I have two brothers living in the states. The one in Wisconsin is my big brother and he means the world to me. He does have his foibles about race and he tolerates me bringing him to task for some of the things he's said. He was brought up in Kentucky. He seems to be seeing the light now. I have spent time with him and my sister-in-law, and my nieces and nephews in Florida, Illinois, Kentucky and Indiana. We are close now despite being brought up worlds apart. My next oldest brother lives in West Virginia. I haven't seen him on over 30 years. He had a habit of moving without telling the rest of the family. I didn't know he had divorced and remarried. I worked for the Canadian Military as well as some of the American contingent where I worked. I had to renew information for my Security Clearance just after 9/11. He refused to give me any info because Rush Limbaugh was telling Americans the terrorists came to the U.S. from Canada (they actually were taking flight training in Florida). I suppose I could easily take up American citizenship since our mother had dual citizenship but I think I'll decline. I'm too much of a Canuck to change now. I don't think I could get used to politicians winning an election and immediately starting a new campaign. The process seems exhausting to always be bombarded with things politic. Here our electioneering is held to 6-8 weeks before the election and strict limits are placed on funding and contributions. Besides, I live in a small city of 58-60 thousand (North Bay, Ontario). In the close to 70 years that I've lived here, I can recall only 3 murders, so you'll under if I find mass shootings shocking and abhorrent and truthfully scary. I'm a little long winded today....Sorry.

I have a work visa for the US and go there often. I go to many places that are not in the cities. I'm actually in South Dakota as I write this and find it to be a very pleasant place. I generally find everybody to be very friendly but can't help feel there are some topics that I just don't feel comfortable talking about in fear of triggering a strong response. I like visiting but would not consider moving there to raise a family. There is just a much greater chance of volitivity there. \n One time, while dinning out, I had a guy ask me, that because I didn't have a gun, what would I do if someone came to my home to rob me at gun point. I told him it never happens. But he insisted many times, but what if they did. I told him that it's not something I'd ever thought about and that I probably had a greater chance of dying on the plane ride home than being shot by an armed robber in my own home. But he kept insisting. I eventually told him I would help the robber take my stuff out of the house because that is what I have insurance for. I could not believe that this guy did not understand the concept of NO ONE (other then criminals shooting other criminals in the city) having a gun. \n I actually do have a long gun at my place in the country but that's to keep me safe from large animals that may come out of the bush. It is locked up in a gun cabinet by law. I would never think of using it against another person. I'd go to jail for sure if I did. Many of my friends hunt and have several guns but the restrictions on where and when you can use them and the strict storage requirements help ensure that they are not travelling around with a gun at hand. There are actually a few places in Canada where I've been that you do, or should, have to travel with a gun but these are remote areas of the country with large predatory animals. 99% of the population do not live in these areas.

Well, as a Canadian, I guess i'll pitch in.\nWould I move to the US? The short answer is no. But I will explain more in detail.\n\nFirst, I do not see any advantages to the US compared to Canada. Americams often tout their country as the beacon of freedom and the land of opportunities, but I don't feel that Canada is so different there. We're actually higher on the world freedom index, and its not like our economy was in shambles and everyone dirt poor... We pay more taxes, fine, but we also get more services in return, and that last part has the advantage to remove a big layer of worry. Like, for healthcare, I don't have to worry if i'm covered by insurance or not, or if the insurance carrier will drop me on some technicality. I'm a citizen. All the basic needs are covered; no questions asked (and the healthcare quality is not half bad. We just prioritize urgent cases over non-urgent; so if you go to the hospital for something non-urgent, you will wait, and more urgent cases will pass before you. Annoying when it happens, but I understand and agree with that in the end)\n\nSecond, I do see a lot of disadvantages. All the points raised in the video are valid, from the private-sector healthcare system, the gun control laws (or lack thereof), the social policies and legislation in some states; they don't agree with me.\n\nI think it comes down to some specific social and cultural ideas that are prevalent or at least present in a substantial manner in the american society. Bear in mind that I am generalizing here, not every american believes these points, but many do. I'm talking about ego, nationalism/patriotism, secularism etc.\nI feel that the US often has a really overinflated vision of itself. Like, the idea that America is the best. At everything. Wich is factually not true, but this idea also poisons the debate on many issues, and tends to limit social introspection that could lead to real advances.\n\nI've also noticed that the american basic school system is strongly patriotic. Everyone in the US is taught a lot about the US themselves in school, but not much about the rest of the world. Not great for open mindedness and introspection when you have little comparison points.\n\nAndlets not delve into the religious aspect. I've seen a poll somewhere where 48% of americans were AGAINST the separation of church and state. For me thats not only insane, its dangerous. It fits the individualistic mentality where people can more easily start thinking that their way is THE way. It creates a very polarized society much more prone to high volatility.\n\nSo, yeah, no, I wouldn't live in the US. I'd much rather stay in Canada where i don't have to worry if I get sick or hurt, if some agressive drunk idiot in a bar is armed, or if some fundamentalists from some religious congregation is gonna be able to try to politically force their point of view.

