My family came to Canada 5 years ago. The main reason was because my dad had been busy setting up a branch of his European company here for two years. He wanted to launch this new branch and then retire early. Canada as he knew it was a good option for him to do this. We even had a house long before we came to Canada. And we now live on the west coast of Canada. \n \nFor us, the transition to feeling at home here wasn't particularly difficult. We also had enough experience of what it was like to live in other countries. Canada actually turned out to be a very easy country to quickly settle in. \n \nI've heard that Canadians can be reserved, but my personal experience is completely different. \n \nNevertheless, I got to know fellow immigrants who didn't find it easy to get started in Canada. In my experience, they were not very or only rudimentarily informed about what to expect in Canada. Their expectations were very high and they failed because of the reality of everyday Canadian life. \n \nOthers had similar experiences, but they persevered and ultimately arrived in Canada. Some of my fellow students are international students who are also considering leaving the country because Canada doesn't offer what they were hoping for as a better life here. \n \nThe reasons are really too individual in nature to really generalize. I think there should be a lot more help given to people who are struggling with their fate in Canada, because there are enough programs that they could take advantage of but that they never hear about. \n \nUltimately, it may help if someone just listens to them and perhaps has some advice, no matter how vague it may be. Those who finally arrive in Canada after years of a long odyssey and find this country something like home are, in my opinion, those who never gave up.

People say why won't the Arab nations take in the Palestinians. I ask why do the Palestinian need to leave because a European wants there land?

They keep bringing up the argument why don’t Arab nations take in the Palestinians as if Palestinians want to leave their land. Why don’t the us or Europeans take the Israelis since they’re basically in bed with them in all other matters. The Palestinians ARE HOME and they’re not a Burden on their land nor are they homeless… what needs to be asked is why don’t the occupation get lost?

The housing market is now going through a depression and the amortization rate instead of 30 years is now leaning towards 40-60 years owing to high interest rates. Also there is not overt racism but it definitely THERE, try promotion to the highest level of management in the work place and see how many years you will plateau till retirement, aka HIT THE CONCRETE SEALING. Bro, I don't doubt your experience but you are definitely an anomaly, aka an exception as you are saying that you are here in Canada living the good life. So many West Africans in Toronto are working with InstaCard, Door Dash and doing Uber and Lyft. It is called the GIG economy. You are not in a stable job. The living standard is high in Canada, meaning even the poorest has access to a quality life through the Social Services govt system. Maybe you think that is living the good life equivalent or on par with a person of European ancestry who is at least 3rd generation Canadian and in over 75% of the cases have had a transference of Generational wealth.

I teach ESL so I talk with a lot of newcomers and immigrants as part of my job. The case of one of my students sticks out in my mind. She originally came here from Ukraine because of the war. She wants to get PR status because she wants to settle here and make a life for herself and her family. She was explaining the process to me and she seemed really caught in a Catch 22. She held advanced degrees in mathematics and economics already, but in order to qualify here she would need to go back to school, which would require a different visa than the one she was here on. She was working, but at a low paying job where she was just making ends meet. So she has to decide whether to go back or stay, basically because of bureaucracy and no other reason. She was strongly considering going back home because of how expensive the cost of living is here. And I can't say I blame her. I was born here and if I had the resources, I would move. I would love to move abroad because the standard of living in most European countries is so much better.

They mostly wanted to go to the US or UK, other European countries first but it’s easier to get accepted in Canada.

I'm currently living in France and the system of life is so good than any European countries but I always try to immigrate for a country that speaks English because French language is too difficult ,therefore to study what you want, to have driver license, to work in a good place, everything become compulsory for you to have or know french good level B1 To C1.\n\nin this case you can't do any any progress, life is good really but integration is difficult. \n\nimagine almost 2 years after language, using bicycle as a transport.

Canada is too big for you to fail. I don't live there but 10 years ago I would jumped at every opportunity to be there. Canada has the strickest visa rules most Europeans cannot even immigrate there even if they want. They can enter as tourists but it's residency permit is tough for anyone. I don't know why Bantu think it must be easy for them.

