Immigrants bring billions of dollars to the Canadian government every year. Immigrants pay 3x more than Canadians for college tuition. Permanent resident application is over 1.5 k, if you pay a consultant or immigration lawyer, it goes up to 2k to 5k, work permit application 150, study permit 150, plus biometrics 80 cad, plus 1.2 k for a room per month, plus food, plus 200 dollars for the bus per month. Great video and content. As a Canadian who works and travels abroad I think the major reason that newcomers are leaving Canada is the economics. High income individuals will pay over 50% tax and the cost of living is way more than it is for other countries in the world. Obviously, no country is perfect, but I moved to the US this year and really like iit, Canadians can get US work visas like TN or L1 adjudicated at the airport, a huge benefit as US consulates are very slow.\n\nMy reasons for prefering the US:\n\nMuch better career opportunities, paid morre, less tax,most things are cheaper , from eggs to houses, even Amazon..much better selection and variety in the US.\n\n\nLiving in cold weather is bad for your health, sunshine and being outdoors is much better. The long winters in Canada are depressing and bad for your health.\n\nUS has every climate, if I want cold/snow, I can go to Colorado or Montana etc..you can go to Florida, Hawaii ...Vegas NY..\n\n\nMuch better flight options available in the US. In America, Canadians are paid far less than their American counterparts. Across the board. I am one of those after and 33 years in Canada .I am 70 years old and still working to make living. Last week I watched our government meeting. They want to help Canadian citizens help with heating expenses with heat pump. Just think how long will be to install to each house heat pump? ( first cost and Canadian climate no works anyway)No one this people didn’t say we are oil country just built refinery and make heating cheaper. On thanksgiving I was sick and go to the emergency in Winchester hospital and after 2 hours waiting the nurse told me today is waiting time to see doctors is 12 hours and I went home. There are just too many immigrants being let in. I’m shocked at the amount of international students at my college. I feel like its almost 90% are international students trying to get PR and some of them can barely write properly. The quality of work being put out by the students makes me question the integrity of schools. So many of them don’t care about what they’re studying and put minimal effort. All they want is PR. They are not willing to adopt Canadian values and I see people pushing and shoving to get on public transport instead of being civilized. I think immigrants from 30 years ago were a different group. 1) Toronto is poor value. Getting housing of any kind (buying or renting) is stupidly expensive. And the quality you get for the price is lousy. The occasional lip service given to affordability is amusing, but ultimately sad. There are lots of people who really do not want the housing bubble to pop. They will fight against it with all they have.\n\n2) It has become kind of boring. There is lots to do if you have money, but it’s harder to find entertainment on a budget. Even the free stuff like parks are filling up. Stuff like sporting events, eating out, going out is very costly across the board. Even the “cheaper” stuff is expensive. It seems like a lot of local culture is disappearing. Even the cool neighbourhoods are filling up with the same chains. I think the high commercial rent and bureaucracy is deflating a lot of would-be entrepreneurs. Most landowners seem to just be banking on cashing out their land for condos.\n\n3) Canada overall has a high cost of living compared to salaries. In the US you can find lower cost of living areas that still give you a real city experience. And in Europe you can be poor but still live a decent, if no frills, life. In Canada the basic necessities are all expensive. Phone bills, grocery bills, rent, insurance are through the roof. Domestic travel is expensive. And the dollar sucks if you want to travel abroad. Health care is free but good luck finding a family doctor or waiting 8 hours in the ER these days. It’s expensive to be poor, or even middle class.\n\n4) Most of the Greater Toronto Area, outside the core, is soulless suburbs with awful transit - very “American” except with worse traffic congestion. You will need a car, which is another huge cost. Row upon row of old cookie cutter suburbs with the same crappy houses. Good luck walking anywhere, and if you do you will need to walk down boring, treeless arterial roads with cars zooming past right beside you, and cross giant eight lane intersections that were never built for humans on foot. In a rainstorm or on a fall evening you have to be really careful not to be run over by aggressive drivers.\n\n5) It is hard to raise a family in an apartment here. You can do it but it’s not very easy, and also you are still kind of judged for it. Lots of young people are feeling stuck and are deferring or avoiding starting a family. Buying any type of house, even a basic townhouse, requires pledging your soul to a bank by taking a massive mortgage with eye watering debt in a volatile market. But few apartment buildings have the kind of sensible gentle density, the family unit sizes and the common amenities, like little courtyards with jungle gyms, that you might find in Europe. No one ever contemplated that anyone would ever desire to raise kids in an apartment. It’s just a cultural thing that has worked its way into how things are planned and designed.\n\n6) The transit system is ok by North American standards but awful by international standards. There are only two real subway lines, one stub line, one line that is permanently out of service after a derailment, and another line that was supposed to open a couple years ago but still has no date for opening. The subways go out of service frequently, sometimes for the dumbest reasons, and then it is a zoo of shuttle buses. The streetcars are nice but so slow. The buses are fine if you find yourself dreaming about riding a daily herky jerky rolling tin of sardines. They are building a lot of transit but it will take decades to get done.\n\n7) There is still a lot of cool multiculturalism and opportunities to experience different foods and cultures - one of the best things about Toronto. Increasingly though it seems to be losing the fun vibe of the 90s, when everyone celebrated each other’s backgrounds and was chill. It seems the immigration is not as broad based anymore and also people are importing a lot of their “old country” grievances here. The immigration system also kind of preys on people abroad by selling them a false fairy tale, so they end up dejected when they arrive and see how things really are.\n\n8) This one might be controversial but it’s kind of an ugly city. There’s nothing particularly of historical meaning or value. Some of the older neighbourhoods are kind of nice, but the last 25 years they have only built giant glass skyboxes, one after another. There aren’t the cool “missing middle” walkups like in NY, Chicago or Montreal (or even LA). There are very few buildings with much architectural character. Some of the buildings they deem “heritage” here are an embarrassment.\n\n9) For safety, honestly on this score I think Toronto is not bad. There are not too many real “ghettos” and it’s night and day compared to much of the US. With that said, there is more vagrancy and social issues these days, with tents and such. It’s very sad but the shelters are full, lots of homeless go into the libraries, parks and transit system. It does make it harder to enjoy these public amenities safely. It is nowhere close to Europe where you might let your kids run free around town. Canadian parents still helicopter their kids and the place again is not designed to really be safe for kids, in the same way as Europe.\n\n10) Finally, a bit of a double edged sword. Toronto had a lot of youthful energy - people coming here from all over. It is definitely not as sleepy as many parts of the world. With that said, it is becoming a bit of a transient place (minus the world class experiences like London or NY). If you are from elsewhere you might find it hard making and keeping friends. I’ve seen lots of people struggle because it’s is hard to build a strong social network. We have a very “shallow” culture here - people are extremely polite but not overly warm and hospitable. We treat one another kind of like neighbours - meaning we’d like to have a cordial, drama-free coexistence and otherwise kind of stick to ourselves.

