgeous. And, many cities in Europe (even though they’re historically beautiful) do not compare to Vancouver. It’s different. East Van has a lot of character.\n\nBut you’re a pioneer of pointing out many truths and you won’t be the last guy that talks about it. This hustle, restless culture and sans community in Canada is both sad and also good and motivating to develop into something worthwhile. While in Europe I feel this distaste and misery for anything that has ambition to gather wealth.

As a Canadian who moved to (self-proclaimed world-class Vancouver) 30+ years ago, when it was a gritty, fun, quirky unusual city, I thought it was paradise in Canada. However, as time marched on, I saw the gradual change, the boring glass towers, the shoebox apartments, the closing of most live rock music venues downtown, the end of Indy races in False Creek, the cancelation of Seafest, the unchallenged foreign ownership of both commercial ond mostly empty condos, leading to a severe housing crisis - gridlock and crumbling infrasture. Furthermore, the cost of living and taxation is crippling. The present Gov't (either sides, 1 of the same) has lost all credibility. The media is garbage. Healthcare is subpar period. So, like yourself, I've also spent several years overseas in cities that are soooooo much more beautiful with amazing climates. I also spent as much time outside Vancouver possible during the last 4 years. I haven't changed much personally but wow(!) the rise in narcissism, anger and divisiveness in Vancouver over that period of time is palpable. You nailed it with 'status chasing and diengenuis' - When you leave, then come back you notice this change much more. For those that were trapped here for the last 4 years, I feel for you. I really do.

People sad they can't come in but we have Americans literally destroying whole city blocks in Chicago and Florida. Send the lazy drug induced homeless Americans to those states or send them somewhere else and let these people come in and actually help rebuild this country that anti America rallying Americans are destroying...

As a Canadian citizen who moved to France for better opportunities, I fail to recognize any positive things about Canada and its culture and economy. In 2019 most of my friends were struggling graduates who were working minimum wage jobs and living with roommates. A lot of my friends had suicidal thoughts. I was working like a slave in the oil patch for a measly $30k annually. And all of this to live paycheck to paycheck in a boring city in a crappy flat with cockroaches. And the food and climate sucks. And Canadians are the most introverted people on the planet.

Every decision is driven by avoiding lawsuits, not proper patient care.\n\nPost Obamacare, US health care is an unmitigated disaster at every level. We’re short on doctors, too. Many quit and students are losing interest—medicine won’t pay enough anymore to justify $500K in loans.\n\nWe could repeal every bit of Obamacare tomorrow and still not be able to fix it. The leviathan grew tentacles that released toxins into every nook and cranny of the system. Now that they have buried themselves in critical layers, it would be impossible to yank them out.\n\nI have a good PCP who is booked 6-8 weeks out. Specialists? Hah. GI, neuro, and derm? Surely, in 2023 has caught a cell phone video, right? Where are the videos? Show me the proof. There is plenty of footage of BLM destroying property and injuring, even murdering innocents. If we gripe about this behavior, we are raaayyyycccciiiiissssts.\n\nNo rational adult would claim that the US is not a violent country and becoming more so. Nor can we claim to have eliminated racism. That takes time; it cannot be done by force.\n\nOur economy went from smokin hot to dumpster fire in a short span of time. Pre election, head hunters were shaking the trees to find job candidates.\n\nOur unemployment is up as are our taxes with the stomping out of the tax cuts. \n\nDespite the endless sloganeering about how the Trump tax cuts only benefited “rich” people, it’s quite the opposite.\n\nHigh earners lost their pet deductions and lower income taxpayers were quite pleasantly surprised when they did their returns. The cuts were targeted to preserve wealth for the middle and lower classes.\n\nI could go on for another 100 pages but you get the idea and I get crabby writing for free.\n\nI will leave you with the caution that it’s best if you doubt and question any data and any stats coming from our government. Those are seldom legit. If the data comes from a study, always look to see who paid for it. And how large the sample size was; how were the participants selected?
