I was moving back to Edmonton in October 2023 and the vacancy rate was 0.0001% the apartment I got, if i did not take it (the area is so rough) I would have had to stay with a friend and hoped and prayed that in November more people were moving so something else could/would become available. \n\nThen I talked to everyone in this building. Once the 1 year lease is up they months rent 250$ so they suck you into a an apartment where homeless are sleeping in the laundry room smoking meth for $1000 and then up the rent to 1250$ and the area is like the ones you were exploring. If anyone knows Edmonton it’s a block off 118 ave or Alberta Avenue. And I work at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (inner city) it’s heart breaking ?. It was always bad but since moving to the country in 2020 and coming back late 2023 the decline is devastating. Even a very close friend of mine went from packing her kids lunches, working casually (when they needed) as a janitor at Edmonton public school board to staying at salvation Army and it getting full to living in Tent City. She had to make her way to Calgary for shelter. ?

I have seen Ukraine refugees taking money from Canadian gov later leaving back once the money is finished. I have seen people coming to Canada with Gov 40-50K once that is finished they leave. Safe supply is a joke while government is legalizing heroine. Addicted person will not blame the the drugs. They will always find someone else to blame. Fix housing. I work as a Dentist and I went through hell in Canada getting my credentials approved. Wasted on that 6 years of my life. My son , an engineer, left Canada. My boyfriend, a surgeon back in Russia, left Canada. \nBetter and easier to live somewhere else...

The public transit thing I disagree with. Other than maybe Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, any where else it's pretty lack lustre. You need a car. Edmonton, Calgary, anywhere Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northern Territories, the Maritimes. Basically 50% of the rest of the country. \nAnd public transit is absolutely dreadful in the whole country compared to Europe.

Canada needs more people like it needs a hole in the head. Even at salaries maybe at 60 to 70% of the US it really doesn't employ all the people it has. That's why if you take up engineering or SW, you better find a way to move to the US or else be ready to flip burgers here all your life.

The time might be right to buy myself a slave. On second thought I would have to house, cloth and feed a slave so maybe that's not a good idea. Maybe just hire them and pay them, let's say $5 an hour to wash my car, cut the grass or shovel the snow. That should take about an hour. What else can they do around my house? Maybe put new shingles on the roof? Should be good for at least 10 hours.

The students are also living 4-5 to a room, and sometimes more than 10-20 per house, they can afford to live on minimum wage, while eroding the quality of life, or ability to buy a house for everyone else.

Listening to all the bloggers on You tube there's not a good country on earth. \nCame to Canada 30 years ago as refuges and we love these country and won't move anywhere else. Ok... Toronto and Vancouver is a very small part of Canada... they are not the whole Canada... I understood the struggles but there are lots of places in Canada is what we say livable... Hey Im alone here in Edmonton... i pay mortgage,,, i pay bills,,, i pay debts,,, i support my family back home,,,, i buy whatever i want and most of all,,, i only have one job... and look!!! Im surving for 14 years now alone... Struggles should be dealt with willingness to do what is necessary,,, hardwork and resiliency not quitting... you will still have to work hard whether you go back home or go somewhere else... at least here in Edmonton,,, you're hard work is rewarding unlike most of the countries around the world...

All of them are using our country like a trampoline to go somewhere else. When they are getting older, they are coming back for pension and medical care. They need the Canadian passport, nothing else. Unfortunately, we need people to live here forever, not temporarily for education and citizenship.

Who can survive the high cost of living in Canada at age 65 or more are truly gifted and smart people..I'm not smart enough so I am now living somewhere else and I'm happy.

Australia is in the same position, Perth has no housing stock and super pricey rents. Had to move back to family home. I cant see anywhere else in Australia cheaper or id consider moving. scary times post covid.

I had dealings with the Indian consulate office in New York from 1990 to 2012. The staff back then was really bad. Government workers didn't speak nicely to people and acted as if they were better than everyone else. There are law firms that can get your tasks done quickly because these Indian lawyers know the consulate staff. They give them gifts, and the work gets done without you having to go to the consulate.

I was born here and have plans to leave. A friend born in France moved here two years ago and just left this month. Another friend from Japan is trying to find somewhere else to live. Canada is not the paradise people think it is.

I know a lot of people who are going back now. People who came with a PR and have an average yearly income of 190000 cad. \n\nIndia is growing at a higher rate than Canada. Standard of live used to be better in Canada but now with high cost of living, that is changing. Medical facilities are in doldrums in which India excels. Canada needs to rethink about their policies else more educated people are gonna leave. \n\nI would rather buy a flat in Mumbai than Canada at this point.

The problem is that officer wants to behave the same way as he treated in his own country. The international manner and open world is something else.

I came to Canada with the hope of a better life and it was a better life for a while until I had to deal with work politics and quit my job. And the so called healthcare system? I gave birth to a girl here who devloped cancer (never have we had that in any branch of our families) then died here from errors that could have been avoided. The taxes? High to support services that dont really benefit. The culture? Outwardly welcoming but inwardly judgemental. The weather? Has nothing on anywhere else in the world. So is Canada really worth it? Make the dollars and buy land in your country's home town. Visit Canada for a seasonal summer job then live at home peacefully among those of your culture and grow your own land.

it is TOO COLD in CANADA and we can buy MAPLE SYRUP once in a while anywhere else in the world , weed not so much (which is a good thing really) so no sane asian person will want to live in such freezing -40°C
