What I would like to know myself as a Canadian resident for 60 years where is the financing coming from the students coming in from their perspective countries or is it Canadian financing. The next question please would be would these students actually contribute to Canada's society and not be like the last 20 years of nurses being trained and doctors also guilty of this of leaving the country and laughing at the Canadian taxpayer by not even paying back the student loan which is not forgivable by any means I would really appreciate someone to educate me on this it's just an unknown I feel almost ripped off.

The disparity between domestic and international tuition costs followed, a disparity that has been gradually increasing as universities find themselves in increasingly desperate financial situations - with limited sources of revenue. If direct government payments were increased to pre-1990 levels (and I would be willing to bet that most Canadians would approve of their tax dollars supporting education and training programs for Canadians), it would allow universities and colleges to manage their finances without disproportionate reliance on tuition - in particular international tuition. Bottom line - resuming adequate and equitable funding for post-secondary education must be front of mind while discussing the implications of lack of housing for international students. The point about cuts to public funding is underplayed and not well-contextualized in this CBC analysis - which just barrels on to band-aid fixes (like capping numbers or building more housing). The funding model itself needs to be fixed. Let's change the model from provincial to a provincial/federal hybrid funding model. And while we're at it, let's revise the funding model for healthcare. Why not do a sequel segment on that.

I lived in Canada for over 20 long suffering cold years. My rent in 1982 in Kamloops for a large two bedroom appartment was 105 bucks a month. Then when I moved back to Toronto and got an apartment right on Young at Grosvenor our rent shot up to a tough 620 bucks a month (all utilities included) but I was making a lot of money so it seemed like the good life. I wonder how expensive that luxury high rise is today? Probably about $4500 per month would be my guess. Canadians don't like to talk of the negatives in Toronto, but I feel really sorry for some of my family still there. My mother in law broke her back. All they could do is give her pain killers for the four months before she could get penciled in for surgery. And that was before it all went to hell. It's nice to see so many shots of places that were once so much a part of my life, but in all honesty moving to the States was the best thing I ever did. It was in fact like an escape from madness. Now similar crazyness is here, even on the South East coast of the US. Time to look for another escape. Any suggestions?\nOh, and my friends cousin got murdered in the Jane and Finch area years ago. if you earn less money then you don't pay that much tax for health care. I've never paid over 15% of my income for income tax and because I earn so little I don't pay monthly health care premiums they are just free. The reason I earn so little is because I have a 3yo and no options for childcare when his dad is working so I can only work when his dad is not working. As a result I get the maximum canadian childcare benefit (CCB). Although the main reason I haven't left canada yet besides family, is the clean drinking water, relatively clean air (I live in a rural area) and low levels of environmental diseases (malaria, hep B, dengue, zika, cholera, parasites etc). I keep trying to find a country that can offer clean drinking water and clean environment with decent climate and soil for growing food, and decent health care and work opportunities. If anyone has any suggestions for countries like this to research I'd love to hear them.

Canada has become so corrupt. It's also known Canada has become a haven for money laundering and all kinds of schemes like that. These colleges have turned into diploma mills. Their diplomas have no real value anymore. They are churned out solely because of money and it's flooding the market as well. \nHow is this allowed? \nCan you imagine how many Canadian Citizens are DYING because they have to fight against millions of new International students and new coming immigrants each year for a hospital spot.\nWait times at ER as exploded. Tons of new cases where Canadians died waiting for emergency help. This is criminal. \n\nThis is also very bad for the long term Indians that came to Canada many years ago and their kids born in Canada. They are starting to get stigmatized because all Canadians see is insane amount of Indians that barely speak English (that would be the immigrants not the students) and with a housing crisis and it affects Canadians. Guess who the scapegoats are.\nI am telling you these are the unfortunate side effects. Right now all Canadians are hurting. Trudeau and Liberals have to go and PP better not even TRY to keep this going.

many new immigrants who rushed in thinking canada was some honeypot are now leaving for good which is the most compelling reason why canada is not a destination to immigrate! unlike US there are no mechanisms in place for new immigrants to succeed with higher costs, unaffordable housing and taxes jobs are difficult to find and on top it to adjust as new migrants it’s very difficult so yes the canadian dream is very much over for most immigrants, international students can go anywhere for education it’s not a canadian specialty as such but most students came to canada because it allows them to do work after graduation but other countries are also catching up with attractive schemes to attract these students so it does look like lesser students are expected in canada from now on…

