Canada should not respond with tariffs. That will just increase prices for Canadians. They should look for other markets.\nTrump promised to lower prices. This is a direct move to increase them! Trump and his millionaires won't be hurt by this. Only the millions of regular people that voted for him will suffer. This is a perfect example of how politicians go to war and the citizens pay with their blood. ?

Canada and Mexico can make sure their borders are secure but instead they want a tariff war with the US

I’ve read many comments urging Canada to reduce its exposure to the us. It’s reasonable but that doesn’t happen overnight. Refineries, for example, are custom built - they can’t process all crudes. They’d cost several billion to build and at least 3-5 years; plus, you need railways and port infrastructure to ship out oil or its byproducts. This should have been started in 2017 (trump’s 1st term). In the short term, free trade zones within Canada and Mexico may alleviate some of the tariffs.

DW comes from Germany, so don't expect fair reporting. However, this is so simple to understand. We buy from them much more than they buy from us. What it means, is that they can't tariff us as much as we can tariff them. The ´war´is lost before it began. They simply can't win it. Actually, I'm surprised, they even try because it doesn't make any sense.

Desantis needs to slap tariff on all Canadians coming down to Florida clogging are roads up and driving under the speed limit.

The reality of the situation is that while Canada’s retaliatory tariffs will hurt the US a little, Trump’s tariffs hurt Canada a lot! Right now we’re in a moment where Canadian politicians of all stripes need to placate the public’s demand for retaliation, however no matter who the next PM is, they will quickly and quietly be working to undo whatever factors led to this situation. That will mean acquiescing to Trump’s border demands among other concessions. One would be forgiven for thinking Trudeau should have just gone along with them in the first place and spared Canada the pain.

The only thing that will get Trump to pull in his horns is for countries to respond with counter-tariffs that will HURT Americans big time. Trump said they don't need our energy. Let's shut down hydro electricity sales to the US and allow millions of residences and industry go dark in winter and wait for Trumps call to negotiate. The US NEEDS Canadian resources and we should use that to our advantage.

Biggest loser from this trade war is Microsoft's video gaming division.\n\nWhile the Playstation 5 and Nintendo Switch are made in China and Japan, the Microsoft X-Box Series S/X are American made.\n\nAs a result, the PS5 and Nintendo Switch will not face a 25% tariff from the Canadian Government, but the X-Box Series S/X will.\n\nI'm surprised that Bill Gates and Microsoft are not fighting for Canada and Mexico even though they have everything to lose.

Illegal crossings and fentanyl (less than 1% coming from Canada) are just excuses to justify the tariffs. His end goal is to bring revenue to the US by means of foreign taxation.

the Americans do not realize that they are losing their closest ally, indeed, Canada was perhaps more of a brother than an ally. This is much worse than tariffs
2025-02-02 0
canada and mexico are just whining. trump just want to share the american economic pain with his closest brothers and have equal fair trade. no one talk about the offers. they didn’t do the offer so they get hit with tariffs.

Canada ?? China ?? and Mexico ?? should put Tariff 100% on tesla Ford and Chevy and all American vehicles right away, bevause Elon is the Reason We American and Canadian people are not getting Affordable Vehicle from Chinese Automotive industry. He is the one giving trump ideas of tarriff on every country. Tit for tat.

Canadians must start importing from other countries. Give Mexico and Latin America preferential trade on produce. Lift tariffs on Chinese cars and technology.

The price will go up in us. So tariff is a kind of sales tax and affect the poor people the most. Trump cannot raise the tax from the poor and so he did it indirectly to be able to balance the loss from the tax cut from the rich he plan to do.

Nonetheless you guys are still living in soon to be socialist country… your so called prime minster tooo BANK ACCOUNTS from farmers this does NOT make up for that I’m sorry, furthermore Canada has various TAX already on US Gas lumber at 150% more so now we are at 175% lol the CANADIAN and Mexican people are the ones who are gonna be affected THUS why he mentioned he is gonna try give his people extra money each month? Yes tariffs are MICRO not MACRO go ask your “ word class economists” about that
2025-02-02 0
Time to raise tariffs on Canada in response.
2025-02-02 0
Is funny that this ? president won't suffer for these tariffs. The sad part is the average Americans will suffer for his stoopidity
2025-02-02 3
THE MIDDLE CLASS WILL SUFFER MORE IN THIS NEW TARIFFS

1. The high price of eggs is bec. of Joe Biden! \n2. One economist I saw on CNN said 25% tariffs would only add POINT-6% (0.6) to inflation. The example he gave - if inflation is 2% - it would only go up to 2.6%. That's not going to break anybody's budget. *Biden gave us 22% inflation over four years!*

We sell million $ steel building structure in the US. \n\n7 of our major clients already confirmed that they will pay the 25% tariff. \n\nIn other words, Americans will pay the 25%. Way to go DJT. ?
2025-02-02 0
Trump news : Canada attack us with tariffs! Out of nowhere!
2025-02-02 0
Please slap more tariffs on the US. \n\n“If we burn, you’re gonna burn with us”
2025-02-02 0
Canada should not just match, make it 50% tariffs on the US. Canadian leaders are so weak
2025-02-02 0
We'll just have to see how it plays out for the US. Because if Trump's plan does work for Americans in the long run then I guess he's a genius otherwise he'll look like a complete fool if he has to rollback Tariffs because his plan failed

