As an employer, there is nothing more frightening then calling someone from a resume, when you have NO CLUE how to pronounce their name. Very awkward. And a lot of it could really be that simple.

There are a lot of things that we have not put into law, because they are covered by common sense. If a Muslim woman goes into a shop and makes a purchase It is reasonable for the shop keeper to want to see their face, after all a large robe can hide a lot of shop lifted goods.. We can make that law if it becomes necessary, so a person must comply with the law and not claim that their religious law is greater. There is so much negativism associated with Islam and all Muslims get tarred with the same brush. They frighten us. Their dress is alien to us. ISIL and other groups do unspeakable things in the name of their religion. Their religion is too demanding. Christianity and other religions can adjust to scientific facts. We KNOW the world is round and there are other worlds, so far unpopulated, out there. Islam seems to demand adherence to its core beliefs written centuries ago and makes no concessions to emerging facts. Religion is the main influence in the life of Muslims and their Imams seem to have a lot to do with governance and education, instead of the separation of church and state to which we are used. If you come to Canada to live, then adjust to our values or leave, please. This doesn't mean that you have to stop attending a mosque but please discontinue the scary body coverings and start treating your women as equals, not chattels. Even some women will argue with that last bit, but why does a woman have to cover up and a man does not? This is NOT equality.

I do feel for the moderates who might feel embarrassed about Jihadists acting in the name of Islam, and anxiety about being associated with them, but at the same time, these moderates have a unique position in defining their religion. They can do this by addressing all the concerns western civilisation has about values, namely about freedom of speech, female rights, homosexual rights, and apostasy - where the holy texts encourage anti-liberal values, moderates should be quick to criticise them. But if moderates are actively AGAINST criticism of these areas, I have no sympathy whatsoever.

Where are the women's feminist groups? I remember cries of 'Male chauvinist pig' back in the '70s and the title was well deserved by most men back then. At its worst, muslims cannot police their fellow muslims. There are factions from within, the threat is the extremist who feel entitled to spread, impose their culture instead of assimilating to an accomodating country. What about the feelings and sentiments of other immigrants from non muslim countries? I come from predominantly christian Philippines, and get along well with hindis, East Indians and Europeans of non muslim background. All to often it is hard to get along with muslims, they talk issues which you can only say they have that victim syndrome. No wonder it reminds me of college days that, no one jokes around these guys as they are quick to anger and they tend to band as a pack of wolves.
