Back about 15 years ago I was down in Indiana on Ohio. In the people I met in the Midwest states. Great people laid back hard workers. America might have its problems, but so does Canada. Lot of similarities between both countries. And as for Canada's free health care. It's not so good right now. People are having hard time finding doctors. People wait hours to get into appointments. The only thing nice about free healthcare. Is it's free for some people and relatively affordable for other people. But it's not the best healthcare in the world. Like people said, least in America, you can go in and see a doctor and you're in and out pretty quick. But if you don't have free health care yet pay for it

I lived in Texas for a few years. I didn't find much difference between the U.S. and Canada. Paying a copay to see a doctor and expensive prescription drugs in America was the only big difference. I had good health insurance there, so I found it really good. I was shocked to get a warrant for my arrest because I didn't show up to traffic court though haha. Both countries have pros and cons.

I am part American from my dad. One thing that stops me from moving to the US is there is no medical coverage. I do not pay to see a doctor.

He was in pain and the nurses would not give him any pain medication in the emergency waiting area, wait for the doctor. He called me at work and I took pain killers to him in the emergency room. He was in the emergency room for 14 hours before he saw a doctor, had to sleep upright overnight.\nIf any American favor's our universal medical system as it is so called free (comes from taxes we pay) come try it and see if you like it. Was able to see a specialist within 5 weeks. That specialist sent me to a heart surgeon a few weeks later who scheduled an Arterial Ablation day surgery in December. (I walked out 6 hours later...) Lots of pre-surgical and post surgical testing and follow-up. As it turned out, the other side of my heart also required the same surgery, and by March that was completed successfully too. Again, multiple follow-ups and tests, and I've got a totally symptom-free outcome.\nI had a hip replacement a few years ago that went well and resulted in a totally pain free hip that allowed me to return to normal activities I could no longer enjoy before surgery.\nTotal cost in the US for both these types of surgeries would have likely been well over $100,000. The most I paid was for the hospital parking...\nIs it better in Canada? - Absolutely...!!!

10-15 minutes to see a doctor in the ER ? Damn, In Montreal, it takes about 20-24 hours !!!

We do have our issues here in Canada. You won the lottery if you have a Family doctor here. I've been waiting more than 7 years for one as it is a wait list thing. Even with that, I'd refuse to pay to see a doctor in the US.

90% of us live an hour from the border.. so it makes sense for us to use the social health care when we can. and if we REALLY need it. We can still go pay in the :USA.. My wife if from Mexico and when we have kids we are moving back to Canada so she gets paid $1400 a month or more to STAY home and take care of our children. once they are ready for school we are moving back to Mexico where we both want to be. Canada is just where we come when we need to make extra money with my job. Trudeau RUINED Canada beyond all repair. I can see a Neurologist in Mexico for $1500 pesos... $115CAD immediately. Canada that would be a solid 6 month process...1-2 months to see you family practician and then 3-6 months to hear back from a specialist....THEN another 1-2 month to go over results with your Doc again lol...its a joke. Doctors get paid everytime we swipe out health card.. so theres also a problem with them referring to their friends from school...rather than the BEST specialist for you.... first world problems..

10 or 15 minuets wait time in Emergency in the US. More like 10 to 15 hours here in Canada. Saying that I still would rather have our system because after you see the doctor you won't be in debt.

WOW that's amazing you have a co-pay to see your doctor. Never in my life have I ever paid a penny for any doctor's visit, no matter what it was.

Your healthcare system, your prison system, your pharma system is all for profit. Canada negotiated with pharmaceutical companies for lower prices and because of that Americans are coming to buy their drugs in Canada. We've actually had to restrict the purchases of medication if you don't have a Canadian address. AND poor people in Canada can still see a doctor or go to hospital without going bankrupt.