I see this done a lot but there's a big difference between correlation and causation. Your Rbc example shows the top people all white, including women I may add. It's very ingenuous to claim racism based purely on who has risen to the top. Would you call the NBA racist because blacks overwhelmingly are represented or did they get there because they were the best? It's really exhausting having to correct leftist talking points based on nothing.\nThis is the problem today, racism is used so much that it's become little more than name calling because people, usually on the left, call anyone they disagree with racist.\nYou dislike illegal immigration? Racist. You can be pro lawful immigration but have the wrong opinion and your a racist.\nHate crimes? These are incredibly rare and are often skewed politically, largely for reasons I just explained but if an indigenous man assaults an Asian lady, it's less likely to be labeled a hate crime as, say a white male doing the exact same.\nNot so common here but in the US, there are numerous examples of blacks assaulting Asians and orthodox jews and the media will cleverly imply it's whites by saying white supremacy is on the rise, then give the stats on hate crimes, most of which were not committed by whites. It's this kind of media manipulation that creates an inaccurate impression.\nNow, for the indigenous, yes, there is systemic racism. We have an entire governmental system treating natives differently with reserves, different taxes, hunting rights etc by definition it's systemically racist although many are a benefit.\nI also agree with your comment on Quebec with it's strong almost nationalist attitudes towards maintaining it's French heritage at the expense of individual rights.\n, please don't label someone or an organization as racist just because a bunch of white people occupy top positions without evidence that racism was the cause when it could just be they were the best candidates. Is it not best to not always assume the absolute worst before coming to a conclusion? It's like our legal system based on a biblical tale of choosing to let a 100 guilty go free than condemn a single innocent man. A founding principle to modern western countries that should apply here.\nBeing racist is a serious and nasty accusation that should be thrown only when it's established. I don't call someone a child killer just because I disagree with their politics and to do so is an a front to genuine victims. \nI'd argue Canada is one of the least racist nations on Earth. Name a country, you think is LESS racist, I'm curious, what would you suggest? I would counter that racism or xenophobia is far more common in non western countries.\nI would suggest countries in Asia, Africa and others with less multicultural populations harbor more racist sentiment towards other races. Visit Japan, very xenophobic but no one dares call them racist because it doesn't promote the leftist stereotype of white man racism.\nThere's a reason you never saw racism but had to be lectured by holier than thou self flagulating liberals about the scourge of racism, it's mostly a fabrication. These same people can never give a factual example beyond what you provide with the Rbc example. If it's that bad you would think they can provide real evidence.\nHave you actually met or seen racism in Canada? You probably have a better chance being struck by lightning.

