These tariffs are not about policy differences. They appear to be personal. Trump is settling scores. Many Trump voters believe that Mexico, Canada, Russia, China, Ukraine, and even the EU interfered in the US presidential and congressional elections in 2020, 2022, and in 2024 to help the Democrats strip us Americans of our rights and lock Republicans out of power permanently. It doesn't matter if its actually true or not. It's the perception that matters most and that has the bigger consequence. MAGA and President Trump are responding to the appearance of foreign interference in our elections. That's why he's preparing the shut down the DACA program too because we believe the DACA recipients sought to influence the last 4 elections and MAGA wants to punish all of them for that.

The word is Trump is trying to force Mexico and Canada to sign a blanket tariff against Mexico and these tariffs are his way to muscle them to join US.

Maybe these tariffs and our President may finally get you to allow into Canada as much as we do into the USA! Trying to play a game of tariff against President Trump will not do Canadians any good. Canadian’s can’t live month to month with the Sword of Damocles over our heads. I am glad we didn’t capitulate this month. These tariffs may hurt Canada more than the US but we are clearly far too dependent on the US and will benefit more from the tariffs in the long run (by reducing our dependency).

He asked Canada to reign in illegal immigration to the US and Canada complied. He said do something about fetanyl and Canada did. Trump said the tariff's were because Canada was not acting on these but now they have and we imposed the tariff's anyway. We look like liars and cheats. \nEven with Mexico we threatened tariffs if they didn't help with crackdown on illegal immigration, fetanyl, and drug cartels. Mexico complied and is also helping us. And we still slapped tariffs on them. We lied to Mexico too. \nAnd now we want everyone to trust us to negotiate a peaceful end to the Ukraine war with Trump threatening more sanctions on China and the EU. What the heck should they trust us and believe us after what we just did. \nWhen it comes to defining your character your willingness to keep your word overrules absolutely everything else. Our president gave his word that if these countries took certain actions there would be no tariffs. They did and now he slapped them both in the face with sanctions anyway. He broke his word. This is a dishonorable action. I hope it does not escalate from there. \nIf it was about promoting or building domestic industries, I think the Canadians could have helped us with that but now.... good luck now that bridge has been burned.

The raw ingredients come from China and into their respective nations, where they are processed and made into Fentanyl, then brought into the U.S. Neither nation has taken Trump seriously and Biden didn't give a crap and actually assisted with bringing in more of everything. Now both nations get to deal with the results of their inactions. Remember, these are reciprocatory tariffs to simply equal what American goods are charged by Canada & Mexico already. Besides this crazy tax-tariff thing, now the whole world has seen that Trump has removed the military aid to Ukraine... so the whole world has seen that if you buy weapons to the USA or you use them, the USA will extort you or leave you stranded even in dangerous situations. So now NOBODY is going to buy weapons to the USA, and considering that the American economy massively relies on its military industry, this can cause a huge collapse.
