Retaliation tariffs. That's a ridiculous idea. You don't win a tariff war when you're the country that has a trade surplus. In 2023, Canada imported approximately $431.2 billion worth of goods from the United States, while the United States imported approximately $354.3 billion worth of goods from Canada. That's going to hurt Canada a whole lot more than it'll hurt us.

Canada should not respond with tariffs. That will just increase prices for Canadians. They should look for other markets.\nTrump promised to lower prices. This is a direct move to increase them! Trump and his millionaires won't be hurt by this. Only the millions of regular people that voted for him will suffer. This is a perfect example of how politicians go to war and the citizens pay with their blood. ?

Canada and Mexico can make sure their borders are secure but instead they want a tariff war with the US

DW comes from Germany, so don't expect fair reporting. However, this is so simple to understand. We buy from them much more than they buy from us. What it means, is that they can't tariff us as much as we can tariff them. The ´war´is lost before it began. They simply can't win it. I don't think the average viewer knows why the US is doing this. The only thing I can see is auto sales are slumping and maybe they can blame this on the tariff policy for massive restructuring. \n\nI kind of understand wanting to negotiate with Mexico because they probably buy less American goods than Americans buy Mexican goods (drugs excluding) but I’m guessing Canada is a better customer of American goods than Americans are of Canadian goods. Why would you want to upset a good partner, customer, and ally!? It’s Beyond my comprehension…. If Trump was really smart he’d convince some factories to actually invest in Mexico with cooperation from the Mexican government investing in efficient transportation from the manufacturing sectors to the American border and the coasts for distribution. This would likely really help their economy and change the whole dynamic of all the things Trump has issues with. Fix it at the source not try to treat the symptoms.

Nobody wins tariff wars, the consumers always lose

Trump started the trade war to redirect the attention from the aviation tragedies that he caused to the tariffs. \nPlease do not forget to keep the finger on the first killings of his second term. \nInformation about his role in the tragedies was coming out ,when he suddenly initiated the trade war.

Both Mexico and Canada have fallen into Trumps trap, if you do not see it, let me explain. Trump has been pushing for more manufacturing at home, for more oil drilling and for more rare minerals mining. He can impose those tariffs and either Canada and Mexico agree, or the do exactly what they just did, think they can win a economic war with the United States. See, Trump gets what he wants either way, they don't cooperate, Trump gives huge tax incentives to companies to start producing here in the U.S. which will in turn reduce the price of everything for Americans, see, if you produce it here instead of overseas, Canada or Mexico, we can pish for a huge increase in overall production reducing the costs to consumers, since the products no longer have to be imported. Like i said, sometimes i don't think the left has any brains left.

Back in 2016, Trump introduced 25% tariffs on China 301-classification imports that severely damaged my business. For whatever reason, he then exempted the tariffs, but the public still assumed that they were in place. It was a perfect Trump win-win move to make the voters think that he was acting tough, while actually exempting the tariffs for us importers. Unfortunately, Biden got into office and immediately took away the exemptions and screwed us. I mention all of this in order to exemplify how nothing is as it seems when it comes to Trump. Sometimes you have to let this stuff play out before overreacting. I think that Canada made a mistake by overreacting so quickly. This will force Trump's hand to pursue the trade war, even if it was not his actual intention.

And this may just be the beginning of a sprawling trade war, but make no mistake, Canada is not for sale, and Canada, despite its soft spoken nature, is determined to keep going on its own way. We have free trade with the EU and Pacific nations. For any US companies who find themselves caught up in tariffs for their export markets, consider setting up your export shop here, to keep your Canadian customers, and continue to have access to European and Asian markets under free trade agreements that are respected, and operate independently of any decision made by President Trump. Businesses need predictability and stability, and your neighbors to the north can provide that to all of your export markets.

The regular people will suffer. Canada and Mexico will suffer more. The US economy is very big and dynamic. It will absorb tariffs. Trump's foreign policy is going to be very predatory. America needs to include tariffs on companies that outsource jobs to countries like India and the Philippines. Healthcare policies should be revisited to better serve American citizens. Taxpayer money should focus on domestic priorities rather than being sent abroad. Strengthening U.S. borders with a permanent military or National Guard presence is essential for national security. Additionally, we must reassess our involvement in endless foreign wars and critically examine the underlying dynamics of global control, power and wealth influence by Israel real agenda!

PREDICTION: The rise of international tariffs will ultimately uncover a huge underbelly of unemployment ironically in the USA and create a wave of an unexpected underbelly of poverty unseen by America in many years. Medical aid will only benefit the rich while everyone else will pay for minimum service but premium for medication. \n\nThe price of food and transport will quadruple over the next 4 years, not because of the natural progression of price rise, but immediately due to tariff wars. \n\nAmericans, ultimately pay for tariffs - bullying words of 50 percent tariffs on another country means a surge in prices for everyday goods Americans take for granted. The only winner is the Government - which means it chooses what to spend on. \n\nA recession will hit hard....AGAIN -- on the USA.

The two flights to Mexico that got turned away carried less than 100 migrants cost US taxpayers $900,000! CNN might want to mention that. Drumpf used expensive military jets because he just couldn't wait for CBP jets (because he wanted a photo shoot!). He should have to pay for the extra cost out of his pocket, not ours. Trump's tariffs will hurt America. Columbia's will probably hurt Columbia, too. That's why it's called a trade war. It's a conflict of economic attrition. Fun fact: Columbia is where we get a major chunk of our coffee from, so now our coffee, our fuel for working Americans will get more expensive if this is a prolonged tariff!