Aren’t we fortunate in the US to have **none** of these problems!\n\nWe have no homeless here!\n\nTake a look at SF, LA (where all “solutions” are rooted in Bolshevism; “Hi, we’re from the government and will be taking over half of your front yard for homeless yurts (Ok, tents)--true story. Take a gander at any large, medium, and even a few small cities.\n\nHave you ever heard of Detroit (once proud home of my beloved Motown music), Baltimore (complete devastation), or Chicago (my home town—don’t make me cry)?\n\nThe entire homeless situation started when mental hospitals were snake pits and certain factions demanded that people be released.\n\nSure, it sounds humanitarian but they didn't bother to consider what would happen to mentally ill patients suddenly left to their own devices on the streets.\n\nThe do gooders actually were foolish enough to believe that the seriously ill patients (schizophrenic, bipolar, borderline, and plenty of others) would take their meds on their own. It doesn't work that way for patients who are not in contact with reality.\n\nNow we add extreme drugs (crack, meth, heroine, ketamine, whatever they hand out at parties, etc) and severe cases of PTSD/PTSS. It's obscene that we have veterans on the streets.\n\nHeath care--?. Pre Obamacare it wasn’t terrible but medicine had become a CYA project. We are so litigious (side eye to John Edwards ) that doctors practice defensive medicine and carry high limit malpractice insurance (guess who pays for that?). Every decision is driven by avoiding lawsuits, not proper patient care.\n\nPost Obamacare, US health care is an unmitigated disaster at every level. We’re short on doctors, too. Many quit and students are losing interest—medicine won’t pay enough anymore to justify $500K in loans.\n\nWe could repeal every bit of Obamacare tomorrow and still not be able to fix it. The leviathan grew tentacles that released toxins into every nook and cranny of the system. Now that they have buried themselves in critical layers, it would be impossible to yank them out.\n\nI have a good PCP who is booked 6-8 weeks out. Specialists? Hah. GI, neuro, and derm? If we gripe about this behavior, we are raaayyyycccciiiiissssts.\n\nNo rational adult would claim that the US is not a violent country and becoming more so. Nor can we claim to have eliminated racism. That takes time; it cannot be done by force.\n\nOur economy went from smokin hot to dumpster fire in a short span of time. Pre election, head hunters were shaking the trees to find job candidates.\n\nOur unemployment is up as are our taxes with the stomping out of the tax cuts. \n\nDespite the endless sloganeering about how the Trump tax cuts only benefited “rich” people, it’s quite the opposite.\n\nHigh earners lost their pet deductions and lower income taxpayers were quite pleasantly surprised when they did their returns. The cuts were targeted to preserve wealth for the middle and lower classes.\n\nI could go on for another 100 pages but you get the idea and I get crabby writing for free.\n\nI will leave you with the caution that it’s best if you doubt and question any data and any stats coming from our government. Those are seldom legit. If the data comes from a study, always look to see who paid for it. And how large the sample size was; how were the participants selected? We are all on our own when it comes to ferreting out info.\n\nOh Canada!\n\nYou’re welcome.

What I don't get is why all the way here in the US when they could actually make a great living anywhere else in Mexico. That money they spent with the cartels they could have put it to work for self employed outside of where they are running from . Soo why does it have to be in the US? They could very well make a living in Mexico. Even better.

I'm a Canadian living in the UK now. I love Canada with every piece of my heart but couldn't see myself ever being anything other than working poor there. I went to college but couldn't get a job in my field so had to take whatever minimum wage I could get, couldn't afford rent let alone buying a property so moved in with my parents and there isn't any support from the government for average citizens, only if you're an immigrant, disabled etc. I'm not against helping immigrants, disabled people or those that need it, just sucks that if you don't fall into certain categories it means you'll always struggle in your minimum wage job.\nLife in the UK isn't perfect but I was able to find a decent job here, the public transit is actually usable, phone plans and other bills/groceries tend to be cheaper and the working conditions are significantly better. Like I get 32 paid days off a year in my average job which is just wild to me! In Canada my sister who is a police officer only gets 15 days off a year and that's a lot compared to other people, like I never use to get any paid time off at my previous jobs. I miss parts of living in Canada but for the time being the UK is making my life a lot easier.