think about it , up to 90% of the school funding come from international student. Without them , I cannot imagine if local student can afford the tuition. If schools can still hire the best professors. And how many people may loss their job. I went to Conestoga college, and I wish your mon read my words. Canadians, should consider that international students are paying around 20k yearly to Canada Colleges institutions that are not offering better education than the one provided in their own countries for way less than 30k. Other developed countries, like Germany or Belgium offer the same programs to international students for around 8k yearly, but, the international students rather come to Canada which also offer an easier path to become PR. But then, they crash with the reality and they realize that even many Indians can't speak proper English to be competitive in a Canadian College or in a Canadian company. Unfortunately, Canadians educational institutions know that the English spoken by international students is not enough but, they send them an acceptance letter from the institution so they can come and study in Canada. So, the real problem are the Canadian public colleges and Universities accepting people with a poor English level from overseas. Canada is a great place to be but, this kind of actions make their productivity poor which is in reality the problem behind the bad economy development when compare with similar developed countries. So, your mon should first blame its own country policies and educational institutions rather than international students for that kind of behaviors when they are students. Also, you should put your self in their shoes, learn German and go to Germany and see how easy is to manage to get a waitress job only in German in a city like Cologne. And then remember that this international students are bringing 20k from their countries economy to Canada each one yearly. Know, think how many Canadians bring 20k yearly to India or Nepal... Hey Tyler i love your work. I am a savagely loyal Albertan. \nAlberta is the best province. Change my mind. \nBut if Alberta starts slipping to the Left with another NDP/Socialist government, i would move to the US no question. Not just anywhere though. The 2 coasts are dumpster fires. Altogether, the damage to this country by bringing in so many international students will cause Canadian citizens to immigrate elsewhere, including me at some point. It's hard to have this discussion sometimes as people will say you're being offensive, but really, I doubt the current climate of Canada is satisfactory for these overseas students either, their housing and job options here are poor and this affects Canadian citizes. If you go to places like Vancouver or Ottawa, it's completely unrecognizable to the unregulated amount of international students who are typically in poor situations.

Who is saying they are International Students? Come on. They come to Canada to find a job and settle down in Canada. This is the easiest way for them to come to Canada. That’s the well known secret. Canadian government is also getting Immigrants 500,000 per year. What about the Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents who don’t have jobs? This is totally unfair. It looks like Canada is already corrupt.

As a Canadian I think we should be helping fund the Universities and Colleges and getting rid of the private colleges. We need to stop immigration completely for a while and only allow skilled immigrants in required fields. If Canadians assist in funding the Universities and Colleges then tuition will be more affordable for Canadians. I'd rather pay tax towards schools instead of something useless like carbon tax.

International students are not, many of them have parents who came to Canada first , then find volunteer work jobs like nonprofits call centres to qualify for working visa, then apply PR, here is the catch, many of those actually financially stronger than local Canadian, cash buying houses, paying high fees for their kids being international students, they compete local first time homebuyers, they don’t actually need a well paying job, they came here for Canadian IDs . These immigrants wave ? isn’t the same as decades ago who fresh off the boat had to go schools or job market to survive. Don’t blame international students, their parents came ….

The housing is something the government should have seen earlier, stepped in to start creating homes itself. It is too expensive for small companies to build or they are forced to sell what they build at a small margin or lose to regular people. Most other cases they are up against giant companies like BlackRock who use houses as investment. The hands off approach of the Liberals and Conservatives has lead us to a housing shortage. We need to build housing, and it is quite apparent that private companies too small to compete or too big to bother. The government and Canadians are going to have to solve this ourselves, and build more housing.

I saw many times the ads about Canadian Dream here in YouTube. It looks beautiful and promising, but turned out the reality is not like that. I wonder why their government encouraging people to immigrate to Canada but not really ready to accept them.

I totally agree that this country will break your spine and test your ultimate willpower. Me and my wife came here 5 years back and we decided that we will shut ourselves like a tortoise. Forget about savings and forget about everything else. Only and only one goal we had in mind is that we will live in the basement and earn top dollars. Just to give you a perspective. My first pay was 19 dollar per hour and my current pay is 87 per hour. My wife started with 16.5 per hour and now earning 69 per hour. Even though our income grew substantially, we never raised our expenses. Answer to all problems in Canada is income. Now after 5 years we bought house worth of 1.4 M. We moved out of basement and felt immense pride. We paid 37% down payment and 3 banks approved our mortgages in a heartbeat. No debt at all. We paid up our car in full. Just a regular new suv nothing fancy. \nEveryone is different, we all are unique and I believe you took a right decision. Each and every word you said in the video is true. \nWe cried , we fought , we felt that our life is ruined but we both thought that ek bar to Canada ko harana hai. Canada is not an attractive country anymore. I told my friends in my orgin country like even don't take a trip here to spend your valuable money for these stupid axxhxxx Canadians. In stead, trip to the states we can call beautiful and wonderful country in the world!

