As President-elect Trump weighs up the tariffs he has promised to impose, it is important to understand who will pay them.
\n
\nThere is a popular misconception that when a country imposes tariffs on imported goods, it is punishing a foreign government or foreign firms. This is not a mistake made by economists. The tariff is paid at point of entry, and much of it goes to the government that imposed it. It is paid by the importer, a probable wholesaler, who passes it on in the form of higher prices for his or her customers.

?? America needs to impose tariffs on Mexico!!! I’m 1000% for it. It cost way more to pay for illegals once they’re here. They haven’t done anything to stop the flow of illegals. ❤ Straight Arrow News, no censorship like other media.

If Mexico wants to impose tariff on Mexican products them Mexico should impose any tariff on products coming from South Countries Countries, and eventually, the smart Trump supporters will pay more, but still will be ok with them !

Trump didn't make mistake on imposing high tariff on some countries because Americans are big consumers of those countries products in high quantity and they too knows that Trump is right and the fact is they prefer US as their main costumer.

So Mexico & other countries like China can/have impose massive tariffs on the U.S. but we're not allowed to do the same?

The slogan “Make America Great Again” is very nostalgic, but times are different. If the US imposes these tariffs, it will be to the benefit of China. When American products were undoubtedly superior to the rest of the world, imposing tariffs did not work in the 1970s. Today, it would become less competitive, there is very strong international competition and Chinese products would benefit. To make America great again, we must look to the future, not the past.

Americans don't want to pay higher prices for anything. And corporations don't want to pay $15 when they can pay $2 to a worker overseas. Manufacturing is not coming back the the US no matter the tariffs Trump imposes. America has to concentrate on the manufacturing that we lead which is High Technologies, Fuel, and Agriculture. Trump wants to destroy the Department of Education when what we should be doing is making education a priority, even in higher education. Making it easier and less expensive for Americans to get higher education. Trump's policies are going to completely destroy the world economy and in doing so cause a massive recession in the US.

They do not come to the US because it is safe. The US has probably become unsafe because of them. Impose tariffs on goods coming from foreign countries. Learn your lesson about China.

The problem of those tariffs also imposed on the Chinese car market is for the benefit of his great friend Elon Musk since then he would not have competition and not to help the citizen

In 1930 American politicians decided to significantly increase tariffs \nand 25 other countries immediately responded by imposing significant tariffs\non American products and the trade war made the depression significantly worse.\n\nTrump's trade war won't likely lead to a depression but it will make things \nworse for almost everyone.\n\nExpect higher inflation, economic stagnation and also economic disruption \nas American companies can't suddenly and magically create new production \nto replace imports and can't do it as cheaply or they would already have been doing that\nand American exporters are going to face tariffs and sanctions imposed \non their products by other countries.\n\nThe extremely integrated car manufacturing industries in the United States, Canada and Mexico could be thrown into chaos.\nAn average car part crosses a border about 8 times during production.\nHow the heck do high tariffs deal with that standard car production situation?\n\nTrump would know all this if he thought about history or\nabout how the North American economy works or thought at all\nbut thinking is not something that appeals to Trump.\nInstead he just spouts out whatever random idea pops into his head \nand calls it policy.

Mexico has been imposing tariffs on Americans, and Mexican’s, for taking their cars over there for a long time. \n\nYou have to pay for a permit, along with a hefty deposit (depending on the vehicle year), to cross your vehicle into Mexico. You can cross into the border towns, but if you want to drive further in, you have to pay. \n\nThis is done to eliminate competition, instead of letting the market dictate the pricing. And if you don’t return your permit, you don’t get your deposit back and lose the ability to cross any vehicles for life. No, how is that fair?!\n\nAnd you STILL see Mexican nationals buying vehicles here, and just paying the hefty tariffs, just to legalize their American vehicles in Mexico. \n\nWe can just start there, and do the same thing to them. I don’t think they’d like that one bit.

God I hope Trump goes ahead and imposes all those tariffs. Unfortunately, that’s the only way those idiots will learn that Trump only cares about him and his billionaire friends.