In 2009 I questioned if I could ever own a home but I was still working hard at my career and had some hope if I met the right women to marry. Then along came Justin Trudeau. Within 2 years of his goverment that dream faded fast. Everything I saved and my individual salary still wasn't enough. Property taxes and carbon taxes make it absolutely impossible here in southern Ontario even far a small home not without trying. I always get out bid on the 316 homes I tried to purchase. I can't pay 30%-70% above market value on a single income. Turning in my pensions isn't even an option. I'm not gambling away my retirement with current crrupt Liberal goverment that continues to raise taxes. To give some an idea just how single parents are crushed on taxes. I pay 53% of my income on taxes and get almost nothing back when filing my taxes cause I work hard and excel in my career. I get punished for being a hard work and risking my life to do so. Living in Canada has gotten gradually worse and worse the last 8 years. The socialist way of life isn't good. Now the writing is on the wall that it's becoming a communist country. I'm now searching for employment opportunities south of the border to give my child the best chance to making her dreams a reality. Canada isn't giving me any other options. If everything works out in the US I will surrender my Canadian citizenship at the earliest availability. It breaks my heart but I just can't allow them to enslave me and my child as she becomes an adult. Slavery is the only way I can describe the last 8 years. Also to top it all off 6 if the last 8 year's basic goverment services have been extremely unstable making doing business with Canada very frustrating. Getting a passport during this time has been delay after delay. Finding a family doctor that is stable almost impossible. \n\nCanada's economy status looks good from a far but its really far from good. Our goverment is literally paying 10s of billions in tax dollars to draw auto makers here and to even keep them here. Just further proof the economic future is very unstable. Probably even more so then the housing market. \n\nOur PM isn't even hiding his goverments level of corruption anymore. He actually brags about it at home and on the world stage. \n\n\nI worry about my future more then planing for it. Hopelessness has definitely set in. Now I'm in damage control by no fault of my own to make sure no possible debt are passed on to my daughter in the next 25 years when I'm gone. Even that is looking to be unachievable in my particular situation. It's my worst nightmare to leave my kid with any owing debts.

Let's do some basic life, right now unless your well educated and already had money from family, you need a job that pays at the very least 15 and hour and work a minimum of 60 hours a week to pay for a house and enough food to eat once or twice a day, don't say fast food, because when I was 12 you could get two burgers a drink and fries for like 3 something, now the same order is 10 to 12 that's down in Mississippi, notch that up the further north you go. Now on to housing, cheapest hotels or apartments that you can actually stay and sleep in without fear of disease from the bed, if your lucky 650 to 800, the average is 925. Houses! Rent to own, cheapest with ok credit, 900 to 1200 a month's for a double wide trailer or one bedroom one bathroom one person house

Did y’all seriously just ask “why are we seeing this right now?” Really y’all are going to ask that as if this hasn’t been going on the entire time Biden has been in office. What a joke. This has been going on the whole time y’all just ignored it and wanted to act like there isn’t a major unprecedented border crisis going on right now and pretend we don’t have millions pouring into our country from all over the world and we don’t even know who’s coming over but we know cartel and terrorists are definitely taking advantage of this we’ve caught many think about all the ones we didn’t catch. I’m actually shocked to see that y’all are reporting anything about the border crisis. Now if we could just get y’all to actually report just how bad it really is it’s so much worse than what you see in this video. The only time y’all showed footage from towns near the border was when the Biden administration had them clear the whole area of migrants and cleaned the streets so y’all could tell Americans that the crisis republicans say is happening at the border isn’t at all like what they are saying it is which is such a joke. My family has a ranch near the border and it’s been in my family since before Texas was Texas and what is happening today on our border is something we’ve never in all of history seen before and it’s never been more dangerous than it is now.