This can be the opportunity to shrink contaminant industries by reducing the demand through tariffs.
2025-02-02 0
Imposing tariffs and endangering free trade is the same as denying climate change or engaging in anti-vaccine nonsense. It is unscientific and will harm those engaging in those fallacies - most likely with higher inflation in the US. Trump imposes 25% on his partners, neighbours and allies and only 10% on China. That tells you a lot.
2025-02-02 0
Tariffs only make China stronger. The US is no longer competitive with gpt chat, electric cars, manufacturing in general, and now stoning economic blocks on its side, great idea! ?
2025-02-02 0
Haha tariffs against USA is like 1% of their gdp, where on the other hand trade with US is like more than 20% for those countries.
2025-02-02 0
Do you think this is also a test,, maybe US is just checking who's the true country really friends are? US support most of the countries in the world and send help or fund,,maybe they just testing the water hahaha who is really on their side when they make decision,, and see you will take revenge or accept it with whole heart as a friend nation,, as you said his a president he can change the tariff anytime to lower or to zero tariff. \n\nAs far as I know, the president executive order can change ,modify or can be revoke. \n\n\n\njust thinking/opinion, dont get made of me..?
2025-02-02 0
These tariffs from the US are not going to last too long. It’s all a show so Trump voters can think he’s doing something.
2025-02-02 0
Come on America, forget Mexico and Canada, you have enough resources, just put up there tariffs 1000 percent
2025-02-02 0
Don't buy into this Canadians. \nThese Liberals are delighted they can now campaign against Trump instead of Canada's conservatives. \nTrudeau's tariffs on American imports will directly raise prices in Canada, not the US, and will provide a windfall of tax money for his spendthrift government.

Users in the US create the drug trade. Blame the use of drugs. Also US invited illegals in by telling South America we made your Countries too hot to live by global warming from our cars. We allowed them in under Biden with open borders. Trump is wrong on this tariff disaster.
2025-02-02 0
Unfortunate that Trudeau seems to think that targeting Republican states will improve things. Better to just sit back and let Trumps tariffs do the harm to the US consumer that they will do.
2025-02-02 0
300% tariffs on tesla, also, no respecting the patents of these bozos. \nThey want economic war? \nLet's see who blinks first.
2025-02-02 0
I just find it strange how so many other tariffs have gone on in the past with various countries and no one cared but all of a sudden its a issue now?
2025-02-02 0
Trump did a favor to Canada if these dumb liberals can understand! Stop being dependent on Americans by lifting taxes tariffs between provinces, lift the dumb carbon tax and build pipelines!
2025-02-02 0
I'm just speculating, but obviously Trump's stated reasons for the tariffs against Canada don't reflect his real strategy. He wants to exert maximum pain and pressure on the current liberal government in Canada so that its more likely a conservative like Poilievre will get elected. Then, he'll end the tariffs handing him a victory and thus solidifying a conservative influence. Maybe. In any case, he wants more influence over Canada and its unnerving to watch.
2025-02-02 0
He is the reason of these tariffs. His politics and path he imposed on Canadians for the last 10 years!
2025-02-02 0
Trump said, Secure the border and pay the 2 percent to the military.\nInstead, Eastern leaders decide to WAIT for threatened tariffs and, when it happens, they decide on having a trade war.\nThat is liberal thinking in action.\n\nHow much would it cost to secure the border and pay the 2 percent Canada owes? (which would benefit Canada).\n\nInstead they choose to show their pride and demonstrative stupidity.\n\nIt's the Canadian people that suffer.\n\nTHEY SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO ALBERTA'S PREMIER DANIELLE SMITH.\n\nWake up Federation leaders.\nCanadian citizens (especially in the west) are going to suffer (even more than you've already caused).\n\nGet back to improved relations with the US, and, ALSO, seek out more trade with EU and anyone other country available.\nThis will make Canada stronger.\nWell, that and actually having elections!

Oh no, Jesus says if someone asks you to run a mile, you run 2 miles. Someone asks you for a coat, give him 2 coats. Someone asks you 25% tariff on you, give him 50%. Be generous, be kind, love one another. Do not retaliate. Do you hear me?
2025-02-02 0
Oh! The wall goin up?!???!!!??!? Thanks to tariffs ❤
2025-02-02 0
Both USA and Canada are member of the WTO. These tariffs mean that the WTO does not work anymore.
2025-02-02 0
I agree that Trumps tariffs are not high enough and I agree that they need to be one hundred percent
2025-02-02 0
This isn't war, it's revenue policy. Tariffs up, income taxes and government spending down will work to Make America Great Again.
2025-02-02 0
Trump should explore all the avenues before deciding the tariff imposition.. talks must be open\n... if it fails then you should initiate action... Donald Trump behaves like a dictator than a man with democratic values... My personal feelings
2025-02-02 0
Canada can put all the tariffs it wants on America if Trump closes the Border it'll destroy Canada's economy
2025-02-02 0
Ah, tariff wars. More inflation - invest in gold and gold stocks!
2025-02-02 0
Canada should have free trade agreement with the central and south america at a fair tariff. Trump has a history of BANKRUMPCY and will drive the USA to a big bankrumpcy.
2025-02-02 0
Their tariff just became 35% I bet. Big mistake