The Punjabi Hindus, baniyas, aggarwals and Jains own the urban economy and are comparatively more practical and forward looking in life. Many of these sikh politicians sadly themselves are involved in drug, own illegal abortion centres and labs, and even coaching centres to send students to canada on fake letters in exchange for a lot of money...\nI want to tell the youth, There is a lot of good opportunity in India. I know Punjab doesnt have much as of now (hope someday one of us can take our experience and setup a startup hub there), but other cities like Pune, Hyd, Bangalore, Mum, Chennai etc are good and once you have a stable job, its quite satisfying. Punjabis especially Sikhs are also loved everywhere by common people. Please dont spend your money on fake asylum letters and Canadian Dreams without thinking and planning.

I've seen firsthand that the drug problem here is worse than it was back home, and they're being coddled with no plans to discipline or rehabilitate them. I asked my friends how I could defend myself and my family if a random drug addict broke into our house and stole our belongings; could I at least beat that person up until the police arrived? They said you couldn't because you'd be charged with assault. It's funny. \n\nApart from the crimes and exorbitant living costs despite living in a rural area, even Canadians who have lived in the country since birth are struggling to make ends meet. \n\nSome positive comments, Canada provided me with a work-life balance that was not possible in Asia due to the competitive nature of the corporate world. So I had time to spend with my family, and you don't have to travel abroad to see beautiful scenery. Canadians are also very accommodating and friendly, in contrast to where I came from, where people will not help unless it benefits them as well. The Canadians here are extremely friendly. So Canada is great because of its people, but I can tell you that the government consistently makes bad decisions about how to solve certain problems, such as drugs and harm reduction strategies. Another issue is that they do not recognize internationally trained professionals, which could have helped alleviate healthcare issues in our area, where we have many internationally trained nurses from the Philippines working as restaurant servers and janitors. We have doctors from Kenya who have to work as general laborers and in other odd jobs where they can use their profession and experience to help people. I am also an immigrant, but the government should strategically distribute us based on our qualifications. I chose a rural area because I don't want to add to the number of immigrants in big cities and instead want to contribute to the local economy by bringing my skills and experience to the pool. \n\nCanada is a wonderful country, and I continue to believe so, but the government must reward and do more for its people who are trying their best to make this country great.