The copayment system also stops people seeking medical help early.many middle and lower income people cannot afford to see a doctor when symptoms first begin. This is why so many people are in such advanced state of illness when they finally seek help

$6.940 with silver health care is pretty average to pay in America for child birth .Also that's if its a normal birth no complications, even charge for SKIN ON SKIN contact with YOUR OWN BABY ?!?!?!?!? we lived in the USA for 14 years and actually because citizens before we moved back to Canada, and to this day, maintain dual citizenship. The health care was the biggest difference. Fighting with health care providers to get them to pay their portion of a bill was the WORST. They automatically turn down every claim the first time around so you have to get on the phone and fight with them. In the USA, you can only see doctors within your health care provider, or you have to pay full on to see someone outside it. You also have to pay to see your family doctor even if its for a annual check up. NONE of that happens in Canada. Health care in Canada is provided by the government. Health care in America is a BUSINESS, and they are all fighting for your $$. Being self employed in the USA was an eye opener, with a $1100. a month premium, so that we had a reduced annual deductible. No deductible or monthly premiums in Canada. Americans should NOT HAVE TO DECLARE BANKRUPTCY just because they get sick. Otherwise, we loved living there. Great people, awesome Mexican food (you can't get that in Canada), beautiful beaches and excellent access to them. Amazing highway systems,. At the time we lived there, housing was affordable, food and clothing were cheaper than Canada. None of that is true these days. You guys pay as much as we do for food and shelter.

I think greed is the main reason for the problems in the USA. Canadian doctors don’t make the,only American doctors do. But the are very comfortable and happy. Big pharma gouges the America people. Not fair. You shouldn’t have to make a choice of paying groceries or brining your child to a doctor. Can that be the reason for their state of mind. They see the upper class living in huge beautiful homes and drive big luxury cars and they are stuck in their poor area. Not fair. Maybe things need to change at the top.

We have pondered moving to the US but it always scares me thinking of all the service safety nets behind. I don't know how many Americans know this, but basically at birth you are assigned a health card which you keep for the rest of your life. Anytime you go to the doctor they ask for that and it has all your info on it (family doctors, your address, etc) and that's all you do. See the doctor and then leave. Private/work health insurance is more for prescription, dentists,massage, therapy, physio, eye, ambulance rides,etc. \nBut childbirth, ER visits, doctors visits all covered by that card...which is funded by our are taxes. We are taxed to hell and back on the daily but it's just so normal you don't think differently of it. We do have a shortage of Dr's though. An ER wait can be upwards of 2-4 hours and your family doctor can take weeks to get an appointment with so you usually have to go to a hospital or walk in if it's urgent.\nAlso, guns. Guns guns everwhere ? I saw a sign when I was walking into Walmart in Florida saying to not bring guns inside and I just couldn't believe that was a thing that had to be said. In Canada, guns are for hunting and going to the range and that's the only time they're allowed out of their safe. Obviously you have people who have stolen and smuggled guns and that's how you get gun crimes (you need a special card to buy guns and ammo, that you get after passing a gun safety course and *most* gun crimes are not committed by people who hold those cards). I appreciate the fact that you don't have so many restrictions on the types of guns you can get but man, I never felt so rattled just walking around after seeing that sign

