The biggest cause for the cost of living increase we've seen in Canada in the last decade can be largely attributed to government policy regarding immigration. Not the fault of anyone coming here. Foreign immigration agencies and the Canadian government are selling people false hopes. They are doing newcomers and Canadians a disservice. Unfortunately the government has no intention to put the brakes on the flow of new immigrants, even when there is not enough housing for everyone. We are at a breaking point in many cities and immigrants are being blamed, when the blame should be squarely on governments at all levels.

What I have heard about Canadian policies, they are idiotic - to say it nicely. Ok....I've lived in Singapore for the last 33 years, graduated from the University of Alberta with an Electrical Engineering degree. Worked 1 year in the arctic in 1989 then was offered a job in Singapore in 1990 and never looked back. There are MASSIVE engineering opportunities in Asia, its nothing like Canada. \nIf you have to deal with the Canadian government from outside the country your quickly realize that Canada is run by....children. The high commission is a joke, the over seas PP stuff is a joke, its all a joke. They could just copy the legislation that Australia has but they don't, it a complete amateur joke.\nCrime in Singapore? There is almost zero. \nTaxes? Singapore taxes are 1/4 of that in Canada plus there are no capital gains tax in Singapore. One of the reasons I stayed here was that I wouldn't lose have my gains on my stock options. \nInflation is caused by government spending and Peter Pan(Justin Trudeau, the man child) spends-and-spends. He has no plan to balance the budget nor pay down what is already borrowed. This causes inflation.....and it will continue. Why? I am saddend by the number of people who have chosen to leave Canada, although I realize that this is a good decision for you and many others. This country has changed, and not for the better. Greed has taken over with grocery conglomerates eliminating competition and raising prices for record profits. Buying a house now requires a lottery win, not just a mortgage. It seems that we are working to pay taxes and the banks and the insurance companies. And I have yet to hear anything meaninfull about this situation from the government on these issues. sadly in less than 4 years our country has declined at a rate I feel like isn't really seen in any other western country. It feels like we are in the death throes of corporate strangulation while being led by people who truly do not care about Canada, Canadians or new immigrants. The Canadian government is over 1 trilliion dollars in debt. Ontario, Canada's most populous province is over 400 billion dollars in debt. The country does not have the money to build homes and other residences for the enormous number of immigrants brought into the country for no other reason than to virtue signal, and, perhaps, to keep the Left (with its rock-bottom birth rate) stay in power.

It's a disgrace how Canada has been governed the last 8 years. Government debt is through the roof and that burden has been passed directly to the once so called middle class now the working poor. I am leaving Canada as I can only see life and standard of living dropping considerably. If they stop the idiot policies now, it will take a generation to recover, but i hardly see that happening. The climate activists, gender activists and health fear mongering is controlling policy and brainwashing children. Canadians will accpet things. Im 1st generation to Canada in 1952 , garduated from Univ, served in Canadian Army .This country has deteriated due to consecutive governments allowing flow of immigrants, refugees, student visas . Or that our parents were able to afford university with zero debt afterwards now you leave with $100k+ in debt and the classrooms are 80% foreigner. The future for Canada now is probably breaking into small countries because diversity has no future.

I'm sorry but I know Canadians who live on 700.00 a month because the government won't help them but they let illegal immigrants cross the border and tell them they will be arrested and instead they let them in. How is that justice and you wonder why we get pissed off.

I read an article recently that Canada is running their immigration like a shady fly by night credit card company. It doesn't matter to them about honoring the terms as long as they can get enough people to sign up. But soon enough (and it's starting to happen) word is going to get out that it's not really that great and the number of people signing on is going to plummet.\nThe Canadian government doesn't care about the immigrants as people, all they are is numbers to keep our overall GDP propped up, meanwhile per capita GDP is in a freefall.

I am a dual USA and Turkish citizen. I highly recommend migration to Turkiye. I don't recommend Istanbul because it is too crowded, costly, and inflationary. I’m a local Canadian and I very much agree with you. I’m planning on leaving as well and never moving back here. Canada used to be nice but now it’s just extremely expensive, residents are RIDICULOUSLY overtaxed, we’re not getting back the value of what we were taxed for, large cities like Toronto are overpopulated and thus the culture is highly diluted, left wing government, not to mention the cold wet and dark winters these days :(

Failing , that’s the right word. Canada keeps taking new immigrants ( mostly undocumented & refugees) over staying tourists. Not deporting. Lack of affordable housing/ apartments. Cost of living is too high & taxes. Minimum wage don’t match reality. Highly educated or degree holders are great & still don’t appreciate how lucky they are. No matter how successful & achieved a good job professionally when you retire, they put you back below poverty as senior. Max government pension is about $1,600 . How can you afford decently & independently to live alone. Not enough to rent a bachelor apartment. Government housing nowadays gives priorities to new / refugees / non documented immigrants than real average Canadian citizen who works hard for years. Long waiting lists for affordable housing Thank God & to myself alone , I started early & fought for my well deserved affordable housing after I retired otherwise, no way I cannot live decently as a senior like others who didn’t contribute much during their early years to the government. Many Filipino,indian,pakistani engineers, whom I knew, spent many thousand us dollars went to Canada with their families to improve their lives.but, when they arrived in Canada, they worked not as an engineer, but worked in a position below engineers, like skilled workers.so, salary is low,everything expensive. Since the liberals with the leadership of Justin Trudeau took over, 10 years ago, in the federal government, Canada has become a pathetic place to live. Socialism has destroyed the entrepreneurial spirit. Taxes are very high and professional immigrants can not practice their occupation since it is not recognized by the government. The government prints money and gives generous handouts to those that don’t work with the result that the debt has reached uncharted territories and the Canadian dollar has lost more than 35% of its value against the U.S. dollar. Healthcare is horrible since you have to wait for months to see a medical professional or have an operation. The country is run by monopolies and oligopolies in banking, and telecommunications. To buy or rent a house is extremely expensive. Finally the winters are long and cold and when you see the sun you feel is a real treat!

I'm Canadian-born but was visiting Turkey last June (I'm not Turkish in any manner). It was the first time that I thought of leaving Canada. I'm Christian and even a moderate-conservative Islamic Country felt more normal than Canada. I agree that the Zionists now control the Canadian Government. Both Trudeau and Poilievre are repulsive as leaders.