Canada should also impose their own tariffs on American goods and services, and restrict access for Americans to cross the Border for work or trade or tourism. See how long those American Tariffs will last.
|

this is literally just a negotiating tactic of imposing tariffs to get the border countries to stop the flow of immigration and drugs/cartel gang activity from there own side and for them to pay for it with there own money while we do what is needed on our side of border and then there will be no tariffs imposed on Mexico or Canada if you can't see this then you shouldn't be concerning yourself with politics or business as it will be too much for you to understand

Mexico should begin restricting US Citizens access to Mexico, and Mexican Workers crossing the Border to engage in work in the US. See how long America will impose tariffs when they can't get labor for their companies that depend on the cross border workers to do their business. And American Tourists can't engage in their trips to Cancun etc,

The biggest junky in the world isn't going to get weaned off drugs by imposing tariffs.

The U.S. will learn a lesson soon, You cannot impose tariff on all products coming from Mexico without hurting your economy. The U.S. citizens will pay that decision without a doubt. Trump has no idea of how an economy works. In my opinion he should resign as a president even before he takes oath on January 2025. He should be put in a mentally psychiatric institute at least for 4 years until he learns his lesson.

Will he impose tariffs on Trump ties, made in China?

Tariffs are historically a horrible tax. But since Trump is imposing them it will be the best tariff tax ever.

Bravo to the Mexico's President. Canada's Prime Minister made similar statements. Plus he said Canada is concerned about the large number of illegal guns entering from the USA. He also said they would impose tariffs on the goods coming into Canada from the USA. Note Canada exports the following to the USA so imagine how a 25% tariff would increase the price of: Canada's main exports to the United States are:\n- Mineral fuels, oils, and distillation products: In 2023, this was the top export, valued at $128.51 billion\n-Vehicles other than railway, tramway: In 2023, this was valued at $58.21 billion\n-Machinery, nuclear reactors, and boilers: In 2023, this was valued at $33.75 billion \n- Other exports from Canada to the United States include: Baked goods, Canola oil, Beef and pork, Chocolate, and Frozen fries and other prepared potatoes

Sheinbaum also noted that Mexico has taken significant steps to stem the flow of migrants at the border, saying, “Caravans of migrants no longer reach the border.”
\n
\nTrump said on Monday that he will enact tariffs of 25 percent on all Canadian and Mexican goods, and add another 10 percent tariff to all Chinese goods — many of which are already under tariffs imposed by Trump during his first term.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum threatened to retaliate with her own tariffs against the United States, after President-elect Trump suggested he would impose a 25 percent tax on imported goods from Mexico if her country did not stop the flow of drugs across the border.
\n
\nIn remarks on Tuesday, Sheinbaum said that drugs were a U.S. problem, not a Mexican problem, and suggested they could harm U.S. automakers with plants on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump will say China was scared of tariffs and never impose them. Then he will say the illegals left on their own so he doesn’t have to deport them. You know promises made promises kept. Then he will do nothing with health care and just rename it Trump care.

Your money grubbing Republican owners should have done way more informing the public about the deranged lunatic and the tariffs he plans to impose maybe BEFORE the election.\nMainstream media are nothing but a bunch of complete 100% azzes.

It was announced today on the news that the Trump initiative to deport all illegal immigrants will cost up to $1 trillion dollars. That’s a lot of moolah. Which will come out of our taxes. And the tariffs that he went on and on about. Companies aren’t giving out bonuses to workers for end of year. Because they have to save money now because Trump will impose tariffs on incoming goods. The workers didn’t understand they assumed the cost would be paid by importers. In reality, it will trickled down to American consumers who have to pay for goods. Economists have been saying during the election this is a bad idea.Trump tried to do it the last time he was in office and it didn’t work. So people be aware you think you can’t afford things now wait you won’t be able to afford anything. PS the government has nothing to do with price gouging for food and they don’t set the price for gasoline or electricity, etc. ????

terrible policy to increase tarrifs, instead of focusing on incentivising local manufacturers to be more efficient. There is not free marketplace. If we are imposing these tarrifs on them, they will impose tariffs on Canadian exporters. At the end of the day the consumer will suffer with higher prices in both markets.