Been in Canada for approximately 25 years. I can say that the effect that Canada has on a legal immigrant is neither here nor there. It the meds that you and/or your insurance pays for. Some medical equipments may be paid for by either or both the individual/insurance and the government depending on eligibility. \n \nBy and large, there’s cleanliness of common spaces. There’s also safety and relative peace. At least wherever I have lived, I can’t tell you how many times I forgot to lock my door with impunity. \n \nThere’s a lot more stressful work here in my opinion, but like you said Lynn, systems work a lot more efficiently and effectively. \n \nThe elephant in the room is the extra hard work that those living abroad must put in to fulfil expectations back home. Obviously if he has a personal driver in Nigeria, then he is part of a very wealthy minority back home, thus his experience and life is much better back home. Canada has better equality in every way than Nigeria & in my own home country as well, if you want to be in a country that tries to give a decent quality of life for everyone equally and not just a high quality of life for a small minority, then he's right, stay in Nigeria. Canada will humble you if you don't have the competitiveness to earn a good life, it's a country designed to serve the masses, not just you personally. THE BIRD FEEDER ANALOGY \n \nI bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with birdseed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it was, as I filled it lovingly with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. \n \nBut then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop! It was everywhere, on the patio tile, the chairs, the table…everywhere! \n \nThen some of the birds turned mean. They would dive-bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. The other birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. \n \nAfter a while, I could not even sit on my own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. \n \nSoon, the backyard was back to like it used to be…quiet, serene, and no one demanding their rights to a free meal. \n \nNow let us see here… \n \nOur government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, and free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen. \n \nThen the illegals came by the tens and hundreds of thousands, millions. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; your child’s 2nd grade class is behind other schools because half the class doesn’t speak English. Canadians are smart with procedures, regulations, and laws. Their red tape will make even a qualified doctor give up and turn to be a taxi driver. There is no way you can work in canada without the right papers. People spend years repeating education they completed so as to get certified to work. People may be silent, but canada is one of the most expensive countries on earth. I got a rude shock when I went visiting, and I can assure you to burn your fingers if you go there and assume it's like the USA where you can work jini ya mwamba. I've been living in Toronto for over thirty (30) years with a little two years try in Halifax, which didn't work due to the lack of meaningful jobs.\nWhen I arrived here in the late 80th I was very impressed with all the services provided and the speed to see medical professionals.\nI'd spent almost 10 years without a family doctor since my first one retired, and now I'm fortunate enough to have one who is so busy that I have to wait months for an appointment.\n\nIt is painful to notice that already paid services are disappearing and how dirty and dangerous this, once an amazing city, is today.\n\nI'm retired now just waiting for my wife to do the same to move out of this country, with the hope that our very low combined pensions will be enough to live somewhere else.\nMoving out of the city, even out of the province, it is not an alternative since anywhere out of here, includes having a car with all the expenses that this include.\n\nSad reality for retirees and specially for young couples with children in tow.\nSoon we will see this beautiful country devoid of human qualified presence to support all the neglected refugees that are coming.\n\nWho knows, maybe this is a new experiment on how so many homeless people can survive the harsh winter.\nGreetings from Toronto.

Please if your headaches keep recurring, try and make time to see a doctor, speaking from experience. I had recurring headaches headaches that will subside with pcm for weeks, then finally decided to just go to the hospital and it turned out to be life threatening. Long story short, I was admitted in the emergency ward. So please have it checked sis, make time for you.

I think you got it wrong with giving the point to Canada for healthcare. I lived the majority of my life in Canada paying punishingly high taxes fir our glorious “free healthcare “? You know the one where you wait for 9 months to get a cat scan and then another 5 to get it analyzed. Here in the USA as a working professional I pay a modest buy up fee to my employer’s healthcare provider and actually get to see a doctor in a timely manner and have standard procedures done quickly. Not the case in good old Canada.

The medical treatment and facility is much better now in India. You can go to any specialist on one or two days prior appointment. While it takes weeks or some times 3 to 4 months to get to see a specialist in western country. And majority of doctors in western countries are Indians. Over all today's India quality of life and ease of living is much better than earlier years when people use to migrate to Canada ,UK or USA.

Canada has been ridiculously good to me and for me, even as I appreciate that this is not the average experience. I came here 36 years ago, when there were jobs looking for people, and not the other way around. Back then we had the choice to skill up some more or go in full force in careers, which worked for many of us. I can see how tough it would be for new immigrants now, especially professionals who were already established back in Africa not wanting to get re-validated in order to practice here. That is a journey best played out by new engineers, doctors and other crucial professions where they have time on their side and not feel like they are giving up much to start from scratch. Canada is great but each person has to weigh their reason for wanting to be here. If the scales tip this way, then one has to fully commit to the move to make it work. Otherwise, truly look to make that success happen wherever you are ..... Africa, Asia or Australia. It IS possible!

He probably was a doctor in the private system. The public system in every nation is suffering underfunding and is overtaxed. Hence doctors in Canada are always rushed to see as many patients as possible in one day.

