Moved to New Brunswick from Ontario 6 years ago and no regrets! I have 10 times more here than I did living in the GTA. Way more affordable and my wife and I always find something to do. So many scenic places and lots of places to shop. Malaysia here. I been to Copenhagen; within 24 hours of arrival I was phoning up all airlines to change my return flight to any part of Asia, incl. BKK, HK, Taipei, Seoul, Spore, Kuala Lumpur immediately. I have been to a few countries incl. USA; to those of you who fantasize abt the west, enjoy your fantasy. As for me, I have absolutely no intention of ever going to any western nations ever again in this lifetime. My eyes are on CHINA. China is wonderfully gorgeous, perfect and affordable and it's very well governed. More than any nation on earth.

i am so thankful my parents held onto our townhouse in vancouver;\n\nfor anyone that isnt familiar with it, my dad bought a townhouse in the 1990's on west 7th avenue (practically downtown vancouver) for around 500k. even when we moved away, he kept it as a rental property just for some extra cash (back in the early 00's they probably went for 2300ish)\nhe past away recently, and gave me and my fiance the townhouse (it was worth roughly 1m when he died, and this was with minimal reno's/fixes) we just did an entire renovation top to bottom, we got it appraised at 3.5-3.75, maybe even 4 million if we wanted.\n\nof course we won't sell, it has incredible views & is close to everything. but i am so thankful we don't have to worry about if we can ever afford to live in a city i've called home for my entire life

Africa is perceived to give higher social life. The truth is that our social life is derived from poor economic status. Good example, let's take Nairobi leafy suburbs or any other city. In such areas residents tend to mind their own issues hence they remain indoors of workplace. But areas with lower economics status. The residents share almost all the facilities.. what will you do indoors when you have no electricity? How will you pay for delivery services while you can not afford the food? They have communal water area. People sell their commodities anywhere even on road reserves, no designated play area hence children have to play by the roads. When the system will work properly we will experience that kind of western social life.Next time give a realistic comparison.

Did you really put Quebec first?? I'm shocked. I lived here my entire life and being taxed 15% on everything and high income tax makes living here NOT affordable. I was born in Manitoba and lived here for 28 years. While the negative aspects pointed out in the video are true, hardly any of the positives of living here were touched on. Yes, we do have a month or two where you can hardly spend time outside but during the winter there are beautiful sunny days often and plenty of +25-+30 days all summer long. Manitoba has an incredible amount of festivals during the summer all across Winnipeg and small towns. We have a thriving underground EDM scene where young people explore various forms of art, dance, costrumes, and musical genres every weekend nowadays. There are many interesting cultures present here including Mennonite and Hutterite communities which are some of the most generous small town folk. We have tons of local farms which people can buy affordable organic food from. Manitobans on average are friendly people and strangers will often strike up a conversation or help get your car unstuck on a wintery day. I have travelled around Canada but I do feel like Manitoba carries a unique sense of community that other places might not have.

I have read about the possible immigration pathways but most of those are for those with a lot of money.. Honestly, as a Canadian living in Vancouver which is the most expensive city in Canada, I can barely afford to pay for my monthly home mortgage in addition to the monthly condo fee, buy my weekly groceries, put gas in my vehicle at this time of hyper-inflation. I really don't want my income tax, consumption taxes (GST and PST which is a tax on tax), carbon tax, and property tax collected by the various levels of governments from me so that my hard earned money would be squandered on these Uranian refugees. I don't owe any of them a living. The news media said there would be tens of thousands of them wanting to settle in Vancouver. If these refugees are entitled to government benefits after they arrive, then so should I! Where are we housing these refugees when we can't even house the homeless people in East Hastings?

Dont think Ukrainians need any more special treatment, they are already getting special treatment by opening new pathways specific to them. If they cant afford Canada, be a refugee in another country. Just like immigrants, if you cannot afford Canada go to another country.

We tried to move to Ottawa but we couldn’t leave Quebec. It’s our home and we got homesick fast. Montreal is a fun city and the restaurants are the best. Sure the taxes are high but we have great affordable daycare systems, great restaurants and overall great homes. All of Canada is great my heart will always be in Quebec

Are you kidding? I live in Montreal, quebec and oh boy you are wrong about the rent. Its not affordable at all .. montreal is really expensive and many people are getting out of montreal , especially quebecor and they go in regions where its less expensive. But i don't really like montreal , but quebec in general is really amazing to live in. Great jobs opportunities, great school system, great food, healthcare however should improve more, but its fine for the most part. Quebec is an amazing province. Come and live here!!

Not sure how Ontario made it to #4. Here's a realistic description: Unaffordable, ugly, boring, overcrowded, very stressful, you need to work 80 hours a week to afford your $8000.00 mortgage or rent, worst restaurants, clubs, shopping and entertainment, crime is shooting through the roof, a developers dream so little urban or suburban green space. Yes, anything in northern Ontario is nice but it's quickly all becoming a hot mess. People are nasty, really really nasty and only care about their own lives, cars and houses...one huge competition to the finish line here. We just bought our retirement house in NB because we decided there is no way we want to retire in Ontario!

