At my university in Vancouver, masters were mostly Indian ? and even undergraduate is also like 100% International students. The difference is the school has several branches located in NJ, Canada, and the UK. I've never heard of a negative event happening though. interesting

This is truly heartbreaking, I feel so sorry for International Students who came here with dreams but were given something far below that. I am a Canadian born student, brought up and raised in Brampton but I made friends with many international students. I don't understand how International students have to pay 3-4x our tuition, cover their living expenses, and have work restrictions on their study permit. The truth is competion is everywhere and companies are competing for top students who go to credible universites. I don't see how international students are suppose to compete with these students when there is a shortage of high-paying jobs. I truly feel bad. I advise students to tell their stories to their younger siblings and cousins back home and prevent them from living a hard-working life with little reward. Advise them to complete their studies back home and find a job in big cities back home. As a domestic student I struggle to pay for my own expenses and I could not imagine if I did not have my parents support. This is fraud on another level!!!

What about rent increasing astronomically because international students are staying with 10 others to be able to afford and landlords are allowing them which is inflating rent.. In my city rent has increased from $700 to $2000 for one bedroom apartment. Canadians are becoming homeless while my local universities is admitting 20 thousands international from India. Not a single building has gone up due to COVID so this put even more pressure on the housing market.

Canada should limit the number of International students coming in per semester.
2022-10-17 0
There is no end to this because this has become profitable for the government and educational institutions. Honestly, the whole International student program should be stopped.

this is the bitter reality of canadian institutions treating international students

This is why I quit my job of 19 years to work for a nonprofit and help international students in various ways and to help them adjust to life here in Canada...thank u for doing this documentary!

I worked with many international students and most of their stories are heartbreaking. \nI wonder how is it possible that we always find a group of people getting away without facing consequences for their actions right in front of the government 's nose.\nThank you 5th estate for your diligent work.

I am an international student and Canada just cares about or money. The education is not what the sold us.

Really good video. First of all Why, International students should Pay 5 times more than Domestic Students. The decent figure would be 2-3 times.
2022-10-17 0
Paying for 1/5th of what an international student pays is a privilege that a Canadian Citizen rightful enjoys. Education doesn’t come cheap. The international students’ parents don’t pay any income taxes that would go into subsidizing post secondary education. Don’t forget Canadians pay some of the highest level of income taxes in the world. Many of these underprivileged Punjabi students chose to the live in the cramped conditions are “being exploited” by their Punjabi landlords.

I would love to a similar documentary regarding the situation of international students in Australia. As a former international this feels sadly familiar.

The problem here is that Canadian government and Canadian colleges think that international students mean Sikh students from Punjab... that's all I saw in this video.. when I saw the title of the video, I thought I might know about international students... but all I'm seeing is Sikhs, Sikhs everywhere... where is multiculturalism? Where are the other ethnicities? Are we missing something here?

Fook international student,, support Canadian student!

My heart goes out to all the international students that have been scammed for their education. I am ashamed of our gouvernement to allow this practice on enrolment number$.
2022-10-16 0
I feel sorry for these students. Not only international students, Canadian citizens even could not distinguish the colleges just being there which sold a lie.
2022-10-16 1
I came to Canada as international student and studied in Public College 10 years ago. There are numerous “Private” colleges in Surrey and Brampton recruit poor international students. The colleges don’t not care.

Thanks for posting real situation of an international student.

Thank you, Fifth Estate for sharing this story to the world. Sorry for all the international students and families getting trap into this scams. Liberal government should take responsibilities allowing this scams to happen.

That's really good information for all international students

One more thing must be mentioned: how international students are exploited by Indian community who came here 20..30 years back itself, these people torture students while living in basements, rented rooms in their houses.\nSecondly, these people hire students at work (mostly factories, warehouses and Indian restaurants) and pay them half the minimum wage, exploiting and stressing them.

My roommate was an international student that struggled severely with her mental health, and she took her own life earlier this year. \nI am so devastated for all of the international students struggling, this needs to be addressed. \nPlease dont give up.

