It is okay to stop immigration if more babies were born as the average age in Canada is getting older,needs the young ones to come paying taxes to support the healthcare and education benifits,but of course though, more affordable houses needed to be built especially in Vancouver and Toronto as the housing price is already skyrocketed

Frankly, every country has its negatives and positives. Australia is a highly multicultural country and people are respectful of each other. In fact, if you go to outskirts of Sydney in regional NSW or any other state in Australia, people are very warm and friendly. Sometimes, it’s a matter of luck and also your skillset and English language ability. I am an immigrant myself and as a family we have been extremely happy here. The health system is fantastic, which is very important in my opinion. If you are a professional with excellent English abilities, you can get best of high paying jobs. It all depends on individual situations and background. I agree, summers are hot but that’s pretty much only 10-15 days in a year, and I think it’s reasonable compared to living indoors 7-8 months depressed due to severe cold and snow. Be happy wherever you are, stay positive and work hard, the rest will fall in place.

I just wanted to mention one strong opinion and my own and many other NRI experience on Delhi ?? international Airport while doing immigration. Its my very own experience when an immigration officer threw away my Real brother's indian Passport just because there was something missing on immigration form. Me and my brother felt so much insulated. Then i decided to surrender the Indian Passport and get the Canadian passport just bcz they were treated well by officers. Im very much surprised to see the all of sudden patriotism of indians. Im sure so many people relate with this humiliation. ???

Been in Canada for approximately 25 years. I can say that the effect that Canada has on a legal immigrant is neither here nor there. Commensurate with earnings, parents under certain thresholds are given Canada child tax benefits and other supplements for each child under 18 years of age. \n \nDepending on the number of kids and their ages, the money can add up handsomely. Not to mention that there’s no tuition to pay for primary and high school students. Tuition fees start at post-secondary level. \n \nTo see a doctor is free as it is paid for by taxes. It the meds that you and/or your insurance pays for. Some medical equipments may be paid for by either or both the individual/insurance and the government depending on eligibility. \n \nBy and large, there’s cleanliness of common spaces. There’s also safety and relative peace. At least wherever I have lived, I can’t tell you how many times I forgot to lock my door with impunity. \n \nThere’s a lot more stressful work here in my opinion, but like you said Lynn, systems work a lot more efficiently and effectively. \n \nThe elephant in the room is the extra hard work that those living abroad must put in to fulfil expectations back home. Also known as black tax, the overwhelming financial dependency of relatives on their diasporan loved ones places undue stress on many here, especially because there are no short cuts to getting money here. \n \nAnyway, Lynn, thanks for such a great topical issue you’ve shared. I have been living in Toronto for more than 2 year now and in addition to their contribution to India, I have huge respect for the Punjabi/ Sikh community in Canada. Despite whatever derogatory comments the locals might have, reality is they are honest and extremely hardworking people. The seva offered to everyone at various Gurudwaras is just so emotionally overwhelming. Unfortunately, there is one section- mostly the international students who have recently arrived seem to be influenced by Punjabi pop music and try to emulate which looks absolutely cringe and stupid. The situation now is their stupidity gets recorded and posted on social media which has resulted in local stereotyping the entire Punjabi/ Sikh population as destructive immigration.

My doctor was educated in India and then came to the U.S. Staying in India for school and immigrating for better paying jobs abroad is a good alternative than getting scammed.

I don't like Toronto. Tired of the rude people and too many immigrants and high rent. It is overcrowded. People push you to get on board the train and refuse to wait for the next train. I would rather work remotely and yes it is not worth living in. Transportation is not as reliable and too many people travelling downtown and back uptown especially during rush hour. If GoTransit breaks down, there aren't that many alternative options to travel. There are many issues including Internet service is not stable. Yes the pay is not enough yet to cover the cost for a place. They want to build more housing in Toronto but it is the worst idea and will make it even more unaffordable. Smaller towns and other cities are better. Bramption also is not a recommended place to move to. Immigration should be recommending people to live in less populated places.

