My favourite thing about this is that its going to really piss Trump off.

Nice to hear an intelligent speech. Why destroy relationships with your closest allies and then cuddle up to Putin and Russia? The only thing that makes sense is that Trump wants to make the USA like Russia. An oligarchy where the ultra-rich have all the money and control, and everyone else is poor and powerless.

Dude Its a shame you stepped down. Because you are one Awesome leader. I would rather be #Canadian Right now Than an American. I have found that being an American is not what I hoped it might be. I have been to Canada. Its a wonderful Beautiful nation and its people are some of the coolest in the world. I live so Close to Canada I am sorry We are doing this to you. and the Great Canadian's. Trumps first term was a nightmare. This Term is horrifying. And its killing people. Soon there will be Farms/Camps. Then worse things will come. In Advance There are those of us who are sorry now. The reason for this is Trump wants industry back in the US, and as long as people buy things from outside of the US cheaper, that's not going to happen. Thus the tariffs. That's what they're for, protectionism. Why he pretends it won't be bad for americans or that they won't be paying more for products, I don't know. Perhaps his way of preparing people for bad times. Or the wishful thinking bit he swears to. Whatever. But what sane person would build up an industry predicated on Trump being consistent and willing to stay the course? An industry that would fall apart like it's 1920 the moment tariffs end? I predict noone.\n\nI have some experience with Clark, he was an insightful man during his command in Europe. It should be concerning when he can't see a reason for these actions, for cozying up to Putin and alienating allies. There's no end goal here that is in the US' interest. Trump's cabinet is not interested in this sort of thing, they are domestic dilettantes. There is no 4D chess. So what is the deal? Is it just his anger at Zelensky for not investigating Hunter Biden during the election? It seems... a bit too much for that, despite Trump being known as extremely spiteful.

I don't even think the people who voted for Donald Trump wanted these tariffs against the rest of the world either....I really don't understand the sense behind it because this is not going to make America greater.... But I'll tell you what, he may be shocked and sadly mistaken when he finds out that it might just backfire ...this is a very conceited attempt to get the type of economic condition that he envisions for his new Dictatorship over America....he has alienated United States from its allies in Europe as well as its allies here at home.... This is probably about as dumb as his treatment of Volodimir Zelensky that just transpired on Friday at the oval office...and that idiot Vance is the one actually that has started that little debacle....I don't know man I thought these guys had more sense than to do this kind of shit.... But see this kind of situation is not going to affect him or his billionaire buddies because they have so much money they can cushion themselves until the cows come home....these assholes don't have nothing to worry about except the American people finding an emergency way of getting his ass out of office unless he changes course on all of this... I don't know if he can be impeached or not... But it might be a smart thing to find out if it IS possible.... AND EVEN IF IT IS WE STILL HAVE HIS SITTING REPLACEMENTS STILL IN OFFICE AS WELL SO I DON'T SEE THIS GOING AWAY WITHIN THE NEXT 4 YEARS UNLESS HE COMES BACK TO HIS SENSES, AND POSSIBLY GOES TO A DOCTOR AND HAVE HIS HEAD CHECKED....\nDTheMadkat123\nFrom a borrowed phone \n....the only thing I really do support that he is doing is securing the border and dealing with immigration issues here.... That's it that's all I was hoping that he would really focus on being in the oval office, and possibly standing by Ukraine, and Israel during these evil days.... Buddying up to Putin is like the single most insane thing that has come from this as well..I just hope and pray that he comes back to his senses and backtracks on all of this shit.... Besides I like Canada House whiskey, and Canada Dry Ginger ale, and other products from Canada.... People need to understand that the damage and fallout that will certainly come from all of the things that Donald Trump is doing is intentional. \nTrump's efforts to weaken NATO, destroying our relationships with our long-standing Western European allies, creating friction and distrust with our border countries of Canada and Mexico, taking a wrecking ball to all of our governmental institutions that hold this country together, sowing a lot of hatred and distrust among American citizens along racial and ethnic lines, using tariffs to destroy the American economy, efforts to cause Americans to lose trust in our courts, justice and Healthcare systems, trying to Villianize Zelensky of Ukraine while praising the dictator from Russia, is all part of a plan to weaken or maybe even destroy our country and to allow Russia to rise.\nIt is painfully obvious that Donald Trump is an agent for Vladimir Putin and Russia against the United States, Ukraine and the democracies of Europe. \nDonald Trump is a traitor! The Republicans in Congress need to do their jobs and remove him from office ASAP!

I will still buy Canadian products. If I can pay more for eggs, I can buy the wonderful produce and other products from Canada. This really is a dumb thing Trump has done. I hope something happens to undo what has happened.

So people in the administration says that if Canada actually decreases the amount of Fentanyl coming across the border things may change? Last year 19 kg were seized at the Canadian border, if they decrease that to 15, will that be enough? It’s such massive bullshit an nothing about it makes sense. I live in Maine on the border with Canada and im absolutely ashamed at what trump is doing. Canada is an incredible country and a great ally to the US, and this entire thing that trump is doing is reprehensible. It would be an improvement to have a leader like Trudeau who can actually get a point across.

I don’t think Trump would approve this speech because when he mentioned about “the big things” they accomplished together, he should have instead said “biggest things ever than any other big things in history”

The problem is that Canada enjoys American friendship as long as it is costing America hundreds of billions of dollars. Trump simply wants a fair playing field. Why must America always take the short end of the stick. The moment we get a government that ask for things to be fair all these countries that have benefited rush to complain.

As an American, I really liked Trudeau's speech. I thought he did a great job explaining everything and responding to this situation. I appreciate his words to the American people. There's just one thing he said that was inaccurate... trump is NOT a smart guy!!

I’m not a fan of Trudeau but he speaks in a calm rational manner. He is polite but firm. I’m an American and although I agree with some of Trumps ideas, being rude and not thinking things through before acting, is inexcusable. We have enemies all over the world and now we have even turned our friends against us. The drug problem is an American problem, not Canada or Mexico. We can’t keep guns from entering Mexico, arming the cartels, how can we expect the Mexican government to keep drugs out of America?

The thing is Trump will start directing sales to Russia. It’s the only logical outcome unless Trump wants to walk back his tariffs. Gonna call it now, he’s gonna lift the trade ban with Russia and direct American goods there.

This has nothing to do with Canada or the Canadian people. This is a pure transactional move because that is how Trump sees things. He needs the money to finance his agenda and he has been told that the money does not exist in terms of what the US Congress can provide. They won't cut military spending and they wouldn't dare touch SS or Medicare. Therefore, Trump is resorting to the only available option which is to have the American people pay for it all and that is what he is doing with these tariffs. He doesn't need to worry about reelection so he couldn't care less how much pain he is inflicting on the very people who voted for him. Elections have consequences.