It's unconscionable that we've invited people to come to Canada without actually following through on the promise we made to them in the first place. Was it all just sloganeering designed to appeal to liberal progressive NIMBYers? Was there ever any intent on actually doing something for these poor people beyond a sound bite or photo op? \n\nThe solution to migration because of war, terror, famine and so on is not by opening up the borders and allowing everyone in, the solution to mass migrations (over 100 million worldwide) is to tackle the conditions that make such migrations necessary. Almost without exception, each one of these migrant/refugee situations are the result of political problems that have to be tackled in those countries where the conditions exist. There are over 100 million people fleeing conditions that make life unbearable, even if we wanted to, how are we to take them all into North America? How does anyone propose we do that, and even if we could manage it somehow, another 100 million would show up on our doorstep next year...or next week...it's simply not possible or reasonable to expect us to be overwhelmed by wave after wave of the poor unfortunate. The solutions to war and famine abroad can't be found here and we need to make it plain that people who live in such conditions must first rise up to help themselves. We can and should help, politically, through foreign aid and individual donations (North Americans are among the most generous donators after all), and even militarily where feasible or possible. The UN and other coalitions of nations, must each take up the burdens before people smugglers take it up for them. We have our own problems to deal with here and I'm not willing to vote for promises made that were never meant to be kept.

Send one of these women to me. I could use a woman who knows how to actually take care of a man instead of trying to be one. Maybe even a few of the guys who want to work instead of the lazy sob’s in my town who can’t even show up on the right day.

My parents came illegally but became citizens thru the amnesty from Bill Epstein i mean Clinton, i was born here in California, even though i love my Mexican heritage i still think this is wrong, we need more border control but we also need to be able to make it easier for the good people to come here legally. Donald trump was not racist he was speaking the truth alot of these immigrants are bringing drugs over alot of them are bad people who will cause alot of problems over here for us thats why we need a screening process but a better one than we have now because the one we have now is very expensive and takes way too long, we could use the extra labor from people who want to come and actually work. There’s also more Chinese immigrants than mexican so we need to get a hold of that too , but these Central Americans trying to come in the country alot of them are gang members and most of them are poor and have no resources so when they get here they will become gang members and cause problems because they have no structure and thats all they know. They really need to do something about this. This is disgusting, this is not the right way trying to barge your way into our country is not the way to go

We got to take care of our actual American citizens first. If they want open borders then let american take control of these country's. We could make South America the production capitol of the world. They get free access to usa and we get stuff made there for cheap instead of supporting fucking china. Could boost there economy and build there nations up so future generations don't have to come to America. But no they just want to come be a strain on our systems without any long term plan for the future. Wow. Smh the whole American continent could be basically self sufficient. Never gona happen though. During the 1930's media in various countries made immigrants and asylum seekers out to be this horrible thing and demonised them. This came after a huge recession in 1923, the Wall Street crash, and the subsequent dramatic rise of far right parties in various countries, specifically Italy, then Germany and Spain. \nFast-forward to modern times. 2008 saw another global recession. Once again politics swung massively to the right with countries like Italy (once again), Hungary, Austria, Poland and Sweden, voting in right wing governments, France ending in a run off that narrowly defeated the far right, Belgium and Spain looking likely to be heading into heavily right wing governments at the next elections, whilst the US and UK governments both saw their politics swinging far further in that direction, especially the UK right now whilst led by an unelected leader who is demonising people in ways that would make Trump look soft. One of themajor rallying calls: immigration. The way media report on this becomes increasingly demeaning and hateful. During the 1930's much of the European media and even as far as the UK was ramping up the scorn against the ever increasing influx of Jewish immigrants coming from Germany. Even into 1944 there was a vast amount of demonisation of them seeking asylum, despite the knowledge by this point that there were horrific conditions in camps where extermination was becoming ever more apparent. The Nazi German government in 1936 passed laws that enabled them to revoke citizenship and stripped away laws on human rights. It would be great to say that these poor souls who were being demonised in their own country were accepted into nations who could see what was going on and who wanted to help, but that just wasn't the way it went. Media played out as it is now, leading to rejection and a greater number of deaths as a result of this. The way the UK government is currently working, it actually sounds like the maxi government of the mid 30's during the time of the Nürnberg laws. \n \nThe world feels far smaller now with double the amount of people and with things like social media playing a huge role in the lives of many. The ease of access to people around the world has made issues seem to stretch to far more countries now, whereas back then it was a time of empires. I get that there will be many here who support Trump, many who support Biden, there will be Brit's who support Sunak and the rather vicious words of Suella Braverman, whilst others will be more on the side of Starmer (I'm well aware of all the other parties but they don't stand to gain as much). There will be French people backing Macron, whilst others back Le Pen. We could go through each country all the way to the battle between Fujimori and Castillo in Perú, and the stories are much the same, but how will history judge us when people look back to this time? Will it be another occasion where we demonised those trying to escape the horror of the place they had the bad luck to be born in whilst we were luckier? \n\nI know there is hardship everywhere. I'm struggling more than most and I know I can't keep living this way. However, I don't want to be a part of history people look back at and say ‘if only they did something to help prevent this.’. I would rather be a part of history people look back upon and say; ‘that was a boring time period where nothing important happened’. It's already too late for that. Instead I try to remember that, though I was born into a family who never really wanted me, I was lucky enough to be born into a country that could support me during the hardest times. When you look at immigrants, remember that every one of us has immigrants in our family tree somewhere.

