Recently I took a walk at the famous White Rock pier in BC, as I've done over the years. But this time during a long weekend, I was shocked that 95% or more of the visitors on the pier were Punjabi families, most of whom spoke only their own language. I felt like I was the outsider. \nThis is the Canada that Justin Trudeau and his father had envisioned for the rest of us. \nNot assimilation, but asian diversity.

I wanted so badly to become a Canadian but sadly, after living in Vancouver for 1.5 years, it became apparent that staying in BC would mean never being able to afford to start a business (let alone buy a house) and that making friends was not something locals were interested in doing. I discovered that Canadians were exceedingly polite and helpful to others in the community, but not friendly. The difference is someone being kind enough to return a lost wallet (with the money/cards still in it!! WOW) or phone but won't invite you to their homes, join friend groups, or social circles. Side note.. I also learned that I prefer more overt racism than the polite version experienced in Canada. At least you know where you stand with someone..

I think the reason why some immigrants are emboldened to disrespect Canadian culture and values is because people are taught a false narrative. For a long time, we were taught that Canada is an immigration country and all are welcomed. It makes immigrants believe that our tolerance has no bound.

I really hate when people say there is no culture in Canada!! How so? Of course Canada doesn't have long history but still Canadians need to protect their identity. Our feds are actively promoting with advertising to come to Canada in India. I don't know this for sure but a few Indians have posted comments to this effect to me...So, I don't so much as blame the Indians for wanting to come when our government is actively promoting such things. It seems to fly in the face of what a lot of Canadians want these days and they haven't gone out of their way to inform the Canadian public that they are doing such things, but the mood in this country has really gone sour in the last few years and the feds either don't care or are too incompetent to know that...

The real problem is that Indians don't assimilate very well. In Fiji Indians were first brought in 1879. After more than a century they finally took over the government. This has led to 4 coup de tat. I personally wonder if Pierre Trudeau implemented a plan of social engineering in order to destabilize English speaking Canada. A very real problem is legislation that has favoured minority groups. The 1984 Multiculturalism Act has stifled debate on the subject and the Employment Equities Act of 1986 has allowed minority hiring quotas to discriminate against the majority. Just remember that it was Canadians that voted for this.

Being Indian, I think your government should have clear mapping between immigrant and value she is adding to economy. Canada is one of the least densely populated major countries and the problem for your housing prices is less than 1M immigrants over the past 2years? And you're going to lead your causes of this problem with that? Give me a break.\nSpend more time on WHY building new houses is not profitable enough and is disincentivized. Talk about how incentivizing home ownership as a wealth building vehicle turned into a bubble and a ponzi scheme as those housing investments outpaced other investments. You know who can still afford to buy up houses, hold them, and prevent the market from deflating? Corporations. Shifting taxes that hurt poor people (like income and sales taxes) onto land value taxes would stop most of this. It would become expensive to sit on vacant investment houses and corporations and landlords would be forced to sell them.

Thank you for educating Canada. Most of these students are not at fault but unfortunately, they are trying to stay in Canada. We need to control this immigration problem. The strain on housing and the medical system is out of control. I truly believe that the Liberal government is trying to destroy the country. They are unable to do basic math. The school is not responsible for monitoring the number of visas given out. It is the government that allocates the visas. Embarrassing that they are blaming the schools.
