This wouldn't be so hard on Canada had we not put all our eggs in one basket. Then there is Trudeau red tape & green energy thinking & policies that prevent trade with Europe & other Countries.

They have been putting our corporations out of business that compete with them here by giving those Canada companies subsidies so they can sell their materials cheaper than ours. It’s really crazy how people were so happy to pay more money for everything when Biden’s people manipulated us to think it was important to support Ukraine’s war and that was why prices were going up. Now, no one wants to support businesses coming to the US. \nThere are way worse things than prices going up for a few years. We do need to start chipping away at that $36trillion. We are the 1st country to not go belly up with the GDP ratio to debt as high as ours. Economists that aren’t connected to our government and top CEO’s said last year that it didn’t matter who was president, our dollar will reset and our economy will crash. So, somebody has to do something. Trump and his people has to think outside the box to stop it. Especially if interest rates don’t go down, because if we can’t pay the interest and our corporations can’t either, the crash will happen.

Trump is a joke but nobody is laughing. Trudeau puts Trump to shame. This is why Canada is respected, while Trump is regarded as a bully and a petulant child who is intent on hurting his friend to impress another bigger bully. The people of the US are most at risk and hopefully will eventually realise that Trump is the problem and not the answer. He is driving the US economy into the ground just to appease Putin. It makes you wonder what information Putin has about Trump that he is holding over Trump's head? This fiasco is making Trump look like a weak fool who cares nothing for what pain the US people will suffer. He is rich and therefore he and his billionaire friends will not feel the pain he is happy to inflict on others.

Quit calling it a war Trudeau, they just showed us that they are taking care of themselves...trump will provide americans with what they need... You however have done nothing but take from us canadians..you made our country a drug pit..just drive thru any small to bc towns and look at how many more drug addicts are wandering the streets..10x more since your new drug laws...you give our money away, and how did you get so rich when you gov. Canada should block all US imports, not just put tariffs on US goods. No one in Canada will buy US goods anyway.

I’m a Canadian and no fan of Prime Minister Trudeau. It’s unfortunate the best speech he ever gave was after he resigned as Prime Minister. What he has said in this speech is absolutely true, despite the fact, I think Trump is doing some good things for the USA. This Terrif war with your neighbour is stupid. Unfortunately for us in Canada our Prime Minister has not given us the tools and freedom to grow economically and prosper the way we should have. Canadians should be living like Kings, but unfortunately are living paycheque to paycheque because of the stranglehold that our Prime Minister has put on businesses and its citizens. Now Canada has very little leverage, I believe to fight this Terrif war. Canada has become a pure Cradic nightmare, like the previous administration in the United States were overtaxed over regulated and spend money like drunken sailors on stupid things that don’t help us grow and prosper.

Wow, Trump is good. Shook Canada to listen and work now. I am sure he has their attention, and an a few weeks, he will fix these tariffs. The point here is he is not playing any games with the world and he is putting America first best to work with then against America.

Looking in from the out side I applaud Trudeau on his speech. But........ Canada needs the USA more than the USA needs Canada. Trump is who the United States elected by a majority. No games..... no fraud..... He IS THE Average large pickup driving, loud and rude American. He Is America and the rest of the world needs to take note.\n\n To be fair, in historical terms, the USA was created to be isolated and different than Europe. They went to War to become an independent country away from Europe. This whole idea that they follow Europe everywhere is only a small blip in history since WW2, they were never set up to be that.\n\n If Anything, the rest of the world should see there mistake in becoming so dependent on the USA. Ok I need some help understanding this. If it’s a dumb idea for the US then why isn’t it a dumb idea for Canada too? As I understand it, the US tariffs mean things imported from Canada get a few slapped on top and that is paid by Americans, to discourage them from buying Canadians things. Why wouldn’t Canada continue importing US things as before and not put extra fees on top, so they don’t have to find new suppliers and cause disruption? Then it is just America punching itself in the face not both of them.

Canada just needs to fix the trade deficit with the United States. If Trudeau does, the U.S. tariffs would not happen. Canada has turned a deaf ear when the U.S. requested a fair trading partner and less deficits in the past decades. Trump was obligated to put a tariff on Canadian goods entering the U.S. since Canada did not resolve the problem.

if a country with a net deficit puts 25% tariffs on the net credit trader, and the net credit puts on 25%, the net deficit profits substantially overall, they collect more tariffs, consumers just buy local, so more national business growth etc. i.e. canada is screwed, the us does well out of this. if the us put on 100% tariffs on canada, that country would go bankrupt, and the us would be fine.

I am so sorry Canada, truly. I'm embarrassed that our president would do this. It's shameful. Please know that even though the majority of votes put Trump into office, it wasn't a landslide. Something like 40% of us did NOT vote him in. Therefore, there are many, many Americans who did not want him, do not want his politics and are seriously sorry for his actions.

I think finally Canada realized that if they have friend like US then they don't need any enemy. You can't trust US at all and need to start open your market for global trade. You say intelligent words right from the start and you deliver a strong message in a very strong manner, beginning with this: the US is declaring economic war on Canada, as well as strong arguments, and that fentanyl is just a pretext, which we all already know, that getting closer to Russia and cutting ties with its allies is Donald Trump's current course of action, and the fair question to ask is why is this man putting himself at the service of the Kremlin which is totally unnatural for an American.?