This is BS ! I have NEVER EVER had to wait a full YEAR to see a doctor. Period . I live in Toronto. I write this in late March 2023. In the USA....you are on YOUR OWN when it comes to things like social issues and healthcare. Your so-called private insurance plans do not ALWAYS cover what YOU THINK they cover regarding healthcare. You could not pay me enough to ever move to the US from Toronto. My parents had MULTIPLE heart-related medical procedures in Ottawa that would have BANKRUPTED them if they were Americans. You are taken care of IMMEDIATELY if your life is in danger when it comes to healthcare. Americans never mention this. This actually happened to my 41-year old daughter. STOP listening to the DRAMATIC LIES among the comments below. Get real. Then there is the HUGE chance of being shot , say , in a school or a church or even a WALMART in the good ol'US of A. Even Christian elementary schools are not safe. I kiss the CANADIAN ground here in Toronto.

Why isn't our military lined up, completely armed and ready to shoot in situations like this? Plus less people could sneak in if we were lined up. I'm actually surprised the people who live here haven't decided to do the same since this administration won't do anything. Americans are having a hard time. We cannot take these people. How date they think they can do as they please and just barge their way in. This is ruining our economy n national security!!!!!!!!?‍♀️

If it was up to me, I would do a trade. I would swap 1 Guatemalan for 1 of them liberal extremists. The ones that say they hate the U.S. and how we need to pay for all of their colleges. Also, The one's that think you should be arrested and doxxed for hurting their feelings b.c maybe you grew up taught if you saw a female you called her a her and only females can give birth. \nI would take them, people b.c they would work hard, love the opportunity given to them here, and be thankful to be given starting amount of money& benefits enough to kick start a new life. and when they could pay it back they would actually pay it back. I do think some immigrants are Bad actors. Like cartels that exploit, leverage and steal from other immigrants who pay them thousands of dollars to help them cross the border. Then they might track them down and, bribe, threaten or force them to take drugs or money back and forth across. \nThe border is a multifaceted complex issue, it's certainly rung and leveraged by our politicians to extend their political agenda.

Canada was just asking for immigrants a few years ago, they were actually paying to locate individuals, so this could be good for them both

The world was meant to offer free movement for all. For thousands of years, that's how it was. The current system actually hinders human growth and prosperity. Just consider the United States. It's made of many states. If there's a problem in one place or lack of opportunities, people travel to another state. Thus, people have opportunities to change their without there being any problems for anyone. No one in California is crying that people from NY are stealing their jobs and vice versa. Likewise, if people had free movement globally, people could escape troubles in one place and create opportunities elsewhere. When such a situation exists, God's blessings come too. However, the current way only makes people have to choose between the devil and some sea.

