I ended a highly successful, well-paid 20+ year career, sold everything I owned and was gone within six months. I am not a religious person, so that did not factor into my decision, though I knew what was coming since I had lived for years as a member of a minority that was constantly demonized by former Liberal rulers for decades.\n\nI completely understand your reasons for leaving and wish you all the best. Canada was a great place to grow up in and I wouldn't trade that experience for the world, but to say that it is now going through a process of state-funded and engineered societal decay would be an extreme understatement. The world is just getting over Covid and the havoc it caused to economies. This is the aftermath of checks written to citizens, landlords unable to evict tenants who did not pay rent, slowed supply chains because demand for goods went down the toilet, etc. The US is just now bouncing back but other less resilient countries will be suffering the Covid hangover for years to come.

I left in 2006 for better opportunities. The city was declining back then but slowly. Come back for a visit every few years and astonished how awful getting around the city is and just how little the city has to offer. It mirrors the decay of Canada as a whole.
