I'm from Asia and recently moved to Canada with my family to live a slower-paced and safer life. I've seen firsthand that the drug problem here is worse than it was back home, and they're being coddled with no plans to discipline or rehabilitate them. I asked my friends how I could defend myself and my family if a random drug addict broke into our house and stole our belongings; could I at least beat that person up until the police arrived? They said you couldn't because you'd be charged with assault. It's funny. \n\nApart from the crimes and exorbitant living costs despite living in a rural area, even Canadians who have lived in the country since birth are struggling to make ends meet. \n\nSome positive comments, Canada provided me with a work-life balance that was not possible in Asia due to the competitive nature of the corporate world. So I had time to spend with my family, and you don't have to travel abroad to see beautiful scenery. Canadians are also very accommodating and friendly, in contrast to where I came from, where people will not help unless it benefits them as well. The Canadians here are extremely friendly. So Canada is great because of its people, but I can tell you that the government consistently makes bad decisions about how to solve certain problems, such as drugs and harm reduction strategies. Another issue is that they do not recognize internationally trained professionals, which could have helped alleviate healthcare issues in our area, where we have many internationally trained nurses from the Philippines working as restaurant servers and janitors. We have doctors from Kenya who have to work as general laborers and in other odd jobs where they can use their profession and experience to help people. I am also an immigrant, but the government should strategically distribute us based on our qualifications. I chose a rural area because I don't want to add to the number of immigrants in big cities and instead want to contribute to the local economy by bringing my skills and experience to the pool. \n\nCanada is a wonderful country, and I continue to believe so, but the government must reward and do more for its people who are trying their best to make this country great.

The quality is actually not better in the US. Despite hospitals charging significantly more than other first world countries, America’s healthcare system actually performs worse in several areas including infant mortality but also in overall life expectancy. \n\nPatients are their customers. They want sick or hurt people, and the longer you stay in their hospital, the more they can charge you. Like, it’s pretty obvious that if you have a system where the worse a population’s health is, the greater the revenue, you’re going to have a conflict of interest.

I lived in the US for 4 years. I was 12 when I moved with my parents. I had a teacher who expelled me from school on my first day. I refused to do a pledge to their flag. The teacher went nuts. I said I was not pledging anything yo a flag of another country. The teacher then tried to tell me that I was lying and that Canada was a state, not a country, so I had been pledging my whole life. This was a teacher, and I did not know Canada was not part of the US. He called me a traitor and that I should be charged, then had me expelled. When I came back to Canada, I had to take an extra year of school because my grade 11 from the US was so far behind. The US school system was bizarre. The had clubs where people dressed like the military and marched around. They were taught to fire guns, and it was all part of school. They spend more time learning about their history and never learn about so much of it. It was like an oxymoron. The teacher did not know about the War of 1812, did not know that Washington was still trying to stay with in the British Crown even months before the end of their insurrection, and that Canada was a major contributor to the US moon race. It was a very confusing tome for me. Thing I had learned in elementary school, where just being taught in middle school, and other things were so far a head I did not follow like things about their Presidents. They could not spell, yet I got makered wrong for it and I found the teacher were either very nice or true demons, and they knew nothing but their own subject. I also felt like I was treated not as a student but as a criminal who had just not commented on a crime yet. Very strange.

I'm canadian and yeah, while the healthcare can be tricky sometimes, in cas of a emergency, it's not that tricky. I had to go to the ER 2 times in 3 month because of a pneumothorax, arrived there, pass in 15 min approximatly both time and was in charge, spent 1 week each time there and the second time even had to have a part of my lung removed. Had no real tricky manipulation to do or anyhing. I was just happy it cost me absolutely nothing and I think it's definetly a reason why the lifespan is higher since in case of an emergency, if I was in the US and had to pay, I would have actually died, since I don't have the money for it, I'm a student so... (that also helps, my session cost me around 200 bucks... yeah, 200, I'm in college). This country seemed like a paradise when I was growing up, our family had a doctor, we could get healthcare access quickly, my parents bought a beautiful home for cheap, and my dad started a successful company, while my mom was able to stay home and raise us.\n\nThese days both partners need to relentlessly work to even afford a place where raising a family is extremely difficult, healthcare treatment takes hours of waiting, and costs of basic services are through the roof. In BC we have only 1 government-run car insurance corporation, and they charge me $500 a month for my work vehicle, despite me having a nearly clean record.

