For anyone who is curious about how our politics make everything worse for us federally, let me explain it in a short time.\n\nTrudeau as of the day of this video, March 3, 2025, is STILL the PM. He said he WOULD resign once a new leader was picked through a democratic process. Right now, he's basically just doing photo ops in Ukraine, UK and anywhere else on our dime because Parliament is prorogued and the party in power, Liberal, is having a leadership race. So, while he may resign within the week once that leadership race is done, he's still technically in charge.\n\nWhat makes that race and the PM's prorogation so bad is that we're in the middle of a crisis - several actually - caused in part directly by Trudeau and his Liberals (and the NDP supporting them). The latest would be Trump's tariffs starting today, March 4, 2025. Trudeau always disappears during a crisis, leaving us to fend for ourselves - (1) COVID, he was at the cottage using every excuse not to be accountable for anything or using unconstitutional powers to crush a protest he didn't know how to handle, (2) Chinese spies, he's ignoring our intelligence service, (3) federal worker strike, he's in NYC at some gala.... I could go on but there's a reason we're hurting so bad.\n\nWe have zero federal leadership, and a federal government that makes things worse for us with things like: over-regulation, subsidizing media to keep us misinformed, nerfing select natural resource sectors but favoring others (oil and gas suffer, while coal is fine... probably because we sell it to China, but I digress), letting criminal out of jail, uncontrolled immigration, passing policies like the FHSA that drive home prices higher and higher, and of course, more and more taxes. It’s a giant spruce forest full of lakes, rivers, energy, minerals, three oceans, arable land, and, and a very low population density. Increase access to unused and agricultural land in urban arease\nImpose export tariffs on construction materials\nReduce union fees for construction workers\nRemove municipal restrictions on high density housing\nReduce temporary immigration\n\nJust a few things that would help the housing crisis. A housing deficit serves only the investors, it's time that the state produces housing at a reasonable price. Might be wishful thinking, but we need ways to keep housing affordable.

I grew up on Vancouver Island and the local government didn’t allow for secondary suites. Then with housing crisis continuing the fact that province had to step in with a carrot and stick approach to municipal governments to approve more housing and change regulations stick being if you don’t meet targets you lose power and carrot you hit the targets you get cash this created a direct opportunity cost of nimbyism plus the federal government would top the amounts if a municipal government hit there housing targets. It changed really quickly the municipal government changed the law to allowing secondary suites to be built which the cost per square foot to build is 1/3 compared to new builds. This allows more rental properties and housing options and allows more people to purchase goods and services in the local area and not dramatically increasing the costs of new infrastructure to service them as compared to a new housing development on the outskirts of the city. A home could comfortably double it’s density every effectively, affordably and swiftly.

If Canada uses it's wisdom to choose a leader with an aptitude for economics, and behaves with the collectivistic humility we are known for, perhaps we will weather this storm and come out stronger on the other side. When making decisions from fear or anger, Canadians become individualistic and do our entire nation a major disservice by destroying any chance of using this crisis to propel our way out of the pit we are currently in. We need to avoid pointing fingers because for decades cowardly and self-serving decision-making have led us here. This video and these comments are so shocking and depressing. 10 years ago, people still widely praised and raved about Canada and it was a leading country in healthcare and standard of living. Now people are saying the complete opposite and saying it's in a terrible state. I know countries have their downfall at some point, but Canada, of all places, having a really horrendous \n economical crisis is so hard to grasp.

The people leaving Canada are older, and they have money. The ones coming are poor and compete with other poor immigrants that can't afford to leave. When I came to Canada with my parents they had to be skilled and bring with them the minimum of $10.000.00. Today the door is open everyone comes to visit finds a job that hire illegal migrants, and never leave. The company saves and no one pays taxes. The government is corrupt. What’s been fueling the homeless crisis is the people at the top. We have our own housing shortage that needs to be addressed for existing Canadians who are struggling. I'm glad we are taking a pause and redifining the structure of how and who we receive into Canada. Until we sort out the housing crisis, which is in every major city, there simply aren't enough homes to help those in need and address newcomers who aren't financially self sufficient. If those immigrating to another country, they should provide their new country with their own financial means of support, or be of a profession that is in demand, the sooner they get jobs and pay into the system, the better.
