Canada been mooching off the usa for decades! Maybe Canada should volunteer to drop all the tariffs they have on us if they want to be friends. I voted for Trump, but it's hard not to agree with Trudeau on this even though I find this guy to be extremely unpleasant. There's no reason to start trade wars all over the world and in particular with our neighbors. It's one thing to threaten tariffs and a very different thing to actually apply them. If you do it has to be accompanied by a lot of diplomacy so that the other country is not overreacting, but Trump has been super combative prompting our neighbors to respond in kind to save face. While past deals may not have been great for US, this is not the way to handle our differences. Billionaires like Trump and his friends will be fine, but the majority of ordinary folks in the US and Canada will suffer. Very dumb, indeed.

I have had many Canadian friend including my first serious girlfriend. I worked with exchange Candian military folks and saw them as full partners. On D-Day Candian troops had their own beach which the successfully captured. They were by our side in Korea and all of our other wars. Even before now less than 1% of fentanyl came across the Canadian border. Canada has had a trade imbalance with us in our favor. Canada last year had already agreed to beef up border security by $1.3 billion. Canadian troops have fought alongside US troops in several wars.
