Canada just needs to fix the trade deficit with the United States. If Trudeau does, the U.S. tariffs would not happen. Canada has turned a deaf ear when the U.S. requested a fair trading partner and less deficits in the past decades. Trump was obligated to put a tariff on Canadian goods entering the U.S. since Canada did not resolve the problem.

What a great speech. Balanced, fair and well thought out. Wish we could have politicians of this calibre in the UK.

Canada and other countries had there opportunity to make trade fair with America. They have not complied. Now they are suffering the consequences. Trump will win. I believe America still has a backbone even though cnn watchers don’t.

Quit acting like this is a guy who Canadians actually like. Trudeau is massively unpopular and will be gone very soon, when the new Prime Minister of Canada is put in place there will be a deal. Canada has run wild for far too long getting the best of us in every way now that it is fair they act as if they have been doing us favors all along when it has been the other way around.

It's pretty simple and fair, Trumps terrifs are going to equal what you charge us. How is that not fair? Canada is just upset that Trump isn't letting America's tax payers get taken advantage of anymore. Don't let Trudeaus words fool you. He is a dumb, weak and corrupt leader.

The problem is that Canada enjoys American friendship as long as it is costing America hundreds of billions of dollars. Trump simply wants a fair playing field. Why must America always take the short end of the stick. The moment we get a government that ask for things to be fair all these countries that have benefited rush to complain.

No winners? Your gravy train with the US is over and you have the most to lose. The US has been asking for fair reciprocity with its trading partners but you are causing it to be demanded. Canada has a population about the same as one state California. Trump has opened the US up to extracting and using its own oil, mineral, timber and other resources which we have lots and lots of. Just a matter of time before America is rid of the parasites on its ass.

Canadian here. My husband and I listen at you here on CNN Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and we couldn't be more proud of you and your team. You say intelligent words right from the start and you deliver a strong message in a very strong manner, beginning with this: the US is declaring economic war on Canada, as well as strong arguments, and that fentanyl is just a pretext, which we all already know, that getting closer to Russia and cutting ties with its allies is Donald Trump's current course of action, and the fair question to ask is why is this man putting himself at the service of the Kremlin which is totally unnatural for an American.?

When WILL CNN TALK ABOOUT ALL THE TARIFFS CANADA HAS ON US!!!!! I am a very small business owner who seals things on Etsy. I sold only one thing to Canada for $13 and the tariffs was additional $65. The Canadian paid for it however it was my one and only sale there. So how is that fair for me? How is that fair to us?

If anyone has kept up with Canada and Trudeau’s policies they know he has crippled Canada’s economy. This is a reciprocal tariff , why should they have tariffs on U.S. and U.S. not have any on them. Why exactly is fair trade so horrendous? Canada has tariffed the USA for Years!! But when we impose tariffs the sky is falling. Get over yourself.

Spoken like a true crooked politician. So instead of coming to the white house and holding negotiations on doing FAIR trade, He would rather play politics. Other country's we hit with high tariffs have come to the negotiation table and made deals. But no he has to play politics.

What Trump seems to try to get at most is the unfair act of the USMCA. Most trades benefited Canada, while Canada refused to provide the same fair trades. Sometimes Trump does say things that may have gone off track like fentyl handling on Canada's end and border handling. It seems like our borders at the time were less strict on the American side versus the Canadian side of the border. Trump did state multiple times that most countries like Canada were unfair to USA. Even with the USMCA, America got screwed by Mexico as will. America has been there helping and supporting and submitting to every country. Yet failed to support our own people when we need it, especially to clear up our own debts. Sadly, America is falling behind due to poor handling of Government Democrat corruption. I am neutral as both parties don't always provide the best solution for everyone. You have to pick who can help the American people. Seeing how corrupt the Democrats has ran America and the defacto behind of all the wars and money laundering has surprised me, and I hope the change with Trump will help everyone realize how screwed we all are in correcting those corruption that isn't really needed.

For all the American's siding with Canada. Did you know Canada has never fulfilled its obligation to Nato. they only pay 1% of its gdp. They are supposed to pat 2%. The united States has been carrying the water for Canada and other countries so they can flaunt social programs like universal healthcare. If they paid their fair share for defense they would not be able to afford it. Its about time these countries start paying the United states back. Since Canada became a member of Nato in 1949 they have never fulfilled their payment obligation, but enjoyed the security of being a member. America pays 4.5% and some other years 6% of our gdp to NATO. with out the US there is no NATO. Maybe Canada should take over for the US. Like that will happen. If Canada was the 51st state they would be the 4th poorest state. Not trying to be mean this is just reality. Remember when this same fellow froze protesters bank accounts and began collecting peoples weapons? Yet, he has the gull to talk about dictators. That being said, I do agree that the crossings from Canada are not nearly as significant as compared to our southern border. It would be nice to see more from Canada in their investments to secure the border and stop crossings, cartel movements, and drug operations. The US has spent more than 409 billion since 2003 on such operations. Regardless, I feel for you Canadians and it sucks that it has come to this and I hope we keep strong relations in the future. Hopefully we can come to a fair deal soon. Mexico and China are the big players that do not do nearly enough to prevent these crimes. In fact, the Mexican government helps the cartels by not trying to stop them. China's lack of regulation on the ingredients to make fentanyl contribute to a large extent to this tragedy as well.

Canada will vote this woke president out. Fair enough. Reciprocal tariffs. It’s not a trade war. It’s trade fairness. Every advanced country depends on trade with other advanced country and China. In fact Germany depends heavily on Russian energy which they’re now buying for a much higher price via other channels. So screw playing nice. United States will take parody with Canada as far as tariffs are concerned. We just want fair trade. The deals signed by United States were bad deals. We just want fair and even trade. From the USA: Why is it right for Canada to tariff us more than we tariff them? Trump pointed out that there was a 200 billion a year tariff deficit for the USA. Some say that number is inflated and the real number is somewhere around the 70 billion mark in Canada's favor. No one disagrees that the US has a huge tariff deficit with Canada. So, the USA is just leveling the playing field. It's time to truly have level trade with the rest of the world, not just Canada. No more free lunch from the US to the world. We want free and fair trade, but for that to happen we must tariff other countries goods at exactly the same level they tariff our goods.