Why do we need a 45 yr old mother of 5 from the Philippines to come and make sandwiches at Subway. I mean if free market means a Canadian can open a franchise however their staff is hired by foreign workers. Then this is not capitalism working for Canadians.

A political leader who is a complete fool who has basically destroyed the country in just 8 years . As if all of this wasn't bad enough ...... 5 months of winter from hell . Living in Canada is now an extreme struggle in every way imaginable . One will always struggle . One will always work like a dog . One will very likely fall into extreme debt in Canada just to survive . One has to pay outrageous taxes on their income leaving them with about 50% of what they actually earn after they have paid all of the combined taxes on everything that they buy or services that they use . Forget about ever being able to save money . Incomes are about about 35% less than other advanced than those in other advanced countries for the same skilled job . One will never own a home . One will never be able to start a family . One will always freeze in the winter . Life in Canada has become an absolute hell . The Canadian dream is as dead as dead can be . It is no longer a country where one can earn a decent living , own a home and live a good life . On top of all of this it has an authoritarian government which keeps passing new laws to reduce free speech and civil rights .

We never hear about the cost of immigration to Canadians. We have worked our entire lives (and for many generations) here, paying taxes to sustain the government. Immigrants get here, they get free health care, free education, welfare and I am sure they get extra money too (strange how immigrants can afford winter coats, can afford to pay the high cost of living, can afford cell phones, etc, but don't contribute anything to the health care system or the education system, at least for many years). Meanwhile, we, Canadians, struggle with the inflation and very hight cost of living while getting very poor health care, education and retirement support given how much tax we have paid our entire lives.

Civil servants are useless, I’ve worked in aviation for over 40 years saving lives, fight forest fires with no gov. pension just what I saved. My first visit to Canada (the so called Province of Quebec) was in 1972. If you've had asked me at that time where was paradise, I'd have answered to you that it was right here in Quebec and particularly in Montreal. I spent two years and went back home in 1974. I came back five years later in 1979 with the intent of staying and I did. I've spent decades of wonderful years here, and although I will leave next year, I will still remember with nostalgia the lost best decades (70s, 80s and 90s) I'd have spent in Montreal. I will remember the most beautiful city of the world and what it has become in the years 2000 amd counting. I remember how clean and well maintained that city was; how its people were among the most polite and civilized in the World; how life was so easy and affordable; how tolerant as a society the French Canadian one was and so on. Today, all that is gone, and when I take a look at the pile of trashes and garbages on the Ste-Catherine street and Saint Laurent Boulevard, it makes feel sick. In fact, Montreal has become a huge Third World city, and it is not better on a social point of view : you can't walk one block or two without being dragged by a homosexual or a lesbian. Speaking of lesbian and homosexual, you can't keep your work if you don't support the LGBT and or willing to date your boss. I am leaving next year to go back to my country where there is still a seemingly willingness to normalcy, but since the LGBT has managed to sneak its power everywhere, I am not holding my breath of a bright future overthere, but it's my home and I prefer to be there and deal with it.

We can’t lump all immigrants into one single group. But there is one group that are admitted I find repulsive. This group have no intention whatsoever to become Canadians. That is to stay, work, raise family, integrate into Canadian culture and be contributing citizens of the country. This group would spend the minimum required time to become eligible for Citizenship, park their dependence here, utilizing all our social services, including health and education for children. The head of the family then returns to the home country to earn money without paying our taxes as they are deemed non-residents. At retirement age, these non-resident “Canadians” would return as retirees to claim our social services , including “free” healthcare. There are at last count approximately 250,000 “Canadians” in Hong Kong, I am sure there are a lot more in other countries. Whenever there are political or war trouble these people would scurry back, sometimes even demanding Ottawa to send airplanes for them.\nI don’t believe in “a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian”. You are a Canadian only if you fulfill the responsibilies of a Citizen.