The cost of living in Vancouver is ridiculous. We have a household income that places us in the top 5% yet even though we live frugally we can only afford to buy an apartment. On the same wage in the states or Australia we would be in a mansion and living like kings

I've lived 2 years in Toronto. Plusses, it's all there, sports, theatre, music, amazing restaurants. Negatives I found the people difficult to get to know, I usually felt I wasn't breathing fast enough, and no mountains. I've lived 10 years in Calgary. Plusses, people are incredibly open and friendly, mountains, energetic without being frenetic, affordable. Minuses, very cyclic economy, everything always under construction with little sense of history or culture. I was born and raised in Victoria and returned here 34 years ago. Plusses, ocean and mountains, sense of history, laid back and friendly, amazing climate. Minuses, completely unaffordable (if I hadn't bought my house over 30 years ago I couldn't afford it today). Enjoyed them all but wouldn't voluntarily leave Victoria.

Lucky those who can afford going back to their home country. Not everyone has that luxury

I actually don't object , particularly, to my high taxes in Canada. I do object to the fact that it took me , 15 extra working years to achieve a reasonable income due to the cost of an education being beyond my reach. Now that I have a reasonable income, I find those high taxes spent poorly. Dental care and extended medical or medications? Not covered.\n\nSo where do these high taxes go? Comparing my tax rate to the functional half of Europe's countries, it's about the same, more or less. \n\nBut they have better health care, affordable education and housing.\n\nAnd as others have pointed out, despite living in the biggest city, it's still relatively boring to many of the Major cities I've stayed in globally.\n\nI recommend Canada to immigrants who would enjoy a Rural or Suburban lifestyle that still has access to amenities and infrastructure. There are more opportunities in some ways, and the costs of living are much more affordable. But if you are interested in an urban life with what that has come to mean globally, the best Canadian cities can offer you is 'diverse restaurant options'.

The best advice I can give a prospective immigrant is to have a job offer in Canada before you consider immigrating. If you are coming to study then look at a what jobs you could do in Canada when you graduate and whether you know enough English and French to study here.\n\nCanada does not encourage unskilled immigrants to come to the country. However there's a lot of trades like construction that are looking for workers. If you can do industrial welding for example, you can get a job right now.\n\nThe final thing to consider is whether you are willing to live in a smaller town or even rural area as that's where the growth in jobs are and where housing is more affordable. \n\nTaxes are higher but not higher than some Scandinavian countries. In the USA you have to pay for private insurance which can be about $1500/ month for a small family.

Not sure where you ladies migrated from but the healthcare in Canada is terrible for a country that calls itself wealthy! What is more important in life than health and getting timely access to services. I have had to wait 6 months for a simple ultrasound, my friends had to wait a year for an MRI, more than a year to see a specialist of any kind. Not only that the administration procedures are backward where they send an appointment letter by Canada Post (not kidding). \nTaxes are extremely high! I know doctors who make decent money pay close to 55% of their salary in taxes. Housing in Toronto and Vancouver is sky high and you may be working all your life to afford a 2BR condo. \nMy advice is unless you are coming from a country that is down right terrible (Eastern European, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc.), it is better to stay home. Additionally, if you think you will ever get rich in Canada, then you must get your head examined by a neurologist first.

Canadian's are losing everything. Immigration needs to end. This country can't afford to provide for more immigrants. As lifelong Canadian. I can't pay more taxes to provide for people that are going to draw down our standard of living. Working for less than the going rate. And eventually take part of my Canada pension. Canada is a land with great resources, great opportunity and potential, but for a place with so much supposedly smart people they do alot of dumb things. Been here 7 years now and I have seen so many issues that have obvious solutions but because of some weird culture or heritage or whatever they just keep doing the same thing until it hurts them. The real estate market is an absolute MESS and everybody knows. Money laundering, realtors colluding to set prices, blind auctions etc you name it. But they are just gonna keep doing the same thing until the country is in a major recession. Then everybody is going to be crying for bailouts. The health system is a MESS. Trying to find a doctor is like finding a needle in a haystack. They have them driving taxis instead, claiming that their qualifications arent as good. Yet they dont have enough doctors or nurses to support anything. Coworkers whose spouses work in those industries let me know they have to be working ridiculous shifts because there are not enough people. The taxes are ridiculous. I work in I.T. and taxes are like roughly half my salary. Many coworkers have told me all the illegal stuff they do to get around the taxes. Which I don't do because I wasn't raised like that. But people get taxed so much everyone is doing some thing to try to bypass it. And if you dont know the tricks or dont want to do them, you just get screwed. People don't talk about real issues here. There is alot of fake positivity and optimism because they dont want people to get sad and suicidal from the really long and harsh winter. I used to wonder why there were so many train delays until some one explained to me that many people commit suicides in winter by stepping in front of the trains. The only thing propping up this country is the constant influx of immigrant slave labour through the college system, (Like a ponzi scheme). But the immigrants are going to stop coming here if they cant even afford to live at all. Even the regular citizens cant afford it. So what will the country do after that, since there is an elderly population and not enough people to support the industries? Right now most of the immigrants come here and save up there money to go somewhere else or back home after they realize what a shitshow it is. I even have coworkers born and raised in Canada who are telling me they want to leave. Canada needs to stop patting itself on the back for doing stupid apologies and stuff like that, and actually do economically sound things to stop digging themselves into this hole. Great potential for this country but I don't know if it will ever be realized.

employment isn't secure in canada they have this system called probation period and most jobs are none governmental jobs , they are private sectors. Also it's expensive no wonder why they have homelessness on the streets and left without homes cause of the cost of living and the high prices of homes I might leave one day too and go somewhere where I don't have to pay taxes, have good life and can afford buying a home.
