After 911 I went to the CAF recruiting Center in Mississauga. I was born in Canada in 71, but went to university at The Ohio state university from 91 to 95. Since in lived outside Canada within 10 years for more than a year I needed to wait for DHS in the US to do a background security check on me…a Canadian. I retired from CAF in 2017, after 12 years of service….do the math on when, and therefore, how long, it took me to join. Go Canada. Now we recruit non citizens to out CAF? Canadian I would say are the worst stereotypes I have encountered so far after being in Europe, USA, China, Middle East etc. once I tried to be Canadian resident and experienced a heart trenching straight behaviour from immigration, lawyers and officials. They don’t seem to possess a simple wisdom or foresight a progressive nation must have. They are stuck in a tunnel vision of being nicer or western or straightforward people without thinking out of the box incapable of accepting a little change or flexibility. Being a technical person I obviously got panicked to be a part of that system with hopeless outlook, so decided not to be part of it when millions were dreaming of Canada. Thanks God to guide me and escape from a torturous life of working mechanically for decades just to fulfill a foggy dream of owning a house and a car in a cold hell.

Lived in Canada during the oil crisis. You can immediately tell that the country relies solely on oil and gas. Their STEM graduates will mostly go into oil and gas for jobs and if that industry tanks, that goes the job market. The software engineering grads have the option to go to the US and they do. So Canada does not need more skilled immigrants because their own skilled citizens can't get jobs. They need the low wage immigrants to fill the low and manual job force. So,you don't have to imagine what will happen if those people can't get a job.