Fabulous video! US viewer here. But we often vacationed in Quebec’s Laurentians and our daughter went to Ontario’s University of Toronto for her undergraduate degree about 15 years ago. UofT was rigorous, to say the least, but she did it in 4 years, unlike some of her peers. She LOVED it, and made many friends, including internationals. They’ve stayed close on FB, and even get together (some flying in from other countries, including the Middle East and Asia) every 2 years or so back in Toronto. We’ve found the easiest way to make friends is by going to university or college together and living in residence, rather than once we’ve enter the workforce.\n\nThat said, and as unpolite as it may be, the root of Canada’s problems are exactly its politics. IMO Canada’s misguided liberal policies are to blame for its stratospheric taxes, cost of housing, increasing crime, tolerant drug culture, and deteriorating health care system. That Canada now encourages voluntary euthanasia to reduce health care costs should say it all. Margaret Sanger would be proud. I rent a room in Ottawa for maybe 2 months and when I left. I heard the landlord was imply in something very bad that they said at the tv. a few years later, maybe 5 years later when I applied for my Canadian pardon, the ottawa police wrote something about me like was i was subject in that event! I went to the police of ottawa and they said sorry we cannot find out who mentionned that because after few years the info is deleted or not accesible to the public. That affected my pardon. and when I saw thos crazy behavior of Canadian government and the peoples in Ottawa, that give me more reason to not go back to canada. In answer to topics raised. Real estate in Australia is expensive because the nation is highly successful and ordinary citizens are wealthy, and this includes real estate, plus with 3 billion middle class Asian's right above Australia the Asian economy dwarfs the US economy to insignificance. Job opportunities are dictated by the fields the economy needs - oil is insignificant in Australia compared to other industries. Geographic Isolation - Thank god the rest of the world is far away, as an Australian I wish it was further away. Air fares prior to pandemic were reasonable USA to Australia around $800 return - but this guy lives in Perth so to go 4-5,000km to the east coast will be expensive - on the east coast a one way ticket to another city can be had for around $50 to $80 - Again for Australians proximity to the US market is not significant we are focused on the Asian region. Natural beauty anywhere is amazing but I prefer a warm climate over a frozen one - The Canadian population is all centered around the US/Canadian border region the rest of Canada like central Australia is vastly empty. In conclusion I find many immigrants want to move from Australia to Canada is proximity to the USA but for Australians the US market or lifestyle is not attractive or important.

I am surprised you did not mention the dictatorial behavior by the Canadian government such as during the COVID scam, when they lock you down like animals, forcing (potentially lethal) injections and masks.

Just regarding your crime stats and your section about safety - the homicide rate in Canada, and across all Canadian cities is very very very low relative to other comparable cities around the world, particularly the United States. For example, Toronto’s homicide rate in 2022 was 2.5 per 100,000 - compare this to a city like Chicago, comparable in size and population, which is 24 per 100,000. And this is not even nearly the highest in the US (which is St. Louis, MS at 69.4 per 100,000). The large percentage increase you mentioned in Canada’s national homicide rate is likely due to the fact that you are dealing with low base numbers to begin with - so small absolute increases can yield high percentages, and make it look much worse than it really is. Other types of reported crime may be up, and people may FEEL less safe (due to high levels of vagrancy, increased media reporting, and politicisation of crime trends) but Canada still remains a very safe place to live.

As a canadian i never thoughg of living anywhere else vanxouver is so beautiful. Growing up govrnmebt started cutting programs and services in schools ans public resources. And kept doing it. \n\nNow they are removinf beautiful homes to build ugly apartments no yards .\n\nThere is not enough public space. Everyone is moving to the city. We use to be able to go to the beach on a weekday in spring and there was no one. Now its packes. To get to the bathroom was almost a block long. The bathrooms are small. Goos for population we has in the early 90s. We need somethings 4x larger now. \n\nIm ok with new comers but if they create a new community in the rural areas. We have so many areas up north no one moves to.\n\nOr lots of space to build new communities up north, not deatroy the current communities that already exist. \n\nWith all the new apartments there is not enough space for cara, no parking and no room on public transportation.\n\nSimply, the city cannot support anymore people. Its unrealistic. \nI worked with a girk who shares a 1 bedroom apartment with 5 other people and she still paid 1500 a month for rent.\n\nThis will soon be like america - run down, extreme poverty & homelessness. You will live well anywhere in the world if you have money or a good source of income. All the Canadian ex-pats living abroad have either money (they made here), real estate that they can sell or rent to have income from here, a Canadian pension or a willingness to live in the forest/off-grid, as many videos show. No place is affordable for the people living there, and that's why many immigrants still leave their countries and come here. For example, many Canadians move to Mexico, while many Mexicans are moving here. Canadians still have it good, believe me!! I travel and see. Yes, we have many challenges with housing and the high cost of living like BIG cities worldwide do. So, people saying they will leave Canada are still privileged people.

Also please do consider Oman. It’s a beautiful truly Islamic country. The Omani Arabs are most respectful and calm people. I loved living there. \nYou can drive and visit dubai in 4 hours. Believe me you don’t want to live there. It’s like Disney land. Visit have loads of fun then return home to wonderful Oman. If you work there as an expat you are provided lovely accommodation, tax free income and a tickets to your home country every year during your month off. \nIt’s super clean and many US, Canadian, European expats extend their contracts to stay longer because of the luxurious lifestyle.

I'm not muslim, but I've lived and worked in Saudi where Islam permeates every facet of life. I also lived in worked in Malaysia where Muslims make up the majority. Both countries have their advantages and disadvantages. As you have a Canadian passport you're more likely to get a better job in Saudi. No guarantee of that in Malaysia. \nI found the food better in Malaysia, but the food in Saudi is pretty darn good too. \nWinter in Saudi is very nice, at least where I lived in Khobar.