I have been in Canada for more than 20 years. The cost of living is very high. Housing in Toronto is very expensive, it is better in small towns.\n\nThe most important thing is to come here as a skilled worker. The Canadian immigration website has all the information. \n\nLife overall in Canada is not bad. The government really takes care of the people. Schools are free, and so is health care. The unemployment rate is very low. If you want to work, you will get a job.\n\nMy advice especially for those who are doing fairly well in their countries to stay. To survive long time in Canada, one gotta be a criminal or smart person. A smart person plans ahead and avoids putting themseves in situations in which one gotta depend on handouts. I am a Kenyan living in Toronto for 8years now. Most people coming from outside who did enough research on the cost of living and getting work often find success. Having met a few of the Kenyans who were featured in the newsclip (which was totally gaslighting type news) the common theme is that they moved to Canada - first on refugee status, without sufficient research on cost of living, the timeline between their refugee status and getting a work permit to start working and expectations of the kind of jobs they can get as a new immigrant to Canada. I moved here as a student and even with over 10years prior work experience, I had to start from the bottom and worked up. And this happens even to people moving here from UK, Australia etc, its not a bias toward people of color. Things are hard everywhere !!

I watched a similar video some time ago but it was a lady and she made the comparison and she left Australia to Canada, after nearly more than 20 minutes, she states that she could not get the permanent residency in Australia and applied to Canada and got it, so after wasting more than 20 minutes listening to her, she decided to leave Australia to Canada, what a dumb stupid person. That lady did not decide, the decision was made for her. I will not watch this video so not to fall into this trap, people make these videos to get the views and ratings. I will not watch it at all, it is better that you left Australia. Australia wants smart people, as I was an immigrant and now a proud Australian.

I’m in Canada and I would say that’s misinformation. That’s happening in only two provinces Toronto and Vancouver as cost of living has risen. The rest of provinces are affordable and jobs are readily available. High skill requirements is kinda true and lie at the same time. Not all jobs here require high skills. Some jobs just require basic skills and those are the highest jobs available. New immigrants all they need is to get the immigration papers straight and move to affordable provinces to start a life. You don’t have to start a life in Toronto or Vancouver the most expensive provinces. People will always need to immigrate. I can assure you many people that have migrated are more successful than these few mishaps that happens everywhere even back home. Moving to Canada from Kenya is the best decision I have ever made in my life. Canada is one of the best countries you should ever move in.

1. Canada's immigration is primarily skilled labour. Non- skilled labour is imported mostly from the Carribean countries especially Jamaica and you have to leave every year and come back in the next. So, that can be disruptive, but I've met Jamaican's who've been on those programs and done well as well as those who haven't.\n2. If you come to Canada illegally utakipata. Be prepared to hustle for long.\n3. Since Covid everything has become very expensive especially housing. \n4. The videos you've shown of people sleeping outside is because of an increase in the influx of refugees wanting to come to Canada. Refugee shelters are allocated money in the budget for what the Govt estimates will be the number of refugees they'll take in, but there's been an influx lately.\n- A point to note though, ALL refugees Canada received from Ukraine had jobs within 2 months. Why? very skilled labour.\n- Canada's refugee policy is much more lenient than in the US and thus most refugees have been coming to Canada even from the US. The US ones have since been blocked by an agreement signed by both countries.\n5. Are there jobs in Canada? YES, but they require certain skills. The good thing is that once you get one, its the beggining of good fortunes.\n6. If you have skilled qualifications, be prepared to start at a lower level than you are used to and claw your way up. Just don't expect to start where you left off. A Nigerian friend of mine who had performed several surgeries in Nigeria could not be hired until he went back to get certified here in Canada. He has since joined the medical field after going back to school.\n\nAll in all, research, research, research before you make any move.

