It's good to know that it isn't just Australians who lack empathy. I'm a 28 year old Canadian, I don't want this to come off sounding like a pity party, so I'll keep it brief for all and any of those thinking of moving here. I live with my parents because I could never afford the rent (and I don't even live in a major city like Toronto); my buddies moved in together and paid 1600 a month for a SMALL 2-bedroom apartment and they STRUGGLED to find an apartment. everyone I talk to is struggling and scared about their mortgage payments. My parents built a new home just a few years ago and got screwed over at every turn and on every level, their only saving grace was that their lumber package was locked in so they didn't have to worry about the lumber inflation. the job market is straight up trash and we're taxed through the teeth for every little thing. On the news we see stories about immigrants having to go back to their country because they can't afford to live here or find affordable housing. don't move here, it's shit.

As much as I'd like to blame it all on the Trudeau government, many of Canada's problems are systemic. Also at least some of the housing cost issues can be blamed on the previous Conservative government, who did everything they could to kick the can down the road and keep the house price gasbag inflating. We should have had a proper correction after the 2007/8 global financial crisis, but we didn't. However the Liberal government has done nothing in the last 9 years to improve things, and in fact the record high immigration levels have undoubtedly contributed to housing demand.

This is false, the cost of rent was never like this. A simple secretary could afford a 4 bedroom apartment in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

I came to Canada as an immigrant. I am very educated person and with multiple advanced degrees. I cannot make a decent living there due to discrimination at work and the gradual increase cost of living. I moved out of Canada to live in the States where I am making so much money and opportunities are plentiful. I wish for every Canadian who could move to the states, just do it.

The problem will accumulate. So if we thought it was bad after year #1, it could get worse. The two (available finished housing, newcomers) must be in balance. Housing costs will NOT stabilize UNTIL the necessary new supply comes into being.

While the US and the EU debated whether or not 0.3% of the total population per year was more than could be supported over the long term, that idiot Trudeau has been holding at 1.1% of the total population per year. Now we are 4.5million family residences in arrears in a country that only has about 14.5million residences. I am an immigrant, close to become a Canadian citizen. I chose Canada to live with my family and I love this country. \nThat said, I could not agree more with what was said. Things are completely out of control. We can't bring that many people and have no infrastructure to support them. Housing, health care, everything is in a crisis because of Trudeau. even my country is doing this mistake , you could have made around 1.4 k euro as a food delivery guy now because a of indians came here a lot of the people that worked those jobs quit and moved abroad again , and this indians make about 700 euros but they pleased because they have housing and food given so they sent all the money back wich is like 3 salaries there probably , this sort of imigration is not sustainable

I was misdiagnosed for year and could have died when I went to the emergency room. I needed surgery and was told my wait would be two years. Then, when I went to Serbia to have life-saving surgery, the government would not refund the cost, because they decided it was not an emergency—I “could have survived with a catheter”. The doctors in Canada are kind and lovely people, but they are just overworked. The system is completely broken.