I’m not trying to be disrespectful to anyone who comes to Canada but if you’re coming here legally, you should be arrested and charged but I also got a question. If Canada or the US were to charge a fee for permission to remain the revenue would be astounding! I can't think of one immigrant that would refuse to pay a $500 monthly fee to remain and work freely in either country. It has been suggested many, many times. The amount of revenue generated would exceed that of the tax revenue we currently have in place for common Americans by 2030. Why Republicans don't allow this? Well everyone, the option is to go into a system like the United States has , which incidentally is far from perfect itself, my spouse was in emergency for five hours last Saturday night before anyone looked at her, , which the system will spiral in to a business and if you think you have problems now, just wait till what’s down in the future. As a Canadian who has lived in the United States the last seven years, our good family healthcare is $1270 US a month, which incidentally has a $1000 deductible and a 10% co-pay on everything we experience, and trust me an MRI scan ( yes , just a scan, not surgery) for your brain is costed out at $7000, so be prepared to pay your deductible and 10% of it along with all the other attending doctor charges, even with good healthcare at 1270U.S. a month ! That monthly healthcare premium is almost $1600 a month Canadian. Canadians complain about taxes being too high also, but that is my profession, and when you round out the two , there may be 2 to 3% adjusted for the exchange rate higher and you still get a lot greater bang for the buck. Also, your higher education in the United States is easily 2 to 3 times of what you’re paying for in Canada. I know it’s not optimal, however trust me you still have it good in Canada, I find so many immigrants complain about it when they come to Canada, Yet they are living in a relatively safe and secure country, just a little bit of appreciation would be nice. Is it always what I can get, how about maybe what you can give? Maybe the answer for everyone and candidates to start to pay to go see a doctor if you can have the doctors availability, that is the sad truth, and I’m quite sure people will not like that by any means when they see the charges. Trust me ,Canada is obviously far from perfect, but is overall still a pretty darn good country, for somebody that dislikes it so much, they need to go back to where they’re from, and compare, it might be a better option for them.

I'm from Canada. My friend had a heart attack on a ski hill. He was promptly given a full bypass surgery, recovered in hospital and discharged. No charge. That would be a life ending event in the US, if not by dying from the heart attack, from financial devastation. I have always been treated well and thoroughly tested when needed. To be fair, why not the prospect student with a parent come to Canada for 2-4 weeks, check out the campus, ask around (current enrolled students). Second, stay and study in India, become a dr or a pharmacist (3yrs in India, Philippines etc vs 8 yrs in the US), any medical field and transfer over, being done since the 1950’s -ongoing in 2022, any dummy can pass the ECFMG, then start a residency.\n\nDubai has American universities (recognized no diff than physically in the US), Harvard and Michigan state are a couple examples. Victoria College in Alexandria, Egypt (possibly poorer than India), been there forever, AUB (American University of Beirut) recognized as an American college. Protest to have the Indian government to make US schools attractive for US universities to open campuses there. Private universities in the US (Catholic Jesuit colleges, Norte dame, Loyola, etc) charge the same tuition if ur a local or from South Asia.

I remember a time when the cost of living in Canada was much more affordable. I also remember a time when we didn't wait so long to get our free healthcare. The healthcare issue started many years ago when some old Conservative dude was in charge and he decided the best way for us to save money was to take it out of the healthcare funds. And then everything went ?with our healthcare. The cost of living was always high but it was balanced with our incomes. But it just absolutely ridiculous since Covid! I have to take on part time work on top of my full-time job now just to afford my increased cost of living!!