I live in Edmonton Alberta, Canada my friend who is a Real Estate Agent in Toronto called me last week to ask about the situation in Edmonton with housing because there are lots of immigrants coming to Toronto and there is literally no houses. I came here with no agent, followed the guidelines from the government immigration website, got a visitors visa for 6months, immediately applied for temporary workers visa got it within 45days, upgraded to permanent residency and got it within 60days. Once you breach the guidelines of Canada immigrations don't expect mteremko. The laws here are the most friendliest and yes Canada is made of immigrants. If you can come please do it the right way. I immigrated from Africa to the US then I made my way to Canada 20 years ago. Life has changed from the time we first moved here. Before with 5k Canadian dollars you would put down for a mortgage and get into the housing market. From 2015 when the Liberals came in power housing market has gone downhill for most even those earning middle class income. \n\nIf you desire to come make sure you have the right paper work. If you are coming as a foreign trained professional. You are okay. Otherwise, make sure you have immediate family willing to help you untill you get on your feet. DON'T COME as a visitor without family to ask for refugee status. You will suffer. Most of those stranded in Toronto are those seeking asylum and shelters are full with those who came from newyork when the borders where shut.\n\nOtherwise if you can pay your bills in Africa just stay there, atleast you have morals. Hi Lynn, this is a very interesting conversation. I moved to Canada in 2003 went to college and became a nurse. First of all it was not easy paying for college I was lucky that husband was supporting with the bills as I went to school. So I would say that I have skills that are very marketable. Our combined family income was over $100,000 CAN. We mortgaged our first home which was very basic for a LOT of money. We had our kids and we had to struggle with childcare as most young families do. By North American standard, we were doing good. We each had a good car ( loaned), we made trips to Kenya every so often but in 2016 we decided we wanted to move back home and we sold our home and we did. I HAVE NO REGRETS. There were several things that made us reach our decision. First, I truly believe that for the Canadian system to work as it does, it has to entrap its residents. Even after 10 years of work we did not have money in the bank. Everything we owned really belonged to the bank. The light bulb moment for me came when I evaluated my net worth. A primary school teacher in Kenya after 10 years of work with good financial management will own a plot, a simple house and will start to invest for retirement. After 10 years of work, there wasn't much in the account, our house would need 25 years to finish paying mortgage and to be honest there wasn't much to show for those years of work. Quality of life really sucks the amount of stress will definitely send you to the grave sooner. This is the case for most first generation immigrants. You might say you are sacrificing and building a future for your children but, my observation was since our diaspora children have not grown in Kenya to see the need for money and what life really looks like without the comforts they are used to, they do not have the same drive as the parents so they often do not excel they are just ordinary. There is also the struggle of growing up as a minority group. A lot of our children because they are seeking acceptance will struggle with self esteem, will have depression or will join the LGBTQ community where they get sense of belonging regardless of their colour. The morals are also different from their parents and they are shaped by the society they grow up in. When I looked at what my life would look like if we kept living there, lets say we eventually pay off our mortgage, when we are old and requiring care, our children will not be able to support themselves and support us because they have to work to sustain themselves so we would to move to assisted living or nursing homes. The cost of senior care is not covered by the government unless you have no money. so we have to sell out home which would be old and outdated but still very expensive and we would have to pay $5000-$10000 per month depending on the type of care we need. so as you can see if we ended in a nursing home for 5 years we will have depleted all the money we made from the sale of our home. So by the time we die, we would not have money to leave for our children. So we worked really hard, supported the economy, and die leaving not much at all for our children, we sacrificed our quality of life, and ended up with children who don't think much of themselves or have very distorted morals. I still remember in my mind as we drove to the airport on our way back to Kenya, I thought of the story of Lot. He was pretty successful in Sodom but I'm very sure on his death bed he had lots of regrets why he ever went there. I know its tough being in Kenya but if you have a job or any way to make ends meet, be like Abraham. God will bless you regardless of whether you are in the dessert.

When you immigrate, to get any Govt service like a Driving License, School admission, and even a job, you need a social security/insurance number. That number is pegged on your entry visa. If you are a visitor, you have to convince the Govt why they should let you work? If you are a student, it is limited the number of hours you work. Any employer is obligated to employ only those with credentials. If you are coming for work, like Nurses do, employers will have done your paperwork. Green cards are one legal way to immigrate. If you have legal papers, you make your way around without issues. Cost of living varies on location. As for skills, you need them, get them over time. There are good and bad stories, even locals who mess up end up in crap like an illegal immigrant would.