Biggest difference USA has was more places to live every variety of climate you could ask for. It has way more opportunity because of the higher population. Way more jobs, way more national parks. They're extremely similar countries but I have to give it to the US is the variety of places to live. Canada may be bigger but most of it is a desolate wasteland. The only nice places to live in Canada are cities directly on the border. As far as how nice people are Canadians are just polite not always genuine. If an American is nice to you odds are they actually like you or they're someone you can't trust. But generally if a Canadian in nice to you they could hate your guts. We already can't rent.. We need a looooot of free rental units to create a good offer & demand balance not xtra people.. Everything is in demand .Make them serve Canada ? with obligatory military service . They can be deserving, Build their entry housing & whatever we may need . Canada big ups. Definitely, when I have been to the states, the racial segregation was one of the biggest surprises. Being from Toronto, you'll legit have every culture within 1 floor of 1 apartment building. Then go to like Jersey, and not see a single black person in an entire neighborhood. I REALLY like the diversity of Canada, at least in the big cities. Happy to be raising our daughter here, we actually went out of our way to ensure the daycare we put her in was pretty diverse. \nNow, in our small towns, shit gets a little.... You're not correct about the Quebec government banning the hijab - actually they ban all forms of religious expression in clothes worn at work by public servants - so don't criticize us unless you get the facts straight. All countries are facing public health crisis especially in the aftermath of a global pandemic, you mention how long it could take to get an MRI - weeks/months, but it's no worse than in the UK, or other western countries. I do agree with you about limited competition in banking and tech - but we're still a young and growing country, however, look at the global recession that took place in 2007 - Canada was least affected by mortgage default, the US was hit the worst and hundreds of thousands had their homes foreclosed by the Banks, yet in Canada because of our strict banking policies we were saved and the Banks worked with defaulters to try to keep their homes. Taxes, well most countries require you to file your own taxes at the end of the year - what's so strange about that? Yes sales tax is added onto the sales price depending on what province and what you are purchasing, same as US, just because it's not the same in Europe doesn't mean it's worse! Listen, when you're a newcomer to any country you need to fit in when looking for a job, put in the effort, take the time, do the work, any country is going to expect you to be able to speak the language and know the lingo, so I don't agree with your analysis that Canadians are risk adverse! You are 100% correct about the housing crisis, listen it's been going on everywhere for decades, and international investors in the past 10 years or so woke up and noticed that Canada was a great bet for investment, so the problem got really bad. The government just passed a 2 year moratorium on non Canadians buying real estate - as have many other countries, so fingers crossed no more new foreign landlords just regular Canadians buying their first homes, let's hope so!! I've lived many years in Europe - and I loved it! But the quality of life in Canada is better. If you don't live in the crowded city you can have a nice property with lots of space, good roads, not bad school system, very friendly and helpful people. Quebec has some of the best food on the North American continent, we have clean air and lots of water in Canada - I'm very happy here, so don't be so negative please!

The worst thing that can happen if you have an accident with a cyclist is not a lawsuit... come on, what kind of disregard for a human life is that? You can actually take somebody's life if you are not paying attention, surprising right? An accident could be caused by both the car driver or the cyclist but you kind of imply it's the cyclists who are always unpredictable. Also, don't forget a lot of newcomers opt for a bicycle since they can't afford a car right away and the public transportation in some cities is just terrible.

I’m in the US and our paid and expensive healthcare system gets us the same treatment. As a Canadian from Québec I can tell you that you're right. The truth is we get fucked by our government since over 20 years. They invent new taxes, they steal more on our paycheck. I'm soon 30 and I can't still afford for a house when in 2000s with my actual salary I could've afford a house easily. We're sick of this lifestyle too so I understand completely why you're leaving except for the weather because I'm used to it unfortunately ?

I’m embarrassed to admit that I had no idea there was slavery in Canada. As a kid, I remember taking school trips to points along the Underground Railroad. This gave me the impression that Canada was a country that slaves could escape to, to find freedom. It’s astounding and distressing that we are not taught the full truth of history. (Another recent revelation for me: Columbus never actually landed on the shores of continental America. The distortions and omissions we’ve been subjected to in our so-called “education”!)