If an African professional from Nigeria regrets coming to Canada you that you've come to frozen outhouse that simply won't give you the opportunity to make your dreams come true. European immigrants that come to Canada end up going back home because the cost of living will overwhelm your income and maintain you in poverty. Only immigrants from the most destitute countries want to remain, but once too many of them congregate in a place the social environment becomes just the same as the place they come from. This is something that could really help my industry if that 65,000 was raised. Everybody knows aviation is a tight industry, and with a massive labor shortage. The flight school I attend is half immigrants, mostly Japanese and Korean with a moderate minority of Europeans and Africans. The Asian students are for the most part wanting to stay in the US, despite not coming from poor nations. The opportunity for a pilot here is leagues above anywhere else bar Europe, but most will likely not even be able to maintain a work visa, let alone a green card. This also means (as pointed out) that leaving the country is hard, and they would only be allowed to fly domestic flights within the country (no flying to Canada). The issues that these highly qualified pilots could solve by being allowed to work in the US airline industry are inconceivable.\n\nIt took my mum (I was born British-American) took 9 years to become a US citizen, I was there for her first swearing in, and the UK is America’s closest ally. Imagine how difficult it is for immigrants not of such nationality.

Discrimination operates in all directions. Channels and messages like these don’t help with the situation. There are many reasons and many who problems. You can’t just narrow this down to 1 of anything. One problem is for decades children were brought up to believe that when they turn 18 or 21 or when they get a full time job or graduate college it’s time to leave the nest . Why? So you can live the life of a bachelor or bachelorett? Party all night or get drunk and do most things you wouldn’t want your parents to know about. Pay outrageous rental fees for some place you’ll never own. Go into debt and in many cases spend years paying off student loans. Yeah, sounds like a good time. The habit should be if parents have room, stay home, save your money and allow your parents to help build that generational wealth. Pay a small rent to help out a little if you want to and your parents accept it. Some people , if they can marry and stay with their family, at least for a few years. This builds a stronger bond with parents and grandparents. The way the last 40 or 50 years has gone has destroyed family and their are many reasons why. Some of the European traditions are smart and we should never have turned away from them

I would never visit Europe, Canada, South America, or Asia because of anti-black racism. The only places I would visit are the African continent, Haiti, Jamaica and Barbados. In these kind of comparaisons, it's always important to keep in mind that Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories. Each province and territory have their own way of doing things. So it's pretty much like 13 countries into 1. One thing in Ontario is not gonna be the same as in BC for example. So, whatever someone experiences in Ontario will not be the same elsewhere. Like taxes for example, it's different from 1 province to another. So, it's best for someone who wants to move to Canada to do their research on each province because they do things differently from one another. \n\nAlso in terms of traveling to countries that are closer, yes the UK gets a point because all the other European countries are closer. But in Canada, when you leave a province for another one it sometimes feels like you left for another country ? . Besides the US and Mexico, Canadian also go to Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Brasil, Argentina, Turks and Caicos(lots of Canadian go there that at one point the island was even considering becoming the 11th province of Canada ?) .\n\nIn terms of diversity, it's not that much different from the UK. All the big cities are very diverse, just like the UK. Also, Toronto is the most diverse city in the world.

The ease of access to people around the world has made issues seem to stretch to far more countries now, whereas back then it was a time of empires. I get that there will be many here who support Trump, many who support Biden, there will be Brit's who support Sunak and the rather vicious words of Suella Braverman, whilst others will be more on the side of Starmer (I'm well aware of all the other parties but they don't stand to gain as much). There will be French people backing Macron, whilst others back Le Pen. We could go through each country all the way to the battle between Fujimori and Castillo in Perú, and the stories are much the same, but how will history judge us when people look back to this time? Will it be another occasion where we demonised those trying to escape the horror of the place they had the bad luck to be born in whilst we were luckier? \n\nI know there is hardship everywhere. I'm struggling more than most and I know I can't keep living this way. However, I don't want to be a part of history people look back at and say ‘if only they did something to help prevent this.’. I would rather be a part of history people look back upon and say; ‘that was a boring time period where nothing important happened’. It's already too late for that. Instead I try to remember that, though I was born into a family who never really wanted me, I was lucky enough to be born into a country that could support me during the hardest times. When you look at immigrants, remember that every one of us has immigrants in our family tree somewhere.

