I came to Canada as a student. Applied through to get my permanent residency. Improved my English, also learnt French. Worked multiple jobs... learned the Canadian way of life. Amalgamated myself into this wonderful country and it's even more awesome people... most importantly always paid my taxes and never been on EI... now your telling me I should have just walked across the border and within 12 hours I would have received refugee status... phewww that's a blow out

Canada is one of the worst places to immigrate to. I’m Canadian. I know what it’s like to live here. Plus I’m indigenous. So I’ve face racism and prejudice. Many think my people gets free handouts. From my experience that’s far from the truth. I’ve left my community for a better education. I was completely alone without parents and my siblings, living with an aunt that used me for another pay check. I couldn’t go to college because I couldn’t afford it, even tho I got accepted into three colleges. Now I’m working a part-time job that forces me to stand on my feet all day. Not many job opportunities are out here unless you’ve gone to college or obtain training. plus the rate for rent is horrendous.

What makes me laugh is the guy thinks he can come to Canada for house, job, food, clothing, with the whole fam damily\nand presto everything is great. Geez how many Canadians have 15 grand saved up. We have many people living on the\nstreets here as is. If I were rich I would find a street person that was willing to work and help him, first.\nTrudeau is a dumb ass that thinks he's Santa Claus with our hard earned tax dollars.

It’s usually the Eastern European immigrants that are very obvious with racism in Canada. The Anglo Canadians are more subtle especially with high paying jobs.

As a Canadian we are more open to immigtation . There are still laws. I myself am an immigrant. This piece shows one story out of thousands yearly. Without knowing specific details it is tough to judge. I know and have met quite a few refugees that have gained legal status within the past few years. We are not perfect by any means but the government does a good job, in my opinion. There must still be a vetting process. I hope this family has found stability

Everything u said is correct but one thing is very difficult that is job offer. Because they didn't give any job offer to Pakistanis and Indian as well and because of this we can't qualify for it. A refugee here. Through my job as an engineer, I'm probably giving back more than what half Canadian born do. Many Canadians just live off of interest in money they inhereted while we work to uplift the economy. Refugees would still rather go back to their countries as soon as the war is over. $50K in the first year? I should have applied as a refugee instead of skilled worker 😂, instead of spending $10k just in immigration paperwork + airfare and then another $20k just to support myself (with no welfare) in the first year that I couldn't find a job because I didn't have "Canadian experience". I'm not against refugees but I think 50k is too much, especially if they are getting free housing. There are a lot of things wrong with our immigration system, and I think patronizing immigrants (instead of empowering them) is the cause of most problems.