There is an adverse selection in the cohort of immigrants leaving Canada. Immigrants with skill and money will likely leave Canada, sometimes after obtaining the easiest-to-get citizenship among G7 as insurance policies, for greener pasture or return to their home countries. Thus, leaving behind unskilled immigrants working min. pay menial jobs. Many 2-year colleges in Canada, like Langara, also exploits international students with bait-and-switch schemes and false promises. These int‘l students will not gain meaningful employment after graduation but continue to work min. pay menial jobs. Depend on their home countries, some will stay, but others from more advanced economies will likely leave Canada. Thus, leaving Canadian tax payers holding the bags. \nInflation and housing are also high in other countries, but there are more high pay jobs too. \nThat‘s why the federal govt decides to address this issue. It is too late, I think.\nYes, I will also be leaving Canada soon. I don‘t want to cough up over 50% marginal tax to subsidize drug addicts, criminals, etc.

People do believe immigrants can contribute. Canadians are not opposed to immigrants but the pace of immigration, the housing shortage, lack of infrastructure, social services and our health care and the costs of all these services with high interest rates. How many immigrants are skilled trades people and willing to work in construction. What are the barriers to immigrants being employed in these sectors and is this being addressed.

I know a lot from working all over canada and they come for the free money and health care and school, as soon at they are legal canadians every single one I know/knew left because they don't want to pay the high tax and cost of living, 1 guy I was friends with for a year showed me what he got to come here and it was = to 10 years pay for me at that time. Then he sold the house and cars and left after his temp visa expired, I know of people in AB and on the east coast working here and living 5 and 6 guys in a 3 bedroom and they send every cent back to their own country so they can buy land and housing, For them it's a great get rich quick plan, The one guy I knew for a year offered to pay to have my car fixed and I said no but he insisted it was free on his free tax payer supplied credit cards, If I was not from here and they offered me all this money and stuff Id be here doing the same thing, 5 years here makes you rich when you go home. 2 bedroom condo in Mexico is $85g so if I offered you a good job that will get you a house paid off and lifetime of saving in just 5 years but you have to live in another country would you do it. 100% I would Im looking at my adult kids who will never own a home if they stay here vs the people coming over for 5 years then their set, All my kids are planning to move to a new country for this very reason they are saving and then getting out when the depression hits.

Truth is that the immigration system has been a source of income and financial gain for the system but gives little back. Sadly many Canadians think the opposite is true. They think because refugees are given shelter while waiting for processing that means they receive support more than the locals. Truth is immigrants come here mostly on loans, spend years working and spending to support families back home, it takes years to understand the taxing, credit, wealth, education and many other resources that drives the Canadian community. This put immigrants in a position where they work more than the local just to meet the bare minimum life standards. If many of the immigrants knew the ins and outs of the system, then they would really take over and appreciate being in canada. \n\nCanadians and canada as a whole are welcoming. You might meet a few who have little knowledge of the global system and standard against immigrants, something that their countries economic system depends on. Remember your countries have never lived without immigration. From the day the first white personal stepped onto this lane, immigrants have continued to come in more different colours. It’s our duty to focus on making life better not on how we can make life harder for others. Wanting to live in canada with your own specific community and wanting others to stay away from a land that has been shared for decades is just a selfish stand. We all love canada because we all find peace here.