I just think there is alot of problems where kenyans are concerned\n\n1. Rely on fake agents and their short cuts. There are accredited agents from developed countries who source in africa and asia but not the other way round. These are sometimes listed on official government websites. \n\n2. Don't fully undertand skills. They think acdemic papers and some random corporate jobs equals skills. Lets call skills, trades and ICT expertise; carpenters, plumbers, nurses, teachers have a better chance than some bank manager in Kenya. \n\n3. Rely too much on youtubers with random clips on things they need to train in like nursings and such over a short period then land in Canada and get a job. It doesn't work like that. First of all, has canada said they need Kenyan nurses? Immigration in developed countries is based on policy. So even when they give visas, they know what they are doing and who they are letting in and for what jobs. \n\n4. Do not go to official government websites to confirm random research and advice\n\n5. Are still dishonest and think it's about trickery and knowing people. Well, not always. At least be able ans willing to yo flip burgers and clean toilets if it comes to that!?\n\n6. There is no affordable housing in developed countries. They too are struggling on that front.\n\n7. Am a kenyan Canadian and living in canada is the best decision I have ever taken. Lot of kenyan are paying agencies to come to canada through visit permit. People should blame agencies who promise them jobs not canada government . When you come to canada through visit permit you need to change to work permit or study permit. Actually there are thousands of kenyan who have come through visit permit and they are claiming refugee status. Canadian Government is doing its part by giving all claimed refugees shelter and give the money for upkeep. When you have visit permit you can't work in canada but you can convert it to work permit which is not easy but an expensive process. You need to get a company that can process you lMIA that labour market Impact assessment . You need skills to get a company to apply you Lmia or uende China ya maji you pay Indians who have companies in kenya $30-$40 to apply for you lmia. Or you can convert your visit permit to study permit and universities here are damn expensive. Getting a Canadian to marry you for status is very hard. In short am trying to say if you do not come through work permit or landed immigrants life wil be tough use the money you are paying agencies to start something in your country. They are so many opportunities in canada if you have the right papers or status. As for me am a happy single mom who as accomplished alot here and I love canada .

Lynn, this is a great conversation which really needs to be discussed. In terms of moving abroad for work its something that some individuals are fortunate to get opportunities while others struggle. I have actually assisited individuals especially graduates in gaining internships and jobs with the contacts I had. Many went on to do well, but unfortunately some did not make it. When it comes to immigration, its a case by case basis you can never truly know how things will play out.

Can someone explain how the city is broke if they imported 400,000 newcomers on a year? What is the purpose of these immigrants if not to enrich our country? I left Canada for South Florida in '95. I did it for various reasons, the major one being that I got tired of the long winters and overcast days. I love Canada and visit often but for my lifestyle and goals it wasn't a good fit for me. I immigrated to the U.S. legally and it took a lot of time and money to get my citizenship but it was worth it. No city or country is perfect but some will be better for you than others.

They need to stop calling it a “housing crisis” and start regulating real estate to the degree that people can afford to live indoors. It is really a domestic humanitarian crisis. \nAnd I am confounded about what they expect immigrants to do when they get to Canada or the US in this situation. \nThis type of government negligence is rife in the the west today. I hope we can look past party affiliation and focus on policies that make sense for everyone.

The truth is, it's too expensive to do business in Canada and we're not making use of the incredible talent we have here (largely due to the government). As mentioned in the video, we need high capital investments to get businesses up and running. We have so many investment firms like Canada Pension Plan, Ontario Teacher's Pension that have billions but they're choosing to invest in businesses abroad because government regulations are not supportive - that's why so many move to the states. US is far better for individuals who wants to grow and work on themselves. I lived in US for 2 years and I got the best education learned a lot and met one of the most ambitious people. I always was motivated to do more. US boosted my education and career. Unfortunately I couldn’t stay there due to immigration issues. I moved to Canada and I am here for almost 5 years now and I am still struggling just to make ends meet. Every day I am looking for ways to get out of here back to US or elsewhere. Legalization of drugs, prohibitably expensive housing, poor access to health care, lack of availability of well paying jobs, massive intake of immigrants, overtaxation and fewer businesses opportunities. Canada was great place to live back in 1990s and early 2000s. Everything is going downhill after 2018. Immediately they need to fix immigration, taxation, healthcare, housing, drugs, and support small businesses.Else, Canada will continue to be the place of broken dreams.

Go to a Scandinavian country and see how you'll be treated there. Smh. There is a huge Nigerian community in Ontario and other parts of Ontario. I can confirm that there's really nothing in Canada. They have no jobs and the Jobs they give to Black Immigrants in particular, whether you have a degree or not, are generally seasonal summer jobs in warehouses, working with plastic injection molding machines. The homeless situation is man made created by Liberals. They opened boarder to the every one from across the world specially from African countries who flew their country for crimes.. I was just in Ontario and Quebec, last month with my 13 year old daughter. We talked with many native Canadians during our travels. \n\nThe common theme was too much immigration, without letting the natives feel comfortable about it, or giving time for the immigrants to assimilate. Besides cultural concerns, it really hurts schools, hospitals, and the cost of living. \n\nIt doesn’t appear that Trudeau has much concern for Canadians. I heard a lot of anger directed at him. Especially from eastern Indian immigrants—they were very upset about the forced inoculations. \n\nCanada was very much different than it was just a few short years ago. It’s very sad to see.