I wanna thank me and all other international students to put billions of dollar to support this poor country’s economy ??
2022-10-15 5
Not only international students but also the local Canadian are suffering too with lack of jobs. There are hardly any houses available for the citizens, to make things worst these international students are overwhelming the situation. Its a loss from both sides, only those colleges and goverment are benefiting

This is very sad?International students tuition fees in canada is overly outrageous. I hope something can be done about it
2022-10-15 0
Hi, it’s a useful video. Thanks for that. Can you share details about monthly income? I mean how much an international student can earn while doing a part time job at a minimum wage in the worst case scenario? By the way, I’m from Sri Lanka

thanks a lot for being the voice of International Student

International Students are All Indians. There should be equal representation of other cultures as well. It seems Canada is being overtaken by Indians.

Former international student in Canada, I just want to say one word, I will never return ever again. I started my own small business with friends in my own country now and living a peaceful and prosperous life. Will never ever return again. Word of advice to those wishing to go to Canada, you are doomed.

At this point, Canadian economy runs on basis of this exploitation of desperate international students.\n\nThousands of houses in BC and Ontario have mortgages that are being paid by international students living in basements.\n\nCanadian housing market would collapse in a day if we didn’t have these many international students coming in everyday.

It's a 5% diffrence it's not a international student problem it's a problem every student faces why are we focusing on a single group when every student suffers no Canadian student or international student is promised anything including jobs our school ment for the high middle class to high class why is this a surprised that this is happening
2022-10-15 0
Pretty simple. Cap the percentage of the student body can be international at all institutions.
2022-10-15 0
Eyes opening video. International students need help. And we should stand with them . Students mustn't be treated like products. Agents care for money only. We should believe in quality and not in quantity.

To all international students thank you for supporting the Canadian economy first ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺

I heard about the suffocating pressure, loneliness and high suicide rates of international students from a university admin over 10 years ago and I'm shocked it only escalated!
2022-10-14 10
As a former international student in Canada who’s gone through all of that; the harsh winters, super high tuition, homesickness, employment uncertainty.. \nmy advice, RESEARCH BEFORE YOU COME TO CANADA. Getting here is easy, staying here and thriving is a whole different story.\nYou will have to work doubly hard, adapt quickly, have a fortitude of steel, and please TAKE CARE OF YOUR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH.\nTo those thinking of going through this journey, all the best to you.

International students pay 3x not 5x. This is an important story but get your facts right.
2022-10-14 0
who is scamming whom? Canada is scamming international students, and international students are scamming back,. Deal with it Canada.
2022-10-13 0
Canada needs to put cap on international students from a single nationality
2022-10-13 5
Wow how has changed. 30 years ago, I remembered that international students were kids living alone in multimillion dollar homes and driving to school in exotic cars.

I am transgender and out, basically broke the relationship with my family. I’m living alone in the US as an international student (CN citizen) and suffering from the living cost and tuition even though I have a part-time job, and I’m gonna lose it soon because I have to change my visa to a student visa that does not allow me to work outside of campus. I am thinking about transferring to a Canadian university because I’m poor and lonely without family anyway (lol), and I just can’t resist the temptation of starting my life again in a different place while healing my trauma. Moreover, it’s more immigrant-friendly (note I am still going through a visa change in the US), maybe I will not be in the daily fear of having to go back to China, where is definitely not trans-friendly. But I’m so anxious on the other hand. What if I end up unemployed; what if I run out of money…I’m simply uncertain about how to find somewhere queer-friendly to survive with a secured shelter and money enough for food. I’m sorting everything out…please let me know if you have any similar experiences in Canada. Anything can be very helpful.

I love this show, but every once in a while the examples of lazy journalism makes me cringe. Why didn't you make that guy back up his claim about the number of international student bodies sent back each month? Should have been easy to fact check, unless you know he was lying and just wanted the outrageous soundbite. You are better than this CBC.

Dilpreet kaur is my classmate and she has become the voice of us international students she stood against the college and gathered other students. \nProud of her

❤Thanks for great work you do and I hope the government will do something about this issue and other issues you report to us.\n❤Charging 5X to foreign students are not fair and unjust and i feel sorry for international students and their families \n❤Many thugs of Sikh community in Canada are doing scams, frauds and corruptions in our innocent and unguarded systems and our government should stop them.\n❤

SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTs
2022-09-30 0
The reason why the gov’t is painting a rosy picture of Canada is because they want to suck people’s money. Either from exoensive international student fees or immigrants who are bled dry from taxes. They want to grow the population so more people will buy goods and services and rent/buy real estate. Essentially you will be a cash cow to support the lifestyle of upper classes. I guess the sacrifice is worth it for people who want to raise their children in Canada.

As a international student I definitely ? agree
