What has happened in Canada is actually quite simple. Companies sell products and services. Companies require employees in order to sell those products and services. The difference between what the companies can those products and services for and what they pay the employees is profit. The owners of the companies want to maximize this profit, therefore want to pay employees as little as possible. Scarcity is labour is one of the driving factors behind what employees are paid. One way to decrease scarcity of labour is to bring in massive amounts of immigrants. That is exactly what Canada has been doing for decades. The owners of the companies take profits and invest it in real estate. This makes real estate unaffordable for the employees whose wages have been suppressed. Lower wages also means less money from taxes available for services like health care. We allowed our politicians to be bribed into allowing massive levels of immigration. Stagnant wage growth resulted in lowered consumptive capacity in the economy. This lead to stagnant economic activity and lowered investment into things that would make the Canadian economy more productive. What we have now is unaffordable housing. Lack of jobs. A failing health care system. An educational system where the bar was lowered to accommodate the lowest common denominator. Increased crime and substance abuse resulting from the subsequent hopelessness. Several families living in a single house. People working several low paying jobs just to try to get by. People with full-time jobs that are forced to choose between being homeless or starving to death. The immigrants that are still coming here are sleeping on the sidewalk in front of homeless shelters, or maybe scraping by delivering UberEats.

In a nutshell: A terrible healthcare system (eternal waiting periods and no doctors), No jobs available (only if you want to work low paying security or fast food jobs), the worst climate on the planet, high cost of living, taxes and NO housing! We moved here in 2010, and things were looking great at that time. We managed to get a house and just waiting for my kids to finish University and I am definitely leaving. Its not the same anymore. Hospital wait time when we arrive was 3-4 hours, now its at least 8 hours.

As Brit who emigrated to Canada 30 years this is not new. When i moved here in 1993, my Canadian friends were complaining about how bad things were. It's good and normal when citizens don't just accept the status quo. Living 30 miles from the US, I can tell you that it's av wonderful place to live and raise a family.

Its interesting that as soon as the US government decided that monopolies where great, things started to fall apart here too. Housing prices are out of control, and homelessness is increasing - along with laws victimizing homeless people. Its like the people who run these companies are mentally ill. They want customers and employees, but they do everything they can to destroy or drive away everyone who could become a customer or employee.\n\nI was lucky to buy something before housing prices went insane. But now there's no way to move anymore because renting is too expensive, and investors just out bid everyone and drive up the prices. I really prefer renting, and I used to always move to be near my current job. But for my next job I would have to waste 15 hours a week to drive to a job I could do just as well at home. If I didn't have family here, I would leave.

Canada is already well on its way to becoming a failed state. There is no signs of things changing.

Lack of housing and increased cost of living that is exceeding income growth seems to be a problem in many first world countries. In Canada we need to cool immigration until we have caught up with the housing needs of the people already here so its a good thing that people don't want to come here.

I think it's great that people who don't love Canada are leaving. We don't need you. I'm working to change things, to improve my life in Canada. One improvement is to reduce the crowding. If you're just here to economically exploit the country, then I'm glad you're leaving.

It's been great that we generally have more visibility in media, and the federal government has listened to more of our requests than in years past, and healthcare costs and education gets covered quite a bit. That being said, a lot of Indigenous folks are poor and will very likely stay that way. If middle-class people are facing financial struggle, then it's even worse for us.\n\nIMO, as things get tight, what'll begin happening is what happens on reserves -- families will cram themselves into houses. Adult children living with their parents, young couples living with parents, and single adults having 2+ roommates well into their 30s, 2 people per bedroom.\n\nPlease though, advocate for more housing to your local government. I had the opportunity to visit Toronto this past September. The trip began with Canada Air cancelling my flight, causing me to arrive at 1:30am the next day rather than 7pm the same day. Then couldn't get my cell phone to work although it works in every other country I've visited. Finally finding a hotel, it took me and my host (who is from Toronto) over half and hour to find the entrance because of the hotel's reconstruction and no signs. I had always thought of Canada as US-lite: all the good things without our problems. I quickly realized that it was like being in a third world country with flashy buildings. My hosts were looking for a way to get out as soon as possible.

Im a proud Canadian, born and raised. But I'm NOT proud that the way things are becoming too damn expensive. The fact that even 2 income families are barely getting by speaks volumes.\n\nNot a terrible thing -- a blessing in disguise actually -- but it's now becoming the norm that adults are moving back in with their parents just to save up. But at least, even if you have a family of your own, the parents will have more time to spend with their grandchildren.

I was born in Canada, my Mom was too. Yet things are getting so out of hand with the price of living we have to leave the city ive spent my entire life in, to try and find cheaper housing elsewhere.