As an older person who migrated decades ago after protesting in my old country, I encourage young people below 45 to FIGHT for your countries. Fight bad goverments. 7 billion people on the planet cannot move to the few western countries that seem to work and appear attractive on the surface, it’s not possible. A doctor has a target of about 15 to 20 patients to see per day and rushes you out of his office because the corporation he works for only cares about money and KPIs! You really aren’t allowed to interact with patients and provide personalized service. A pharmacist has to fill anything between 200 to 350 prescriptions, give a certain number of immunizations and see a certain No of patients per day. There is no time for niceties! A corporate professional May work remotely but has to deliver on so many projects he is up till 10pm and only gets up to eat. We have beautiful homes, drive nice cars etc but MUST work like the clock in an assembly line fashion! Most of us pay so much of our income as taxes we end up with less than 70% as paychecks! Things aren’t always what they seem!

Comments from a Canadian. Homeless people are generally concentrated in the larger cities but in the past few years it has become a real problem. It is a real problem for the people when the temperature drops to -30C. Mental wellness is a huge issue. The racism issue is mainly against the indigenous. The doctor migration to the US is a money thing, not better conditions. Getting a family doctor is easy in some places and difficult in others, generally in rural communities. Getting a reference to a specialist is not an issue and I believe this may be a doctor specific issue. If your GP does not refer you, ER will take care of you. The issue with referrals is the triage system that may result in a longer wait to see the specialist. This is in contrast to the US where one can see a specialist very quickly, if one has insurance. In Canada, every citizen and legal resident has the ability to receive medical care as covered by the provincial medical systems which differs from province to province. Many doctors are now offering online communication with your GP and specialist. Your finance comments are inaccurate. There are 5 nation wide banks but there are also nation wide credit unions and provincial banks which in my opinion these tend to offer better service than the big 5 (exclude National Bank, which is big bank but more investment focused). Cell carrier monopolies is a real issue. Cell carriers are recently offering unlimited data, no long distance to the US, etc. Other countries have a definite advantage here. The government has enabled conditions for a new carrier a few times but eventually, these smaller carriers get swallowed up by the big national carriers. More recently Rogers bought out Shaw which limits our choices further. Sales tax is not always 10-15%. In Alberta the sales tax is 5%. Passing courses and evaluations ensures there are standards which is a good thing. Would you want a Civil Engineer designing a road or bridge that is not suitable for the climate? How about a doctor with questionable credentials? Agree with your recommendations for hiring. It is expensive to hire and train a new employee but can be much more expensive to fire an employee. Agree with the housing crisis comments and the reasons. Getting an absent owner to fix a property? This is crazy inaccurate. Multi-dwelling properties have property managers paid to look after the properties regardless of who owns it. While on the average, foreign investment may not seem to contribute to property prices, this is not the case when looking a the local sectors of the big two - Toronto and Vancouver. There was a case in Vancouver where a property with a shack sold for over $1MM. This is not because the house price was unrealistic, but because of the property location and perceived property value. This is a direct result of foreign investment in houses in the Vancouver area resulting in a lack of properties. Many of these foreign owned single family investment properties remain empty most of the year. Another big issue in many Canadian municipalities is the lack of building code enforcement. The laws are in place but not always enforced.

I think this video is right on all topics but in Quebec the government does not allow any religious symbols if you work for the public sector. Canada's medical system is a joke and not a funny one. I have been without a doctor for 6 years now. \nI work in the high rise sector and what she said about the shoe box size homes is completely accurate. I am disgusted with the pathetic size of the average condo unit, now 493 sq feet. There's no health care in Canada!!! Finding a family doctor or walk-in clinic is impossible!!! This country became a disaster and nightmare!!! one has to go to a hospital emergency and wait for 5 hours to see a doctor for a minor or any problem. What kind of country is that?