It’s been 5 years for me here and I honestly can say I have achieved nothing in my life yet. It scares me when I think I can’t return whatever my parents had invested in me. The fact is you’ll never have a good paying job in Canada being an immigrant. When I say this trust me I mean it. Most you’ll get is a minimum wage job which can make you survive the life here. Taxes are high definitely and what I feel is you’re working to make someone else’s life easier. \n(P.S: people who’ve stayed in Canada will understand who I’m implying to)\nNo one wants to be your freind, scope of socializing is zero coz mostly it’s cold round the year so everyone hardly come out, especially in Northern provinces like Yukon, Saskatchewan, Manitoba.\nHealthcare is a joke. If you feel sick and not well and you wanna see a doctor be prepared to wait for hours and hours. I once had stomach infection and I had to wait 5 hours till someone could see me. I asked for painkiller at-least so I could bear the pain but they refused that as well. You might well see someone you love dearly and with whole heart die in-front of you and you could do nothing. (I’ve experienced it myself hence saying)\nYou’re a lone survivor who’ll always keep fighting. \nThe only person who can make money here is businesses and high paid jobs which are reserved to Canadians. That’s how Canada’s job market is. Canadians’ first and if there’s something left they’ll look at you. By the amount of money people invest here they can establish a nice business back in their country itself and earn accordingly on own terms. \nMost importantly you’ll cut yourself from all emotional supports like family, freinds etc.\nI was social person back in India who liked making new freinds and memories but it’s nothing like that here. \nAnd it’s the same life, no different.\nYou wake up, dress, eat, go to work, come back, eat, sleep. No different.\nNo fun and nothing. You actually don’t live in present, you live in an expectation of a better tommorow.\nYou’ll always have a smile when you greet someone but I guarantee you no one’s gonna check on you to if you don’t start a conversation even with a simple “Hi”. Mostly Canadians are nice but again some will systematically judge you and say nothing but you’ll see in their actions, the way they’ll talk in a twisted way etc.\nYes I’m not saying that Canada’s bad or it’s no good but trust me it will take forever to build a life here especially with the number of people moving here from round the world. \nIf you’re well off financially from back home Canada’s a paradise for you. Indeed it’s a beautiful country with lots of beauty and lots to explore but remember everything comes with a cost here. Everything comes with a cost. People need to stop believing in this fake illusion and come only if they got a purpose here. The only reason why they’ll let you in the country is for money and once you’re in you’ll have to keep spending, doesn’t matter if you’re broke or whatever you have to.\nOnce I earn I’ll happily give up my PR status and go back to India as i very well know what the situation is how it’s gonna be in future.\nSo just one piece of advise to every middle class person like me, guys please invest and spend your money wisely coz we know how hard it is to earn and it’s high time Canadians start appreciating what immigrants like us do for them by burning ourselves day and night and start realizing that their past generation once came from some other part of the world as well and settled here. Being white doesn’t make you a nice Canadian, you’re actions defines you more than your words. \n90% of this country is built by immigrants and that’s how it’s gonna develop in future, so if they keep treating us the same way good luck to them ?.\nAlso a plus note to anyone thinking that Asians are stealing your jobs, go get outside and have the balls to face them and take it away from them. Staying home and ranting and abusing us that we’re taking your opportunities and blah blah isn’t gonna work. We are so successful round the world because we are hardworking, honest and respectful to everyone. Even if we’re earning minimum and barely surviving here we always make sure we’re not burden on the government or anyone else and won’t keep crying.\n\nA big shoutout to all you guys who came here in the hope of a better future but are still struggling.\nKeep hustling and you’ll reach there, if not step down and go back and start your life again on your home soil. I'm leaving next year as well. I've been in Canada for 5 years now and I love Canada.\nBut practically i don't think i can ever buy a house here and start a family. I'm 24 and i came here when i was 19. But looking at the way things are changing in Canada, the amount of tax burden it puts on honest tax payers because of illetrate immigrants from some parts of the world, refugees and people who don't wanna work is astonishing.\n\nMoreover Trudeau keeps giving away the money which is ours and keeps feeding others. Hence I've had enough. Canadians are nice but the government and some sections of society especially some Punjabi's are way too much for me to handle now. Canada isn't Canada anymore. People are trying to change it and make us believe in their faith.\nI'm Indian and when i came to this country i came to live the way it was but sadly it's changing fast. \n\nI'll be done in next 7-8 month. \nGod bless Canada ❤️

I am Canadian citizen I came to canada in December -1980and still homless cannot find affordable place my government cheque only 1359 apply for government housing last8years ago but in vain whole life work as labour

Why doesn’t the Canadian government focus on its own citizens to grow the population and economy if that is their major goal. Why not make it more affordable for young Canadians to start a family? We spend $6B a year on bringing in immigrants, why not increase the child benefit with these funds? Why not teach good family values in Canadian schools and promote healthy relationships? Instead our government lets in young adults who aren’t vetted and want to work in retail/tech and bring their parents their grandparents their uncles and aunts over from their home country who then live off of CPP after not paying one penny into it. (This is what I have seen in my town, may not be representative of all of Canada)