How about when Europeans invade us and committed all kinds of atrocities. They don't like to talk about it. USA is a migrants country and nobody will stop that too late. I was born & raised in Canada, and always planned to move back. \nLived in Taiwan, S Korea, Ireland and now the States.\nAfter losing my mom to cancer in BC - I was shocked with how the health care system has deteriorated. Tests, procedures were scheduled horrendously far apart. She died w/o having one Oncologist appointment. Even more shocking was learning about Canadas rationed inefficient monopoly. \nUntil it emulates Bismarck models of European countries & allows a 4 profit private sector to run alongside, will never move back. Will only vote for the Conservative Party now - which wants to emulate Bismarck models like Germany, Japan & Netherlands to create a strong public sector. \nNDP/Liberal want to maintain the inefficient status quo that wastes taxpayer $ and don’t perform as well

As someone from Belgium that now lives in Columbus OH because of marriage, you're spot on with everything. Safety? Limited. Sprawl? Terrible. Rent? Eh it's not that bad. I make a base salary of $82.5k and my wife makes $50k. Our 2br 1ba apartment's rent is about $1000. It's a nice place, but it has some flaws. Our next place will be around $1500. I've told my wife I don't like the sprawl and lack of public transport here and I want to move to a place where that is less of an issue: Chicago, NYC or Boston. However, the latter two have crazy high rent.\n\nI must add, the terribly unsupported public education system in Columbus is by far the worst reason. My wife is a teacher at a Columbus City School that's almost 100% black. White families put their kids through private schools. The rest of the kids have terrible home lives and are therefore incredibly ill-behaved and under-educated. So much so that the teachers just CANNOT keep up with Ohio's learning standards. By the time these kids graduate (and that's a big IF), they would have learned about 20% of what a regular 18-year old would have learned in most of the world. This is in part due to:\n1. Parents that do not involve themselves in what their children do, and therefore do not discipline appropriately.\n2. Terrible school admins that force teachers to lower their standards to have a high passing rate for the school (otherwise it gets shut down). Also, due to the No Child Left Behind Act, admins also force teachers to teach how to pass state tests (repetitive bullshit) instead of important learning materials and/or critical thinking skills.\n3. A lot of these students are pushed into the gang lifestyle and see no future in their education. They don't even try.\n4. Burned out teachers that grew tired of the negative ROI and start giving out poor and inadequate work packets. However, I don't like blaming teachers, especially because my wife is the hardest working person I know.\n\nIt's hard to see my wife come back every day, exhausted. It pains me both for her and her kids. America doesn't give a fuck about education. The big theory is that they're purposely not giving public schools attention so they can be phased out and private education becomes the norm. And if you can't afford it? That's great, we need factory workers.\n\n\nI might convince my wife to move to Europe eventually (luckily a European marriage visa isn't as stupidly hard to obtain as it was for me to get here). Having kids in America is not something I'd like to think about. For now, I'm taking advantage of this high salary to save as much as I can and focus on advancing in my career. Sadly, that's really the only thing America is good for...

Everything has a price to pay, if you struggle in college, whatever the reason may be, living away from family, being alone, whatever the reason is. This is a price we have to pay for a successful future. Also, parents who really want to send their kids abroad, send them to good tier 1 European countries, Germany, France, Italy, Spain etc., US and Canada is just a slaughterhouse, the amount of money spent on a child's education there is unhealthy, universities in Germany are free, and the living expenses also aren't as expensive as US or Canada, had i known about Germany before I applied to US universities, i wouldve saved my parents a lot of money

If you want to leave, by all means, just leave. No need to whine about it. Most European countries, including Canada, have heavy taxes, so it can pay its multiple social services that I'm sure you used (and enjoyed) at one point. Like we say here: you can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want wealth without contributing to society, go back to the developing world, lol.

What do you want to achieve with your video? At times it looks like a genuine cry from the heart and at times, your words are too harsh on Canada. First, seems you only lived in Vancouver. Would you have the same feeling or solitude if you lived in a more open space like Toronto, Montréal or St- John where geography is totally different. You speak of Vancouver as being an suburb of Seattle. Friend, it’s North America and there’s one culture, one language, one type of city. You can’t wish Canada were a Spain, France or Italy lookalike. If you want a taste of Europe in Canada, then why not move to Québec. With New-Orleans, Québec city or Montréal are the two places with the more European cachet. I understand you like the proximity of European cities and countries and I’m happy for you that you now live in a city where you feel alive and happy. But please, don’t take Canada for what it’s not: Europe. It’s an extension of US. as for weather, it’s a northern country and Vancouver is the London of the west coast. Rainy but mild.