This Canadian lived in Orange County CA for 10 years. I took my the 12 year old with me. I had been offered my dream job and was paid enough to have a good standard of living. However, I lived in an immigrant community to save money as I found many of the high schools were horrid compared to Canada. I had not realized the school to school inequality to be so extreme and my kid changed to independent study at home. So with a Canadian elememtary education, they graduated high school a year only while skipping no courses..\n\nMy kid had medical issues and even with good HMO insurance, we could never get a decent diagnosis until it had gotten so bad that their digestive system was so wrecked. I finally sent them back to Canada for the surgery that we could not get in the USA. It seemed the insurance companies kept getting in the way. And in one case a doctor went all religious on us. After 6 years of almost continuous pain they finally got relief for a decade until the prior damage came back to haunt them However, after a year of university ib Canada my kid went to a private university in the eastern USA. They have decided to remain in the USA and now in their mid 30s, they make really good money anf have top line medical insurance which pays for the ongoing care they need because of the damage caused by delays when a teenager. \n\nI found life in the suburbs of Orange County nice but the OC is not a good place to meet people. When after 10 years there, in 2010 I returned to Vancouver to care for my elderly mother. I had been living alone for 6 years by then and was offered the first job in Vancouver anything close to me dream job there. and I returned to Canada at age 59. I had been approved for a green card in 2008 but there was a 6 year wait for it to come through. But I noticed the racism in the USA start breaking out all over the place when Obama got elected. And it has gotten worse and worse every year. Especially with 45 enabling it so much. \n\nMy circle of friends in Southern California are mainly good people and not at all like what we call MAGA-hats now. Except one who thinks 45 was the greatest. Politically, the USA is on the path that Germany was on in 1933 and I fear for the US Democracy if the Orange One gets in again. Even my kid and their spouse have bug out plans to head to Canada just in case. This is why my kid, while having a green card has never taken US citizenship. Besides, being a Canadian has not affected things the two times they got security clearances \n\nWhile most Americans are good people, it seems that about 25% have gone just plain loco and care nothing about democracy. And appear to prefer the USA to be a totalitarian theocracy \n\nI was there long enough, paying the maximum FICA taxes for 10 years to get a small pension from Social Security and I have Medicare Part A. I can afford to buy parts B and D but I see no reason. I have even better coverage in Canada for way less cost. The USA has a nice warm climate in many places and I just loved that. But otherwise y'all have too many people who want to turn the place into an intolerant police state and to return the country to 1950s levels of intolerance, So in my retirement, I will stay here in Canada. Even though I could go and move in with my kid in the USA and get onto US Medicare.

Canada has another problem that you forgot to cover. Canada isn't an entrepreneurial nation like America. Canadians are less risk taking compared to Americans which means you can have an influx of immigrants but less jobs for them therefore they will leave back to their own countries again. Most of the top employers of engineers in Canada are foreign companies, not local. Salaries in America are high due to the immense labor competition for engineers as there are more startups and entrepreneurial people. \n\nThen in Canada they require certain Canadian certifications especially for doctors which isn't as bad as in the US. So you have some engineers or doctors that end up working low paid jobs since they would have to repeat school in Canada from an accredited Canadian university. I don't see this as a problem for the US at all because these immigrants aren't going to create new companies and are merely looking for a job. Canadians not being as entrepreneurial and not starting companies to compete for the talents of these professionals will just result in these professionals working out of the Canadian offices of American and Asian tech companies.\n\nOverall not a win or loss for America. Even if these guys end up working in the Canadian division of American companies, American companies will still have the benefit of their talent which is a win at a lower cost for the US companies.

So bizarre that you say 'most people will be ok with health care from their job' .. when the XXX hits the fan health-wise, the job is the first thing to go, then what ... all it does is tie people to their employer, another way for employers to impose servitude .. and its so expensive that people delay seeing the doctor and that can make health issues much worse before care is sought.

PS we're called Hollywood north. The same without the trffcing and more pay. \n-also I can be unemployed and pay no taxes and i still get healthcare in Canada. We don't have to work to see a doctor without getting billed. Thats the difference. Canadians are born with the right to healthcare vs. having to work or pay (probably both) to be diagnosed then pay for treatment separately. Healthcare is a universal right which is why visiting foreign tourists are treated in hospital the same as Canadians.

I am retired and my health issues won't allow me to. I don't have employer insurance or even private insurance any more, But I feel I am getting the best care I can get. I see my family doctor regularly every 3-4 months. My prescription drugs are covered, I get grants for my medical conditions. Also with the crime rate, mass murders, and the dangerous political divisions in the country, I have no reason to move to the US. I just feel safer in Canada. Not to mention the corrupt Supreme Court that is impacting on people's lives by taking away rights that people fought for years to obtain.

