Finally, an ICE official who is actually spitting facts. Criminal aliens ARE prioritized, and the most serious crimes are top of that list. Any non-citizen who is convicted of a crime that has a possible sentence of at least 365 days - whether the non-citizen served any time or no time at all- is deportable. Two misdemeanors can make non-citizens deportable.

That group includes people waiting for their asylum hearings, DACA recipients and protected status migrants/refugees, and people that have already had their asylum hearings, but are awaiting their citizenship hearings. \nAs for the narrative about 'murderers' and 'violent/horrible' criminals being in our country, it's like....wait...what??? I worked in Criminal Court (NYC Metro area) for many years. We always checked for Immigration Holds on those who were arraigned in our courts. How it plays out is that INS would take a long time to appear where detainee was. Court (local w/ separate budget) wants to process the case quickly just like the local jail want to discharge because it cost money to keep people locked up. If INS is not fast enough to appear the people are released.
