I've never been prouder of my Mother for holding onto her Canadian citizenship even though she's lived in America since she was 10.

Even when leaders of other countries speak “harshly” which I think is really just speaking directly, but the leaders I’ve heard in their harsh’s tones, never speak the despicable language that Trump uses with his derogatory, name-calling and vicious, lashing out that he does he never pauses, take a deep breath and can consider the 2% of truth his adversaries are speaking of he simply can’t negotiate or compromise or even listen for God sake. He’s only a few years older than me. We have learned by this age to shut our mouths and listen sometimes, but not him. No, he has not learned that lesson. He has not learned to listen to others and to care for others.

To our friends around the world we appreciate and love your kind words of support. We also open our doors and wallets to trade! We got lots to offer and keen to welcome new friends and expand our relations beyond the ease of our next door neighbours. We love them but they’ve hopefully temporarily lost their minds. We hope they come to their senses but in the meantime- let’s build some bridges and get back to making the world a better place for everyone! Maple syrup, apples, blueberries, potatoes and rye whiskey for all- let a new era of international prosperity begin!

Superb speech. And a clear casus belli for Trump. If the US economy is down significantly, he'll blame Canada, arguing that you've put unfair tariffs on the US with the specific purpose of hurting them (which is undeniable!) and it's Anschluss time, baby. Never underestimate how crazy he is.

I've always respected Canada as a intelligent, polite but tough as nails country. I have not and will not forget how you helped liberate my grandparents by spearheading into their German-occupied country and for providing refuge for their royal family. I can only hope that the special relations between Canada and the EU will become warmer instead of colder like the direction that has been chosen by the US.

As a Canadian I've sold off all investments that have US holdings and I hope others do so as well and switch to Canadian, European or Asian companies.

I’ve been operating an import export business for 25 years throughout the entire time It has always been more expensive to clear goods from Canada into the USA than the other way around. Meaning there was already a trade barrier in effect to Canada’s detriment. This is just insult to injury. I wish the White House looked at the facts on the ground rather than fantasy. These tariffs are unnecessary.