I will be leaving Canada within a year or so after declaring non-residency and bring my business with me. My view is that Canada is a good place to live a normal life. Healthcare covers your peace of mind, even if the waitlist is long and bureaucratic. Social benefit is not as generous as people suggest sometimes (at least in Canada unless you're on actual welfare where you can't work but you can't rise your way up easily and you're forever stuck in 1.5k CAD/month... which would be ofc much better than other struggling countries but immigrants often aspire for greater things than that. \n\nEven though I was an Asian immigrant, I never faced significant racism afaik (I could be socially naive however), but there are definitely limitations of opportunities. It's not too difficult to find entry to intermediate jobs, at least for me but that's probably because I did schooling here in Canada. And I was able to network aggressively and learned to be an extrovert, so that also helped. But still, Canadian living cost is high (and I'm saying this from Calgary... imagine what it's like in Vancouver/Toronto). Is it doable? Ofc. 50-70k CAD/year is quite doable ESPECIALLY in Calgary, Alberta. But it'd be difficult to achieve financial independence and true wealth. This is true everywhere ofc but more so in Canada compared to, say, USA where living cost is lower and wage is higher with more opportunities. It's a great place to live normally. If you wanna become exceptional (wealth, customized goods and services, etc), it become harder and costs more. \n\nEven now when I now own business after struggling to get here over 10 years that generates income that I need to achieve financial freedom, tax becomes frightfully bad. Alberta (that imposes lowest tax rate compared to other Canadian provinces (not including territories for obvious reason) is comparable to California in USA that is among the highest in all US states. And let's be real; Alberta is nowhere close of being California. Imagine the taxes in BC/Ontario shiver. \n\nOnce my tax rate becomes high enough to justify moving, I will pull the trigger. Still window-shopping where I wanna go and I have some lists but it's gonna happen especially as Canada will have to deal with their struggling economy, further distancing from US and their government mismanagement that continues to cost the society. I will not have any part in it. I may come back once in a while for visit or potentially retire depending on what the future looks like but right now, I just don't see my longterm future here.

It actually depends from what country you migrated from, your networks here and luck of course. Me and my wife coming from developing country and migrating here in Canada realized how much our lives have changed for the better. We could buy our own vehicle and purchase our own home. Yes its true, we have give up our friends back home but we found new friends here. It is how you accept life as it is and be happy. To me, it looks like Vice is really trying to pull the emotional card to get people to sympathize with this man because he really is in a rough situation. But, he is in a situation of his own making. It sounds like he had not done any prior research about Canada before deciding to claim refugess status. Yes, Trudeau was not giving the full truth when he made those public announcements to the media. Yes, people (educated or not) can be swayed by words of leaders they respect. But, to think you can just enter another country and claim refugee status without understanding what that actually entails is very naive. Canada has very transparent laws that are easily accessable in a multitude of different languages. The provinces also have legal assistance for those who can not afford lawyers. So, the fact that this man was able to spent $15,000 when he is being portrayed as a low income earner makes me question his income, or if he was even aware that he could apply for legal assistance. And since he has a lawyer who has been working his case, I would like to assume that the lawyer would have said something about assistance.\n\nI really want to be sympathetic for this man and his family, because security uncertainty makes life extra hard. But, as I have had to live in more than one country due to the Canadian immigration system refusing my husband due to a very old DUI (which has set our life on a completely different plan than anticipated), I have a very hard time being sympathetic when I feel as though they did not reach out to educated themselves on the laws of another country. I am a Canadian who currently can't live in Canada with my husband of 3 years and I still don't hate my country. I respect the hell out of it (this is not to get into our historic treatment of BIPOC, which deserves it's own seperate time and is a bloody stain on our land's history.)

Ive actually living in America applied for a job in Cooperate American. I applied with real name education and work history. I was VERY qualified if not Overqualified...i applied using a different variation of my name amd using my mothers maiden name, and got the job after interviewing with a different supervisor. Once i showed my ID for tax papers etc. I was called into the office on my orientation day amd was told that i wasnt hired using my real name and could not continue employment. Well i wasnt silent. I sued and received a settlement. Racism is everywhere even in a name