In general the only 2 groups of canadians you will see consistantly move to the U.S. people who are taking part in making pop culture (actors and musicians) or doctors. 2 groups of people who can make large amounts of money.

As a Canadian he’ll no I would never move to the USA crazy politics god help us all of any of those crazies are elected in the next election you’re country will become a fascist country no decent health care I wish Americans would stop saying that the health care system is restricted and we can’t go to certain doctors and we let the elderly die bullshit yes our health care system isn’t perfect but we don’t pay a penny to see a doctor and if we have any surgeries or long stays in the hospital does not send us a bill for anything gun violence in the states is very crazy and sadly since that evil despicable trump brought out visible racism Canada is not perfect but I’m a proud Canadian I won’t even go to the states on vacation way to many crazies to all the decent Americans this does not reflect on you

Although, I love here in BC Canada, but good to speak out truth! thank you for your true and reliable facts sharing. I agree every country has issues and here everything is slowly improving too, but it is frustrating to watch such problems that are solved in most least developed countries a decade ago. You can see someone sobbing from pain and yet to wait a week for doctor (feels to me meeting butchers :)). You can see many surgent and talented Intern/Indian doctor, experts and engineers doing labor work, are not they even capable for general basic services?! Solutions and resources are a lot but no body pick them up! as if it is a concession force not to. Say more about diversity but less inclusion of Asians.

I suggest google’n “ school shootings, small town America”…. article after article, when you do, says why most mass school shootings tend to happen in small towns….where nobody expects that they would have happened & how all the residents in those towns are always surprised that they happened in their town. \nI say this as somebody who once loved the idea of moving to the USA. \nMy mom was a single parent and as a result I spent a ton of time as a very young kid in the late 80s throughout the mid 90s in a small town in Oregon on my aunt and uncles dairy farm with my cousins and I absolutely loved it. Truthfully, I still love small-town America and I love the vast majority of the people I have met from small-town America. There is the friendliness and community that I find very similar to prairie farming towns in Canada. \n And as a kid, I loved the focus on high school sports in the small USA town I spent time in and how it brought the community together. It was very exciting to go to my cousins football games—stuff like that was super fun as a kid.\nAs an adult, with 2 young kids of my own now? \nYes, I would be terrified to send my children to any school in the United States, especially knowing that the vast majority of my school shootings do happen in small towns, which is a type of place in the states I would personally like to go to, if I did move. \n\nAdditionally, I will be completely bankrupt at this point given my own health issues as well as my two kids health issues and I’m just in my late 30s. \nAnd I’m not talking to super crazy health issues, but health issues nonetheless. I have asthma that has gone through patches where I’ve had to be hospitalized & I was diagnosed with stage 3 malignant melanoma when I was in my late 20s and pregnant with my 2nd. My first child was born with a congenital heart disorder that was missed through the pregnancy and until she was two, and that involved many many trips to the hospital & various specialists until they figured out what was going on (one of the symptoms was her randomly stopping breathing and going blue, which was terrifying, and could’ve been for many different reasons & it took many specialists & many hospital visits to figure it all out)\nMy son was born with a multiple protein intolerance and later received an autism diagnosis. There a decent number of hospital visits and specialists for his first couple of years of life too. \n\n I have no idea if I was in the United States how I would’ve paid for any of our health issues (let alone all three of ours) for that 5 or 6 year period where we all needed various types of regular-ish medical care. \n(because we got good medical care, thankfully, none of us have really had to see doctors any more than the average person in the last few years?)\n\nMy kids are now in elementary school, and, as a Canadian, the issue of school shootings happening anywhere….., including in small towns that seem perfectly safe……as well as the cost of healthcare for stuff that is covered by our taxes here in Canada….. are the two biggest reasons that I will think fondly of my time in small-town America, but would never consider moving there

If you move to rural areas of Canada its not that bad. Most of the Canadians commenting here I assume are the 80% who live in metro areas. Healthcare though is a problem, my inlaws in rural Quebec struggle to see a doctor often
