What he should do is move to the US once he gets citizenship where the cost of living is better and salaries are much higher. He can send his kids abroad for school. In developing countries, you don't get security, good publi education, utilities 24/7, a working government, no social safety net (aka welfare), etc and you're absolutely on your own. You can't discuss any one thing in isolation. The difference is day and night. Also, time is money and everyone has to be accountable and responsible with both. As an employer. would he appreciate his employees getting paid to waste either and get paid for it? A reason developimg countries aren't doing well is because they fail to understand this, hence the waste of time and everything running late and not as quality. If it was great, why are the developing countries' economies so bad. As an immigrant myself, I know, understand, and appreciate this and think until developing countries appreciates this, they will continue to struggle.

Our son (22 yo) was in a traffic accident 3 years ago. Heavy multi-trauma that necessitated 18 surgeries, the latest was 2 months ago. He still has complications that forces him into long hospital stays. If we were living in the US, not only the whole family would have been bankrupt, but he most certainly would have died from lack of fund to pay for his care. Being Canadians living in Quebec, we didn't pay a dime, and his medical care wasn't even entirely paid for by the universal national healthcare. Most of it was paid by the Société d'Assurance Automobile du Québec (provincially funded, single payer automotive insurance).\n\nEverything, including renovations to the house to make it suitable for a wheelchair user and so much other things he now needs has been paid for. All in all the cost of all the medical care, prothesis, equipments, surgeons (6 of them, diffrent specialies), multiple MRIs, scans, stress-tests, ect. is most certainly in the 7-figure by now. The single payer automotive insurance granted him a pension for life, calculated on the base of the salary he would have made in his future job, had the accident not cut short his university education.\n\nJust typing this to show a very valid reason why it makes absolutely no sense for a Canadian to move to the US, makes me tear up for families down south going through a similar situation, knowing that unless they are millionaires, they're probably going through hell. Each time we hear about the health care system in the US, we have feelings I can't even describe.\n\nEdited to add: Our son is covered by his father's complementary health insurance he has at his job. Not entirely accurate. It's pro-wealthy immigration here in Canada absolutely. It's citizenship for sale. Not necessarily wealthy in terms of really wealthy (like Switzerland) but it's definitely citizenship for sale, so if you don't have money, don't bother. Newcomers with medical and engineering expertise can't get jobs here in Canada, in spite of our healthcare system being on the point of collapse and our supposed hi-tech push. Regulatory boards here have made it impossible. Estimates are around 175000 qualified, internationally trained doctors and nurses who gave up trying to practice here and moved into other careers. Ukrainian doctors, for eg, with extensive trauma experience and willing to staff our emergency departments have been told they have to requalify by going to Canadian medical school to retrain for at least 4 years. Same story in engineering. By IT, our government seems to mean low-paid call center IT work, moving the IT sweatshop racket from India onto Canadian soil. If you can afford to buy a business - I believe the total business investment was 500 000 pre-pandemic - that's another way in. Not sure if thats gone up now. So many of our franchise businesses are essentially being used as citizenship tickets. The big ticket item: If you can afford 4 years of postgraduate or undergrad university program, or 3 to 4 year college program - and if you don't have the cash, loan sharks in India will distribute debt across the whole family for decades so one student can go . There us a very good documentary by an Indian filmmaker on the Canadian college/University recruitment drive in India and its consequences. Several of our colleges have student enrollments at over 70% of the entire student body, direct entry from India. Additional problems like grade inflation, different education standards, and outright fraud on ESL testing also mean that Indian students are not well prepared for school here. Many do not have enough English to succeed in their studies. They either need to spend for additional tutoring, take a qualifying year or two ESL (on top of the 3 or 4 program), or fail courses. Universities and colleges keep the tuition though. Honestly our colleges and universities are staying afloat because of Indian students. They're being treated like cash cows - and Indian recruiters are scamming the system, taking fees on their end with unsuspecting students getting falsified documents, or being told they passed their ESL when they didn't. It's a national disgrace. I'm a prof here, I've seen all of this firsthand. Your data may be correct, but the narrative you've constructed for it is not the real picture.

Canadian (Albertan here) - yes, i don't think i'd move to the States unless it was reasonably close (maybe Montana) with fewer people - i'd like to identify as a Hermit :). I motorcycle and have travelled majority of the States, from coast to coast, and i really do like the country side and scenery, and history, that you run through. I do a 4000-6000 mile tripe every year or two - did Tennessee last year, and Colorado this summer. A lot of absolutely amazing country really, and yes some really great people as well. Have run into some real odd people as well and some places i wanted to get out of pretty quick. I do like the fact the US hasn't bought into this woke agenda and politically correctness - it's absolutely nuts up here. I like the gun laws in the States, too bad we're so screwed over that in Canada. Gotta love Trump - may be a bit of a bozo but hey - the guy lays it out and owns his shit, every other polititician plays the blame game and does everything politically correct... End of day, i'd prefer to stay in Canada, either Alberta or British Columbia.

We recently drove to my daughter’s cottage in Montana. We live in BC. She and her family live in Alberta. Another couple, two doctors, was joining us for the weekend. We got lost and they did too. Not a problem, we all arrived eventually. They commented that they did not feel that they could go to someone’s house and ask for directions. We agreed and felt the same thing. In Canada that would absolutely not be the case.

I absolutely agree. Australia is one of the best countries to live with a work-life balance. They have yet to talk about 10% super contribution which was made to their retirement fund. There are heaps of vegetarian, kosher, halal options. People are super friendly and very humble and polite. It is heartbreaking to hear this. In emergency it depends what is happened to you. Australia has the highest labour wage in OECD I think now at $24 + super. Reigonal areas like Canberra, TASMANIA etc they are not to bad.

I absolutely have to agree, U.S. Immigration Policy needs an update. Most of the policy we have today settled during the anti-immigration 90s and terrorism-scared 2000s. It was an era guided by fear more than statistics. It's no surprise that when you throw more and more money at a border and simply make it rarer for an immigrant to come legally, that the reasons for people wanting to come here doesn't stop existing.

The USA is the last place I would ever move to!!!! I would move to Mexico before moving to the USA. Basically this is because you do not have medical for your own people and your gun laws are absolutely stupid.
